    😀😀😀 Wow 😀😀😀
    I used the Bully today in a rusted car boot/truck application. Used wire brush to take most back to bare metal then masked up and etch primed yesterday. Went out there today, hit it with scitch-brite pad, cleaned it up ready for spraying. Its 26'C and 69% humidity. I poured the Bully into an electric Wagner pump, first with a waterbase valve but it sprayed too fine a mist, then swapped it out for an oil base valve. The stuff comes off the gun well with good coverage. Ive used about 600ml from the 1 litre tin. Although the paint colour states Midnight on the can, it actually sprays out a greyish blue colour which darkens as its drying. It will go a darker grey, then gunmetal, then charcoal black in an hour. The most impressive thing about it was how easy it was to clean up afterwards. I poured the excess paint back in the tin, filled the paint reservoir with water and sprayed it through until the jetstream was clear but shooting out the fine granules. Then I emptied the water and refilled with fresh water again. The clean water then pushed out the last of the granules sand my reservoir was already clean! Pulled apart the gun and all the components washed easily in an icecream container of water. It is SO EASY and quick to clean up afterwards from as the paint easily washes off with water. I give it a thumbs up. Will update on the finish in a few hours....

    When I was a kid I had this electric track car system that came with two little trucks and two handheld remotes. A fun game to see how fast you could get them to run around the track before/without flying off across the room. As I recall, the little RC trucks looked EXACTLY like your truck. I think it they even said "Bandit" on them. I'm in my 30s now and I haven't seen any of those RC cars around since that era, but I'm pretty sure they're still boxed up in my parents garage. Now I want to go dig them out and see if they're still there just to see if my memory is serving me correctly or making correlations that don't exist. I came for the Raptor Liner info, but I stayed and subscribed for the badass truck.

    I've always been impressed with the raptor finish. I use it to coat smaller items- the only thing is the coarse texture you get from applying a higher build doesn't look as good on smaller objects, yet it is tougher.
    The lower build I use is more satin-matte.. looks really even and catches the light really nicely.

    Thanks for the video. It was very interestng. I've been looking at doing my van life van with the Raptor. I just priced the bullyliner and can get 8 cans of the Raptor for for a few bucks more then 4 cans of the bullyliner. Plus, you can tint the Raptor whatever color you like and paint your coats and it's done. With bullyliner, you paint your coats on then you still have to come back a spray your color on, which is a lot more work. Plus, the bullyliner is very limit in the color choices. The only thing I do like is that it says you can use a rollor and or brush to apply it. Verese with the Raptor, you have to mix different things with it, etc...to be able to roller it on, and it still does not go on the easiest from what I've seen. I'd love to see you do a project and roller and brush it on. Thanks again.

      Depends. Looks like two excellent products with slightly different strengths and weaknesses. For amateur use Raptor is much more expensive to use, because it is solvent based vs water based. Much more expensive to clean guns, etc after each use, difficulty sanding for touch ups, need for breathing apparatus if using in confined spaces. Pretty easy to paint a clear gloss or satin finish over the Bully.

When I got my rust free montero, I considered getting a professional coating on the wheel wells and rockers. They wanted an arm and a leg. I mean more than I paid for the vehicle. I will look into these when I get around to doing some exterior coating next time.

    Notice how he didn’t do the rope burn test on the bully liner at all. On another not I’m probably just nit picking but he picked, up the saw blade a second time and start scraping that around the raptor liner, which is a good test but he didn’t do it to the bully liner either. I recon if your going test both products keep the test the same and equal all the way through.

      Sorry I didn’t want come off as a smart allic, but I would have like to see the rope, burn test and the blade test done the same way on the bully liner. As it is a rubber base and not plastic polymer base as the raptor liner. I’m not favouring the raptor liner I just wanted, to know the burn through / sand paper like abbration, speed rate down to the metal as it is to different, material types as I want to do my whole vehicle in a reliable product.

Crash testing is really showing commitment to the road test review! 😁 2 questions please - If I just have a combined air regulator/water trap without an additional big dollar water separator in the air line, does the possibility of any water in the air line rule out buying the Raptor off you (and therefore defaulting to the Bully's water based product)?
    Second - does either product have better sound deadening properties?

I do auto parts delivery for a living remind her has gotten beat to shit from all of the sharp edge metal parts I regularly have to put in my cab. Everything that plastic is getting raptor line. I’m also going to be raptor liner in the rest of my truck, that means the bed the whole exterior, and I might even do the wheels and raptor liner since I do a lot of wheeling. I don’t have the money for a regular paint job, But the irony is for a fraction of the price I can use raptor liner and get a much more durable finish than standard auto paint.

    For those interested you can use degreaser and a big brush to clean the raptor liner. Then afterwards use 303 protectant and it looks bright shiny and brand new!!
    I did that on my wrangler hard top and it always looked incredible. You can 303 on everything, it’s like armorall but doesn’t suck and ruin stuff over time. Also I used that parts store bed liner( I think herculiner... it came in a gallon tin with no hardner and you roll it on ) on the interior tub of my Jeep to replace carpet and that stuff basically ruined my Jeep. Sand and mud would adhere to the liner because it was so soft and it was a nightmare. Raptor liner and others that are two part with a hardner work soooo much better.

    Having just used bully liner myself on a bull bar about 3 weeks ago it's great...until you get a hot day once the steel underneath warms it gets as makes sense "rubbery" and can be picked off or on a 4*4 track as any contact is going to gouge it off, if steel is cold it's rock hard. Think will carry on to use raptor instead

      Sorry for the slow response on this one guys. We have been making an oven where we are going to put this to the test. We thought we would be well and truly be finished making/testing by now but it keeps getting pushed back with everything else we are trying to do- we will have some testing up in the coming month/s. Rather than the rubber, Bully is an acrylic paint so it will soften when in extreme heats however we have had the Bandit sitting in 40 degree C (105 degree F) days and raced it around in the height of summer high 30degrees, scrapping other cars and it hasn't been an issue. It will be interesting to see how the results come out.

I've already been using raptor liner on my trucks bumpers and rockers and it's holding up well. Some rock chips after 8 years but it's time to add another few liters and make it even thicker

    I’m wanting to paint my Nissan hardbody about the size of your Toyota. I want it to last awhile but I’m not very good with tinting and such. Actually I’ve never done it at all. I want to go with raptor liner but when you said the satin is kind of spotty? If you were going to paint your whole truck with one which would you choose? I think I’m leaning towards raptor liner. Good choice? It gets hot in Montana so I don’t want the rubbery feel that billy gets.

    • @carbuilders1
      @carbuilders1  5 лет назад

      Both are a hard finish. Although Bully has a rubber base, the 'hardness' of the products feels similar. Really the choose comes down to factors discussed in the video. If you want a glossy finish that is easier to clean, Raptor is the paint for you.

    Sorry big thing you missed and from my experience using the bully liner is on a hot day it actually feels like uncured paint and comes away under a fingernail , cool days it's hard as a rock but a hot day heading to beach and needing to get off the track into the scrub to pass and I can see it being gouged off, I used it on bar work and stopped once I spotted this issue, talking months after applied and like I said rock hard on a cool or mild day but leave it out in the sun 35+ and it's like uncured paint (not as bad but that effect), I imagine that's the effect of having the rubber compound in it

    FYI - The Raptor, for what it's worth, can also be over painted with 2 pack paint...or base cleared for additional color combinations. Also - I noticed in the rope test, you didn't do the same evaluation on the Bully Liner and based on how the hammer scratched the Bully - I think the rope would have really torn right through it....IMO.

      Hi Mark. Yes, Raptor and Bully can be painted over with 2 pack 👍As mentioned in previous comments, the rope test was done on both but missed the video editing 🤦‍♂️It is a servere test and ate through both paints (best way to think about these paints is 5 times stronger than a conventional paint)

    So this video is 2 yrs old now, if you still have the truck done up like this, which product has been the most durable? I'm planning to use bed liner pretty extensively in my truck project, been pretty set on the Raptor, but I never heard of the Bully before...I live in the States, so that's probably not surprising...Lol! Anyways, which one has held up better in the long run? The Bully looks like it lost a lot more material from that claw hammer, has it hardened more with age?

    • @carbuilders1
      @carbuilders1  3 года назад +1

      Good question. Without sounding too typical, they actually have both stood up well and have been comparable over the journey. Both have retained the qualities from when they were sprayed. A noticeable difference is when cleaning. Raptor is an easier finish to wash whereas Bully is harder to get clean as dirt gets trapped in the texture (which is why we started using a clear coat on top).

      Hi Izzey23. Sorry it came across this way (filming/editing fatigue may have let us down 😫). Just a rando internet opinion but I have used the raptor lining once (did the inside of my Jeep). IMO the raptor is better for DIY stripped interiors IE Jeeps where the grip isnt super important. The bully seems like is would be better as an actual bedliner. Just my 2 cents, but i must say i love being able to actually power wash the inside of a vehicle. Lots a hilarious look at the local wash

    Nice review of the hardness of these paints, but the question of which one is better was not definitively answered. I am still in the dark.

    • @carbuilders1
      @carbuilders1  5 лет назад +4

      Oh no... Well, through our testing we discovered that they performed very similarly. The greater difference, or the better one, depends on the level of skill of the user (Bully is much easier to use as a water based solution), access to equipment (Raptor is 2K and should be done with the appropriate safety equipment), the look (Raptor has a more glossy appearance and Bully is more matte), need for a particular colour (Raptor can be tinted to colour match and Bully has a select range), texture (Bully is much grippier) or clean up (Raptor surfaces clean much easier- although Bully are bringing out a top coat which will improve this area for the product). So outside of performance, which was the same, the other factors will make one product a clear winner for one person but not another. Good luck with your project.
