It's a real honor just to be able to see your process and the joy you have in creating something so beautiful and majestic! Perfect music to enhance it all! Thanks for your videos!
I can’t tell you how glad I am that I’ve just found your channel and this video especially!! I’ve had an idea for a series of paintings, for 1 1/2 years, of self-portraits as a way to process trauma, etc, but I haven’t known HOW to bring the vision in my head, to life. YOU ROCK!!! Huge thank you, as I feel like if I watch this again and your other videos, that I can finally put my vision to canvas!!
What a great tutorial! Although I am not going to go out and try to duplicate your efforts, I found this video mesmerizing and instructive! Also, beautiful painting. I love all the little details, layers and products used to create this masterpiece. BRAVO!❤
Thank you! Not only is your creativity/painting fabulous but the technique info you share is amazingly generous and greatly appreciated! I have a BFA so I'm not new to the process yet I was stuck on a painting inspiration for over 4 yrs. The images that come are in bits and pieces but how to execute them? I had some techniques down but after viewing your video VOILA here is the foundation for the process to flow!!
I am in love with your techniques and talent. I had no idea it what this was called but it's what I've been dreaming of creating all my life but didn't get to start my art journey until I was 54! I'm going to start trying these techniques. Thanks so much for sharing You have a true artist soul :)
Sie sind so eine tolle Künstlerin. Vielen Dank für diese wundervollen Videos , ich kann gar nicht genug bekommen . Ihre Art zu malen gefällt mir sehr .
Lydia, I am in absolute awe of your talent. Watching this is like watching a magic show. From your acrylic inks tester canvas at the beginning, (which I think was awesome in itself!) to your finished painting, really beautiful work. Thank you so much for sharing your talent, experience, knowledge and patience with us. Its very much appreciated.
That was cool to watch. I was surprised how loose and painterly you were with it at the start and how it all came together. It looks amazing, great job :o)
I have been scrolling RUclips for days trying to find a tutorial that will teach me how to actually start my own piece. This video is so informative! Thank you! Your art is wonderful.
Beautiful and very informative … I “almost” feel like I understood some of it and could tackle painting someday .. you’re a great teacher on top of painter !❤
You are PHENOMINAL! This is exactly what ive been trying to figure out. Theres a beautiful mural in a cafe that ive been going to. I took pictures of it and ive been staring at it wondering how it was done. Thank you. You are an amazing artist. I wish i didnt waste so manybyears not using the gift i was given. I sure hope i can become as good as you some day.
Your tutorials are just what I've been looking for! I've been an artist for years, but with your tutorials, you're helping me fill in the blanks! Thank you!
This is spectacular wow you are incredibly talented. I absolutely LOVE this mixed media art. This is gorgeous. I need to see more of your work so it will help me embark on an easy beginning
You packed a lot of information in this video. I had no idea of using medium over my sketch. So awesome because I always lose some of my sketch. Can’t wait to try it out and hopefully save myself some time. I have to get some acrylic ink now as well. Also, I love the idea of water based spray paint! Didn’t realize they made that either. Also, really love the hanger for stencils too. Awesome and informative! Thank you for sharing.
Just lovely. Along the same vein of a previous comment this painting screams the Polynesian goddess Pele at me. The flowers remind me of plumeria that grows all over the Hawaiian Islands, the colours speak of lava, the black volcanic rock and the turquoise the Pacific Ocean. Stunning painting.
Wow. I missed this one when you shared it, but I'm glad I watched it tonight. Love the process, the colors, the different mediums & materials used, & the outcome. Simply awesome!
Thank you for explaining on how you determine your color pallet including the seasonal change. We moved from N.Y to Texas & the energy is a different animal. Poetry, art & music have saved my life. Thank you for sharing & rock on 💫
I love this video and I'm going to use your fabulous techniques for one of my paintings. I've already done the crow one, but used a magpie instead. Thanks Lydia. Love all your work!!
Love your work so much, you inspire the portrait artist in me, problem is that artist is hopeless 😂 I can draw ok, I think, but I just can't paint, however you make me feel like I might be able to, maybe, hopefully 🙄 Thank you for your tutorials 🙏👏👏👏👏
Salaams Sister, nice job informative we've learned a lot about mixed media with your vids. Thank you. Insha'Allah (When The CREATOR WILLS) we hope to share our work with others as well. Take care
great video, thank you for sharing your talent. Do you varnish? If yes, what kind and, most importantly, how. I looked through your videos and did not find this ( sorry, if I missed it). I in my personal opinion, it is one of the most important step in the whole process. Thank you in advance for your time.
Wow, thanks Lydia, love your process!! Thanks for the oil paint tips learned a lot today... Beautiful painting, as always love the mood, colours, etc, etc. Thanks for the weekly inspiration💋💖💜
I love this! After 20 yrs or so painting in oils, I'm going to jump in with both feet to acrylics. I don't remember much about them, but I've been watching your videos and others on the subject of Mixed Media. I've started a portrait of my son and when I finished the sketch (I don't draw directly to the canvas) I transferred it to the canvas by tracing and then transferring to canvas. As the canvas is black, I used white oil pastel on the back of the sketch so my tracing would show up on the black canvas. Now I realize that since my tracing is showing white on the black background that I have committed the cardinal sin of applying an oil-based medium that I intend to paint over with acrylics. Do you have any suggestions for me as to how I should proceed? I would appreciate any tips at all.
Love the in-depth study of your process ❤. The music was majestic, slightly Celtic--it sounded like spring! Although it didn't feel like spring when I walked outside earlier today...🥶🥶🥶. The painting is wonderful, beautifully abstract yet concrete. It's hard to believe you're a pro RUclipsr; you've built such an awesome body of work. 🙂
Awesome! I just stumbled across this channel and am so glad I did, very inspiring and super thorough tutorial, done in a succinct and clear way (with excellent lighting, sound & editing). I hope you get millions of subscribers, you deserve it! Cheers, Cat 😻
would love a complete mixed media portrait class with you! Have you ever thought about an online thourough class? Love this style and this was so imformative. Thank you!
I have thought about doing an online class.... I'm not sure how to go about doing that. Or what the best platform would be. I'll have to look into it.😊❤
A portrait artist alone is not an easy art medium. This is one I can only wish I possessed. This is absolutely stunning!!! I love creating art in various mediums. What is your or others opinion on using a stock or personal photo & add it to your piece, while designing in & around it? She looks so similar to how I looked in my younger years.
First of all if you looked like her... You must be beautiful!!! Secondly, do you mean using a persona/stockl photo as a reference or collaging it into the painting itself like a decoupage scenario? I'm sorry for the delayed response... I sometimes don't see all comments right away.❤
Today is my Lucky Day. The algorithms brought your channel to my feed! I’m a semiretired jazz musician exploring a second life in visual art and I’m totally hooked! This is what I’ve been missing?? Yes, I’ll take some! I just wanted to write to thank you for your clear explanations, your tips and generosity and most of all, most of ALL, your Talent. Watching you play (both literally and figuratively) opened up so much for me. Visual improvisation is as exciting as musical improv and like hearing a singer scat for the first time I have been given permission so to speak to join the band! Many many thanks, Lydia. I just subbed and I’m singing your praises to all my creative neighbors! 🎉
@@wileycom Thank you so very much!!! That was such a lovely comment to read! I have found most jazz musicians to be really upbeat and positive ( my dad is a jazz drummer). Anyway, I appreciate the kind words and stay creative!!!❤🤗

Best tutorial ever!! Absolutely love the finished painting. Thanks for all the great info ❤
Stunning, I loved every bit of it.
LOL. You will always be the artist who says “turkwahs” instead of “turquoise” (rhymes with ‘tur-noise). I LOVE this painting!
