  • ►If there's only one thing you do to your car to keep up with maintenance yourself, make it the oil change. Changing the oil in your Mk7 Golf R is the best way to ensure it will run happily and healthy for over 100,000 miles. As you drive around, the oil within your engine wears and breaks down, losing some of its lubricating and protection abilities. Replacing it with a fresh filter and oil will revive that lubricity and protection for another 5000 miles of spirited driving.
    Follow along with Mike Hidalgo, FCP Euro's Professional DIY'er, as he walks you through an engine oil change on a Mk7 VW Golf R.

    Hoping to find a video of people using a vacuum because you can access the oil filter from the top side. Would be nice with how low to the ground the GTI sits.

    It was very considerate of the Volkswagen design engineers to make an oil filler neck that doesn’t take a standard funnel. Well done guys.
    Another solution to a non-existent problem

    Just did my first oil change on this VW... helpful tip. If you dont have the oil plug tool use a large coin like a quarter to unscrew

    Thanks for that, I hate having to spend $600 (Australian) every year on an oil change by the dealer. The only thing is the oil change doesn't reset using that method, it says it has reset, but when you turn the car off or on the oil service indicator still comes on.

    The plastic oil shaft in the oil filter housing, if that isn't connected and has fallen down, could it block oil pressure through the engine?

    Do you have a coolant flush and refill video? Also, I am having oil drip every so often on my floor. Im not sure where it could be coming from? What are the possibles places ? I have a MK7 2015 GTI

    Hello, i have some plastic ramps i can drive onto. It is clearly better to drive onto ramps rather than backing onto them since oil pan is in the front and the oil plug is at the end of oil pan towards center of car correct?

    Hi, good video. I see that you are using 5w40 while most people use 5w30. Is there any advantage or disadvantage with either?

    • @BirdiesGoCherp
      @BirdiesGoCherp 11 месяцев назад +2

      It's because they have lower fuel quality in the US as compared to Europe. So the VW approved spec in the US was VW 502. Which is mainly 5w-40

    I have a 2019 tiguan (which i just changed the breaks on thanks to your other video) and my folks have a 2017 golf wagon. Now that I can apparently change breaks I'm now "the car guy" in the family which means i get to figure out oil changes. yay.
    My tiguan calls for 0w-20 oil and the golf manual calls for 5w-40. IDEALLY I'd like to use the same oil in both so I can get a bulk quantity. I get that the oil types are close but is there one that's better for use across both platforms? It seems like as of 2019 the golf has changed specs to the same 0w-20 as the tiguan... can I just jump on that and call it a day?
    Thanks!

    • @Chappzl

      0W-30? Are you sure?

    • @kevildub
      @kevildub Год назад

      Yes I think VW use 0-30. The product is called long life III and is 504 VW approved.

    • @zacjohnson4411
      @zacjohnson4411 9 месяцев назад

      In Europe 0w 30 is good. But for our gas and weather 5w 40 is better use if you want your engine to last. Remember, they get paid when something goes wrong lol
