With the release of Game Freak's latest title, Pokemon Sun & Moon, we decided to take a look back at one of their earliest games. Mario and Wario was unique in that, despite being a Japanese exclusive, it was actually presented in English. In our analysis, we showcase this SNES title's gameplay with Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Princess Peach, and consider why it stayed in Japan.

To Lord Lemmy: The only good game in the "Mario Vs. Donkey Kong" series is the Game Boy Advance title, since it was a 2D-style platformer that plays similarly to the Game Boy version of "Donkey Kong".
There might be another reference to this game on mario and Luigi bowsers inside story. When you fight junker, a late game boss, one of his attacks is dropping a bucket on one of the bros' heads. The bro with the bucket then walks back and forth aimlessly while junker throws thwomps to the top of the screen and then they crash down, trying to squish the bro. You avoid the attack by timing your jumps. When you jump you stop moving briefly, allowing you to slightly control your movement.
There is also a reference to this game in Mario and Luigi Bowser's Inside Story. One of the bosses throws a bucket to one of the brothers head as one of its moves.
I remember this, you had to keep jumping to stay in place to avoid it.

Pretty much. If you are a nerd you will go out of your way to get things you actually want from a specific thing. Just because you like anime doesn't mean you like all anime. Just because you like tanks and games doesn't mean you like everything about them.
It's not even just that. Any advertising that forces you to keep to their written script hurts your credibility as a channel. Also, holy shit, I love The Creeper. Not new 52 Oni Creeper though.
I got it for a while and gave away most of the stuff in it because there was rarely anything in there that interested me. So it got the axe. All these box/crate things are like that these days.
We don't follow their script, we write it ourselves but have to of course tell you exactly what the offer is. Loot Crate are a great company for RUclipsrs because they allow us to have that freedom to create content. I understand the distaste towards their content, but that just means it isn't a product for you. The fact that they can give RUclipsrs the opportunity to work on video content with more of their time is a good thing, imo. Even if I wouldn't buy their boxes.
The VG Resource, I understand you there but you also have the opportunity to peddle things that you are truly interested in as well. Amazon Prime is the only thing I've ever shilled for and that's because I use it myself and know that it isn't a bad deal. AdSense money sucks, yeah, but idk once people with millions of subs like Jon and H3H3 get behind it, there's very little chance for anyone else to get a piece of the pie.

I'd definitely buy a remake/sequel of Mario & Wario to play on phones. The game looks fun.
Hopefully we see a Virtual Console release of this game on the Nintendo Switch, considering the tablet has a touchscreen and the Joy-Cons supposedly have IR Pointers.

Both of these are rumors. the touchscreen rumor is almost definitely false as it was not shown off in the switch trailer. The ir pointers are definitely false though, as there is no ir window at the top of the joycons.
True, but it would be a smart move by Nintendo if they included one so they could get games from mobile. (Ex. Nintendo Crossy Road.) They could even have discounts on games like Miitomo and Super Mario Run if you've already bought them on mobile.

Could you guys talk about Gekibo: Gekisha Boy, it was only released in Japan, it was a sidescroller version of Pokémon Snap that never made it to the west, but weirdly enough its gameplay was into another game: Nicktoons Frame Frenzy for the GBA. A Japanese-exclusive game very few people know about gets ripped off by a western game, my mind was blown a few weeks back when I discovered this.

I get that RUclipsrs gotta eat, and some people choose to put ads in their videos. But the way you integrate the ads is just terrible. You're talking about the topic and it's all great and then halfway into the next sentence I realize, "Goddammit, they're trying to sell me something". Like, leave a pause or do something visual before you launch straight into the ad spiel. PLEASE.

the sad thing is, the game would have been a non-issue to sell had there been a ingame option to just play with a gamepad and still market it as a game that compatable and improved with the SNES mouse
Surprised they never made mention of this being a possible reference in Bowser's Inside Story. In the Trash Bot fight, that boss uses an attack that throws a trash can on top of mario or luigis head where they are unable to see. The way they walk around like this also looks nearly identical to this game, too.
You'd think Luigi would be the one that gets the bucket stuck on his head, but that's not the case.
And Mario needs his help to take the bucket off his head. Apparently Luigi is stronger than Mario.

I wasn't expecting that classic Pokemon music to play. That song is just fantastic! The new Pokemon game's OST isn't bad, but won't be able to best the first OST
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story had a subtle reference of this game.
During the Junker boss a Bucket/Garbage can fall on Mario, and only Mario. He then proceeds to flail his arms around like this game.
At least that's how I remember it goin.
This is a really good series and I'm hoping for more Region Lock.
Hey i think that a very obscure and possibly unintentional reference to this game is with one attack of one enemy in Mario and Luigi Bowsers Inside Story in which the boss, Junker, or some other name like that (the trash can guy ok?) has an attack where he puts a bucket on one of the two bros heads and the blindly stumble forward and you have to make them jump in place to stall their movement in order to make them not get hit by a thwomp overhead. It just kinda reflects the method of playing the game where mario moves forward and the player uses outside info to save him while he has a bucket on his head.

the Snes fire emblem titles were probably some of the hardest fire emblem games in the series and the plot was good too
I actually went to a convention today and they had a famicom set up with this game in it. It was a really fun game and I wish it was localized back then.

Not surprising that they'd base one off of something from Game Freak, given the entire site itself was based off of Pokemon.

i actually played that game ages ago.It's pretty damn hard!
This was one of the first Super Famicom games that I bought, it's a great "gateway drug" for anyone thinking about getting into imports. It's cheap (I got a loose copy in immaculate condition for $5), completely in English, and both easy and fun. If you already have an SNES mouse, go for it.

In Warioland on Gameboy there's a minigame where you pull a string and either a bag of coins or the bucket falls on your head. That could also be considered a connection to this game.

Correction: The first Mario vs DK is nothing like Mario & Wario. Mario & Wario is about controlling characters indirectly, i.e. like in Gyromite (NES) and most Mario vs DK games. But the first Mario vs DK game was more like the original Donkey Kong (controlling a character directly).

Ah, this weird gem... I think it was one of the first games I played through RetroAchievements.org, though I never got all the cheevs. Suffice it to say, the Extra stages are BRUTAL, able to knock me down from Max Lives to Game Over in a heartbeat!

They could have fully realased this on the Virtual Console. The pointer function of the Wii remote could have replaced the mouse and they could have gone with touch screen controls for the Wii U/3DS. Hopefully we see a release for the switch.

Believe it or not, I actually played this game a while back via an emulator on my brother's computer. It was fun, challenging and entertaining.

So what mythical creatures can I fight in assasin's creed and dragon age: inquisition? I guess they counted dragons, but still, there's plenty of cool games about mythological creatures. The idea of the crate is pretty cool but they seem scared to actually commit to the themes and just go with whatever title sounds popular.
Probably the worst example is their "Dead" themed box a while ago that was mostly zombie stuff (fair enough), but also included a Deadpool statue because he's popular and has the word "Dead" in his name.
Haseo I looked at their past boxes: they had a "Mecha" box with Borderlands, Deus Ex, Destiny, Lawbreakers(which isn't even out) and bioshock. Not a single mecha game because pretty much all mecha games are either old or unpopular or both. They offer a geek service with products for hyped children marketed at casual adult consumers. It boggles my mind.
Lootcrate is an awful service run by corporate idiots that just care about money. They don't care about themes or anything else, just that you fork over your cash for a box of glorified novelties that you'll regret buying soon enough.
Kid Icarus is really Myrhical, that would've been a great thing to use.
The thing that bothers me about loot crate is that I pretty much only care about Nintendo, Sega, and a select few games for the Xbox and Playstation. So the probability of me getting something I like is extremely thin. I'd never get a subscription service that doesn't tailor to what I like.

Nintendo published a children's chapter book series called Nintendo Heroes, including "Mario and the Incredible Rescue". While the book's world is mostly based off of Super Mario RPG, there is a chapter in which Wario shows up, flying his plane and throwing buckets at Mario, Luigi, and Toad. One even gets stuck on Mario's head for a short period of time.
It's a cool game. I got a repo cart that can be used in a local Super N.E.S.
It's not an all-time classic, but it's good fun in a Lemmingsy kind of way. But yeah. The later levels are BRUTAL. I can't actually beat the game.
ah well I know a bit more about the game shame that fairy character never got brought back up again but I guess the closest thing we got were the pixies (I think that there names) from Mario 3D world
