Textured Painting

Hello friends! It's been a while since I worked with texture, and I was getting the itch to create a textured painting. In this video I take you through the process of creating a distressed background using acrylics on a textured canvas and then painting a subject with oil paint. This is a layered process that I have used many times to create a vintage effect. If you are interested in the in-de...
Monochrome Painting Process "October Moon"
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.Месяц назад
Hello friends! This week I am taking you through my painting process. This painting is called "October Moon" and I used one of my favorite methods... Black and white on a black canvas. I don't know why I love black canvas so much, but I do. This painting took longer than usual as I used oils from start to finish and I had to let layers dry before moving on. I think it has a somewhat mysterious ...

I hope you enjoy the video and let me know what your favorite way to paint a portrait is! If you want to see the full video on mixing skin tones with a limited palette, ...

Realistic Hummingbird Painting

Hello friends! Meet Gumdrop! This is a painting of our little hummingbird friend based off of a photo that my fiancé took. I really loved the photo because of the sunset colors reflected off of her iridescent feathers. I am really going to miss our feathered friend, but fall approaches and they will soon be embarking on their long journey south. It makes me a little sad. Anyway, I hope you enjo...
Painting a Rose in Acrylics// Abstract Background
Просмотров 3 тыс.2 месяца назад
Hello everyone!!! Today I'm painting a rose on an abstract background. I am not a floral artist... Infact, I usually avoid painting flowers. However, I have recently wanted to up my flower game in order to incorporate these blooming buds of wonder into some of my concepts. Honestly, painting flowers has always seemed a little boring to me. So, in order to make it more interesting, I thought "Ly...
Black and White Painting// Portrait
Просмотров 3 тыс.3 месяца назад
Hello Everyone!!! This video is really my process for creating a black and white portrait painting. Sometimes I find color too distracting and prefer to concentrate on value and form. I think this painting would lose some of its moodiness if it was in color. What do you think?

Queen of Hearts Portrait// Frida Kahlo
Просмотров 3,4 тыс.5 месяцев назад
Hello friends!!! Time for an epic Queen of Hearts/Frida Kahlo portrait! I have been wanting to do this concept for a very long time, but wasn't sure about how I wanted the composition to look. I think it ended up being a very cool painting, but a challenging one. Things tend to go less smoothly when I don't have a solid concept sketch established. However, I think it happened the way that it wa...
Monochrome Painting... Thoughts on Canvas and Unlocking Your Potential
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Hello everyone! Do you ever feel as though you are waging an internal war with yourself? Trying to fight against the wave of negativity that threatens to engulf you at any moment? This is a visual representation of the prison that we create for ourselves with just our negative self-talk and how I started an inner dialog to overcome my own self-doubt. Maybe you can relate? If you are interested ...
Mixed Media Painting of "The Thinker" (A Modern Day Twist)
Просмотров 2,5 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Hello everyone!!! Ok... I decided to turn the famous statue "The Thinker" by Auguste Rodin into a mixed media painting with a modern twist. Yeah... I focused on the social media component of modern-day life. Mainly because I have had moments of falling into what I refer to as a scroll hole. You know... That time suck that happens when you start scrolling through reels or RUclips shorts and befo...
Mixed Media Collage Painting

Hello! I have been really busy lately working on some new art. This mixed media collage piece is a concept that I have been working on for a while now. I love the addition of words in my art, but it can be a challenge to find enough of the right words that I'm looking for in newspapers. The size often isn't ideal. So, I end up collecting over a period of time and then taking stock of my word st...
Mixed Media Lion Painting Process

Hello and welcome to this mixed media lion painting process video! I had a terrible migraine throughout this entire painting and didn't actually think the painting was any good until the migraine finally went away. It was probably due to the blurred vision and the seething rage that was bubbling just below the surface of my usually composed being. For some reason, migraines never put me in a go...

Artist Must Have!!! ZenArt Miniature Brush Review. @ZenARTSupplies
I love your sense of humor and the way you express yourself thru your paintings your very articulate your passion is clearly reflected in your art 🎨 ❤
I just ordered some. I have to say they went up in price because I didn't even order all the colors I wanted - cadmium's are super expensive. I'm just gonna "collect them all" over the next few months and in the meantime I will experiment with the 6 colors I got. Don't have black! But my order is on its way to me. Thanks for your bird tutorial
Holy cow!
You’re very talented, and love your humor..this is very cool
Thank you!!❤
Wonderful!
Beautiful! I sometimes use texture, your video reminds me to use it again, thanks!
Wow just wow! I'm trying my first black and white portrait tomorrow. Going off of a picture of my niece. On black canvas as well. Wish me luck! And love your work!!!!!!
Thank you and Good luck!!! I'm sure your painting will be awesome!
Adulting is hard! Ageing is not for the faint of heart! Love your work! 💕 Thank you for your commentary.
I was thinking you were being irreverent… And then I realized, you did change your name, dye your hair and move away! I guess we both did… High school can do that, even to the parent. Love that texture and that David.😀❤️
Thanks mom!❤❤❤
Sooooo cooool. Love it❤
Thank you!!!❤
Love love love your work! May I ask where you got that stencil?
Thank you! I got it from Amazon.
Fantastic, thanks very much Lydia. xx
I am obsessed with this type of art. Simply wow wow wow❤
Sei fantastica!👏👏🤗❤️
Love the textures, great at making a piece get instant energy and interest. Still something I need to work on 🤦🏻♀️ The David image works very well with the surface, well done, I wondered how it would work on the textured surface! 👌🏻🎨💜

Wow! ?The portrait is beautiful, most faces are not symmetrical. Hell, my whole body........never mind. I can't draw a box so watching people create is amazing.
It's beautiful, I love your sense of humor
Wow! That turned out beautifully! Question: You used the glue all and titainium white as cell activator. But what did you mix with the paint? Just water? Thank you in advance for your help! ~ Subbed! 🎉❤
Just water.😊
I love your art and really appreciate you sharing your techniques. So helpful! Do you worry about the lightfastness ratings or all your different mediums?
Thank you and to answer your question, mostly yes. 😊
It’s beautiful ❤
I love the finished product, but love it even more after watching your process.
Beautiful 🥰🥰
I am so inspired by your work, absolutely efin awesome
I just found you and realize this is an old video, but, I just didn't know of another place better than here to tell you. I've been an artist since the 60's. I paint in every genre and format other than abstract. I find this strange because I'm also a retired "Faux" painter/artist and what you're creating on canvas, I'm creating throughout my entire home. Watching you makes me wonder why I've never done so on canvas. You young lady have influenced me to do so. Your craft is absolutely wicked and beautiful. I look forward to viewing the rest of your videos.
Dry informative video 🌹thank you so much♥
It turner out so cool. We need not to stop in ugly stage
I am so sorry for your loss.. Thank you for sharing your soul with us 🙏🏻💔
I don't usually like cherub art/statues for some reason, but this, i would absolutely hang in my home. It's beautiful. The colours, the texture, technique etc makes it look very modern with the classical image ❤
The video production was exceptional (although I missed hearing your voice!) But, as for the art?....Breathtaking. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Well, they got one thing right. You are an amazing artist. Please don't let that person's comment dull your light. I love your videos BECAUSE of your personality, especially the funnier ones where your inner monologue grabs the wheel. When I'm having a bad day, I will put your videos on because I know I'll learn something, and you'll make me laugh. I have friends like you in the Midwest - fun, zany, upbeat, creative. I have struggled to find them since I moved to Georgia. When I watch your videos, it makes me feel closer to them. I've even sent friends your videos and said, "I love her!" and they've commented back, "I love her, too!" You may not be everyone's cup of tea, but you're some of our shot of whiskey. Which is funny because I drink tea almost exclusively. So I guess you are my cup of tea. Okay, I think my point took a cigarette break. Let me bring it back. You are a fantastic painter and a funny, genuine, endearing person. I watch you because of your personality ( and skills, of course. You make me a better painter. Was that too Jerry McGuire?). Please don't change or water yourself down for anyone.
Awesome tip using the watercolour to sketch!!! Clever lady. Thanks for sharing :)
Wonderful! Your work is outstanding and I love how you speak and teach at the same time❤❤❤❤
Beautiful❤❤❤
Love the painting and the hat Lydia. Thank you.😻
I use caulking paste, and before it dries I put colored sand or crushed rocks…try it tell me what you think 🤔…love your art
I struggle with the nose just srartong doing this sort of painting
Beautiful!
Great paintings! However, I found that the B/W underpainting makes the whole image darker (because of the heavy black underneath) and less vivid. In my opinion, it is better to use underpainting of a color such as Burnt Umber. Thanks for your videos!
