Mixed Media Painting// Building Layers

  • Hello friends!
    It is officially winter here in the Northeast and wolves have been on my mind. So, I decided to create a mixed media painting with a wolf as the subject. This is one of my favorite ways to create a painting. Combining abstract techniques with a focal point creates something unique a beautiful, but the layers are what makes it so. This painting has a bit of everything; Using different tools like squeegees, foam rollers, and palette knives to create a variety of textural interest. Collage, stencils, spray paint, acrylic paint and finally oil paint create a painting that has interest and depth. It's all about the layers!
    I hope you enjoy the video! Links to my materials below!

    I adore wolves. They’re one of my favourite animals. When I lived in Canada’s northwest territory my husband and I went snowmobiling one evening under a full moon and the northern lights. They reflect nicely off the snow giving you an ethereal glow that allows you to see quite well even though it’s pitch black. We stopped at the edge of a lake to watch an entire pack of 11 wolves playing on the ice in the middle of the lake under the full moon. Talk about surreal. It was one of the most beautiful sights I’ve ever seen and a memory I will always treasure. I wish I could paint it but I’m afraid my forte is music and not drawing. I can’t even draw a straight line with a ruler. This painting is just wonderful and the blues, purples and grey/black remind me of the lighting that night.

      Thank you Chanda! What a beautiful description of your time in Canada. That sounds so magical. I always think of wolves in the winter. It was cold and had just snowed when I painted my wolf. Truly atmospheric for the subject.❤

    Love predators, just have always had an alignment with them, primarily wolves, Cheetahs and our aerial predators, eagles, falcons, crows, etc
    So love the mood you created with colour and marks, it totally compliments the wolf❤. Oil really does finish off pieces to a beautiful quality...
    Would love to support you on Patreon, even the other artists I subscribe to, unfortunately the South African currency is in the toilet. Hopefully I will be able to do that this year still 😁. My sincere wish is that it surpasses your naughtiest expectations.

    • @lydiabroderick867

    • @lydiabroderick867
      @lydiabroderick867  7 месяцев назад +2

      I think it depends on your process. I sketch directly onto the canvas sometimes, but I tend to sketch out ideas on paper first. Once I've done all the work, it seems like a chore to do it again on canvas... So, I use transfer paper. It also cuts down on the pencil marks.😊
