      I think friendships can happen organically if you genuinely click with someone at work. There's nothing wrong with that. I have friends that I've known for over 10 years that I used to work with. It's not impossible and everybody's not out to stab you in the back, but I do get where you're coming from.

    I can't tell you how many times I've come across Black American women in management who behave in ways that make me question how they got the job. Many Black people think they should get a pass when they don't do their jobs or are challenging to deal with interpersonally at work. We need to take a good, long look at ourselves, get into counseling/therapy (because many of us need it), and show up to work in a space of cooperation, kindness, and knowledge. We don't often show up like that.

    • @theantihr

      Black people, especially Black American people are deeply traumatized thanks to white supremacy and living in a systemically racist environment. All roads lead to white supremacy! We are the not the only ones who need deep healing but we must pursue it. We need to interrogate how we deal with the racist environment we have been placed into for hundreds of years and the reality of how it impacts how we treat each other in every aspect of life.

    Had a situation happen where a white male top manager had a black female supervisor bring down a BW who had worked there 35 years and was in her fifties. Messed up her retirement by demoting her and then eventually making her retire with the threat if she didn’t would be fired. Messed her money all the way up as if she had never worked 35 years in government!

I worked very well with black men, though. However, I mostly always had great working relationships with Phillipinos. Some of those working relationships turned into friendships 🙂.

    I've worked at my job for 24 years and for the majority of the 24 years, I worked with 4 oustanding sistahs. Two have moved on to new jobs or retired, and 2 of us are still there. The thing I believe kept us so tight and together was that we all agreed that whatever happens among us stays with us, and if we had a problem amongst our group we talked about it and we worked through it. It was great. Our goal was to never let anyone outside of our core group cause any trouble between us. I believe our manager, who was a black woman, set that tone early on, to stick together. It was and still is very effective.

However, I am so glad to see a black woman put out excellent professional advice that I I am sure would have benefited me 20 years ago in corporate. I decided I didn't want to play the game and went out on my own and never looked back. We also need to talk about how class and respectability play into this. Many black people don’t like other black people that don’t present (dress, speech, social niceties, etc.) in a way that they deem as professionally acceptable for others as it relates to black people. There can definitely be an elitism if you did not come from the right professional pipeline or choose to be more assertive or less of the “smile and work” type in the workplace. Don’t speak up or rock the boat. If you aren’t performing “acceptable blackness” (whatever that is to them) you garner their antagonism.

      HR is a very stressful kind of work to do. That’s why people bounce around. Also many times early in your career you think that if you moved to another place, they will allow you to do what you really signed up for which is to help employees because you still don’t understand that that’s not what the function was designed to do. Many people try to do the right thing until they find that they can’t and they bounce around and then eventually they leave that area of work altogether. Ask me how I know?

    Im a huge advocate of just not participating in their racist system by becoming entrepreneurs.
    When i see people like letitia james and fani willis, i see the beenfits having blk women in position of power.
    Do you mind sharing your take? It seems like you are okay with them being in these racist, Unappreciative environments, but make sure when they do wrong you make sure you sue. If you dont mind, id love to know overall how you advise blk women.
    Thanks for what you do. Im someone who left and im now 15 years self employed and happy, but open to learning how to naviagte this toxicity if they stay, because i personally did not see a way to stay and thrive

    So many of these stories and believe it's not the end of them. Can we appeal to the perpetrators frpm a point of empathy to come forward, even anonymously. Im really trying to understand why these women behave in this toxic manner against other women.

    Although I understand the overall spirit of this video message, this is one-sided from the perspective of the black person (particularly the black woman inbthis case) being the villanous manager. However, there needs to be a follow-up video in terms of disrespectful black subordinates when a black person is put in leadership positions. Workplaces also use these dynamics to discredit these (black) leaders while also using the results of these antics as excuses for denying them career advancement.

    • @theantihr
      @theantihr  6 месяцев назад +24

      Insubordinate employees come in all shapes, sizes and races, and having an insubordinate employee is not an excuse for targeting people who look like you in furtherance of white supremacy and white proximity seeking.

    • @dontez606
      @dontez606 6 месяцев назад +6

      @@theantihr I never said nor implied anything about the justifying targeting behavior. I'm simply stating that this dynamic also works in the reverse where the goal of upper management is to discredit the (black) person in charge and challenge their acuity for any type of leadership position.

      This is a nonsensical statement. It may be your experience, but you can’t speak for everybody’s experience. I wouldn’t be where I am today without black women. They have saved me over and over again starting with my mother. So there will be no black women slander in my comments. Are some of us allowing ourselves to be used by white supremacy yes but so is everybody else? There is definitely sisterhood and I wouldn’t be where I am without it.

    I didn't know about the one in essence, that is upsetting, I never read that but I listen to Amanda Seals podcast. she is my tribe she's Biracial, but I have a white mom and she has a black mom ... so to me they really need to stop. Her mom and her dad is black, they need to leave her alone she's definitely 1 of us. Haven't we evolved further than this people like it's so petty come on.

    • @theantihr
      @theantihr  3 месяца назад +1

      Amanda Seales is not biracial. Both of her parents are black. She has said this so many times just because someone is light skin doesn’t mean they’re biracial. But whether she’s biracial or not how she was treated in this instance was very unfair.
