    Some interesting bits (1) The Gundams here actually their respective pilots wearing powered armors based on their respective mobile suits, for example. Gundam F91=Seabook, V2 Gundam=Uso, God/Burning Gundam=Domon.
    (2) The rather thin plot of these games ended up being very important in Super Robot Wars OG The Moon Dwellers.

    Just one kick note: Kouta Azuma becomes Fighter Roar when the events of SRW OG Gaiden take place. The Fighter Roar that appears in the Great Battle games is a ciborg created by Dark Brain who rebelled against him and while pursuimg Dark Brain, he crossed over to the SRW OG universe, losing his physical body in the process. That's when he merges with Kouta, allowing him to turn into Fighter Roar

    Great timing...I literally just started playing _Great battle IV_ two days ago, and I'm thoroughly enjoying myself. Years ago I came across a GBC game called _Super Robot Pinball_ ,which is a spin-off of this series that even features Evangelion, Mazinger Z, and Getter Robo to name a few. Crazy franchise mash-ups that don't sacrifice quality game play for the novelty!

    • @SmaMan
      @SmaMan 2 года назад +2

      Not so much a spinoff of *this* series, but it is a spinoff of Super Robot Wars, which is another great turn-based strategy series you should definitely check out if you're a fan.

    Very nice overview. A friend recommended the first one, so I've played it. I recall that you've mentioned some of these in your import videos and I've since briefly sampled each one. It's a cool series with good production values. The fourth made an impressive first impression. The first mech fight was a jarring surprise, though. This series looks like it's my style as I tend to like less popular, obscure games on the SNES over the popular stuff. This video gave me a better idea of what to expect when I get a chance to play them properly. Great work on this video. I like your style.

    It's also worth noticing that Great Battle is canon within the Super Robot Wars: Original Generation series, since Fighter Roar (now known as Warrior Roar) goes to the OG world, finds a different Kouta Azuma, becomes his spiritual guide and helps him fight Dark Brain's forces in the brand spanking new Compatible Kaiser.
    So technically, SRW: OG Gaiden is a sequel to the series.

    The Great Battle IV is awesome! Picked it up at a favorite local retro shop, mainly because it had a Gundam on it. I've been hoping to play it in one of our future videos (perhaps after Halloween time passes, since we gotta show love to spooky movies and games first).

    • @NostalgicNumbnuts
      @NostalgicNumbnuts 3 года назад

      @@fidelsolis6070 Actually, you can use an American SNES, but you'd have to break the two small, plastic tabs inside the place where you insert cartridges (they're just behind and to the sides of the pin connector). I didn't want to break anything on my SNES, so the alternative I use is a SNES Game Genie with those two tabs broken off (or ground down). I feel better doing that on a cheaper piece of hardware like the Game Genie. The SNES's region locking is all physical, nothing related to any chips or electronics (same with the N64).

    This is what happens in Japan, when a major toy company holds all your toy production rights (and in fact owns 100% at least one of these franchises) they go to the others and say ask 'Hey we need money, can we use your characters and split the profits'? And the other companies say "Sure go ahead". You will NEVER see this kind of thing going on anywhere else in the world. Its nice to see this level of camaraderie between companies, though again it helps if the same toy company owns the rights to produce toys of all of these franchises. Only in Japan. :)

    There's a game that I forgot the title. Can you help me find it. I played it one time at a friend's house. It's Super Nintendo it's a turn based RPG. I believe there was seven Heroes could have been more. You pick one you play his story line or hers or it's. Then you picked another one's and play their story line until you did all of them's storyline. And then you play as a group and finish the game. That is what my friend told me about it it was over 250 hours worth of gameplay he said. He would not let me borrow it but I did get to play it one day. I remember a furball type character a little alien animal. A robot and a guy who had a sword I believe and his name was hero. I played him I believe it opened with him driving a car and being in an accident and then you fought the bad guys who caused it. Sorry that's all I can remember

    • @dukeofhmph6348
      @dukeofhmph6348 3 года назад

      Most of your description bears a strong resemblance to The 7th Saga - it's for the SNES; it's a turn based RPG; there's seven playable characters to choose from, including an alien and a robot.
      It's been quite a long time since I last played it, but I don't remember having to do each of their storylines so they unite as a group to finish the game - you might be confusing it with Octopath Traveller there. They also don't have completely separate storylines either, as the main objective remains the same (instead, it mainly affects who you fight and where). You are also able to recruit some of the others (I think you can only recruit one?) later in the game to join your party.
      I don't remember anything about a car accident either, so you're probably confusing it with something else entirely there.
      I hope that helps!

      A lot of games were not released in certain regions simply because they did not think the games would sell well enough to justify the localization costs, marketing budget and all that stuff. In the case of these, I guess a big reason might be the characters. They were simply not very well known in the west. They were not completely unknown, but they were not so famous that it would help move a lot of units.

    I will never buy another SNES game because it's not 1995 and I'm not fucking nuts, but I appreciate your thorough and balanced reviews. If you can afford to purchase old SNES games - don't! Give the money to charity and emulate them instead.

      I paid $24 3 months ago for Great Battle IV. They're not overly expensive.
