      how can this be a precursor to the Mario versus donkey Kong series when the Mario versus donkey Kong game at least the first one is based off of the original Donkey Kong arcade from 1981 or more accurately it's based off of the Donkey Kong game boy game from 1994 which that game originally was based off of the 1981 arcade and partially based off of the Donkey Kong Jr arcade plus its own thing altogether? The real precursor to Mario versus Donkey Kong series most definitely is the Donkey Kong game on game boy in 1994 as the first Mario versus Donkey Kong game was quite similar to that while the remaining Mario versus Donkey Kong games were all about those mini Mario's

      And a great precursor too (except for a part of it that goes to show that even M&W isn’t COMPLETELY timeless (at 2:17-2:20). Even though she’s taller than both Mario & Toad, I expect better (than to keep relying on the Mario Bros. saving her when she proved herself to be capable like them) from her just like how I have high expectations for Mario characters in general because of how skilled and therefore likeable they can be)!

    I always thought it was odd how Wario just kinda became his own thing and was never a featured villain in a Mario game beyond Super Mario Land 2. Nintendo really should use him far more than they do as a rival/villain to Mario.

    • @anthonya.jumelles7103
      @anthonya.jumelles7103 4 года назад +5

      Wario stopped being a villain because of how popular he became. He's more of an anti-hero at worst.
      It's the same reason Donkey Kong doesn't appear is most Mario games. He's popular enough to sustain his own franchise.

      I’m a Hyperkin dealer. I don’t mean to take credit for the creation of the product (I was in no way involved in its design or engineering), and I have no way of knowing what was going through their heads, but I sent an email to my sales representative once pointing out there were a lot of games that used it and no other company was offering a replacement mouse. Not too long after that, they announced the Hyper Click. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not, I’m just glad that somebody is making one.

    One of the weirdest things to me is that the trait of Wario dropping buckets on the Mario Bros heads was actually put in a Mario book I got as a kid from one of those school order booklets. The book is called "Nintendo Heroes: Mario and the Incredible Rescue" from 2006. It's in chapter 8. I don't know of anywhere else where they mention or use Wario's trait of dropping buckets on people's heads.

  • @sonicmario64
    @sonicmario64 2 года назад +1

    My first time actually learning about "Mario & Wario" was in the Pokemon games for the original Game Boy. In Saffron City, when you're in the home of Copycat, you can find a SNES in her room, which has a game of Mario with a bucket on his head, and there's even a trophy of the bucket that you can collect in "Super Smash Bros. Melee" as well.

  • @TBustah
    @TBustah 4 года назад +16

    The game never made it outside of Japan, but a reference to it did: this is the game featuring Mario with a bucket on his head that you find in Copycat’s house in Gen I. I guess it beat making a nod to “Mendel Palace”? XD

      TBustah sorry about that. I’ve never heard of them being referenced as gen 1 before (despite being a huge fan of retro gaming). Technically gen 1 could mean the first generation of any subject. I have to say, Wario's gotten quite a bit more ambitious over his gaming career. To think this treasure-stealing, game company-starting, anti-hero adventurer started out by simply squatting in Mario's (never-used) castle in Super Mario Land 2 and by dropping buckets on people's heads in this game... lol. What "dastardly" act was he doing in Wario's Woods to spur Toad into action in _that_ early game? Kicking flowers? Some light littering? Trying to hurt the forest animals' feelings by hurling insults at them? Man, I am happy he found something better to do with his time eventually XD

    I really think it boiled down to using a mouse for the game that made them decide to shelve the localization of this one. I'd say the climbing difficulty, but there have been far more difficult games that have seen release in the states that appeal to younger audiences. It's honestly not a favorite of mine, but I'm into ANYTHING Wario related. It's such a shame that out of all the characters, the Wario Bros barely get any merchandising love.

    I remember seeing this is a store flyer regarding upcoming games. There wasn't any screenshot, just some placeholder boxart so I had no idea how the game played. I also didn't know until I got on the internet in the late 90s what happened to it. I wasn't even sure that it didn't get released here since it was harder to track down release dates in those days and other titles had appeared in stores briefly only to disappear.
    I don't know who came up with the bucket idea. You would think a simpler idea that can't be immediately torn to pieces would be that Wario blinded Mario with something that would take some time to wear off or that he needed to get the cure from Wario. Maybe NOA rejected it simply by saying "why wouldn't he just take the bucket off his head?"

    I really wish they made a Wario Land and Kid Icarus on the SNES.

    The game is hinted in Pokémon Gen I games, in the Copycat's House console reads "A Game with MARIO with a bucket on his head..."
    And, no, Luigi is not Lost. He's just waiting for his friend.

    Reminds me of yoshis safari. Very underrated game so fun. Both of these seem to be tbh. But I was talking about safari lol

    Dang. I didn't know the SNES mouse was able to be used outside of Mairo Paint. Makes me think I missed out.

    The funny thing is, the bootleg cartrige version have controller support way back in the 2000.

    Its manga advertising the game foreshadowed the creation of Waluigi. Wario gets tired of being gangbanged by Mario and Luigi, so he tries to come out with a design of a sidekick to counter Luigi: Low and behold a WarLuigi shows up with a pretzel mustache. Camelot, after splitting with SEGA, would use that strip manga to show it to Miyamoto himself during the development Mario Tennis (N64).

      Wuluigi is lazy made gimmick character. Memes are the only reason why the internet like him.

    No mention of the controller patch? I assume it doesn't work all that well compared to the mouse?

    I guess that they didn't release it outside Japan because it was a Mario game where you didn't play as Mario, the genre being puzzle and requiring a mouse, that most Mario fans would have wanted something action oriented.

    One thing they screwed up is there is no way to save. There are more stages to play after beating the 8 worlds and there’s no way to continue.

    This game is great. It really benefits being played on a PC with a modern mouse.

    Who knew Mario's greatest weakness was getting a bucket stuck on his head. Wonder why Bowser never tried that.

    If you're stumbling blind across the wilderness with a bucket stuck to your head and surviving solely because of a fairy's good timing, well maybe you're not the best person to judge who's "lost" in this situation.
