Everybody here talking about the trumpets but you gotta respect those 2 soloists for how beautiful they played
That's the beauty of the baritone
I am a trumpet and yes my ego is big, but those baritone solos deserve every ounce of respect and more they get for those solos. Bring me to tears and take my breath away every time.
Yes
Orly Borly and those are some ridiculous tough solos by dci standards
Those high notes hurt me but I can play some of em
1:39 that snap is the best sound to ever exist.
agreed
5TE 6!
AGREED
That moment when they turn around and all of a sudden their horns are all up pointed right at you and you know what's coming next.... I just get chills.
The drummers bump feeling it right before the crash got me too.
The two highest notes ever played in dci have been by that trumpet soloist
get a cheater lead mouthpiece and watch the magic happen (you still have to be really good though
Two highest and most devoid of any tone
Do you know his name
Gingah Ninja he was a senior in high school when he hit that
Yoshi Michael Englar Jr. he has a Yt

like 25 times in the last week
The amount of times I've watched this is unhealthy
@@walshnormandy1605 I'm sorry but this made me burst out into laughter however I don't blame you... it's amazing
If this video was a person they’d need to file a restraining order because of the amount of times I’ve watched this
Haha yup, I’m back again
play this at my funeral or i ain’t dying
Me tho-
You said that on the other video too I agree
EmberWolf333 Don’t play it
Yup
I’m with you brother
I just saw the full version of this performance today for the first time and cried after the baritone duet. I am currently deployed and am experiencing the worst in humanity every other day. This reminded me of what the best of human creation can be. Thank you to those who played and danced in this performance. You have brought music back into my soul which has been lost for over 5 years now.
🙏🏼
@@brned1692 pretty good since this post actually! I watch this performance from time to time and it still brings me happiness/chills like it did months ago. Thank you very much for asking

@@shadowkille8r99 isn’t it bc of finance issue on why they can’t do a 2023 tour?
@@gardenolive318 yeah but the financial issue is related to their awful DCI placements which is because partially of bent leg

1:40 I would have cried at this part if I was there live. This is insanely amazing
Me too.
It was so epic!!!
that is one of THE MOST EFFING AMAZING HORN SNAPS everrrrr
I was lucky enough to be there and I pretty much did cry.
FRRRRR
I like that part where they played those instruments and made those sounds. Ugh. So good.
much profundity. so vocabulary. 😋
Every dci show in a nutshell (to brass players):
Holy shit. That part in the baritone solo where everything goes quiet and all you can hear is the soloist gets me every time. Same with the brass hit. This ballad is literally the best I’ve ever heard because of those baritones. Huge props to them!
i was thinking mello would be better for the solo but after listening to it fully baritone definitely carries
This might go down as the greatest ballad ever performed

Saw it at NightBEAT. The best 2 and a half minutes of drum corps in the last decade for sure.

@@fl4sh762 Haha that’s actually hilarious and awesome that you recognized me, it’s a shame the servers have been dead the past few weeks-months, its such a good mod i wish more people utilized it.
I feel like people only like this show for the ballad & the mellophone sustain in the closer. Otherwise, you never hear much else about the rest. There’s so many under-appreciated aspects of Babylon: the small ensemble/ duets in Metropolis 1927, the Club Sound dance, the backflip chap at the end of the opener. There’s so many gems that are simply overlooked.
Kaamel Mathis 1000% agree
Its really just the same group of bandos that SWEAR the pitch bend from Bloo '14 is the best closer ever.
Shy Pupper and that the Bluecoats ‘16 ballad was the best ballad ever. And the BD ‘17 ballad. Now Vanguard. DCI’s becoming one big herd of sheep.
Honestly
Why you gotta hate. Just enjoy the freaking shows
He’s been playing for like 10 min and can still get that double E

It's literally been three years since they performed this...and I still get goosebumps at that 1:38 horn snap and the hit right after
Just came back from being on brass staff for the Guardians DBC for the 2021 season. One of the brass staff members is one of the baritone soloists. I didn’t realize until watching this clip to see if I could find him, and there he is being an absolute monster. He is such a kind and wise individual, and I really hope he goes far in the world of music and DCI.
Wait, are you sure you have the right person? (I’m not trying to doubt you, just confused). Skyler should currently be serving with the navy and not be staffing any drum corps, and Leo shouldn’t have aged out yet (2021 was his age out if I remember correctly).
@@kevinong9471 I’m sure I do! Leo chose not to March and came on staff with us this year!
Agreed, also hi Ethan
We meet again Sheriff
Yo I was contacted to guardians for the 2022 season, and leo is the brass tech for my high school (frenship)
This will forever be cemented as one of the greatest moments in DCI history. Can’t have a show without trumpet screamers, and the beautiful baritone duet being so majestic in the blending of the 2 players. Just the perfect moment imo
Glad they fixed this, the trumpet solos deserve to be heard
They're trumpets, they really don't need to be playing into microphones to be heard. 70's 80's and 90's DCI did just fine without them...
@@FredyMartinezTrumpet 70s, 80's and 90's DCI didn't have 16 baritones, 20 mellophones, and 30 trumpets all playing double forte. This was the loudest point in the show, of course they needed a mic

I’m so proud to say that this is the EXACT show that got me into marching band. 😭 I finally found it after accidentally clicking on it, and Ive never been happier
They snapped their horns so fast they broke the sound barrier making a sonic boom
Edit: i checked this comment today and i dont know why this got 1.2k likes
Nah bro
I don't mean to ruin the fun, but I'm pretty sure they popped their valves when they did it. That would be nearly impossible though
Bothrops Atrops it was a drum line click or something
@@andrewthompson9690nope. They snapped up their horns in a certain way so that the 3rd valve slide popped out and they had a thin rubber band that brought it back in, making a clicking sound
We have to snap our horns with our first valve thumb ring and push it out slightly and click it when out horns go up
Bothrops Atrops I’m pretty sure he was joking
i know everybody dick rides this show, but coming from someone who was at finals, this was legitimately unreal man. i was crying tears of joy during this show
I STILL CANT GET OVER THE SNAP I LOVE THIS SO MUCH
I must’ve listened to this over a 100x, and I still can’t get over how this song, done by the Santa Clara Vanguard, brings tears to my eyes
same. over and over again
The baritone solo in this show has probably the best dynamic progression I’ve ever heard
Ok is it me or @1:34 did they open the WHOLE can? That blend, then the snap, and that wall of sound!🔥🔥🔥
Old comment but anyone looking at this should watch their lot warm up playing the backfield part. The can was open for at least 10 seconds before the turn🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nope, it was the whole can. Prob a few other cans as well. Maybe all of the cans.
The Euphonium and Baritone are at their best when you don't even notice their sound or part is there. That's not an insult, but a compliment. They're the scent that you can't quite put your finger on that reminds you of home, the sparkle of your diseased spouse's eye that you see from stranger in a crowd from a distance, the slight whisper of a breeze that triggers goosebumps and the memories of youth, the phantom cry of your first born. Euphonium's are the resonance of memories past and present, they wrap up the the whole ensemble of life's seemingly forgetful little things that are really the most important things that ever mattered.
as a euph player id say this is pretty valid 😂💖
the Euphonium is a brilliantly named instument - look at the greek origins of the core (ium part is Latin strangely enough)
lol
Finally someone appreciates the "mini tuba" I play lmao

Yes the screamers at the end was cool, but can we talk about how the Mellos just showed out in this entire show. The Mellos won them the Jim Ott that year.
I'm an old guy in some ways but I really love this show. They really captured everything we loved about drum corps for the past 30 years or so. I even like the costumes. I can tell it is SCV because of the badge and the V decoration. Awesome all around.
5 years later and I still get goosebumps watching this. Seeing it live was amazing but this is a close 2nd.
Best baritone soloists I've heard in my life so far... hats off to you, fellas.
I wish I could go back in time to the Rose Bowl and watch this again for the first time! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time 🥲
If you haven't already, listen to the baritone duet with headphones/ear buds. It's so awesome hearing the back and forth from left to right
Came back here a few times after the 2023 cancelation. Will be sad to miss them this season but hopefully one of us lower corps gets a chance to shine

The audible snap up gives me chills
the snap is goated. the 3 trumpets made it even better
Hands down the best show of that season. Can’t wait to see what SCV has for this year
I show my 14 year old band kid this often… it’s musical magic ❤
Everybody be sure to read DCI's reply to Cameron Cavender below, in which they confirm that your ears weren't fooling you when you thought SCV was having problems with their wireless mics throughout championship week (clearly still evident near the top of the first solo). Nice work by DCI's engineers to save the performance.
@@brned1692
They had microphone issues, as lots of people listening to the show live noticed. The sound particularly during the ballad solos was too soft or suddenly too loud or was interrupted by static. Very annoying. You can still hear just a little if you listen closely, despite DCI having mixed sound from different performances to get the best possible audio for this recording.
Impressive soloists. I love the building energy in this piece and the warm ensemble sound.
Well done SCV!
this is def. top ten moments ever
The hit gives me goosebumps every time, GOD I could watch that thousands of times and never grow old of it

Seriously one of the most incredible things I’ve ever heard
For a minute I thought someone had simply Uploaded the footage with an unrelated track just to showcase the visuals. I was shocked when i realized that was actually the music the band was playing - incredible and very bold
Those low baris tho 🤘wearing headphones is a plus
The moment as soon as the entire corp plays after the soloists, BONE CHILLING!!

Seeing this live was an absolutely mind blowing experience.
My friend told me this was when she fell in love with band and her love of baritone... dude, I can see why! This is AMAZING AND BEAUTIFUL
I started the baritone last week and that duet made me really excited for it!
That percussion release just before the company front... o man you can hear it echo trough the stadium like crazy... then those mellows en rimshots braking trough that massieve soundbarrier. Gives me chills every time.

Its crazy, those are literally my top 3 favorite shows
also comment: wrong side of the tracks
I have a soft spot for babylon because I'm a euphonium, but I'd still have to give the best ballad award to Metamorph.

I'm so excited because I get to see them rehearse this Tuesday! I love drumline so much and this group sounds so good!! ❤❤❤
As a trumpet player that can scream those baritones deserve more recognition they crafted the entire thing but am I the only 1 that just wants to hear that snap on repeat tho
Everyone cheers for the trumpet screamers but nobody cheers for the baritone screamers 😔
the baritone hitting the 2nd to last note in the duet is absolutely insane
Still by far the best dci show ever created
Still get goosebumps watching 1:40 every time without fail
Serious question for DCI: how and why did you change the drum rhythm at the end? That's not what we played and you can clearly see it doesn't line up with what the snares are doing in the video.
Whenever they make the final videos/audios they edit them and if there's issues they take clips from prelims/semis nights
So I'm assuming there was something wrong with the trumpet screamer/soloist or something wrong with the original clip so they spliced something from one of the previous nights - just resulted in poor splicing/editing.
When I heard the end of the video I jumped off my second floor balcony into some bushes
@@albertavery I'm curious to know the exact circumstances that led to that. I know DCI's editors aren't stupid, so they must have known that it was wrong but were forced to do it that way. I hope.
@@cameroncavender there was an issue with the mics during the finals performance for the trumpet solos, which made them basically inaudible
@@Gavin-cd8gd ok so I'm assuming the audio was brought in from semi-finals? I don't understand why the drum part had to change.
