Kit: You really excelled in your determination on the pump ring. I took a dozen rings off different vehicles brands, during my life time, but none were so tight. Wish you best health.
This was very cool. I just did this same job on a 2012 Highlander with the exact same ring. I have a tool similar to the new one you bought. I used an air impact driver on it with low air and it removed it really well. Of course mine was not so stuck as yours. Using WD40 was a good idea in your case and so was the rubber mallet. I could really feel your frustration but you won with your usual determination. Good job!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair This is what I usually do as well with the rubber mallet to knock some of the dirt that's preventing it from sliding, rubber can be really stuck if debri and rust got into it. Image some of the dipstick to check the engine, such a small rubber can get so stuck that you can almost lift the engine with it if you pull it hard enough lol
Good diagnosis and patience! I wonder why the engine didn’t try to start with the starting fluid in the first video? Also don’t let any hateful comments discourage you from! We appreciate the time you take to share your experience.
@bartscave Thank you! I don't really know why the starting fluid didn't start the engine maybe the throttle was completely shut or maybe just air came out of the can when I sprayed it
You have the patience of a Saint. What should have been a strait forward fuel pump replacement turned out to be a mind blowing ball breaker. I would have said some graphic profanity at that super tight fuel pump retainer ring.

Hi Kit, I was cursing that plastic nut hoping it would turn. Just a couple of things that would have helped to unscrew it, First adjust that tree legged tool so that it just fitted down the outside of the plastic nut and tighten it's three nuts with a spanner to hold the legs from splaying out. Now before trying to undo the plastic nut lift the tool off, wrap a small towel tight around the plastic nut and slowly pour a kettle full of hot water into the towel to expand the plastic nut, then quickly fit and turn the three legged tool while the nut is still warm.
These call for .8 hours per Mitchell. This pump made you work for that. Book time never factors these situations unfortunately. Nice work brother, love your videos
Wow! I appreciate your patience. You are an honest person, you show as all the challenges too. I'm happy for you that you did it. I learned a lot. Thanks
Great vid, thx for posting! FYI Most of the videos I've seen on corolla/vibe/matrix fuel pump removal use a brass or wooden dowel & a hammer for ring removal, in case the removal tool isn't working. Looks like that 3 arm one works ok.
I was surprised when you was trying to open the ring of the fuel pump. Initially you require a helping hand to push the tool against the ring when you are getting it to open. Next time try this option. Secondly if you use this tool you must first slightly get the ring loose by a flat screw driver and a hammmer . The ring will rotate in seconds. I appreciate your work in all your videos
@malikishtiaq7950 I appreciate your feedback, I've removed countless amounts of fuel pump locking rings in my life this one was somethingg else, a screw driver and hammer was gonna destroy the ring right away! it was so so tight
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair Normally this is very tight because of the fuel pump assembly is pushing upward direction, While rotating the gently push the assembly down side and rotate the ring. 1. remove the pump fuse, or disconnect the battery. (Safety ) 2. before removing the ring ,use the small vacuum cleaner to clear all the dirt. ( to prevent any dirt falling into the tank ) 3. At 15:40, I saw the pump assembly rotate clockwise in relation to the lock ring as the tool broke away. I figured it would come right off after that. The regulator is in the assembly. Also, at 33:32 you can see smoke coming out when you rev engine...I think the manifolds sometimes crack on these engines.
Thank you so much for the videos and so much patience! Also your logic in doing the work - It should you have potential to be a successful person in life. Good luck!
Those fuel tank caps are HARD. I had to make one from scratch for a HILUX bakkie in order to remove that thing. You need to use a long breaker bar and turn SLOWLY until it starts moving... once it moves you are in the clear.
