This is the best raptor liner video just for the simple fact that there isnt an ad every 45 seconds! Good job on the paint! Im about to paint my sons 2001 Nissan frontier and then my 2002 blazer zr2 the same way. Thanks for the video.
Well I really appreciate that! I put a ton of time and effort into making this, so I’m happy to see so many people benefiting from it. Let me know if I can help any further with your upcoming project and keep an eye out on my channel next week when I’ll be uploading another Raptor video. I’ll be lining a brand new Jeep Gladiator and I’ll cover some things I missed in this video like door jambs and disassembly for example. Thanks again and happy holidays!
@@MyJeepStory Ive painted 3 different entire 4 wheel drives with bedliner but i always used the rattle cans. The first vehicle was a 89 bronco 2 and i used the rustoleum bed liner in the rattle cans that sprays out like water and runs which looks like shit but believe it or not the rattle can bedliner Krylon makes delivered a finish close to the quality of the raptor liner you sprayed...... I painted a 88 jeep comanche with the krylon and it looked good but i probably used 30+ cans at 10$ a pop plus it took hours upon hours lol I figured id try it your way next time and save some time.
Yeah in the end, it makes a ton of sense to use Raptor. For one, it’s a two part paint as I’m sure you know and it becomes ten times more durable than anything out of a rattle can. It sounds like you’ve put a ton of effort into your rigs and you’ll get a lot more out of your work using something like Raptor in terms of finish, but also durability. 🤙 Keep up the great work and let me know how the next project goes!
@@MyJeepStory to be honest i buy fix and flip vehicles and I started using the bedliner because it covers up quick body work fixes (bondo fixes to be exact) pretty good but i started to like the rugged look so if i was fixing up a 4×4 i just started painting the entire vehicle with the liner. After seeing how good they can turn out if you get the paint sanded down good enough i decided to do my own 4wd with liner. My son saw how good the comanche turned out he started bugging me to paint his truck with it lol I tried the rustoleum roll on bedliner today and got as far as the hood before i quit and started looking for quality spray on liner.......Then i came across your video and I was convinced that Raptor is the way to go! I think im going to use black on his and maybe the grey or silver on mine. Thanks again for the video....Plus i watched your "5 mistakes you made video" and learned alot from it as well.
One more comment and ill try to keep it short as its more of a question. How many of the quart or litre size cans did you use on your jeep? My blazer is a 2 door and the back half is mostly glass so im wondering if the kit with 8 cans will be enough?
I say go for it! Doing it is extremely rewarding and I highly recommend Raptor for anyone looking to get a bad ass coating that is extremely forgiving when applying, but also is extremely durable. New uploads on my channel begin today at 12:00pm EST and in two weeks from today, I'll have my next Raptor video out where I line an entire brand new Gladiator JT!
@@MyJeepStory just did the first coat, took 6 bottles, have 6 more. Had my psi between 60-80 but the texture isn't super fine, I also applied too much to some areas on accident making it more smoothish, but that's alright. For the last coat your suppose to sort of "dust" the whole vehicle right? Holding the gun farther away, making it more matte
Watch this video just now. Ordered this stuff. Going to be doing my bumpers and running boards. I have my truck wrapped so i can't throw away the wrap just yet
I like the splatter texture. Inside wheel welds, the liner of sheet metal. Needs to be spray coated as well. All under the carriage, frame as well. If you really love it, and want to keep it for EVER
Looks good, next time I would do the body work under the initial scuffing and have any repairs underneath that epoxy primer. Typically epoxy primer is a sealer and that's gonna be your last coat before your color coat or in this case the raptor liner. It also doesn't usually sand well. But overall good job!
I often times see these steps flipped one way or another, but I think in the future I'd er the side of doing the body work under the primer. You'll see this is quite the debate online, but I would again advise doing the method you mentioned looking back. Thanks for the tip and taking the time to comment!
That was super enjoyable to watch! Thank you so much for putting this together! I don't even own a jeep, or garage or paint gun but I sure wish I did right now!
Well thank you so much! I’m glad you found enjoyment in this even if you don’t plan on doing anything similar anytime soon. I’m really flattered you even took the time to comment and I can’t thank you enough for all of the kind words. I can say that I do have another Raptor line video coming out shortly as well, so if you enjoyed this, I really think you’ll enjoy the next one too! Once again, thank you so much for watching and commenting. Enjoy the holidays and stay safe!
@@MyJeepStory Really enjoy the rest of your videos as well. Found a new favorite channel to watch and make me look forward to owning a jeep sometime in the future. Dude after watching all that I needed close ups of all the details of the finish and that jam to be playing in the background for like 3 straight minutes. It’s kind of heart breaking
Going to do this to my 99 outback soon but I’m not going to be able to afford to do it this way. I’d love to, but I might have to roll it on… I’ll see what my best options are
That was so thorough!!!! The best video I've seen. I didn't even pay attention to the time! I loved it! Your jeep is amazing 😍. I've been thinking alot about getting my 4 Runner done. I don't trust myself to do it myself. It won't be nearly as nice as yours! Thank you so much for this😀
Sweeeet,i did my toyota tacoma in ford tractor blue U-POL raptor and i get lots of compliments from the color and the texture as well, great job looks cool bro 👍🏻👍🏻
Hell yeah, Raptor is definitely an awesome product sprayed right and it sounds like you did just that! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 🙏
You have definitely broadened my horizons here sir! I just purchased an 06 Tundra double cab and have been considering different paint options only knowing very minimal about Raptor products. This hands down seems like the most economical option and could definitely turn out looking great if done systematically as you have shown, but my main questions would be: -Can you obtain a semi-gloss sheen and will it keep its sheen over time? -Can you thin it out some with thinner? -How difficult is to keep clean? -And ultimately how long and well will it hold up! Very well done informative DIY video! Thank you kindly to you and your parents!
I'm here to help and I'm glad you found value in watching my videos! Raptor is a great option in many regards from pricing to the level of forgiveness it offers to inexperienced sprayers. I'll be releasing another Raptor video in the coming weeks where I line a brand new Gladiator JT and in that video, I answer a lot of commonly asked questions that I missed in this video. That being said, feel free to ask away here in the meantime and I'll answer everything that I can! 1: Different levels of gloss can be achieved with different textures. While it won't literally be glossy, the way it reflects light causes a sparkle in a way depending on the texture. You can achieve different textures by adjusting the PSI, distance, and most importantly, by using the professional Vari-Nozzle gun. I'd take a look at what's out there and see what settings others have used to get the finish you're looking for. You can also add a clear on top of Raptor, but that's often said to defeat the purpose. Raptor is 100% UV stable and will not fade either. 2: You can absolutely thin Raptor and you must do so if you plan on shooting it with an HVLP gun as advised by U-POL themselves. I can't recall the compatible thinner at the moment, but I know it's mentioned on their MSDS available on the Raptor site. 3: Cleaning is beyond simple and the paint can be power washed and look like new again! I personally use a foam gun and a wash & wax from Adams Polishes on my finish. 4: Naturally Raptor will last plenty longer than standard finishes. This is because not only is it a two-part paint, but it's MUCH thicker than standard paints. Durability is usually a function of the thickness of the paint (assuming proper adhesion) and Raptor takes the cake! Apply two coats followed by a drop coat (covered in my next video) and you'll be good to go for YEARS. Repairs are so easy with minimal blending needed as well, but remember, prep is key! I hope this helps! Please let me know if you need anything else.
Thank you so much! I definitely wanted to make sure I set a good example for anyone who wanted to do this and made sure no details were skipped! I have a video coming out very soon covering the Raptor lining of a brand new Gladiator and I’ll be covering some questions I missed in this video as well. 👍
@@rd4501 I go over the details of what compressor works in the next video, but the exact model I used was the Industrial Air ila1883054! It's 155PSI max, 7.0 CFM @ 40 PSI and 5.7 CFM at 90 PSI. I hope this helps!
Very interesting. I too also have a WK1 Grand Cherokee, mine is the street version SRT8. My paint is just to the point now where I'm considering what to do freshen up this now 13 year vehicle. I bought this new off the lot and it's been the best, most tough, most powerful vehicle I've ever owned and because of this, the longest I've ever kept a daily driver... And after 13 years, it still amazes me how great a vehicle this one has been... But a fresh paint job can cost up to $10K and I don't think that's wise to dump that kind of money into an older , yet still cool, vehicle... Anyway, I know this is the wrong type of look for a "street" truck, but you got me scratching my head thinking "hmm but what if???" Well done video.
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment! I think for a vehicle like yours, wrapping it would be awesome to keep the clean look, but the Raptor would add a unique and rugged look. It's not conventional and sure to turn heads! I do admit, I love this rig and I understand your love for yours! 🙌
Hahahaha you got that right! I hope you enjoyed the video and I posted another Raptor video covering how I lined a brand new Jeep Gladiator. Let me know what you think if you get the chance and I’m happy to hear another Grand owner in the comments!
Hey man great video with good detail! I’ve wanted to do this for a while. Would you mind doing into some of the details with me about it? Such as cost, prep, time, etc?
Why did you choose the fancy gun? Compressor cfm? Why did you use the red stuff pads for plastic rather then the wire wheel used on the fender- scratches too deep? Anything on tooling that would have worked well enough? (Big difference in spraying with your gun? Lower output of compressor would have worked? Bondo?) Thanks, liked the video
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! I apologize for the delay in response, but I'm happy to answer your questions. To begin, I have an upload scheduled for February 20th where I Raptor an entire Jeep Gladiator JT and I answer a lot of questions that I got from this video such as the compressor I use, the cost, etc. I chose the Vari-Nozzle gun due to the fact that you can control and achieve a desired texture in ways that the standard Schutz cannot. Where you can control the PSI and distance only with the standard gun, you can also control the texture of Raptor by adjusting the tip of the Vari-Nozzle gun. The compressor I use is a 30 gallon Industrial Air p/n ILA1883054 which delivers 5.7 CFM @ 90 PSI. A 6 HP compressor that generates 150 PSI line pressure should provide sufficient air supply, but is dependent on the application equipment / gun (Shultz type or gravity feed HVLP) used to apply the Raptor. The wire wheel was just used at certain times to help remove old adhesive that I had on the Jeep. I would stay away from that when possible to avoid scratches that are a little too deep and stick to a sandpaper around 80-120 grit for best adhesion. Definitely stay away from these low grits when applying Raptor with an HVLP gun as that requires a thinner and has a higher tendency of showing scratches beneath it. In my next video, I use an Eastwood SCT to prepare the entire surface, but be careful with power tools when sanding because if you DON'T plan on using the epoxy primer first, sanding to bare metal is not a great idea as Raptor does not adhere to bare metal or rust very well without a primer. Let me know if there's any other questions that you may have and I'll get right back to you!
Any Clearcoat or Glossifier added ? I've seen super shiny sparkly black raptor liner paint jobs. And then i've seen faded raptor liner paint jobs that look faded and patch and grey looking. So wondering if theres a trick to make it shiny and UV protecting like Line X Ultra. Line X quoted me $15,000 for a Full Size Lifted Van Exterior Line X Paint Job . So here i am on RUclips learning DIY lol
That is OBSURD. I mentioned it in the video that I had worked there and I did BMW SUVs, Wranglers, and everything in between and it never breached a third of your quote. I understand it’s bigger, but a can is typically less complex and so I’m sorry you were dealt that card. Anyhow, I’m here to help and I know EXACTLY what you’re trying to achieve. For starters, no gloss was added, but gloss can be applied over Raptor. I’m not familiar with anyone adding it in and while I know some have laid gloss on after, I’ve not seen it with my own eyes. What you’re referring to in how shiny it looks is 100% down to the texture which is controlled by three variables: the distance, the pressure you shoot the material out, and the Vari-Nozzle gun if you have it. The more texture and thicker the material, the less it will reflect light and therefore the more matte finish you will have. It will look like a deeper black and can even hide imperfections a bit better. A finer texture sprayed at a higher PSI will achieve a smoother finish with less texture and will seem to sparkle when light hits it. This can be further emphasized by a dust coat at the end where you increase the PSI to ~90 and shoot from a distance greater than your previous coats and “dust” a coat of liner on for the final coat. I hope this helps! Line-X Ultra is their thinnest application for reference and to get the closest resemblance, you want to do the same with Raptor and shoot with a fine texture. Let me know if I can help out any further!
Thanks for all the info. I’ve been waiting 3-4 years now on the project because quotes on the West Coast are still in the $8,000 - $15,000 for a full exterior job. Plus when you give them the ok to do it, they are 3-6 months waiting time. So it’s not very likely happening soon for a DIY
I completely agree! Take the time to do the research and you'll save yourself a ton of additional work and headaches down the road. Thanks for watching!
Hey man nice video, just been going through youtube checking out different results from different guns etc. Just a tip for future when sandblasting (your wheel arch area in your video) you want to keep going until the brown/red inner ring disappears as you left rust under there.
I legit love you for this video. I've watched countless. And now that I'm about a month out from jumping in to this project, your video is the best thing I've come across. Came out so beautiful. And man do you show case well. How do you feel it will hold up? Decided to jump on this before my SAS and cummins swap on my dakota. My paint is just struggling more and more everyday.
I'm sorry for the delay in response! I've just finished my second move and have finally settled in and have the time to answer some comments. I spent so much time making this video from filming to editing and I can say that it's always worth it when I get comments like these. The Raptor has held up really well and it has been applied on the Jeep for over two years with no issues aside from some peeling on the chrome door trim where the lettering is clearly because I didn't sand in them. Otherwise, I have taken the Jeep down tight trails with branches scraping them and there have been no instances of chipping or peeling anywhere and where I applied it to the lower part of the rocker panels, the salt has had no effect on it! There has been no fading or anything like that either. I also want to mention that on February 20th, I'll have an upload premiering where I Raptor an entire Gladiator JT, so that should also give you some additional tips and a look at another project I did. I'm excited to see what you think of that and in the meantime, please let me know if there's any other questions I may answer in preparation for your project! Good luck and let me know how it goes!
Thank YOU for taking the time to comment. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need any help at all. I also opened a shop in Billerica, MA and would be happy to take on the project if you're not up for it 👍
I'll assume you have a compressor, but I'll include the price of a gun here as well. Material cost was for about 16 liters and for every four, it's about $100. Often times, you can get the standard Schutz gun for free with an online order of four liters. (Note that in the video, I had the gallon of Raptor and the gallon of hardener which is more expensive upfront, but cheaper if you plan on doing many projects with Raptor over time). Raptor's Epoxy Primer is only offered in the gallon kit and is about $150, if not a little cheaper. For disposables such as tape, paper, etc, I'd budget $50 on the cheaper side. You'll also need PPE such as a mask (required) and if you'd like, I'd get the painter's coveralls that keep you clean. Gloves are certainly recommended as well. Raptor liner: $400 Raptor Epoxy Primer (optional, but recommended): $150 Disposables: $50 PPE: $50 So overall, we're looking at about $650 before tax, but you can certainly do this for less by waiting for deals on Raptor!
Verry good video! how much bottles of raptor bedliner does it take for the whole jeep including all plastic and bumpers? I have 8 at the moment for a montero but i am afriad to come out short.
Ok you may have answered this but how many man hour did you put into this plus any corrections or additional coats...guesstimate? Wonderful and informative on the process. A lot more than I was thinking. I want to do my Ramcharger next spring.
Thank you so much for watching and just so you know, I will have another video out within two weeks covering the process again, but painting a brand new Jeep Gladiator! The hours depends and it will ultimately come down to how perfect of a finish you're looking for. For reference, you can easily get this done without stripping the vehicle during a weekend, but for a full strip of parts, I plan on three weeks. It doesn't need three weeks, but setting aside that time allows for a mistake here and there with time to recover and fix anything that may go wrong. Plus when you remove and paint parts, you want to wait between 48 hours and a week to reinstall the parts as well and the little things really add up. It's tough to give you an estimate of the time it took for this Jeep since the filming took a big chunk of it. Please let me know if you have any other questions!
What is your opinion on the Barricade Ultimate Sprayable Bedliner product from Rugged Restore? It is water soluble and it appears to be a good product.
@@dangerousfreedom4965 I'm sorry for the delay! As for my lift, it will be a mix before I head to getting the Superlift. I'll be focussing on parts that supplement a lift such as control arms front and rear along with new components at every corner. I'll be using Dobinsons springs, struts, and shocks since they offer higher spring rates to compensate for my bumpers, tire carrier, winch, etc.
Great video and nice job! Just did my Cherokee. Came out great. But hoping you or someone here can help answer this for me. I removed all the emblems before painting but what’s the best way to reattach them? 3M tape isn’t sticking too well to the raptor.
I always suggest masking off areas underneath and behind panels/trim/handles so that when it comes time to reattach, the threaded holes arent obstructed, retaining clips dont need to be replaced, and you leave some raw surfaces for mounting tapes to adhere to
Best raptor video on here , and I’ve watched them all ,

Definitely a good instructional video. Just made me wanna Raptor Line my Kodiak.
I'm doing my whole Silverado tomorrow. Your videos are invaluable
Let me know how it goes and if you need any help.
@@MyJeepStory finished the truck the same day, it looks really good.
Meticulous and detailed bro! great job! Thanks for sharing this with us
Thank you so much! I appreciate you taking the time to comment and watch the video.
Nice to see someone who does things right. Great attention to detail and thoroughness.
Watch this video just now. Ordered this stuff. Going to be doing my bumpers and running boards. I have my truck wrapped so i can't throw away the wrap just yet
great job, cant wait to do my 94 blazer now....
Good luck and let me know how it goes!
I like the splatter texture. Inside wheel welds, the liner of sheet metal. Needs to be spray coated as well. All under the carriage, frame as well. If you really love it, and want to keep it for EVER
Excellent video. Your hard work shows.
Thank you so much 🙏
Great vid thank you , by far the best vid on how to apply the product
I have a 98 ZJ that I was thinking of doing the same thing too after I get it road worthy this summer. Looks great by the way.
You have definitely broadened my horizons here sir! I just purchased an 06 Tundra double cab and have been considering different paint options only knowing very minimal about Raptor products. This hands down seems like the most economical option and could definitely turn out looking great if done systematically as you have shown, but my main questions would be:
-Can you obtain a semi-gloss sheen and will it keep its sheen over time?
Thank you kindly for taking the time to explain all of that, sounds very logical. I am looking forward to your upcoming video! Blessings!
You made a great video.

Thank you so much! I definitely wanted to make sure I set a good example for anyone who wanted to do this and made sure no details were skipped! I have a video coming out very soon covering the Raptor lining of a brand new Gladiator and I’ll be covering some questions I missed in this video as well. 👍
@@MyJeepStory looking forward to watch the gladiator video. Also I forget to asked you about the type/size of compressor you used?
looks cool man!
I appreciate it, Peter!
what could be more fun than watching paint dry lmao looks great i plan to do the same thing to my grand this summer great looking job god bless

Hey man great video with good detail! I’ve wanted to do this for a while. Would you mind doing into some of the details with me about it? Such as cost, prep, time, etc?
Great work, very helpful instruction, fantastic results. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thumbs up for doing it right
So it once and do it right! Thanks for watching 🤙
Bondo?)
Thanks, liked the video
Excellent job and fantastic explanation. ❤️🇺🇸
Glad you liked it!
Great tips brother! God bless!
Thanks! You too!
Ugghhh...my nightmare! Here I am removing Raptor from a cj7 I just bought! 🙃 nice vid though! Citristrip is awesome!

Hey mate great video how much paint did the whole car require
Hey man nice video, just been going through youtube checking out different results from different guns etc. Just a tip for future when sandblasting (your wheel arch area in your video) you want to keep going until the brown/red inner ring disappears as you left rust under there.
Your Extremely Blessed🙏🏿
This is the first Raptor Liner video I've seen where the anti-corrosive epoxy primer is used. Is this a requirement?
Thanks for your time spent helping others. Nice work, trying to get the courage to get started on my 2017 ram power wagon.
Thank YOU for taking the time to comment. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need any help at all. I also opened a shop in Billerica, MA and would be happy to take on the project if you're not up for it 👍
Looking to do my Trailblazer. What'd it cost you?
Raptor liner: $400
Raptor Epoxy Primer (optional, but recommended): $150
Disposables: $50
PPE: $50
So overall, we're looking at about $650 before tax, but you can certainly do this for less by waiting for deals on Raptor!
@@MyJeepStory Nice. That's not bad at all. Thanks a lot!

This isn't a bad idea 🤣
How did you handle the door jambs? They don't appear to be masked. I like the foam tape at the body lines to keep new paint out.
Really nice. Thx for the link.
Awesome, glad you found it and thanks for watching!
Well done video congrats what is the cleaner that you used for the gun ?
I use Eastwood's paint gun and equipment cleaner, but now I have an automatic paint gun cleaner since opening up a shop in New England!
What is your opinion on the Barricade Ultimate Sprayable Bedliner product from Rugged Restore? It is water soluble and it appears to be a good product.

@@MyJeepStory what lift you going with?
@@dangerousfreedom4965 I'm sorry for the delay! As for my lift, it will be a mix before I head to getting the Superlift. Enjoyed your vid. How do I keep the Raptor gun clean between coats? Any tricks?
Great video and nice job! Just did my Cherokee. Came out great. But hoping you or someone here can help answer this for me. I removed all the emblems before painting but what’s the best way to reattach them? 3M tape isn’t sticking too well to the raptor.
I always suggest masking off areas underneath and behind panels/trim/handles so that when it comes time to reattach, the threaded holes arent obstructed, retaining clips dont need to be replaced, and you leave some raw surfaces for mounting tapes to adhere to
