    First time visiting your channel. You hit some key components that I really like:
    * You looked at FF data. This helps tremendously.
    * You suggest OEM. Cannot tell you how many times I (and iatn members) have bashed my head against the wall on a problem due to aftermarket parts.
    One thing that would be very nice, is to put down a final fix. Yes, your fuel delivery is low, and most likely a fuel pump, but until this repair is completed we do not know for sure. It's like me waving a magic chicken bone at a Cadillac w/ cam codes and say that it is a stretched timing chain.
    Honestly, I thought for sure it was going to be defective injectors as this ( and MAF sensor) is the main cause of this code off idle.

  • @chukachuka17

    This is wonderful. I'm greatly impressed. Diagnosis made easy. I have a 2008 BMW 535i which I have been battling with lean code bank 2. Funny enough the LTFT is high both on banks 1 and 2. But it only reports code for bank 2. Fuel trim doesn't get better with increasing RPM. Fuel pressure on scan tool is normal at idle. What am I possibly dealing with. I have ruled out vacuum leak with a smoke machine. Your big fan from Nigeria

      @chukachuka17 measure a fuel pressure with a pressure gauge and see what happens, if fuel pressure is good, then do the injector flow rate test!

      Fuel Volume Testing is Great , however ; absolutely unnecessary .
      With Long Term Fuel Trims pegged @ 35 % - the Vehicles Computer is telling me that it had to Add 35 % of Fuel to bring the Vehicle back to 14.7 % Air & 1 % Fuel - I woulda connected a Fuel Pressure Gauge within 5 minutes after the Book told me the Fuel Pressure Specs. for this Vehicle or ANY vehicle.

      Having + 35% means there is not the proper amount of fuel in the combustión chamber when he increases the rpm to 3,500 and I see those numbers I would have gone for maf sensoe not fuel , since from 600 RPM to 3,000 rpm you never change the Inyección pulse at all with no loads how the fuel pressure can afecct when you did not demand for Inyección pulse ?0@cbarkwell1000

    When you run into this issue after you fixed the vacuum leak the catalyst can be plugged up in the exhaust also and that can cause the same symptoms as a low fuel pressure problem the car will start and idle fine but stumble and fall on its face when you try to accelerate you can easily check this with a simple vacuum gauge that also has a low fuel pressure gauge on it too when you rev the engine you will get a small increase in vacuum but then it will reverse and go towards a pressure on the intake this is the exhaust gases backing up inside the engine due to the pipes being plugged up at the catalytic converter Id definitely still check the fuel filter and fuel pressure and volume first though.

      @Bill-wz6tw Good Point! I agree with you!

    • @spelunkerd
      @spelunkerd 4 месяца назад

      That's a good point, in the case where fuel trim is not giving direction. It's a blind spot for the PCM because exhaust pressure is not monitored (much like EGR problems). In this case, the clearly lean condition pointed elsewhere.

    Good Diagnostic. I find the U.S. version of this Toyota usually has a seperate fuel filter ( in addition to the in tank filter on the pump ). The seperate filter is very poor quality and plugs up easily and may be why the pumps fail. Pretty common here. I replace the filter with a better non-toyota part. Of course new pump also....
    Note: this version may not have the seperate filter.

  • @billsmith2212

    Great lesson . It pays to be thorough in thw beginning . Some places also replace the fuel filter automatically . And the relay . They may tell the customer if the relay goes bad and you are stuck in a month , no warranty on the your old relay . Overkill but careful .

    Don't assume the problem is the fuel pump it could be a pinched line or a plugged fuel filter or inlet screen also remember pumps don't create fuel pressure they only create flow pressure is created by a restriction in the system anywhere along the path of this flow changing the pump may fix it but you shouldn't be so fast to just jump to that conclusion

      @user-lb1zg7wb4f Thank you! when You pump the brake pedal while the engine is idling you create a lean condition on a vehicle that has a vacuum operated brake booster, because in the booster there is vacuum on one side and atmospheric pressure on the other, so pumping the brake pedal allows air to enter the vacuum chamber and create a lean condition, since the vacuum side is attached to the intake manifold, when this happens 02 sensors that are good react to the mixture change very fast, indicating good 02 sensors!!

    Sit at 46% stfl 24% ltft at idle
    and 36% stft 24% ltft at 3k rpm
    Funny thing is I'm getting the best fuel economy I've ever had with this car, I use to get about 22 mpg per tank all highway, now I'm averaging about 28mpg per tank
    Same p0171 code as well, spent the better part of the day looking at the scanner, checking for air leaks, spraying starter fluid everywhere, using pliers to block vacuum lines to look for any improvement as well, gotten no where at all.

    Why did your A/F wideband sensor remain at near zero amps while the downstream Oxygen sensor accurately read a rich reading? The wideband A/F sensor should have read positive mAmps if in a lean condition but it did not. In fact, the wideband A/F sensor was fairly unresponsive. A bad fuel pump should have given a lean reading on the upstream A/F sensor (positive milliamps) if the fuel quantity was inadequate. I bet this vehicle comes back next week with the same complaint.

      @fowvee No! you are wrong this vehicle is fixed and customer is happy after the fuel pump assembly was replaced, Some wideband sensor read reverse polarity, negative numbers don't always mean lean condition! Be careful my friend!!

      @fowvee 4 месяца назад

      @@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair Thanks for the reply. With wideband sensors a lean condition will actually give a postive milliamp reading. But, if you say it's fixed then you would know best. Thanks again.

    Can anyone tell me why the car should run lean when pumping the brake pedal. I understand it uses vacuum for the brake booster, but why does that cause a lean issue?

    • @KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair
      @KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair  4 месяца назад

      @stevencroft4850 when You pump the brake pedal while the engine is idling you create a lean condition on a vehicle that has a vacuum operated brake booster, because in the booster there is vacuum on one side and atmospheric pressure on the other, so pumping the brake pedal allows air to enter the vacuum chamber and create a lean condition, since the vacuum side is attached to the intake manifold, when this happens 02 sensors that are good react to the mixture change very fast, indicating good 02 sensors!!
