Martha Argerich is very intelligent here, I adore her thinking, every emphasis, detail and phrasing is in balance. Every melody- and harmonydetail is based on understanding in a right way in the heart the meaning of the music. Every note gets the right value of its own vibration, i can even see the notevalues in my head while listening to this, she hears every detail and the playing is tuned perfectly. THANK YOU for providing this video from 1970! Wonderful to see Martha and Franco in their younger years! And Martha still sings the notes to her fingers! Amazing video and sound quality!
I love this engraving even though I prefer the 1919 one. Argerich and this concerto are symbiotic, and she succeeds, in some parts, to create an atmosphere of spectacular sweetness and abandon while never losing the sense of drama. I lived several years in buenos aires and one of my biggest regrets is never having had the opportunity to hear her live.
Inarrivabile! Queen Martha 😍😍😍🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶😍😍😍😍
It’s so wonderful to watch this lovely lady play so well and when she’s soo young. It’s like looking into a Time Capsule. What a glorious talent. I just adore Martha. She reminds me of my teacher who had a similar temperament and long black hair!
Muchas gracias!!!
For ALL of you "Arm Chair" experts out there, Beethoven was quite ready to excuse a wrong note (or three), but an unimpassioned performance was most emphatically inexcusable! "Experts" (who have never performed ANYTHING IN PUBLIC in their lives!) are especially miffed and bothered when faced with talent and excellence beyond their abilities... that being very much the case here! During the present 2021 Chopin Competition, there were at least 20 pianists who played their Études and Nocturnes note-perfect… absolutely devoid of emotion… and NONE of them moved on to the 2nd round! Hmm, I wonder how that could be??? That being said, I could listen to Martha play "wrong notes" beautifully all day long... and not care in the least. Martha, in the early 1970s, was a prowling LIONESS behind the keyboard and a pianistic force of Lisztian proportions; there have been literally MILLIONS of "pianists" who have paled by comparison… and there will be many more. Mike D.
@@suzyserling277 Thanks Suzy; I just grow so utterly TIRED of "experts" casting aspersions on world-class performances... and most of them will never know (let alone learn!) just how much talent, dedication and serious hard, refining work it takes to become a Martha Argerich! Martha doesn't just play the notes... she LIVES & BREATHES them. I thank you very kindly. Mike D.
Well... a synthesizer can also play note-perfect. In the current 18th Chopin Competition in Warsaw what is remarkable is the number of pianists who play admirably, at par with world-class pianists. And they play with high degree of near perfection. The goal of perfection does not have to conflict with pianistic excellence.
Horowitz is such a good example of this. We can listen to his completely muddy playing at it still sounds beautiful. I wonder why. Is it maybe because of his age and how we perceive him? No idea. Not taking credit away from his playing though. Not every old person can play so many wrong notes as beautifully as Horowitz. Perhaps muddy isn't the right term here, since he doesn't use much pedal.
Agreed. I can't stand note-perfect yet antiseptic renditions. This is a surprisingly good performance, not only by Martha who attacks the piano w/o reservation and inhibition, but also by the orchestra. Very crips and musical. The recording is also good considering the limitations of 1970 television equipment.
I’m so pleased to have come across this absolutely wonderfully mesmerizing performance by what this young woman of what I calculated would be 29 years old showing much depth and joy playing this concerto ! and now at 80still going strong with a very divers repertoire always looking for new Horizons! A world class musician always a very satisfying experience to listen to . Many thanks for the posting
Amazing to see this composition of Chopin with Martha Mangerich playing piano .A breathtaking performance with this Orchestra so many years ago. I have never seen this one . Thank you. 👏 👏 👏 👏
Many favourable pieces get me tired, for being played so often. THIS piece stays alive for me. The orchestra is just wonderful. (I'm sure that is in great part owing to the conductor). Argerich's feminine, delicate touch, alongside with her energetical one, when the music calls for it,(the piano under her fingers at times rages like a storm) is always joy to my ears. Today, when she is almost 80, as she was then, at 29 years old.
Piano and orchestra very well balanced. The recording is perfect. Now the orchestra, the conductor, and Martha Argerich are insurmountable. “If music be the food of love, play on” William Shakespeare' or Martha Argerich?
What a gem. Thank. you for posting this gift. Martha!!!! You broke my heart into many pieces with this. Wow. Just looked up and Mannino and discovered he was a film composer amongst many other things. What a fascinating man. But most of all, hats off to the great Chopin, who was all of 19 when he wrote this.
This excellent video recording of the renowned Argentine pianist Martha Argerich playing the opus 11 by Chopin, reminds us that we just saw the finals of the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. The young Canadian Bruce Liu was laureate and as customary during the closing ceremony played the concerto 1. Martha Argerich won this world famous competition as well, she had an age not too far from that in the present recording. It is evident that she possessed the technique and the emotional depth required to play Chopin in all its difficulty and mystery.
I'm so glad this recording still exists, she plays fine in her older age ,but this passion , this piano is much stronger ,sends shivers down my spine, she truly loved playing with all her heart and you can feel that through every key pressed.
Astonishing talent that is still considered one of the smallest handful of the best in a world now teeming with high-quality pianists. What a gift to us all she is!!

Absolutely fascinating...! What a treat to have this treasure moment recorded, thank you so much for uploading! She is simply mesmerising in this performance.
I love this but honestly, I first clicked on it because we have striking similar looks; she could be my twin at that age (whatever it is) and we share the same name! I would have been 8 years old when this was recorded and I didn't excel at piano but I am a lifelong musician myself. This is so enriching to listen to and watch. Thank you for posting. ~ Martha!

This is amazing to watch a recording from so many years ago. Brilliant music!
Piękno muzyki Fryderyka Chopina to fenomen graniczący z cudem.
I've never heard anything more beautiful than this.
Inarrivabile! Queen Martha 😍😍😍🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶😍😍😍😍
Simply marvellous! One of the most beautiful concerto in such an aoutstanding performance. Thanks friends for sharing it!
Their brains are located in their hands. That's how I describe perfect musicians!
Mike D.
I absolutely agree with you!. Perfection does not exist in music!, that is why it is called interpretation!. I hope many people read your comment!
👍🏻⭐️
I’m so pleased to have come across this absolutely wonderfully mesmerizing performance by what this young woman of what I calculated would be 29 years old showing much depth and joy playing this concerto ! and now at 80still going strong with a very divers repertoire always looking for new Horizons! A world class musician always a very satisfying experience to listen to . Many thanks for the posting
❤AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!! My first time seeing this video!! My ears may never walk again….🥰🥰🥰 Blown away…..
Amazing to see this composition of Chopin with Martha Mangerich playing piano .A breathtaking performance with this Orchestra so many years ago. I have never seen this one . Thank you. 👏 👏 👏 👏
This lady still kicks ass after so many years. This was 3 years before i was born. Mind-blowing.

I agree.
Argerich is NOT the greatest pianist of all times, but ONE OF THE great pianists of all times. There is NO super pianist in this world.
best version, what magic was her key touching, I enjoy these notes one by one, I don't care the others like melody, rhythm etc any more.
Nuestra querida Martha Argerich, un placer escucharla. Saludos desde Argentina.
My favorite concert! I really loved her interpretation! She is amazing!! Bravissimo!!❤❤❤
What a gem. Thank. you for posting this gift.
Merci Chopin ! Merci Martha !
What's incredible is she plays this concerto today as well if not better than she did then ......
I'm so glad this recording still exists, she plays fine in her older age ,but this passion , this piano is much stronger ,sends shivers down my spine, she truly loved playing with all her heart and you can feel that through every key pressed.
Just wonderful. How happy to be alive and hear a so beautiful and touchable composition and performance!
😍🌷🌷🌷🌷👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Wow!! a tresure of her piece ...that is a fantastic concert.... THANK you.....
Fantastically beautiful performance in every sense of the word ... she would have received a standing ovation from an audience today.
Astonishing talent that is still considered one of the smallest handful of the best in a world now teeming with high-quality pianists. What a gift to us all she is!!
Simply beautiful ! No need for showoff just talent!

I've been looking for this for years! Thank you so much for this treasure.
She is fantastic
Martha Argerich was so beautiful! My favorite female pianist, the only one!
39:24 that moment always puts a smile on my face. It’s so incredibly beautiful.
I love how she improvised some chords that went with the orchestra at the end!
Already after 18th Chopin Competition. Still no change.
This is the most beautiful performance!
There are many changes. Her interpretation of this piece varies a lot from performance to performance. That’s one of the things I love about her. She always finds ways to keep the music fresh an alive, and shows incredible imagination and flexibility of thinking.
There are MUSIC that transport to the other galaxy to the other sky...perfectly
Absolutely fascinating...! What a treat to have this treasure moment recorded, thank you so much for uploading! She is simply mesmerising in this performance.
I love this but honestly, I first clicked on it because we have striking similar looks; she could be my twin at that age (whatever it is) and we share the same name! I would have been 8 years old when this was recorded and I didn't excel at piano but I am a lifelong musician myself. This is so enriching to listen to and watch. Thank you for posting. ~ Martha!
Chopin to najpiękniejsza spuścizna dla ludzkości.
Lastima la interprete.
Kako je Marta lepa. I jos uvek je lepa. ❤️🌷❤️
breathtakingly beautiful

Martha Argerich, in her younger days, was one of the most stunningly beautiful women I've ever seen, alluring, cool and enigmatic. Many men have fell under her spell.
She is absolutely confident and obviously in love with the music...
Y la música de ella❤
Hermosa, joven, genial.
