Lebanon is a very beautiful country, very affordable to visit, and crammed full of historic sites from the dawn of man to present day. It is one of the most open and modern-thinking countries in the Middle East.
Hezbollah is nominally anti-Western, but in reality almost 100% of its focus and power is the border region with Israel, so it’s also normally rather safe to visit, even for Americans. It would be safer for a woman to visit Lebanon than say… Saudi Arabia or Dubai.

I used to work with a guy that had previously worked in Saudi Arabia for ARAMCO.
He had lots of stories about the vacations he took in Beirut and outlying areas of Lebanon, if the PLO hadn't messed the country up, he had intended on retiring in Lebanon because of how beautiful it was and he truly loved the Lebanese people he came into contact with.
If you're being serious about vacationing there, keep your "spidy senses" on high alert and enjoy as much of the country as you can safely!

In Lebanon, I just had my fourth round of chemo, and the neuropathy has been robbing me of what little time I had to pick. I got my guitar out today for the first time in weeks, and after a few mins I was able to nail every note of that intro like I'd never taken a break. I really needed that. Staying in the southeastern mountains with the Druze, among the olive orchards, is safe like being in Maine. Beirut is like New York, safe and unsafe (though the power infrastructure is terrible). The south though, in the hills...is a war zone. Unexploded munitions laid by Hezbollah, mortar rounds from old conflicts, dangerous engagements near the border. More dangerous than anywhere in the US when it comes to loss of life. Sure, you can get robbed in Gary, Indiana or parts of Detroit, but if you give your valuables it's not as likely to die.
