Thanks for the tip! We hang our vanda's upside down because it tends to be top heavy and prevents water from pooling inside its leaves. it may look strange but the vanda does not mind at all. Kisses for the philippines
I bought five-vandas when I moved to my current location. They were all bare root and hanging in thin wire. I use a large plant pot to keep fertilized water in, and soak the vandas for extended periods, such as several hours. Afterward, I turn them upside down to drain any pooled water. I hang them from the door frame outside my sliding glass door, so I can see them all the time. One is in bloom now, and I see new growth on all of them. My other orchid varieties are potted, and I soak them, as well, in the fertilizer water. They are producing many roots and leaves. Tree frogs and lizards seem to enjoy my vandas as much as I do!
I mist daily and dunk them in a bucket once a week or when I have time. The misting method helps since they are inside tall clear vases. One vanda, a big seedling, is very fickle though. It does not show a signs of vigorous growth. It does have dark tips on most of its roots which I remember as a sign of some growth. My other vanda has thick roots creeping all over. The neofinetia is quite a unique one some have them grown in bark, some grow them exclusively on sphagnum moss and others have them in a mix of bark and moss. I currently have mine in bark and it acts like a phalaenopsis/cattleya.
You have such beautiful, healthy Vandas... very impressive, as usual. I can't do the daily watering thing, so I grow mine in wooden baskets along with media. I experimented, unsuccessfully, early on with both hydroton and large bark chips; but I've been using lava rock for over a year now. I would highly recommend it for anyone who wants or needs to use media at all. I chose pieces that were too large to fall through the spaces between the slats, naturally. Using the lava rock, along with two Air-O-Swiss humidifiers that I use in Winter only, have allowed me to be able to water just once a week. Another lesson I learned the hard way is to never order any Vandas in the Winter, lol. For whatever reason, sellers tend to pack the roots in wet sphagnum moss... this, combined with lower temperatures in transit, tends to produce a specimen with rotten roots on arrival. :(
frzzlfry66 Thanks for the tip with lava rock :) well whatever works better for you is the best, vandas can be quite hassling really, but they are just so rewarding :) and yes, wetness and low temps = hard times for most orchids :(
Danni I think I have a weird phalanopsis orchid I bought it 2 months ago scence then it has been growing a new leaf and roots I know it is a vigorous grower because it had 1 cut flower spike and the flowers ( wich I cut already ) where from a secondary spike the primary spike had been cut out by who ever was the grower. So I know when she blooms she is going to have many many blooms ( hopefully ) the problem is the new leaf hasn't matured throughly and I can see a new leaf emerging is not really a problem but is something I never seen before I use to think they waited until a new leaf is matured to start producing a new one. ????
I have two Vanda hybrids and since I water them daily, sometimes twice a day and keep the roots surrounded by Spanish moss, I have a complet new flower spike with 9 buds on it
I love the shape of the vanda orchid, and the flowers are gorgeous, I will defo have to keep an eye out for one :) you are so clever and kowledgeable about them all, and you have a nice friendly speaking voice, keep up the good work, and keep these videos coming :)
Hello Dani.I am really, really thankful for your videos😃.In the past, when I didn't know much about orchids,I killed a few.Oops😰.Your videos helped me a lot.I first started with Phals,Dendrobiums and now I recently bought a Vanda😁.Hope it survive well in my flat.Orchids have become addiction to me although I don't have much space(wish I have😭).Anyway, can you please make a video on how to fertilize a Vanda? My vanda is hanging freely in a basket and I have no idea how to fertilize it.😄.Once again, thank you for your videos😄
hey there!thank you for the video!! I saw your vanda also had a keiki at the base and you sinked it in the bucket..is that ok?? mine also has one much bigger than yours and I am thinking about separating them…do you have any idea how to do it or is there a video available for that?? I am finding it difficult to specify the cutting point and how to separate all the roots….thank you again!ps: i think mine could be an ascoscenda and not a vanda...might have to write to you about id issues! many many kisses from a Greek girl in Germany
Mir Buys Hi, yes it has a keiki but I never had trouble with it, since it doesn't have any potting media to maintain and give moisture in that area, everything dries very fast. About the keiki, here is something from the aos www.aos.org/Default.aspx?id=706 so if you wish to remove it, try to cut it as low as possible, leaving all roots of the keiki above the cut. Or you can simply let it be and have a better flower show from both orchids :)
MissOrchidGirl wow you are fast :) thank you for the reply! well I wouldn't think about separating them if I could grow them hanging but I have it in a vase and things are really complicated size wise...it is a really big plant...my big problem is that the roots are really a mess between the keiki and the mother but I will give it a try...I just hope to keep them both alive :)
Hun an I that was so helpful I actually decided this morning to hang my vandals in the house and dunked them and believe it or not in several hours they are all silvery again I think I need a bigger bucket and today is the sunniest Britain has been in a long time it's about 20 outside so I decided to put them outside for an hour to gain some sun and they loved it btw I have no idea if my vandals are suited to home environment as I bought thm from schwerter
Andrew Usher I have 2 from Schwerter, one flowers twice per year, the other is still kinda young I think :P well mine dry off in a few hours as well now, if I have time I water them again at noon, if I don't.. tough luck :P they don't mind though ;)
Your video is very good. You suggest not to leave water between the leaves, as I've read in other websites. Somewhere else I've read that the particular shape of the leaves of the vandas
is made to pick every single drop of rain to deliver to the trunk. So now I'm a little bit confused...in the natures nobody drys them up but seems they can thrive anyway... so?
Hi Danny, do you use artificial air circulator for your orchid (ex.like fan) ? Because it seems that you put all your orchid indoor but they all thriving, especially for vanda which as far as i know need good air circulation. Thanks
I do have a question that no one can seem to answer most of my vandas that grow all Winter in the tent in my basement have very short new growth the leaf span is very small do you know what might cause this they grow under LED lights
I leave my vanda in the tub with barely 2 cups of water. Only the roots touch water. I leave it there overnight and in early morning i take it out. Half the amount of water is taken by the plant and it is well hydrated.
I was told by a friend, that their difficult to grow here because of the cold winters with little sun. Even though I do have a light set up for my other plants and orchids. Of course your watering technique certainly puts a better spin on it now. So difficult to find good watering information.
Kurt Nehrbass my winters are cold and cloudy as well, last winter we had a record of 35 days without sun and yes, the Vandas didn't bloom all winter, but when spring, summer and autumn are here they pick up and get back in business so, you should be ok :) if you think it is too hassling with watering and all maybe it's not an orchid for you, but if you really like them I think it's worth trying with one, try a complex Vanda hybrid, they usually bloom a few times per year and are not that fussy :)
MissOrchidGirl thanks for the encouragement. I think I will give it a try and see what happens. Like you, here in Buffalo, NY we really really didn't see the sun very much at all. Since I have my plant room with the lights during the winter, I usually have a bucket of water sitting there, so it would be convenient to water in the bathroom once a day when it's not growing. How often do you fertilizer your Vandas?
Hi, i bought a vanda plant two weeks back. I am watering it as you advised by dunking the roots in a bucket for 15 mts but only once a day. It is kept in a bright area but without direct sunlight falling on leaves. Now I notice that leaves tips are looking ragged around the edges and some leaves are splitting in the middle. Please advice
Deni, I just got my fist Vanda (aeridovanda Diana Eu) the first thing I did was water it it really, really needed it. I set it in a large bowl a bit.then I did inspect it I have several good roots but a also have a Lot of what I'm pretty sure are dead ones I'm really not sure about cutting the dead ones do I leave them or cut?
Hi My daughter was given a vanda orchid in a pot as a gift and I have no idea how to take care of it. I’d really appreciate if you’d do a video on how to take care of such plants in a pot
hi Dani my vanda orchid has lots of new root tips and three new leaves growing so i think its doing well. i was away for 5 days and hoped it would be ok but when i got back the leaves were wrinkled and wilting. afters days of daily dunking in water the leaves still look terrible but there still growth. should i be worried?
Hi, are all the leaves floppy or just the bottom ones? a picture will help as well, just upload a picture to photobucket, flickr, instagram, imgur or g plus and share the link in a comment here, I'll take a look :)
I let my vanda orchid soak in some morning sun until noon I turn on my humidifier for about a hour then again 3 hours later for another hour would this be good enough as for humidity?
Hi, I just bought a vanda orchid on clearance. Got it for $5 it's a (V. Jiriprara x Devaraks) x Ascda. Butterfly.it's very dehydrated so my question is what do you recommend I do to rehydrate it? Thanks X
+XaViEr3520 ok all is well :) I would just care for it normally, as long as it still has green roots all is well. When you water vandas make sure you water them well though so the orchid gets hydrated (this video is a good example). Soak the remaining roots for about 15 minutes every day. You could complicate yourself with a glass vase but.. I don't think it's needed. The orchid will produce new roots if you give the proper environmental needs and make sure to water and hydrate it every day :)
Hey,I'm a beginner, I have two vanda orchids, can I put them in the rain, because I have them in the shade and I'm having trouble getting new roots, help
Dani, thank you for all the information. Quick question, can I overwater my vanda? I soak it in a bucket each morning. Temperature is around 62-76 degrees. Sensei blue about 4 years old. Humidity is approximately 50 to 70 percent range or so. Thoughts ?
I.bought à huge and gorgeous vanda and the potting medium is broken coconut husk, charcoal, and other medium that doesn't get too too moist to cause rot and let's the root system breathe...
I have a few vandas, however, they tend to have long stems between crown and roots. Is there a reason for that? I see yours are sort of compact - mine and long and sort of cumbersome to handle.
+Renita Ferreira Hi, well it might depends on the species or varieties you have. Also it depends on light too, the brighter the light is, the less they will stretch to reach it :) I offer very bright light to my Vandas.
Hello, I am Maria. I have a problem with my Wanda...it seems good, the leaves are growing, but not the roots! From the moment I get her she blooms but there is no new root coming out, I hang it in front of the window, but nothing no roots! What can I do? I water my Wanda every day in a bucket for 15 minutes. Thank you so much.
I found a beautiful Vanda (gorgeous flowers) at a store the other day but the main stem was blackening as and a few roots right next to the stem were solid black. Have you ever seen this and would a plant like this likely die? I really wanted it but felt it was a high risk as I wasn't sure if it was a fungus.
For most of my vandas there is not a bucket large enough! And when I used to water in a bucket that's how I passed through serrium to two of my vandas! You have to have a designated bucket for each separate plant and most of mine are so large that a 5 gallon bucket is not big enough! So I use a garden sprayer to saturate them inside a grow tent in my basement which keeps the humidity up above 75% at all times!
I just purchased a Vanda yesterday an did not know it had to be so cared for. I'm up for it an went to the store to get distilled water. I'am soaking it in the bucket , an have it in my sunroom. It will get a lovely breeze during the day an living in Florida we have very high humidity. Hoping I have as much luck as you do . Your flowers are beautiful. That's for all the hints on keeping them healthy. Should I spray the leaves???? Is my only question. You didn't mention taht in yr video. Lindap
+Linda Provenzano Hi Linda, well first of all I wouldn't use distilled water without fertilizer, since it has very low mineral content it will deplete the orchid of nutrients, so fertilizer is needed. If your tap water is not hard water you can use tap water. Since your environment is humid this might help the orchid a lot, maybe soaks are not needed :) you can just shower or hose the roots. Leaves don't need spraying, be careful that you don't leave water in the crown and all should be fine :)
I just got my first Vanda a couple of days ago. Do you ever notice a yellowing and drooping of the bottom leaves? Are these orchids particularly sensitive to water on their leaves? It seems that after I leave it in a bucket for 15 min. or so the bottom leaves get more yellow. As far as I can remember they were partly yellow to begin with. But they seemed to have gotten more yellow since. The plant is flowering and growing new roots. There were a few dead ones that I cleaned up when I first got it. The upper leaves seem to be doing just fine, except for one yellow spot on the top that may or may not have been there when I got it. I'm drying the bottom leaves afterwards now to see if that makes a difference.
Hi, well it normally can shed one or two leaves at the bottom, but it might mean a stem infection as well. In only 2 days you cannot tell if it's normal leaf shedding or not, I doubt it is something you are doing it's too early. For now let it be, it might be normal shedding. If more and more leaves start to yellow then the axis should be inspected, as well as looking for pests (spider mites). Due to how we water vandas and how we keep them it's very rare to have issues with standing water in between the leaves, so give it a bit more time.
hi danny i have two vandas outside and it gets direct sunlight is it ok? or should i repot them because they mount on my neighbors wall.. is it fine when it only get morning shine or it needs a whole day sunlight?? sorry for giving so many questions..
+Jerhome Alindogan Hello, well this really depends on season and location. Maybe in your area the summer is not very hot. The best thing to do is to observe the orchid, if leaves start to get hot to the touch in the noon then things are risky. Also look for small sunburns, if you see any again it's not very ok. But if the vandas do just fine where they are, why fix it? :) so it's just an observation issue.
I have only one piece of vanda and it almosr long years na I take care but until now she never give me sidlings I put her in the wood and I water it once a day what will I do with her?
Hi Dani! I have two Vandas that I hang on my North facing balcony. This time of year temps range 71 - 85 Fahrenheit One of my Vandas has droopy leaves, it was heavily damaged during winter but currently have beautiful pink mottled blossoms. What might be causing the droopiness? Thanks, Liz
+Clarence Espinoza Hi, I'm not sure about what's happening from the description, can you show me a picture? just upload a picture to photobucket, flickr, instagram, imgur or g plus and share the link in a comment here, I'll take a look :)
I bought two beautiful Vandas from Lowe's hardware, my first orchids. I paid $30 for two; is that a decent price? I am currently spraying the hanging roots (no pots) with untreated but seemingly good well water. Both Vanda's seem happy as can be in my greenhouse. Do these need any fertilizer or nutrients.
+Art Cellar Hi, well you don't need to keep it in the glass like that :) you can either keep her hanging and soak it daily, or keep the roots only in the vase and water her whenever they are not green anymore by just wetting them with the shower, or however you like without soaking all the orchid. You can also pot her, but in very very lose and chunky medium. There are multiple ways to grow it :) the vase is just for decoration purposes.
Thanks Dannie, for the moment I keep the roots in the vase and watering as you advice plus following the instructions of the official seller. I will see how it goes!
I live in Florida and have a well and therefore a water softening system. I have not fertilized my Vanda in two months because I thought that is what caused the black root tips. There has been root growth but the tips quickly go black. I could have a fungus. Should I use hydrogen peroxide or a copper fungicide? Could the softened water be causing it?
Hi Danny I had a question about watering Vanda orchids I was hoping you could help me answer. I bought my Venda in a clay pot filled with coconut bark a few months ago. I've been watering it once a week for the last few months now and it's been growing quite well, The roots have been growing a few inches within the last few months. My question is should I water it everyday as you suggested? Or should I keep watering it once a week as I have been doing so long as there's still new growth? Side note I live in a apartment in Bangkok Thailand. My balcony gets about 4 hours of direct sunlight per day.
hello I wanted to know what kind of water do you use and what about watering in winter time my vanda is new and it got 2 leaves that turned yellow from the stem for the humidity I keep it in my bathroom at night and hanging on my window during the day in the living room I am scared because of these leaves I didn't bath it yet I spray it, I put cinnamon just in case it was fungus please help thanks for your answers
+wonderfulmimi28 Hi, I use tap water as it's not too hard in my area and I use lukewarm water. I water in the morning so that it has time to dry off. If the yellowing leaves on your orchid are at the bottom, it might just be normal regeneration. Orchids periodically lose bottom leaves as they grow new ones from the top. So which leaves are affected and how many of them? about humidity, I donlt hassle :) as long as I properly soak my vandas and hydrate them, they are not that fussy with high humidity, particularly these hybrids that are available in the stores. If you have 40% or so humidity I wouldn't worry. You can take a picture if you'd like me to take a look, just upload it to flickr, photobucket, g plus or instagram and share the link in a comment here and I'll see if I can spot anything wrong. Hope this helps!
Hello thanks for the fast reply, yeah after posting I saw your video on "yellow leaves on orchids" and I must say I thought it was a bacterial infection so I cut the leaf because it was located in the middle part of the plant and not at the first leaves I also noticed a lot of dust and dirt (from the purchase from Truffaut) at the same time in between the leaves I cleaned everything up with rubbing alcohol and I put a spot light to grow plants over the plants I have as we don't have much sun for the moment I leave it two hours at least in the afternoons I am waiting to see if another leaf turns yellow as the temperature is around 23 degrees celsius in my apartment it is my first vanda after buying lots of phals which I managed not to kill ;) but I think I should have waited for Spring because now I am dealing with low temperatures and not really much sun lights...even though the phals cope well with this conditions. I am taking care of her as a baby since I really want it to strive and not to die for the moment the flowers at limp and it might be the end of the blooming period. I will wait and see thank you - it was a pleasure to have these answers from you and I am still watching the videos for knowledge as they are really great and helped me lots.
+wonderfulmimi28 Thanks I am glad my videos helped :) If you'd like me to take a look at it at some point just upload a picture on photobucket, flickr, g plus or instagram and share the link in a comment here so I can see. Good luck with your Vanda, they are pretty tough even with a few months of low lights they will pull through usually :)
Hello Dani, the brown spot came back so i decided to show you some pictures I also found some pest in the orchid it was a tiny tiny black bug and I sprayed some listerin on the roots were I found it but that brown spot came back after I did everything required so here are some pictures on photo bucket
I just put the vanda there to take the pictures and usually it's hanging on the curtain rod higher it is warm today in France I am glad for her thanks for the answers
Buna Dana.
How often do mini vandas ( 3X4" ) need to be watered and do they also have to be sat in a pot... for how long? Can you recommend a good Canadian source for Vandas? ( I realize your quite far from here....)
Hi Danni, thank you for the information. I have a question. My Vanda orchid is about the size on the one you have here in this video. I bought it online. Well my plant roots are about 25 inches long and its is all intertwined with healthy roots and decaying roots. I tried my best to remove as much of the dead and decaying roots, and untangle it a bit. The roots are mossy looking and dark in colour and is still in the same pot I would say about 3 years or so. I would like to remove it from this pot, what is your suggestion and whats the easiest way you think. This is my first vanda orchid. Thank you.
hi there.i bought a vanda and. and its two roots dried up.its flower has bloomed and its leaves are starting to dry.what shall i do to save it?shall i cut the dried stem?how can i grow a root?plz help
i water every other day.i jaz bought wood chip and clay pot to try to save it.maybe it will grow a root.so far it has no roots at all.so whats ur best advice on this situation
I think Vandas do better bare root, at least for me they did. As I am saying in this video, daily soaks work best for me and for others as they tell me, so might want to give this method a go first rather than potting it.
+foong jin yu hello, well maybe it does grow but slowly? :) vandas require huge amounts of light and even sunlight to do well, can you provide that light in your bathroom? maybe conditions are not right. Can I see a picture? just upload a picture to photobucket, flickr, instagram or g plus and share the link in a comment here, I'll take a look :)
I’ve been soaking mine daily. What a pain but my Vanda loves it, happy and beautiful. I am planing on setting up a simple automatic mister aimed right at the roots. The kit comes with a timer. It has Good reviews at Home Depot and only $35. I think it will be great for vacation too. It’s called a "Patio & Potted Plant Drip Watering Kit". you can add a mister, sprayer or drip nozzle to the system as well. Also it can be setup to water all your other patio plants on timer. Here’s the link www.homedepot.com/p/raindrip-Automatic-Container-and-Hanging-Baskets-Kit-R560DP/205466107?keyword=Automatic+Container+and+Hanging+Baskets+Kit
Hi miss orchid girl im ian from the philippines i just wanna ask whats the solution for rotting leaves cause my vanda robert delight blue is rotting leaves when a new crown is rising the lower leaves rot it will start with small black spots until it inhabit all the leaves and can i put it or stick it to the wood with direct sunlight??hope you can help me plss😊God bless😃
Hi, I am not sure what the spots are, can I see a picture? just upload a picture to photobucket, flickr, instagram, imgur or g plus and share the link in a comment here, I'll take a look :) are you wetting the leaves when you water it?
Hello miss orchid girl. please help me . I have a Vanda that she is about 36in long but something is wrong . she has about 24 inches with no leaf on it and it looks dry. she has about 3 good roots on her. my daughther said that its dying.the leaf are green and a new one is coming out but the leaf are a little wrinkle. I live in Miami Fla where is hot and humit. Please Help.
I tried soaking my vanda for 15 minutes, still get yellow leaves at bottom of plant, in fact have lost several leaves past few months. I have hung the plant in northern exposure in Texas. The setting sun does come on it. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks
hi!!! i just bought my first orchid-vanda.. without any research... and due to language barrier i failed to understand that i have to water vanda everyday in hot humid bangkok weather. it already had a lot of brown roots.. quite long ones.. i just found your channel and immediately soaked my vanda in water... could you please tell me what to do with 80% roots of this plant that appears dead (dark brown)
tahzeeba hi, the darkened roots might be dead, if they are not firm but mushy then they are dead. You can cut those away. If the roots are firm and they green up when wet and stay silver when dry then they are alive. But just make sure the roots that are dark are really dead. You can send me a picture if you'd like, upload a picture on photobucket and send me the link here in a comment.
MissOrchidGirl after i post the query i couldnt sleep. i have already cut those dead roots. now i am left with grey/green roots and droopy light leaves.. very unhappy tree. i will post a pic in the morning. its great that you gave me suggestions so soon. thanks a bunch!
+justin bieber you should soak only the root system not the entire orchid, I have no choice due to the size of the orchid, but if you can, only soak the root system, not the entire keiki :)

Thanks for the tip! We hang our vanda's upside down because it tends to be top heavy and prevents water from pooling inside its leaves. it may look strange but the vanda does not mind at all. Kisses for the philippines
Queencymae Dela Cruz yep I've seen this before :) don;t they have the tendency to straighten up?
It doesn't seem to effect the growth direction. Even the root growth doesnt change. :)

@@MissOrchidGirl :
Nice new orchid video series and I think you encouraged me to get a vanda orchid.
Leyder Gonzalez don;t worry it's perfectly normal, some Phals do grow 2 leaves at the same time, she might indeed be a vigorous hybrid :)
Thank you for this video I just inherited one and am trying to keep it alive
I have been looking for cans/buckets like you have. Where might I find those? I like the locking lid and the size is perfect.
They appreciate airflow. If you are a overwaterer, watering then daily won't kill them.
I have two Vanda hybrids and since I water them daily, sometimes twice a day and keep the roots surrounded by Spanish moss, I have a complet new flower spike with 9 buds on it
Like your explanation. Very clear.
Will try even for one vanda.
Your vandas are so beautiful
PlantzNThings Thanks Bill :) how is your Vanda seedling doing?
Lookin Lovely! I really hope this summer I get my first blooms... Fingers crossed.
PlantzNThings ow my fingers crossed here too! :D you really had patience with it :))
oh yes it has been 5+ years..lol.. sure I didn't really care for it during 3 of those years..
I love the shape of the vanda orchid, and the flowers are gorgeous, I will defo have to keep an eye out for one :) you are so clever and kowledgeable about them all, and you have a nice friendly speaking voice, keep up the good work, and keep these videos coming :)
Rosemary457 thanks Rosemary, I'm glad you like my videos :D
Thanks for your videos! You answered a lot of my vanda questions!
Can we spray fertilizer to our vanda or phalaenopsis? What fertilizer Maam? Thanks...😊
Your video really helpd a lot
Hello Dani.I am really, really thankful for your videos😃.In the past, when I didn't know much about orchids,I killed a few.Oops😰.Your videos helped me a lot.I first started with Phals,Dendrobiums and now I recently bought a Vanda😁.Hope it survive well in my flat.Orchids have become addiction to me although I don't have much space(wish I have😭).Anyway, can you please make a video on how to fertilize a Vanda? My vanda is hanging freely in a basket and I have no idea how to fertilize it.😄.Once again, thank you for your videos😄
You have mentioned, make sure don't water the vanda leaves, only water the roots, but if it rains everyday.
vanda é uma orquidea muito linda, super inscrita
@missorchidgirl how often should I water a vanda gigantea that's in a pot with bark chips under a grow light in my home for the winter
Hi, water whenever it gets dry, no matter how often that is :)
@@MissOrchidGirl I decided to do bare root with no medium so should I soak the roots of the rhynchostylis gigantea everyday?
hey there!thank you for the video!!
So now I'm a little bit confused...in the natures nobody drys them up but seems they can thrive anyway... so?
Do I need to change the water for dunking them I do not change my water I have a metal tub that I fill with rain water please let me know
What is the best fertilizer to use on vandas,?
Hi Danny, do you use artificial air circulator for your orchid (ex.like fan) ? Because it seems that you put all your orchid indoor but they all thriving, especially for vanda which as far as i know need good air circulation. Thanks
I do have a question that no one can seem to answer most of my vandas that grow all Winter in the tent in my basement have very short new growth the leaf span is very small do you know what might cause this they grow under LED lights
What’s the best fertilizer for vanda orchids
Hi Dannie, how do you care for vanda during a vacation (2-3 weeks)? Thank you.
Yes, I always wonder about this!
hi ms orchid girl do you mind if i asked what is tha particular name, the thing you used in hanging tha vanda,,where we can buy it?thank you
I leave my vanda in the tub with barely 2 cups of water. Only the roots touch water. I leave it there overnight and in early morning i take it out. Half the amount of water is taken by the plant and it is well hydrated.
I always wanted to try and grow a vanda where I live here in NYS,
Kurt Nehrbass well why not :)
So what about a vanda gigantea that's in a pot how with bark chips how often should I water that
So it looks like if the initial bit of the axes gets into water while you aok it, it's ok aslong as the upbit (the crown) does get wet?
My large mokara only has one air root. In bloom but need to encourage more roots. I hang it and soak the only root twice a day.
Hi
My daughter was given a vanda orchid in a pot as a gift and I have no idea how to take care of it.
Вітаю! Гарні Ванди у Вас👍
Ціко про добрива, користуєтесь?
Hi, I just bought a vanda orchid on clearance. Got it for $5 it's a (V. Jiriprara x Devaraks) x Ascda. Butterfly.it's very dehydrated so my question is what do you recommend I do to rehydrate it? Thanks X
+XaViEr3520 hello, well does your orchid have any roots that are still viable and green up when watered?
+MissOrchidGirl yeah I soaked it for an hour and cut off all the brown roots and left the green roots
I have a question about Vanda orchids. I have 2, one of them has 2 in one basket what do I do?
Hey,I'm a beginner, I have two vanda orchids, can I put them in the rain, because I have them in the shade and I'm having trouble getting new roots, help
Thank you very good information. 🌿🌸🌿🌸🌿🐲🌾🌿
Really like vandas ! Thanks Danni
John McCarthy my pleasure :)
Thank you for this important information!
I have mine growing in lava rocks in a 6 " orchid pot. I'm new to growing Vanda's. How often should I be watching it?
Richard Lewis any time the roots are silvery dry, this will depends on environment :)
Is it the same way to care for mokara orchids?
In the wild/nature, how do vanda orchids stop water getting stuck inside the crown, when it rains ?
Hi, they don't need to. Vanda habitat is very warm and breezy, water tends to evaporates much faster :)
Great 👍🏻 video!
Can i attach my strap leaf vanda on a post?
@@MissOrchidGirl how often should I water a vanda gigantea that's in a pot with bark chips inside my home for the winter under grow lights
hi danny i have two vandas outside and it gets direct sunlight is it ok? or should i repot them because they mount on my neighbors wall.. is it fine when it only get morning shine or it needs a whole day sunlight?? sorry for giving so many questions..
+MissOrchidGirl thanks now i know what to do :)
I have only one piece of vanda and it almosr long years na I take care but until now she never give me sidlings I put her in the wood and I water it once a day what will I do with her?
what are your day and night temps on average during the winter and summer?
Hi Dani! I have two Vandas that I hang on my North facing balcony. This time of year temps range 71 - 85 Fahrenheit One of my Vandas has droopy leaves, it was heavily damaged during winter but currently have beautiful pink mottled blossoms. What might be causing the droopiness? Thanks, Liz
hi danny, my vanda orchid has black stripes maybe that were the roots that snapped is that ok?
+Clarence Espinoza Hi, I'm not sure about what's happening from the description, can you show me a picture? just upload a picture to photobucket, flickr, instagram, imgur or g plus and share the link in a comment here, I'll take a look :)
I was told by the person I bought it from to mist the leaves above also. Do you do this?
Hi, no I never mist any of my orchids :)
Would I water my Aerides houlletiana the same way as you watered your Vanda?
wow so nice flowers
GD day. Wer can I buy oncidium? Thnx
Here I bought two beautiful vandas for just $22.
I bought 1 Vanda for $48.
Hi I received a vanda in a glass vase and I do not know how to water it because the whole plant is inside the vase.
+Art Cellar, how has your vanda held up this past year?
I live in Florida and have a well and therefore a water softening system. I have not fertilized my Vanda in two months because I thought that is what caused the black root tips. There has been root growth but the tips quickly go black. I could have a fungus. Should I use hydrogen peroxide or a copper fungicide? Could the softened water be causing it?
Ca. Sue did she answer you?
Hi Dani. why does my Vanda leaves close or fold and does not open wide like yours?
it's because it's too dry
Hi Danny I had a question about watering Vanda orchids I was hoping you could help me answer. I bought my Venda in a clay pot filled with coconut bark a few months ago. I've been watering it once a week for the last few months now and it's been growing quite well, The roots have been growing a few inches within the last few months.
My question is should I water it everyday as you suggested? Or should I keep watering it once a week as I have been doing so long as there's still new growth?
Side note I live in a apartment in Bangkok Thailand. My balcony gets about 4 hours of direct sunlight per day.
Can i repotting in mixed soil?
do you use the same water bucket for more than one vandas?
hello I wanted to know what kind of water do you use and what about watering in winter time my vanda is new and it got 2 leaves that turned yellow from the stem for the humidity I keep it in my bathroom at night and hanging on my window during the day
in the living room I am scared because of these leaves I didn't bath it yet I spray it, I put cinnamon just in case it was fungus please help thanks for your answers
I just put the vanda there to take the pictures and usually it's hanging on the curtain rod higher it is warm today in France I am glad for her thanks for the answers
hi do u know how and when to water waling waling . my media is dead tree stem with coconut fiber and husk...
+Jumarie Brinan well you just see that it is dry :) what type of pot are you using? plastic clear? or clay?
Hi once the flowers fall off do you cut the stem
You use the same water for all the vanda ?
Hi, how often did you water it?
i water every other day.i jaz bought wood chip and clay pot to try to save it.maybe it will grow a root.so far it has no roots at all.so whats ur best advice on this situation
I think Vandas do better bare root, at least for me they did. As I am saying in this video, daily soaks work best for me and for others as they tell me, so might want to give this method a go first rather than potting it.
Hi there my vanda is not growing leaves and roots but it is still green in colour I kept it in my bathroom is that okay ? what is the cause of it?
+foong jin yu hello, well maybe it does grow but slowly? :) vandas require huge amounts of light and even sunlight to do well, can you provide that light in your bathroom? maybe conditions are not right. Can I see a picture? just upload a picture to photobucket, flickr, instagram or g plus and share the link in a comment here, I'll take a look :)
+MissOrchidGirl Hello can i send it through Facebook?
+foong jin yu sometimes fb is private.. you can try but I usually don;t see fb links.
+MissOrchidGirl Hi there I shared hope you can see it thank you!
+foong jin yu please paste the link here in a comment, I don;t usually check facebook, I check youtube every day.
Thank you for your reply. I have mine in atrium with regular screen mesh. I have since placed some of mine under trees and they look really good.
+Renita Ferreira as long as the orchid looks healthy and it also blooms, all is ok :)
Hello, Danni... What if u r going to a week long holidays, what r u gonna do to keep the no media Vanda alive?
I’ve been soaking mine daily. What a pain but my Vanda loves it, happy and beautiful. I am planing on setting up a simple automatic mister aimed right at the roots. The kit comes with a timer. It has Good reviews at Home Depot and only $35. I think it will be great for vacation too. It’s called a "Patio & Potted Plant Drip Watering Kit". you can add a mister, sprayer or drip nozzle to the system as well. Also it can be setup to water all your other patio plants on timer. Here’s the link www.homedepot.com/p/raindrip-Automatic-Container-and-Hanging-Baskets-Kit-R560DP/205466107?keyword=Automatic+Container+and+Hanging+Baskets+Kit

yes they just appeared recently
Hello miss orchid girl. please help me . I have a Vanda that she is about 36in long but something is wrong . she has about 24 inches with no leaf on it and it looks dry. she has about 3 good roots on her. my daughther said that its dying.the leaf are green and a new one is coming out but the leaf are a little wrinkle. I live in Miami Fla where is hot and humit. Please Help.
A saw one vanda orchid in a glass container, do you recommend that?
Syci
I tried soaking my vanda for 15 minutes, still get yellow leaves at bottom of plant, in fact have lost several leaves past few months. I have hung the plant in northern exposure in Texas. The setting sun does come on it. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks
Same problem for me living in Paris :'(
If the roots get too long do you cut them
Thanks.. ur tips easy to understand
hi!!! i just bought my first orchid-vanda.. without any research... and due to language barrier i failed to understand that i have to water vanda everyday in hot humid bangkok weather. it already had a lot of brown roots.. quite long ones.. i just found your channel and immediately soaked my vanda in water... could you please tell me what to do with 80% roots of this plant that appears dead (dark brown)
tahzeeba hi, the darkened roots might be dead, if they are not firm but mushy then they are dead. You can cut those away. If the roots are firm and they green up when wet and stay silver when dry then they are alive. But just make sure the roots that are dark are really dead. You can send me a picture if you'd like, upload a picture on photobucket and send me the link here in a comment.
MissOrchidGirl after i post the query i couldnt sleep. i have already cut those dead roots. now i am left with grey/green roots and droopy light leaves.. very unhappy tree. i will post a pic in the morning. its great that you gave me suggestions so soon. thanks a bunch!
tahzeeba with good care the orchid will pull through, it's normal to look a bit sad after a stress like this.

Hi, does your Vanda have a good root system? what is your watering schedule?
once a week
once a week
once a week

The spike of my strap leaf vanda withers...what's wrong with my vanda?
is it okay to soak the keiki of the vanda orchid like you did ????
+justin bieber you should soak only the root system not the entire orchid, I have no choice due to the size of the orchid, but if you can, only soak the root system, not the entire keiki :)
Very educational
