How many bottles do you use for this method?
Thank you for one of the best videos on how to use raptor liner. I feel more prepared and confident for my paint job of a Toyota hilux
Wow end result looked brilliant as it drove away.
Another awesome detailed video. Great sweeping in the painting.
thanks! 🙂
As a qualified panel beater I was happy with this not some bloke who's heard from his mates friend who knows how to do something well done mate good luck with ya gu 🤘
Cheers Gus 🤙
Nice video! Doing an application today and this was very helpful, definitely the best and most concise info I've seen. Thanks!
Wow! That's looks sick! Awesome job, great video!
That was a great video. You explained it so well. Thanks mate.
Nice work, thanks for sharing. Prep is king!
I've done the interior and hardtop and now I'm about to do the exterior bodywork, which I bought the Vari-Nozzle gun for.
Glad I did, otherwise I would've just watched your video and had a "I bloody knew it!" moment and be rushing to buy one to get it in time for when I'm planning to do the job! :D
Cheers!
Been using this stuff for years. Great and informative video!
"you need a good abrasive surface." - Oh, you mean like my 20 year old completely oxidized Taco G1 paint? Check.
🤣😅👌
Great video , tips are fantastic mate, ive been putting this of for a while ,now getting into it
Great Video, something I have been considering for my truck for a while now.
I've always wondered why it hadn't happened, so thank you for finally doing it. It looks more rad than I thought it would.
it looks great when you do it right 🙏
Looks killer! What a job!
Thx. Great info Sir. I took notes that I've yet to get from the previous 37 videos I've seen. Thx again.
Dude, this was awesomely informative. Thank you big time.
Your welcome
Very detailed instructional video, thank you mate.
Glad I could help 🤙
I'm definitely gonna follow your tips thank for the video definitely something worth watching 👌
glad it helped ✌️
Thank you!
I do everything myself, but I seriously suck at painting.
I just finished my '03 Tacoma in Bright White and it came out Great! I watched every video I could find and this one was the one that helped me the most.
I'm stoked to hear that your project came out the way you wanted it too. Glad i could help.
How much did it end up costin you?
@@noahhuffaker8115 I put 4 coats on the Tacoma, including the "dust" coat and used 13 bottles of white Raptor Liner and 3 bottles of black for the bumpers and grill. I spent about US$700 on 16 bottles of white and $140 for 4 bottles of black. There were some incidentals, like sandpaper, Scotch-Brite, etc, but the truck turned out so well I used those to paint my car too. So, for both vehicles it was about $1500 (didn't use as much paint on the car).
Looks absolutely sensational. Well done.
Cheers!
Loved the detail. Great video
I love this surface
Awesome detailed video!!
Well I was going to say that this was one of the best vids re Raptor on YT - then you mentioned that it was for a customer, well that explains it! No point in me saying that I agree with your methods, as I am DIY but this was a terrific tutorial. I did the canopy of my Navara, which turned out ok, but the tub worked out better, and I did do a mist coat at the end, and it made a hell of a difference. I am just getting in the mood, as I have my Bullbar off and prepped and am about to paint it in Raptor too. It really is a great product, goes on easily and covers up many imperfections and is forgiving for the not professional - like me. If you have a fourby it is a very useful and versatile product. Thanks again for a great vid. Cheers mate.
Looks bloody great. Also, I like the videos you do on the Nav. I've got one myself and keep looking out for your videos to see the tricks you do. Keep it up mate 👍
That's awesome Simon👍 glad you are enjoying the content ☺️
Love it. Turned out great!
Thanks Johnny
Danke, starkes Video.
Looks Beautiful and Tough 💪
Tough as bloody nails mate 😉
Awesome video man. Came out lookin mint💪🏽
Cheers Submerged 👍 i really liked the outcome too 🙌
Brilliant Mate! 🤘 ^v^
Amazing video dude! Thankyou so much for making and posting, great detail and well presented. Although you do make it look alot easier than im geussing it is! haha cheers man
you are welcome ;-) and yes, it's probably 30-40% harder than this video makes it out to be.
Great video buddy!
Bloody awesome job mate!
Thanks lachie, it's lots of fun man.
Any colour to so good!
Amazing video !
Wow that came out beautifully
Cheers Jon 👍
can't wait for more raptor liner stuff. Hoping to do my FJ cruiser at some point!
Good job, well explained
Thanking you
Thats mint
Thanks man 😊
Good work bro
Absolutely the best video I've seen about how to spray on Raptor Liner!
I'm about to spray my Toyota. First time I've ever sprayed anything.
I hope you can answer a simple question: With one hour flash time between coats, and four coats, that's more than three hours. Is it OK to leave the masking tape on that long and still get good lines? It seems like that first coat would be pretty dry by that time.
Thanks!
For better or worse, I'm doing this to my 88 Bronco!
Did u end up doing your 88 Bronco? How much Raptor liner did you use? I'm about to do mine!
Love the video mate 👍🏽 how many bottles do you recommend for a small pickup truck 🛻 thanks again mate!!
I'm going to do my Hilux tub in either Raptor or Bully liner. Would be awesome to see you do your Navara tub for reference!
Great video btw mate, just found your channel.
hoping to do this soon!
great mate, i like your explanation, i got a holden ute hx 1977/78 308, not much people recommend me, to use raptor, BUT i will do use raptor paint, as everlasting job.AND when some one jelously damage my ute, i myself will repair that scratches. or dent that might get from some idiots on the road, u know, if we do not do ourselves, those panel beaters cost more then the leg and the arms, as our vehicle values goes up, thanks again young man the best of luck,
I have done a few of these over the last 4 years. One thing rinse out your gun with lacquer thinner between coats, and your spay pattern will remain consistent.
Great video, thanks! Can you comment on how you approached painting the door jambs on the inside? is the thickness of the paint/texture an issue for door seals?
Came out real nice!!👌👌 what did you have your nozzle adjusted to. I like the fine texture you got out of it.
Doing this on my 99 forester!
What do you do about the rubber gaskets on the doors? Thanks Great Video
👍👍
great content JP! always great to have videos where we can learn from
Thanks Aaron 👌
Great job painting! Did you get to make that more in-depth video on spraying raptor on your navara tub?
That's mean asf mate good job
Awesome video! Do you ever have issues with fading over time? I know raptor liner has UV protection in it, but wanted to see what your experience is. Would you recommend spraying clear over it after your done as an added protection? Thanks
Good vid. good information. What was the colour? Come up a treat, and as you mentioned looks good in different light
This is a factory GQ patrol gunmetal Grey tint.
Hey mate, awesome work. What would it cost roughly for a 2016 BT50 dual cap, has a nudge bar, sports bar and 4” staino snorkel I’d prob get them all painted too. Thanks if ya can sort rough price but all sweet if ya can’t man.
Great vid! Which color was it on this one?
Hi I watched all your videos on how to spray using raptor liner and it was super helpful. Now I want to spray my lwb ex patient transport van in a grey raptor liner and all the black plastic parts black. How many bottles do you think I will go through? Also have you got a link to that better spray gun
Hey JP, first off great video! This was a huge help as I tackled my project. One question I had was around splotchiness in the final coat. Overall, things came out really good, but if you get in the right light, and the right angle, you can see some splotchiness in the paint. Short of respraying, have you found any tricks or things to try that can possibly blend things together and hide those little inconsistencies?
When it’s wet you can dab it with mashing tape. Light dab and matches the textured finish, once it’s dry you have to re spray it.
Hi thanks for a good video. have you done sidesteps before? i have a prado 150 i would like to coat. Does it provide a grip surface or slippery?
Nice work on the video, I have a tint able kit all read.looking at doing my Prado in the factory colour how many more kits would u recommend?
3-4 4L kits would be enough
Looks great! Doing this to my truck soon. When switching out the empty can for the full one, do you clean the gun out first? Also, does the starting/stopping between cans blend well?
I clean the gun in between coats.I have not found any issues with blending while switch paint pots on my spray job no. The downtime is minimal 5-10 minutes at most.
Cool video. Lots of things to take apart. Great result. Was that stsndard black Raptor?
No this is a tinted raptor - gun metal grey
#jpcaptured how many bottles did you use? I bought the 8 part kit from Amazon for my truck. Great video
Hi, is there a use up on the time period for the Raptor bottles or can i store it as long as i don´t mix it up with the hardener?
Very nice video. How many bottles did it take to complet
When you stated to remove the tape after the final coat, Did you do so on the first coat as you said you let it set for an hour, so are you removing all your masking and redoing it for each coat?
Mean as job u da man if only u were in nz haha I'd see u fasure
Yeh str8 up ma gee. Meen az.
Thinking about doing my 01 Dodge Ram with a red and black 2 tone....one question I have is does the tinted stay glossy after time
Hey, awesomely detailed and straight up video! Do you need any special kind of primer under Raptor?
the u-pol acid etch primer is honestly the best way to go.
@@jpcaptured799 Thanks! One more if you don't mind, would you paint a rear end with bedliner?
@@jpcaptured799 will it work with an oil base primer?
What was the gun setting, how many turns from closed? Texture looks great
Great video. I have a couple questions. What do you do with the gun between coats? And what happens with the gun while you prep the next bottle? Thanks
No answers
Gr8 video. How much paint did U use, cheers Graham
14L of raptor
Damn that yota looked good! Nice work! Do u recommend this product to protect the undercarriage ?
You can use it for the undercarriage yes
ive just ordered a 4 bottle set of tentacle raptor. but only 3 of mail colour. did that to have a free bottle when I got a small car and won't be needing all of them. or so I thought until I saw your vid. How would it work to use 1 bottle tentacle without tint for the first base coat? hard areas, corners and so on. and the 3 left for the rest?
How many containers of paint did you go through for that vehicle? I have a 2 gallon kit for my Colorado and am waiting for some warmer weather to spray - when you said 4 coats I'm wondering if I have enough or if I should get more.
Is that the 2k color or did you add color? I did one in satin black that turned out great.
Looks awesome mate I also have a patrol I’m looking to find someone to do this what would you charge to do the job from start to finish
You can email me for a quote if you like jpcaptured@outlook.com
are you able to tell us what this cost on this particular wagon, I’ve got a gq with similar accessories ?
I have a small Ford Ranger, 2 door pickup, with a short bed. Do you think a 21 gallon air compressor would be enough?
Thanks for sharing! How long does it take to dry, before you can drive it in the rain?
I recommend leaving it dry for a full 4 days before driving
What's the fading like on this product? Does it stay a satin look and or does it fade quite bit to a Matt finish
When you do the door jambs, how long do you wait before closing the doors? Doesn't closing them cause the inside to muck up?
Can’t seem to locate the U-Pol sanding pads or sanding sponges. Where did you buy yours? Thanks, Mark
Is there a way to give the Raptor finish more of a matt finish at all? Im interested in doing my GU Patrol but dont want it shiny at all.
I made a lot of mistakes spraying my f150. So to avoid more sanding and reapplying remember these tips.
1. If you are spraying with the Schultz gun make sure it is at 6Bar (90psi) at the regulator not the compressor and stand about 3 feet back.
2. Spray hard to reach spots first then maintain 90° to whatever surface you are spraying so the texture isn't skewed into streaks or ovals.
3. You can also reduce raptor which gives more coverage and will allow for a much more even coat but lower build. 4oz urethane reducer, 2oz acrylic base coat (no binders), 0.5oz base coat activator and 8oz hardener was my perfect mixture but it would overflow the bottle so mix in a separate container and do half a bottle at a time.
4. Have a full bottle of lacquer thinner or acetone ready to clean out your gun between bottles (very important) if you don't you will get thick globs sporadically.
5. HVLP guns require even higher reduction (8oz reducer) and a larger spray hole. The 1.4mm standard clogs very fast but you can drill it out carefully to a 2mm easily but still can't replicate the thick texture of a Shultz gun. Some Wagners texture guns will work but they are more expensive the cheap ones don't work well at all.
6. Rollers should only be used if necessary they are not ideal but having one just in case is a good idea. A paint sponge works great for quick touch ups on mistakes.
7. Check weather for the next 4days. It can't get wet before it's cured.
8. Read upol instructions and follow them over anything RUclips suggests.
9. Wait 45 between coats to flash
When changing the color of the vehicle how do you spray the door jambs and then close the door without disturbing the paint on the jambs.
Did you add tint to raptor liner and if so what color?
When you did the fender flares did you paint them off off the vehicle and then put them on during the rebuild? I want to do this to my 2014 silverado and I want to put fender flares on it. What do you recommend? Thank you!
You said you used four coats, how many bottles did this work out at, Im thinking of doing my GU but would probably go only two coats and maybe three with a dust coat.
Could tell me what air compressor you used? Curious what’s the min. LPM or CFM required?
What’s the trick to getting it not very rough?
If we purchase the adjustable spray gun is it possible to clean it after each use or do we have to buy a new gun for each time
Hey mate how often you clean the gun.between 1 or 2 bottle?
Just wondering how many litres will I need to spray a dual cab ute
how many kits did it take for this 4wd thanks
Also how many kits do you use with 4 coats
Do you remove and remask for each layer with raptor?
So 45-90min set time between coats then peal off 30 mins after the last coat? As long as you keep painting it's 30mins after the last that you peal off the tape?
