It’s an opportunity of a lifetime to join Slipknot and that opportunity is only available for a short time. It makes perfect sense for him to join Slipknot as his career would be shortly coming to an end with Sepultura. As successful as Sepultura is, Slipknot is on a whole different level of success. It’s one thing to be playing in concert theaters and clubs, but it’s another thing to be playing at large concert arenas like Slipknot does. The window of opportunity doesn’t come often and is only open for a brief while. You need to seize that opportunity when it’s available. Yes the timing is bad for Sepultura but deep down if they care for Eloy, they should be happy for him.
Totally agree and obviously he took the opportunity. Just wish Slipknot and/or Eloy would've done this just a little earlier than a week before the tour started. I can't imagine when they would've done if they couldn't have found a drummer with the willingness and availability to be able to commit.
Eloy is one of the best if not the best metal drummer on the planet right now (subjective obviously, but I'm taking technicality, speed, precision, feel, versatility and showmanship into account), you're completely sleeping on him. Even if him joining Slipknot would be a "waste" of his talent (unless he's allowed to express himself and bring something new to the table), it's still a huge opportunity for him and his career and if Slipknot put pressure on him to join and not go on tour for a full year with Sepultura, you gotta respect his decision. As I said, the guy is already goated, he's another level above Jay or Joey (who are already phenomenal drummers don't get me wrong) : just check any of his performance with Sepultura, Slipknot covers on his youtube channel, or his prog side project with Hanysz. It's purely god tier level drumming.
Don’t know why some people hold famous artists or athletes to different standards than themselves. Think about it like this: If you were working in a company going out of business the next month and you got a call to go work on another big company, wouldn’t you do it? For yourself, for your family? I think Eloy is right.
Yeah, totally understandable, which is probably why he went through with it. Just wish it didn't have to be that way. At the end of the day, a band is a business after all.
Guys, Eloy has a side project in which he plays some "slow" music, CASAGRANDE & HANYSZ... It is more like a progressive metal/rock, but it is interesting to get to know better his range of playing.
I've seen him play slow stuff and he's a master but it's just not for me I like to the animalistic style he did with Sepultura hope he can bring some of that too slipknot
If you're in a company that announced that it's shutting down, do you want to stay with the sinking ship or do you keep an eye out for more opportunities to elevate your career? To me, it's as simple as that. Sure, some shoes will be stepped on but hey that's life. Good for him on making that call and I wish him all the best. The kid's got a bright future ahead of him.
Guys, you have no idea who Eloy is. He is a more technical player than anyone that played for slipknot so far. Just Google the guy beyond his slipknot covers.....
Today it's difficult to keep a name in secret, we saw Axl Rose going to rehearsal with ACDC, kind of impossible today when everyone can get a picture of someone going to airport or any of other situation, I'm from Brazil and I believe they are discussing for months. Eloy is a good fit for the band.
Agreed. They'd have to try really hard to keep him covered up, that's if they care that much anymore to even try. I'll be at some of these festivals that they're doing working for another band but I'm sure it will get leaked before then anyway.
Sepultura announced their farewell tour. Eloy is a young guy, I think he's the only one in the band who doesn't have his financial life sorted out. If there really was an invitation from Slipknot, it's quite reasonable for him to want to go. I'm sad for Sepultura but excited about this possibility for him to join Slipknot. He's an extremely versatile and creative drummer or Maybe he simply decided to give up on a year and a half tour and wants to spend time with his family; after all, he got married recently.
I think multiple things are pointing at the Slipknot possibility which is really good for him. He stated that he left Sepultura to pursue another project so sounds like he'll still be busy. I agree that he had to do what's best for him. Just sucks the timing didn't work out.
Plenty of people, whether Knot is mainstream or not....know who Eloy is. MUSICIANS, know who Eloy is. That's the difference. Opportunist is the human way, he's young and he'll have a career with Slipknot. But let's not forget that Slipknot is a ticking time bomb....you never know what those guys are going to do.
Very true on the ticking time bomb. I don't think anyone suspected Jay would be let go of so you just never know. Their career is probably nearing the end too though, sadly, so Eloy will at least finish out their career if he gets the gig, I would hope.
Eloy is a young guy who played on modern drummer festival's stage at 13 years old which is unbelievable. Not just a band drummer who served an old metal band for 13 years. So yes, with or without slipknot or sepultura, he is a drum legend to all drummers.
Eloy was born in a city close to my home here in Brazil. He won as the best drummer of the world when he was 12 years old, completely focused on playing in high level.
Look, If he indeed joins Slipknot in my opinion his decision is understandable. Maybe he was put against a wall to make a choice ASAP. First off, it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join a band as big as Slipknot, Sepultura is coming to an end, he will earn way more and likely secure financial stability for life, "Not implying he is struggling financially with Sepultura" but come on, probably earning pennies compared to what he could earn with slipknot.I woul;ve done the same.
It's known that Sepultura as a band, is about to call it quits. He probably asked for his last cut of the money and he just had to leave when he saw the amount of his last check. Maybe? But, as a drummer, he just saw the opportunity and he jumped on it. Job security, if he bought a house, then he wouldn't want to worry about where his next paycheck will come from, after Sepultura breaks apart after their tour gig.
If Eloy joins slipknot everyone will understand his desicion too get up and go if it's a lesser known band he skipped the tour too join he will cope a backlash..I thinks it's certain and I always thought he wasn't a good fit for slipknot but when they said they were firing Jay for creative reasons it makes sense..slipknot need a new lease on life they have been average lately I think Eloy could help with that
I dont find it unprofessional that he left without notice. If you care about your bandmates you know that if an opportunity like that comes around you have to be quick. Its not like theres no competition.
It's mostly the timing of it that put them in a scramble to find someone on such short notice that I find unprofessional but I understand the opportunity giving to him and he had to take it. In this industry, it's a small world and I just know from experience that when you bail on something you committed to, most people don't forget. Of course, these are completely different circumstances for an artist vs crew member and also because Sepultura will be no more.
In reference to him hitting hard, you guys need to check out Eloy's recent Drumeo sessions. Especially the one about bringing traditional Brazilian drumming to metal.
"The way things are going for Slipknot"? The End So Far sold very well and they were just in the running for a Grammy...despite the haters they're doing just fine.

Just my 2 cents: first of all, sepultura chose him because he already was an incredible player back then. It's obvious that being in sepultura boosts his career, but they didn't make him a favor by choosing him. He paid his seat in the band by putting all his effort into it during 13 years. Second, he is young and still has years of career. The other members want to do an ending in their careers, calling the death of the band. It's poetic after 40 years of hard work. But it's a premature death to a young player. The way it happened is not good, but I don't think he is wrong in this.. there's no easy way to say goodbye :/
Well said. I think everyone just wishes the timing would've worked out better. Unfortunate that so many of the schedules overlapped and he was forced to make a decision. Can't imagine how the rest of Sepultura felt when they found out.
