At the :20 mark, in my estimation, having seen and heard countless hair-raising brass chord hits...this may very well be the biggest, loudest, fullest, most in-tune and precise single brass MOMENT in all of drum corps, and perhaps in all of brass performance history, bar none. I remember hearing this live in San Antonio and bursting into tears. And...drum roll...none of them were amplified with mics for that hit - pure brass won the battle of clean powerful sound that day.
Yet this-still. Got. Second. I’m perfectly aware the Blue Devils were simply cleaner that night but god damn it still pisses me off. Sometimes cleaner doesn’t mean better
I marched this show (trumpet). It was the hardest thing I've ever done. But for people saying they're not good enough to try out... Go for it! I had never done corps, sent in a video, and got offered a spot at my first camp (December), and I was a History Major in college. It can happen! Just be dedicated and practice!
This might be the most encouraging comment that I have ever read! One of my dreams is to march in DCI, with Crown being one of my dream corps. I also am not going to be a music major in college, but I love playing music, so your comment is really motivating for me. Thanks for giving an aspiring musician some much-needed confidence!! :D
Chris Montoya do a season of open class, I’ve seen an entire section of euphs who had never played a brass instrument in their life transform over the course of the summer into solid players! It’s at least a stepping stone in the right direction
2013 had WAY TOO MUCH recorded nonsense. It was like, "turn that damn radio off!" . . . 2012 was a "meat and potatoes show." The way a show is supposed to be designed AND performed, WITH BALLS !
I would have happily tolerated the vocals in the rest of the show if they had pulled the narration during the ballad. A ballad that should go down in history as one of the greats ruined by a treacly poem.
I really like the homage paid to 1993 Star of Indiana starting at :11. That high sticked roll, the obtuse triangle, and the strikingly similar uniforms. #knowyourroots
Well the Crown brass caption head was the Star of Indiana 93 Drum Major, not surprising that in several crown shows he brought some star of Indiana moments back 😊
@@turnr3326 Crown historically does not have good percussion. 2013's drumline is probably the worst drumline to win a championship since 2000. However, this year and last year their drumline has been killing it and are on 🔥🔥🔥
This corps seems to be run by true DCI fans. They're doing everything that most of the other corps seem to have forgotten. The sets are fresh and original. The arrangements are clean and dynamic. I've been following CC for a while and every year, its more impressive. They need the top spot. No, they deserve the top spot.
+Gentry Walker +recentral48 Actually we just have very specific stagger breathing, we were in PHENOMENAL shape after rehearsing the opener all year, and we get really really good at budgeting our air so as to not take in too much and build up stale air, but take in enough to get to our next breathing point.
Cory Gates It's very much a fitness thing, I was just suggesting that corps do various breathing exercises to gain a level of control over your air supply under duress. We do, anyway.
Definitely, without a doubt, my favorite Crown show. Its amazing! And to all who marched this show, great job. To me, the marching looks fairly complex and to be playing so beautifully on top of that, AMAZING!
It is so amazing to see how Crown has develped over the years. My first year in the activity was 1994 and I remember them being an up and coming corps in their first year out of Div II. Then they shocked the world in 1995 and made finals. Then they hung out in the 10-12 range until they missed finals in 2002. It's like that was the kick in the ass the organization needed to jump to the next level. 2003-2012 has been one awesome show after another. They are an organization to be admired.
I still believe that is one of the best reactions from a crowd ever! PR 08, Scouts 88, BD 97, Cavies 06, and SCV 89 along with this one have the most chilling closing reactions from a crowd I've heard
0:05, I'm in Hong Kong right now and every time each crosswalk says 'go', it plays something that sounds eerily like this, thus every time I cross the street I hear this part of the show and crossing the street becomes exponentially more awesome.
This comment is late as hell, but i love watching the bass drums' plumes right before the 0:20 hit. One of em is going so hardcore it looks like hes about to slam his head into the drum
Holy 1:06 😍 Anyone who’s ever marched Drum Corps remembers exactly what it feels like on the field when the crowd leaps to their feet as you’re giving everything you have left to that last note. Some things you’ll just never forget.
This was one of the first DCI shows I ever saw in high school. While this performance isn't as rock solid as some of Crown's later work, the closer of their 2012 show is probably my favorite DCI moment ever. That opinion is more out of personal experience than technical judgement. It inspired me to make a difference in my high school band. Every now and then I come back to this video and it gives me chills. Every time.
Can we just talk about the poor saber on the furthest right field after the big hit? Honey, I see you sprinting, and I'm weeping for you three years later.
Can you imagine being another corps or just a bystander somewhere outside and just hearing the crowd roaring after that last chord? Like this is one of the few times I have seen a crowd get THAT hyped over a corps.
Well it definitely was one of those moments. I marched with the vanguard cadets this summer so i never watched your show live. I did watch a run through from late june but when i saw it live my friends and I loved it but when you got to that chord we just went insane
As a mellophone player, I know how difficult it is to play high and not sound strained, and at 0:22 they sound anything but. So rich, so dark, their sound just blows my mind.
Oh man! I just love how smoothly they get into the hit @ :22 that's so awesome! I'm a hardcore Phantom Regiment Phan, but Crown truly amazes me to the point that i'm rethinking my loyalty. But as for now. SUTA! :P
I think Crown should offer educational camps :) I know people say to go to an audition, but you don't really get as much educational things at an audition. I am a brass player and oh how I would love to go to an educational camp ran by their brass staff.
The same for the cadets in 1990s, and cavaliers to some extent in the 2000's. They put out some of the most memorable shows at the time, but people will hate them as long as they keep winning because people want to see variety.
As a huge fan of both corps i have a place to say this. Sorry, Blue Devils, although your show was great, the title should have been Crown's. Best show I have seen in years.
At the :20 mark, in my estimation, having seen and heard countless hair-raising brass chord hits...this may very well be the biggest, loudest, fullest, most in-tune and precise single brass MOMENT in all of drum corps, and perhaps in all of brass performance history, bar none. Jerry Goodnight I can't do it because Drum Corps doesn't like black instruments.
(Thats a joke. I do play clarinet though, so, RIP...)
alot of DCI brass players are converted woodwinds!
Chris Montoya do a season of open class, I’ve seen an entire section of euphs who had never played a brass instrument in their life transform over the course of the summer into solid players! It’s at least a stepping stone in the right direction
Your rendition of Fanfare was the finest I have ever heard. Big props to you and the rest of that corps.
Whenever I'm explaining to someone what drum corps is, I show them this video.
as corps members have been trying to do for generations. . . . . "who's that band out there on the field?"
Same oh my goodness! Haha
Gentry Walker
I always get the question, "what school are they from?" Lol
this and blue knights 2015 closer
I show them Carolina crown 2017 tuning sequence
A performance of the ages. Amazing sound and balance second to none. So lucky for the people to have seen this live. Sorry 2013, 2012 takes the cake,
2013 had WAY TOO MUCH recorded nonsense. It was like, "turn that damn radio off!" . . . 2012 was a "meat and potatoes show." The way a show is supposed to be designed AND performed, WITH BALLS !

Actually their 2015 show was the best in my opinion. 2012 is a close second place.
2013, in terms of brass, was their best year.
A PERFECT 20 in Brass.
IKR!!!
what I would do just to hear that hit at 0:20 in person
Heard it in ATL changed my fuckin life
@@GameConnoisseur69 I was at ATL too haha... drove all the way down from Nashville XD
I did see this in person and I remember specifically that one horn hit during the opener - I could literally feel the sound pushing me back lol
ikr
Literally!!!!
Glad Crown put three great shows on the field in 12-14 and got a well deserved win
Neon Wolf 12, 13, and 14. It’s 3
And also 15 and 16
Kuwayway Logic 15 was the best they have ever done. Watch that Adagio section and you get chills.
This decade was theirs, like the cavaliers of the 2000's.
2012-18 were all bangers for brass
I really like the homage paid to 1993 Star of Indiana starting at :11. That high sticked roll, the obtuse triangle, and the strikingly similar uniforms. #knowyourroots
And now in 2016 having musical elements of '93
77Bartok77 yeet
Well the Crown brass caption head was the Star of Indiana 93 Drum Major, not surprising that in several crown shows he brought some star of Indiana moments back 😊
those cube sets look like they're in legit 3D omg
The real winners of 2012, this show is was on another level from BD in terms of everything
Percussion

@@turnr3326 Henceforth, crown technically did NOT win because they're scores weren't the highest.
Crown got 3rd in colorguard and 2nd GE
They got 6th in percussion
0:20 must be one of the greatest impact moments in DCI history
in comparison, i do have to say that this impact was more balanced and was overall more powerful, but 2008 was fantastic too!
Followed by 0:37-0:45 (approx.) being one of the coolest visuals in DCI history.
Followed by 1:02 being the second greatest impact moment
This is my favorite Crown Brass.

That fucking resolution at 0:19 is the most beautiful sound I have ever heard
I watched this show live, then and now it brings tears to my eyes. Absolutely gorgeous.
How can you run all over the field and still have air for the last hit... Omg
By forcing yourself to take extremely huge breaths throughout the season instead of small, quick breaths.
+Gentry Walker +recentral48 Actually we just have very specific stagger breathing, we were in PHENOMENAL shape after rehearsing the opener all year, and we get really really good at budgeting our air so as to not take in too much and build up stale air, but take in enough to get to our next breathing point.

0:19 is my favorite DCI moment...ever
It makes me depressed to know I'll never be as exhilarated as everyone playing on that field in that moment.
I’d probably be shaking so hard that I wouldn’t be able to hold a horn up.
Hey I know you!
Mine is 0:11
@@andrewhxrris Andrew, what is it like being a part of the Avon high school marching band?

LMAO.

I believe 2003 was when Harloff joined staff. Coincidence maybe?🤔
This sounds like a MIDI file because it's SO clean and clear. What a phenomenal ensemble.
0:22 the best mellophone part I have ever heard. I got goosebumps when I heard it the first time.
That high concert F is chef’s kiss
0:31 That drill move is pure genius. I can't even begin to comprehend how difficult that must have been to march.

Scouts '97 had standing ovations going long before the show ended.
Derek Gross iamshartsmell don't forget bluecoats '14!! that was crazy!
Now scv 18
my band director assistant was the drum major for this show holding up the cube at the end. cool stuff

Just listen to the sound in the last hit at 1:11 and appreciate it ... that's so pure
Crown have really come a long way since Crown of the 90's! Bravo!!!!
This show stole my heart! I have been listening to this since January. So thankful I live 45 minutes away from Fort Mill. :)
I can't get over how good the part at 0:19 sounds. It sends shivers down my spine.
Can we just talk about the poor saber on the furthest right field after the big hit? Honey, I see you sprinting, and I'm weeping for you three years later.
They were doing the 1993 Star of Indiana show so accurately that they DID lose. Go watch it.
Lmao
1:06 to the end is the loudest and best B-flat major has ever and will ever sound.
That has to be one of the most well designed drill sets in drum corps. You know which one I'm talking about, and that's why it's so great.
2012 honestly was a hell of a year for dci
Favorite build up 00:10 favorite chord 00:18 Favorite drill move 00:31!!!!! Best closer ever!!!!
Best show of 2012 by far! I love them!
the impact is just incredible
My favorite CC show. I was there watching live and was surprised when they didn't take the title.
I just can't stop watching this.
Can you imagine being another corps or just a bystander somewhere outside and just hearing the crowd roaring after that last chord? Like this is one of the few times I have seen a crowd get THAT hyped over a corps.
I keep saying the same thing! I'm not gonna lie, I was fighting back tears this entire show!
Hard to imagine my pit director was in this show as a marimba, I was 8 at the time of his lifes peak. I look up to him ❤
I genuinely cry every time on this closer.
My god that sound at 00:18 is amazing. Complete eargasm
thanks DCIFanNetwork!! you guys showed my most favorite bit from each corps' show. bought the DVD!
They did the best show I have seen in 30 years by far.... They were awesome and Quincy Massachusetts.... They were the best by far and should have won
0:19 probably the best sound i have ever heard,
P.S Drum Core is so much nicer when BD isn't around.
I know everyone is raving about the brass, but can we take some time to appreciate the unison bass drum rolls at 0:12?
I literally want to cry when I watch this.
yay im soo glad you used this clip!!!!!!
The corps that changed drum corps forever and made history. Awesome show!
That brass is AMAZING! still gives me chills

Best show of 2012.
this is the best show ever
Carolina Crown -the 3D corps
CMFC ! ! WILL ALWAYS BE 2012 DCI CHAMPS IN MY HEART !
Drum corp rules I can't even begin to start on how much I love it.
My face just melted.
This was the first show they did their classic mello lick “doodily doo doodily doodily doodily doo.”
Damnit I love that hornline!!! They are just out of this world!
Unable to comprehend how this corps didn't walk away with gold that night.
Best. Show. Of. 2012.
this was like the most amazing part in their show
Yup, you can file this under "H" For "How to Win an Ott Award"
This is perfection!
