    This was so refreshing to hear!
    I’ve always taken this position…because this is true!
    I too was introduced to this phenomenon by another African-American who was looking for brownie points from management by attempting to throw me under the bus..only to have it backfire on her later down the road.
    Proximity to whiteness is such an excellent way of presenting this issue!🎉🎯💯🙌🏾👌🏾

    We are racially showcased. As someone who’s been in a leadership role in corporate America for 15 years, the black person in charge has no power. Fail to keep that in mind, and it will cost you

    • @theantihr
      @theantihr  Год назад +45

      I don’t agree that you don’t have power. You just don’t have as much power as they do. I was in corporate for many years, and I used my power to advance the careers of other Black people. That’s a kind of power, and too many of us are afraid to use the power that we have. But there is no point in having power if you are unwilling to use it to benefit those who need it. So I don’t agree with the idea that you don’t have any power because you do. You just have to be willing to use it even if it cost you.

    It’s refreshing to type in the subject to the search 🔍 bar and find a first generation West Indian American making this point 👏 .
    I do believe my upbringing gives me a sense of double consciousness because my ancestors were colonized in a different paradigm.
    My social experiences are also shaped spiritually through the lenses of my ancestors. Although I experience an American reality, the double consciousness we have (as islanders) does bring out various aspects of our own experiences into daily work/life.
    The stream of consciousness that you discussed I agree with ! 💯 🗣️ #subscribed

    Excellent. I worked in the international development field and even though I am African, I grew up with pan-African and pro black parents. Black Racism is the cornerstone of the hierarchy all over the world. People mirror the dominant culture which is about someone is on the top and someone is on the bottom by showing brute force, bullying, abuse, exploitation or even teasing. In these organizations, I noticed because I had grown up and understood these dynamics from a young age and also took courses in university and law school in these structures, I was often the victim of Africans and Brown peoples bullying me in these organizations because I refused to play the proximate to white games. They called me an Afro-Centric African. Because truly they didn’t understand the unconscious nature of these systems even in the context of majority African employees.
    Peculiarly enough African Americans in Africa in these organizations, preferred to align themselves with the dominant power structures and they would then bully the African locals and those they felt were darker than themselves.
    Also, many Africans in West Africa do not know their history. They have stories they have been told about their bloodline. Like many African-Americans think they have Native American blood and this is not true, many West Africans were taken into slavery and then returned back to the continent or stayed in the country they were taken to. Because a lot the history has been so traumatic many would need to take a DNA test to understand. The colonizers didn’t need to enslave Africans by taking them abroad, because it was cheaper to keep them on the continent have them work and steal their resources. So Africans who think they are better, need to think again. King Leopold of Belgium, enslaved and killed millions of Congolese for their resources.

    Know what your talking about. Got that type of not like others talk. People create a hierarchy chain and don’t even realize it. A persons further proximity, validates oppression from somebody with a closer one, an other with an even closer proximity validates them looking down on & oppressing you. Towards a divide and conquer, keep each other in check hierarchy. Being against instead of unifying. People who are new to the country, culture are more impressionable & seek inclusion. And it would take some time to figure out why I don’t hold any bad will at them. That used to be me.
