Koji Mori (Spartacus) is one of my band directors and its so cool seeing how much his conducting technique has changed since 08. He has the most precise conducting I've ever seen. Its amazing when he fills in during marching band rehearsals.
sam signorelli well he knew there'd be a camera right there, so yeah he'd close his eyes. it would ruin the effect if everyone at home watching or anyone who saw the video saw his eyes open.
That horn angle! That volume! That beautiful, graceful, trot like jazz run! Their precision to march without direction even for that short while! The theatrics!! Wow!! Wow!!! INCREDIBLE!!!
Sorry to burst your bubble eight years later, but there was an assistant conductor at the left-side 30 yard line. Still is an incredible feat, because you can imagine he was hard to spot for that formation.
That night was electric; so was the crowd. I have watched DCI for 35 years. Probably one of the most memorable final's nights. And when second place was announced, if the stadium walls could collapse, they would have.
@@sammysplatoon8216 lmao and imagine the doping scandals just like any other sport😅😅 Entire Russian team blasting winstrol, clenbuterol and investing billions in proprietary O2 max enhancers just to have the best 200-man Corps. I marched back in the day. I have taught corps and bands and worked in their offices. I have been to countless shows. When they killed the drum major, it was the damnedest thing I ever saw.
This was the first Drum Corps show I ever saw. I watched on the very first day of marching band camp my freshman year. Our band watched in awe as our visual tech, who aged out of the Blue Devils in 2008, showed us this video on a projector in our band room. Two years later and this video still puts a smile on my face. Thank you DCI!
@@Ryan-dz7mg Because Blue Devils got second but mainly cause he wouldn't want Phantom to do great cause than they would get first, but to bad cause they did. And it was a joke
I moved to this school last year, and they don't do field shows here. Just compete in parade blocks (I hate it). So no one knows what a field show even is. As a senior, I felt it was my job to educate. So about 5 minutes ago, a freshman asked me what all this talk was about me auditioning for Phantom Regiment. I tried explaining, then decided it'd be better if I just showed him this. He is in awe, and it's the best feeling ever to see that reaction. Let's win it this year, PR :)
And 0:48, come on. That's such a POWERFUL image, it even hits harder than the Jolly Roger, Picture Day drum major from Madison Scouts at the '97 Finals
I love corps. I must say that this is the most fantastic night that I have ever witnessed. It was epic. Without question the most wonderful musical experience of my life.
Watching this was the most exciting moment I ever had at a DCI final since I started competing and attending them from 1973. the atmosphere was electric, they Corps held my attention from the first note to the last, and the entertainment factor was off the hook. I was into the story, felt all the highs and lows, and was blown away by the ensemble performances. With few exceptions, I haven't had the same feeling at a DCI final since...
best show since 1995 Madison Scouts. Would have loved to have been in the stands for this one. The roar of the crowd is all the scores you needed to hear that night. Nobody stood a chance.
Let's see him actually go hold a baritone up. For the entire damn show. I'm a "weak" asian guy and I can do it, he's this "self-proclaimed jock" and he should be able to do it for at least double the time I can hold it up. In correct posture. While marching around. And playing his horn.
This is the best show DCI ever did. It was lightning in a bottle (and so was Constantly Risking Absurdity, tbf,) but it really came down to the things that PR and BD couldn't control. Namely the fact that Indiana's stadium looked like a goddamn coliseum.
Way back before the electric age of microphones on everything and microphones on the field to get it louder. Which fucks up every thing. Plus now you have 30+ people in the auxiliary.
the biggest difference in my memory was how articulate BUT VERY loud they were over the other corps they commanded the win as the theme represented thank you!
Hey Viper, I'm genuinely curious; if you're so opposed to marching band, drum corps, and this show, insisting that this entire activity has gone "downhill," why are you watching it? Furthermore, why do you feel the need to comment on it? What do you plan to accomplish by harping? I honestly cannot fathom the logic you used in making these decisions.
@1:05 That conductor's stance, character, and aura a masterful comparison to the overthrowning of a tyrant and the surrealism of Mickey Mouse's conducting Fantasia.
