Definitely one of the best technicians on RUclips. The guy is worth gold! Very detailed and thorough in his explanation. He has helped me tremendously allowing me to eliminate certain factors I was concerned about regarding P0171, which is a pain in the butt code which leads to all sorts of other codes to appear.. I’m a big fan of this guy and will be following him day in and day out. In a short span of time, I have learned so many things from him. First time visiting your channel. You hit some key components that I really like:
    * You looked at FF data. This helps tremendously.
    * You suggest OEM. Cannot tell you how many times I (and iatn members) have bashed my head against the wall on a problem due to aftermarket parts.
One thing that would be very nice, is to put down a final fix. Yes, your fuel delivery is low, and most likely a fuel pump, but until this repair is completed we do not know for sure. It's like me waving a magic chicken bone at a Cadillac w/ cam codes and say that it is a stretched timing chain.
Honestly, I thought for sure it was going to be defective injectors as this ( and MAF sensor) is the main cause of this code off idle.

This is easily the best video I have ever seen. It perfectly explains the relationship between fuel trims, and o2 sensors, fuel supply, air and vacuum. I just went through my truck chasing a no code misfire and very bad fuel trims. I found a point where my fuel psi would completely drop to zero and spike back up. I found my ACDelco fuel pump purchased one year ago that only has 6k miles on it has a low fuel pressure with random drops. Wiring between the fuel pump control module look better than they should for their age. 😂. Voltage to pump is strong and constant. Now I am waiting for my warranty replacement and trying to burn up all the fuel in the tank. At least when I was in there last, I replaced all the fuel lines. I am going to inspect the wiring very closely when I get that tank dropped. I have heard that can be a problem point for gm trucks. Great video!!!

@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair Oh oh, I was on my way home and thinking about what you had discussed in this video. Short term fuel trims were pretty good but long term wher 14 and 11. I gave it some gas and the long term fuel trims dropped quickly. As soon as I got to a stop light the long term fuel trims jumped. It seems I must have a vacuum leak. At least I have a direction I can look into my next day off. Looks like I am going to use a fluid transferring pump and a cigar and hopefully find my leak. Thank you so much for the video, it taught me a new trick and just may of helped me fix my truck. 🙏😂

You gotta admit that having such low pressure perfectly explains the fuel trims. Back in the old days (1990 OBD1), we used adjustable fuel pressure regulators to increase fueling during open loop, during closed loop, the ECM would just pull the extra fuel, but not complain unless you were running absurd fuel pressure that it couldn't correct for.

But it only reports code for bank 2. Fuel trim doesn't get better with increasing RPM. Fuel pressure on scan tool is normal at idle. What am I possibly dealing with. With Long Term Fuel Trims pegged @ 35 % - the Vehicles Computer is telling me that it had to Add 35 % of Fuel to bring the Vehicle back to 14.7 % Air & 1 % Fuel - I woulda connected a Fuel Pressure Gauge within 5 minutes after the Book told me the Fuel Pressure Specs. for this Vehicle or ANY vehicle.

Having + 35% means there is not the proper amount of fuel in the combustión chamber when he increases the rpm to 3,500 and I see those numbers I would have gone for maf sensoe not fuel , since from 600 RPM to 3,000 rpm you never change the Inyección pulse at all with no loads how the fuel pressure can afecct when you did not demand for Inyección pulse ?0@cbarkwell1000

    • @KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair
      @KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair  9 месяцев назад

@user-lb1zg7wb4f Thank you! when You pump the brake pedal while the engine is idling you create a lean condition on a vehicle that has a vacuum operated brake booster, because in the booster there is vacuum on one side and atmospheric pressure on the other, so pumping the brake pedal allows air to enter the vacuum chamber and create a lean condition, since the vacuum side is attached to the intake manifold, when this happens 02 sensors that are good react to the mixture change very fast, indicating good 02 sensors!!

For the low fuel pressure, why was it affecting bank 1 (P0171) vs. bank 2? I'm not familiar with these cars, but I'm guessing that there may be additional pressure loss going from the bank 2 to bank 1 side, again assuming that the fuel line is closer to bank 2? Just a wild guess, but why else was bank 1 looking worse? I actually bought a used 2007 Land Rover LR3, and it has the P0171 code. The mechanic where I bought it said he replaced the MAF sensor, EGR, 4x O2 sensors, and checked connections, etc. with no luck. The check engine light stays off for up to two days after I clear it (repeats) with my iphone carscanner app. I need to go for a smog check tomorrow, so I shall see if I pass with slightly higher fuel trim numbers for bank 1 (compared to bank 2) when I open the throttle @ 3300rpm (bank one STF 7%, LTF 5.5%, 12.5% Total, bank two STF 3.1%, LTF 7%, 10.1% Total). As the mech said, everything else is looking good, so I need to further test to find the culprit. Just for additional info, at 700RPM: bank 1 STF= -2.3% & LTF= 1.6%, bank 2 STF= -2.3% & LTF= 3.1%. The car is driving OK, but I'm guessing it should have more power for a 4.4V8. I'm not seeing the fuel pressure reading in my scanner like I did with my 2018 Chevy Tahoe, but this feels like a small vacuum leak somewhere if you would agree. Thanks, and I apprieciate the help!

PS: I checked my own car which is a 1.8 liter and sure enough the MAF values were the same as your car (in park).

Good Diagnostic. I find the U.S. version of this Toyota usually has a seperate fuel filter ( in addition to the in tank filter on the pump ). The seperate filter is very poor quality and plugs up easily and may be why the pumps fail. Pretty common here. I replace the filter with a better non-toyota part. Of course new pump also....
Note: this version may not have the seperate filter.

Can pressure differences also be due to problems closer to engine
    Like injectors?

My friend I also need your help
I have lpsum S3 engine it always damages fuel pumps
I replaced the fuel pump but not even a kilometre it got damaged but when I checked on the return pipe there was no fuel returning back to the tank
I checked again the fuel filter it was okay 👍
    Nozzles were pumping fuel
I have dismantled the cylinder head for valve linking but found the in let valves were linking seriously. Am not sure whether that's the problem

Nice video Deo. Ara seems like a nice guy but honestly 2 shops couldn't attach a fuel gauge? This is driveability 101!
Did you give him a discount?
