Cool video and I love this series. But I have a few corrects. 1) there was actually 4 games in the GB/GBC series. GB Wars, GB Wars Turbo for original GB, GB Wars 2 is GBC enhanced and GB Wars 3 was GBC only. 2) GB Wars 3 works with the GB mobile phone adapter for "online" play. 3) Super Famicom Wars was never released physical but was available for the Nintendo Power distribution system. 4) Super Famicom BS Ban (Satellaview version) was actually released later and is just a demo version. Which was 4 different maps transmitted at different times.

Really great video! I always enjoy seeing Japan exclusive games on your channel, gives me new insight into games I haven't heard of before. Love your content!
Glad Dr Lava linked me to this video. Advance Wars and Fire Emblem are my two favorite series, and there were a bunch I never played because they were only released in Japan.

"das volk, mein schild" This is mein fuhrer's favorite phrase, according to this game's original instruction, meaning "Volks shall be a shield of the regime". In fact, he deploys thousands of infantry.

Thanks for making a really concise and well-done overview of the game! I'll have to download and archive this video so I can show my friends at the retirement home what I did with my life, when that time comes. :D
I just started playing this game and I find it so so sooo much more charming than the advance series, and the music is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better also. Thanks for this video!
This game is amazing. The whole wars series is great, to be honest. Since Intelligent Systems aren't making a new installment, indie devs made Wargroove, and it's a game you should definitely play if you're a fan of the Wars series.
Even the Black Sheep Batallion wars was awesome, it's after all the spin-off that introduced me to the wars series and has my favourite Characters from said series in it, in fact, if they use the entirety of Battalion wars cast for an sequel with more tactical options and better game design, i think we would get a masterpiece for Nintendo Intelligence system standards.
I like the notion of this old game getting some spotlight. Not a huge fan of the series, but its obvious the patching team put their heart and soul into it. Annnnnnndddd our Consoledrunk echoes that with this stellar review.
We need a new Wars game. I remember playing pass-it-along AW2 with fog of war during class in high school (which was great since I didn't have my own copy but could still play). Days of Ruin felt much darker with less comic relief and kind of left me wanting more (especially with making and sharing online maps).
Just replying to this because it’s so awesome that we got a remake of the first and second advanced wars and hopefully this will generate enough buzz for Nintendo to make a new Wars game
@@Hipno702 Agreed. I'm not crazy about the flash animation style of the Reboot Camp remake, but I'm glad it is coming. I just wish there was an option to limit animated segments to unit introductions, misses, critical hits, and key unit deaths (glad the fast forward option exists, but it's still too much to watch every time).
Great review. I feel the same way about going backward after playing later games in the series. Having played Super Metroid first, I have the same problem going back to Metroid.
yeah, I have the same issue with the original Metroid: I just don't find it to be very playable, having been spoiled by all the huge improvements introduced by Super Metroid. But for other series I have no problem going back, for example I played Final Fantasy 3 (NES) after Final Fantasy 6 (SNES) and I enjoyed a lot, as well as I enjoyed playing Famicom Mother after SNES Earthbound
This is great! I had no idea this series existed on the SNES. Would be curious what you would think the Conflict series for NES and SNES. Both share alot with the Wars series but have hexagon, grid based, map system. Really fun though.
Hey Drunk, thanks for this kinda forgotten gem, I never noticed how much it the GBA version borrowed from this. Now I wonder whether you would review that version, or WarGroove or Tiny Metal as a SteamDrunk. Keep it up 👍
I don't remember about them showing up in Days of Ruin, but Deer Harbor and Royal Channel are in Advance Wars 2 Black Hole Rising for sure. If I'm not mistaken, I think one of them is also an unlockable in the first GBA game.
i think this is the best game in the series because have a lot of different units and the units make sense, like the apc have a machine gun, the only drawback is some of the maps.
It's crazy to me that this game came out when Bill Clinton was still president. I didn't find out about the GBA games until about 2002. These games have crazy depth. So this game has always confused me, so maybe someone can help clear it up. DID this game get an actual cartridge release in Japan on SFC? The closest I have ever found was it being released as one of the Nintendo Power kiosk download stations that you need to install on one of the Nintendo Power cartridges, I have never seen an actual listing of the game sold by itself as a normal SFC cart. Same goes for the final Fire Emblem for the SFC which I have only ever seen pre-installed on brand new Nintendo Power cartridges as a flash memory stored game instead of EPROM I assume.
When is your state going to legalize? I feel SNEShigh would be a good addition to the channel. We could get deep introspection on topics like "what IS Super Famicom Wars?"
