    Hi Danni, I have 45 vandas so I can't afford to soak them at all. I spray them everyday and they do well for me. There are a lot of trees where I live, so it all depends on your environment. I also have my anthuriums directly below my vandas so they can add humidity.

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  9 лет назад +3

      Ana Sam Hi Ana, like I say in the video, if you grow them in an apartment or a house and your environment is pretty dry and warm, spraying is not enough. If it's more humid then things change ;)

    Hey Danny, I have been watching your videos for months. I've learnt alot from you and I have to say thank you. I have joint an orchid association now. I new almost nothing when I started watching. I have a vanda that someone wanted to throw out, as it was almost dead with closed leaves. It seems to be coming along, thanks to your advise. When it recovers completely, I will send you a picture.

    Are you psychic Ms. Danny?! A week ago I received my Vanda from AuSable and I've been reading but I've yet to check your site regarding Vandas. Today is that day and what did I see? Vanda!!! Thank you! I went and purchased more orchids today. I'm running out of room! I may have to ask my family to move out. :-)

    So I have a funny story ...
    I have a few Vanda’s and I have a watering bucket with fertilized water and a large fish bubbler to give the water oxygen while the plants are in the water. So beginning of the month I put the my vanda parchara delight in the bucket to get water before work and kept forgetting to remove it from the bucket for about 4 days ... now the Vanda kept getting strong light while in the watering bucket and on the 5 day it has pushed out a sizable flower spike. And now my vanda is getting water and placed back in the watering bucket every other day. My buck is a 5 gallon bucket from a hardware store. Like Home Depot. The Vanda Patchara delight seems to love water and the spike keeps growing
    One fertilizer I have started using in my bucket is about 1 1/2 cups of plain black coffee ... it adds Nitrogen and is a PH 5.5 along with som good Phosphorus & potassium and other fertilizers but the Nitrogen & Phosphorus being the strongest.
    I never realize how heavy drinkers the Vanda Patchara’s are. Thanks for all your videos !!! Love all of them !

    That's some pretty serious stuff going on with those buckets of water.. :) I can just picture you in the morning with stiefel und lederhosen while fetching buckets of water at the well after you've fed the chickens.. :) Seriously, Vandas do require copious amounts of water and unless one is growing in a humid climate outdoors or growing under controlled conditions such as in a greenhouse, heavy watering is the answer.. along with lots of bright light... Even here in South Florida, direct, full morning sun does not hurt the plant one bit which is a good indication that anywhere else full sunshine is a must. Great video.. :)

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  9 лет назад

      John Benedict ORCHIDS hahahaha yes it's not quite like that, I feed my dove instead of the chickens and I use this water for a week or so, so only once a week I run around with buckets :P but yes pretty much :)))

    Danni, just purchased a really large Vanda with a wonderful root system. I have placed the basket in a glass vase that is 7"x18". The humidity level in the vase is high with constant condensation. I have it placed in a West facing window. Even with this tall vase, there are plenty of roots in the bottom of the vase. How should I care for it ... the water levels... fertilization? Is this condensation a good thing or should I have it in a dryer environment? Please help.

It's the first one I got from a friend, she had it in full sun, attached to a smaĺ tree-I would say a year now. The top of it has 4 flat leaves and moves as if it were to fall off!¿?¡ Does it mean it's going to die? I hve watered it and applied fertilizer!? What am I supposed to do now?

    Hello MissOrchidGirl,
    Always nice watching your channel, I learn so much. :)
    I have 2 vanda orchids currently. Both are strap-leaf and I know they need a lot of sunlight to bloom. We are not getting enough light here in MI even in May (Literally raining every day here, with some low temperatures here and there.). The 2 vandas are not in the best condition when I bought them so I feel like I'm currently trying to save them but I know that I can't possibly get it back to good health without sufficient sunlight.
    I would like to know can I get blooms with LED lights? How strong would the LED light be in order to see good results? Would You recommend any really good LED's that you have heard of with excellent results?
    Thank you so much!

    I had a vanda orchid that bloomed every year till the top growth was damage. It grew two new plants from the side. Three years later it is so large and healthy, and getting a good amount of sunlight among others that hangs bloomed, but the new plants that are now well established and large have not bloomed at all. They should have bloomed last year. They are now long looking because of all of the growth, with lots of leaves, but no bloom. Are these growth sterile? They are growing from the part of the plant were it already bloomed.

    My vanda orchid have not grown flowers for two years! And it is getting plenty of sunlight. It hasn’t flower since the top got damage and it had to grow from the bottom of the stem. Could it be that if it grows from an area of the stem where it has already flowered, that new growth becomes sterile?

    Hi Dani, I just subscribed to your informative videos. I am soaking my vanda every day for 13-30 minutes. I collect rain water and am wondering if water needs to be luke warm? I keep the water on my back porch in tub and it gets pretty cool. Does this have an effect on the orchid? I purchased the orchid about 6 months ago. To date, I have not had any blooms. I just moved it to the southeast window, so maybe that will promote blooming. Prior to that, I had it hanging on back porch facing northwest. Please let me know whether temperature of water makes any difference. Thank you!

    Hi , I'm Abel . I keep hearing about growing Vanda Orchids in glass vase with water . May ask if its possible that you do a small tutorial on the matter . I would like to know how healthy that is to a Vanda in the long run and how to do it properly. Please and thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge with us . :)

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  9 лет назад

      Ellofez Hi, unfortunately my Vandas don't fit in any vases, their roots are too big :) but about growing in a glass vase, many people do that but with no water. The vase is filled with water only when watering the Vanda. The rest of the time it should stay without water, until the roots become silvery and need a drink again. This can be every few days. Other than that, I know people growing them this way, so it should work. I will try to make a video if I find a big enough vase :)

    Does vanda require similar light as den. nobile? Currently they receive partially shaded sun from morning until about 3 pm. Btw, I finally got a pachara delight this weekend thanks to you. I bought it at discount because it's done in blooming.

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  9 лет назад

      Jackie Fu congrats on your new Vanda :D yes I think the amount of light you provide should be ok for them :) Vandas require a bit more sun than Den nobile, Nobiles can bloom even in lower light conditions.

    I'm looking into purchasing my first vanda! I've managed not to kill my other orchids as well as get them into bloom! But when you set that vanda in the water bucket to let it soak, you went seemed to dunk a few inches into the actual plant, not just the roots. Wouldn't water into the first few inches of base cause crown rot? Or is that only at the top? (Crown of the orchid)

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  8 лет назад +1

      Hi Lauren :) it is inevitable to get a bit of the stem into the water, but I usually soak them only in the morning so the warmth and the sun makes water dry faster during day time. Also these orchids were hanging so they received a lot of ventilation. Risks are pretty minimal since there is no medium to maintain high humidity near the axis. If this was in a pot the risks would have been higher.

      Hi, as I was saying in the video it might be a light issue. The fertilizer I used for my vandas was a Schwerter one, but the brand doesn't matter much. Just try to look for a complete fertilizer with micro nutrients as well, a nitrate based fertilizer is better than a urea one.

      Rosemary457 Danni a quick question for you, Do you know anything about the Bulbophyllium Medusae, I really like this plant and it's flowers, They are so unsuual with their long hair, But I have no clue about them,Do you have one? are they hard to grow that sort of thing, thanks Rosemary:-)

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  9 лет назад

      Rosemary457 well depends how you want to grow your Vanda, if you cannot soak it every day maybe a pot will work too. If the orchid fits in a pot, make sure the media is super airy, large bark chunks or even hydroton clay balls will be ok. Use a pot that is heavy as it will get very top heavy and prone to falling over. You can also keep it hanging in a basket like I do, but it needs daily soaks. About the bulbo, I don't have that one but it should take basic bulbo care, intermediate to bright light, media slightly moist at all times, that's the basic care :P

    hey OG, I picked up my first oncidium and dendrobium today. I messed up, Please tell me I did not. It is a very large oncidium with 6 pseudobulbs and three large flamboyant flower spikes. On the way home, it keeps falling over. When I got home I place it in a pot and it falls over again even though it was secured. I removed it from the very tiny pot it had outgrown and put it in a bigger pot with bark media mix, but the bad news the roots were disturbed a little. Will the flowers open? They were about to break off some of the leaves did get damaged from the falls. None of the pseudobulbs got damage. It is the small flowers oncidium. I paid Canadian $50 for this large plan at the orchid nursery. Needs your feedback OG fast I need to sleep I have become an addict in a short time.

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  8 лет назад

      Hi, well it's not a rule that they will fall, but I cannot say if they will or won't, it's always different. In some cases orchids lose flowers without being disturbed if the new environment is too different from their previous one. But it's ok don;t worry, happens to all of us and maybe it will still bloom :)

      +Jumarie Brinan Hi, there is no perfect fertilizer.. not yet at least :) here is what I use ruclips.net/video/Orkegtu_6HY/видео.html I guess you talk about the Dendrobium anosmum. Well research it a bit, they need a winter rest and some cool temperatures to initiate flowering, maybe that is the problem.

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  8 лет назад

      +Jumarie Brinan oops no it's a vanda not a dendrobium :P ok make sure the environment is proper, light temperature and everything. Maybe there is an issue there.

    How often do you change the water in the buckets?

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  9 лет назад

      +Jan Karlsson depends how fast it gets dirty but usually once a week at least.

    • @jankarlsson7288
      @jankarlsson7288 8 лет назад

      Thanks. Do you have one bucket per vanda or do you dip them in the same one? =)

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  8 лет назад

      +Jan Karlsson no I have 2 buckets only, I have 6 Vandas and no room for 6 buckets lol, it's a compromise :P

      If possible, can I send you a picture of my vanda. I’ve had it for a year and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. This is my first orchid plant and I really don’t want to lose it. I watched your videos and I have been taking your advice but nothing. 🙁
      Please help me!

      I think watering is the main thing for vandas they like daily watering twice when its hot, weekly fertilizing, lot of light and just have patience it will thrive.

    why some of my vanda and the other one is waling waling does not bloom but I water them 2 times a day

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  8 лет назад

      +Jumarie Brinan there might be multiple causes, but make sure you are giving them the correct care, watering is not all they need to survive :)

    It's almost a year now and all my Vanda orchids haven't had any blooms and I have no idea why. I keep on spraying fertilizer once a week according to the instructions and I think they receive enough sunlight 😭

      MissOrchidGirl it's out of the flask. what the good media for it (young/baby vanda)? and how to care? thank you

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  9 лет назад

      Hendra Adipranata oh I see, I don't have much experience with deflasked orchids, but since it is a seedling I would use some sphagnum moss but still keep it fluffy and aerated, Vandas don't like to be suffocated in media.

      MissOrchidGirl oh I see. How about the needs of light for that orchid?. Is it same as youth/adult vanda? (how much percent of light ? :-))
