    They really killed it here. I love the USB"B" port. I use one in my car and anywhere else I can. FYI I don't believe there's any RCAs that screw into the Tiffanies, They just create a much more solid mounting when they can sandwich the case. This is a really solid unit. I'll stick w my helix of course, but They really put some thought into this here.

    This DSP would be a no brainer for me if it had the import function that Helix has and I’m betting that it doesn’t. It’s such a pain in the ass to manually input PEQ values from REW. I don’t know why other DSP brands don’t incorporate that function into their PC based control software. It can’t add that much addition cost can it?

    Oh damn... I was expecting Chinesium, but it has a ADAU1452. Same units as used in many expensive DSP (Helix DSP PRO has 2). I noticed they have refurbished units in their shop already. Not sure that's a good sign given that it's not a very old DSP yet.
    So going down the left it is BT radio, sample rate converter (ASRC), DSP (the ADAU1452), main CPU (STM32). ADC/DAC in the middle section, with the PSU on the right.
    Could probably increase the sample rates over 48kHz with improved ADC/DACs.
    Speculating, not a engineer, just someone who tries to do homework, etc. (i.e.I'm cheap 😄)
    I was interested in the 8ch, I don't need 12 at all, but the fact you mention it performs slightly worse tells me we're missing some shielding somewhere since components would probably be closer. Some of the high-end DSP I've seen have several voltage regulators to make sure voltages are always being regulated which would help reduce the noise, etc.
    I wonder if the layout is causing it not to match the Helix? The layout seems to be built off blocks, sort of pick from shopping list or catalogue. Might not have offered the best signal routing; something Brax/Helix would have spent more time on perfecting, I think.
    So for the 8ch it is like a worthy replacement for the old miniDSP C-DSP 6x8 especially considering price point (miniDSP 2nd hand often $250 these days).
    I hope they don't bump up the price on these. I see on their site the 12ch is "on sale" for $400, but marked down from $600.
    Thanks for your tests!
    So who is going to be my Secret Santa this year?

      Not to defend them but many brand and retailer would mark some inventory as "refurbished" as a way to lower the price without lowering the real MSRP or get in trouble with the brand MSRP rule. I bought many products labeled as "refurbished" at marked down price but practically brand new.

      Do you use an iPhone/iPad or Android smartphone/tablet???
      If you use Android, get a separate Audison B-con Bluetooth Receiver which supports LDAC and has both RCA Analog and Toslink optical outputs (including a Toslink In/Out pass-through). You can connect this directly into your DSP to bypass the POS OEM Toyota head unit (they really are terrible!).
      If you do this, you will need to make sure to Enable and go into the Developer Options of your Android device and change the Bluetooth settings to "Highest Quality" + 990kbps/900kbps. Otherwise the wireless BT connection will default to the lower 660kbps or even 330kbps, which are no better than the standard SBC or AAC BT codecs.
      The B-con BT receivers also have excellent signal strength and connection range!
      I have the Audison B-con BT receivers installed in TWO of my vehicles. I tested the first one in my home studio using my high end studio monitors. When the LDAC codec was used and set to Highest Quality & 990/900kbps, the Sound Quality was indistinguishable from a 100% Lossless hard-wired connection for 95% of music. And for the other 5%, it was extremely difficult to notice any differences at all...and that was in a Quiet studio environment, not while driving a car!
      OR, you can get the Axxess Interfaces # AXDSPX-TY3 OEM Interface and DSP complete with vehicle-specific T-harness.
      You can use this with your OEM head unit, OR install a good aftermarket head unit like the Kenwood eXcelon Reference DMX-1057XR, and the Axxess interface will retain the OEM your Steering Wheel Controls and other OEM features and functionality of the OEM head unit (confirm with Axxess Tech Support).
      You don't have to use the DSP that's in the Axxess interface if you already have a DSP. But the interface automatically reprograms the OEM Head Unit so that it will output a CLEAN, FLAT, FULL RANGE, RCA Line-Level audio signal and removes any of the factory processing in the head unit, and provides a set of Front, Rear, and Subwoofer output RCAs.
      Note that a high quality aftermarket head unit will still provide a higher quality audio signal, but the Axxess Interface will still improve the OEM audio signal by leaps & bounds.
      iDataLink Maestro RR might be another option that will retain all of the OEM head unit features if you replace the OEM head unit.
      Cheers

    The coil next to the power plug that you're calling a transformer actually looks like an inductor. It looks like a single loop of wire. This would probably be used for filtering noise coming into and going out of the 12v wire.
    The smaller coil actually looks like the transformer. It should have multiple different loops of wire and 4 or more solder joints to the board.

      I see them all the time in the better quality amplifier brands like Kicker and Rockford. Most of the cheapie, clone amplifiers don't have them.

      @JasonWW2000 Tony D'Amore sells amps with a patented technology called "Clean D" that is literally just a common mode choke and output filters. You see them on a lot of amps, as they are a cheap, effective way of cleaning up noise on the B+.

      @JasonWW2000 3 месяца назад

      @SeanOMatic Yes, I've seen them on those amps. (BTW, I think he does additional things besides just adding chokes)

      I think there’s a review of the Dayton on the ASR forum. Not sure so you’ll have to search it. I do know that the Dayton is very noisy. I helped a friend install one in his vehicle and tuned it for him. The Dayton actually runs on AC or DC and comes with the AC plug and transformer. Some people actually run it on AC in their vehicle with the addition of an inverter and say the noise issue improves significantly. The only other way around the noise issue that I know of is to have such a low level output that the noise becomes inaudible, but then you really sacrifice dynamics with the decrease in volume.

      @@JasonWW2000
      No, it isn't exclusive to HELIX. You can even do differential rear fill with some simple wiring tricks and an inexpensive ($40) pro audio mixer.
      However, I would propose that standard stereo rear fill with delay, reduced levels, and band-limited will be just as effective and will work properly with a wider variety of music.
      Depending on what tricks or EFX were applied to the music track during mixing by the engineer, differential rear fill can produce some very odd and undesirable effects.

      @bbfoto7248 Just to be clear, do you know what it is?

    $400 is a little much for, at best, a "B grade", DSP without a remote. One big point is its 4-volt max output. My HU is tested clean up to 5-volts. By using this it would be cut back to 4-volts, a 20% drop. The real budget king is the Hertz S8. Comparing this to the likes of Helix and Mosconi is laughable. Both have a build quality and level of refinement that is "light years" ahead of this.

    • @RAW-CAt
      @RAW-CAt  3 месяца назад +2

      Your mentioned S8 has the same 4V out, no remote as well, only half the EQ bands and no all pass filters. In the UK it's ~£550,for that price I would get a Helix. And we have no idea how clean it is🤷 I am not sure what is laughable about the comparison if I showed actual objective data that is comparable. I am co.paring the cleanliness and perfo.rnace, NOT functionality or software. And I don't actually remember mentioning Mosconni at all🤔

    • @666nacirema666
      @666nacirema666 3 месяца назад +1

      S8 uses the adau1451 d4s uses adau1452 as far as capabilities of the chips go there isnt much difference 1452 has more memory thats the only difference between the 2 chips. With the d4s 8 channels advertised clock speed I bet its got the 1450 which has less memory again and a 147.456 mhz clock speed. Also no spdif and a few other things.
      These are both good options though, depending on your needs one might be better than the other.
