The high brass line is incredible, but I think the low brass deserves special recognition here. Everybody expects high brass to have the crazy-ass runs and sixteenth note -triplet passages. High brass did an fantastic job delivering, but the low brass did, too. Those are some phenomenally difficult and insane runs for low brass to execute, and they definitely delievered
The clarity and articulation shown throughout this line makes this video stunning. Granted they aren't moving/marching but they actually sound this clean on the move. I have been a member of 3 Top 10 hornlines and have followed this activity for about 20 years and this is probably the best hornline I have ever heard.
Those of you arguing about perfect scores clearly don't understand the judging system. First and foremost, the goal is to compare the scores to the other performing corps. As such, such score comparisons from year to year are useless at best. A perfect one year could be a 19.4 another, due to corps placement, spread usage, and many other factors. As a member of Crown from '10-12, I would say the most impressive thing we did was win best brass while performing 4th from the end in 2011. And we still can't believe the quality coming from the 2013 brassline!
@@rickpantoja2773 the way i like to think of it is the skill level within the competitive program. If Carolina Crown marched some scored local high school circuit they’d get perfect in everything because of how skilled they are compared to the rest of the high schools. It’s all about comparison, not perfection.
I marched 1993 with the Harloff brothers and we thought we were pretty damn good as a horn line. Hell, we were the best for our time IMO. We couldn't hold a candle to Crown's line. Granted, we used G horns which are harder to hold in tune than Bb horns, but damn!! I get goosebumps each time I hear these performers.
As an alum of the Crown organization, I can't even begin to tell you how big of a compliment this is. That being said, if I were in the 2013 corps, Im sure the only thing I'd be playing were the sustains. That book is insane.
1:34 ...... mother of God that's fast and so clean. I thought last years run was fucking ridiculous this takes the cake. That alone gives them the brass title in my book. Ridiculous. The put on top of that the rest of their show. Bravo Crown, do this more often (This means winning). You guys truly deserve it.
Would you mind finding and showing those other perfect brass scores before you start calling names. Crown was the first to receive perfect brass score on finals night.

Gosh.... Its like iceicles hissing on the edge of the sound, doesnt sound like anything ive heard before... This hornline never ceased to amaze me... Great job this season.
So cool! I regret not taking the time to drive the 15-20 minutes from my home to downtown to at least watch them warm up. Those of you who came, I hope you enjoyed Indy.
It’s double tonguing with a triplet pattern. They’re probably going TU-TU-KU but triple tonguing is TU-DU-KU, the middle part of each triplet would sound weaker if it was true triple tonguing :)
The 2014 show was so whimsical, it almost lacked gravitas. The arrangement was so playful, with nuances of The Jetsons and other kitsch Sci Fi references that it almost lost depth. The hornline's power exceeded the breadth of the arrangement. The Welcome Home ending was a bit saccharine and G rated. I would have changed the ending to be a bit more hard-edged with some kind of bump of sobriety, just for depth and variety-- the hornline was completely capable of a powerhouse ending. The next year, of course, they took that criticism, and went all the way in the opposite direction with Inferno, based on the darkest and deepest classic ever.
None. If you’ve seen them live, you know they sound so much different than any other corps. Even BD. BD imo has a very trumpet heavy sound. Crown is balanced, top to bottom. It’s incredible.
This is INSANE. Literally everything is perfect. I can't even handle it. Haha. I wish I could have seen them warm up on semis or finals. But I couldn't find them.
I was going to say the same thing! You'd think there was a synthesizer doubling the brass in warm-ups because of how warm and rich they sound. Especially those Contras, my gosh.
Madison 1974 actually got a perfect brass GE score from what I just read, and Crown pulled off a 100 in brass GE and music brass, so it sounds like you also could use some research
Reed Parker Madison did NOT get a perfect score. In 1974, DCI scored on the tick system where tenths were deducted for error. They were 1.9 points from perfect.
The only thing that would make this more awesome is to end the fast passages with huge sustained block chords instead of chopping the run off at the end. Just think it would finish more impressively to me. Otherwise this is amazing playing.
Performers Bop (Bop means to play notes short) to hear each other's parts clearer and see who needs to play out more or back off more. The problem with holding notes out is the sound will constantly change (for better hopefully). If they bop, performers can directly hear where the problem is rather than fixing it later in the chord or length of time playing the note (In other words they are working on balanced attacks on each of the notes). Bopping also helps with focusing a performers air stream and articulation on notes (essentially a warm-up). though holding out chords are nice, bopping can help a player become focused and become in time with the music.
Chris Booker This is played the way it normally would be in a show. There are some louder chords right after that segment, but they didn't continue on to that during the warmup.
There's really something to consider here in what you say, and I hope it doesn't go unnoticed. Imagine if this was your warm up! They did this playing it cold? REALLY? Just imagine.
"Nobody in DCI should EVER get a perfect 20 in Brass." Crown: "Hold my beer."
Vee 10 lmao
Where do yall find the brass scores?
