I wish I had known this about 30 years ago. I always thought, I had to do more or do better. My health suffered and I couldn't figure out the problem. This video puts it all in perspective. I used to feel shame about my situation. Thanks to your videos, I now see there's nothing, I could have done. Thanks You.
I’m Native and my boss was uncomfortable around me when I wore my indigenous jewelry and showed my indigenous self. Racism was definitely underneath her behavior.
It's like you are describing my whole working enviroment/experience for the last 2 years! Thank you. I needed to hear this. It's hard when you are being ostracized and knowing HR is not your friend and there is no one to speak to on these issues. I've been through hell and back. Been treated for severe depression, stress and anxiety because of this toxic workplace. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to just change jobs because of my age and other family commitments. My faith in God has really pulled me through on this. It's especially hard dealing with racial discrimination and unfair labour practise based on prejudice.

@@lester2588 she has a video titled “Things You Should Never Do When Reporting a Discrimination Claim to human resources(HR)” & several other videos that might have helped you prior to your resignation. You’re off that job now, right? If so/not, take your time and view each and every video for current/future positions. Also: I’m still watching her videos, but IF I’m not mistaken, the compensation should’ve been discussed prior to your resignation letter and therefore would’ve or could’ve been a statement of actual compensation to be awarded rather than a request. Anyway, look to her vids and get her book and other resources from her website. Hopefully you’re in a new job & it’s working out!
You’re speaking the truth. Unfortunately for me their racism is ingrained even into our own kind and we act it out on one another which in my situation it was my own kind ganging up on me using their discriminatory behavior they’ve learned from them folks.
Same here. In my case it was a group of young Black girls. I thought, this can't be. I thought I have to be wrong about this. Thanks to the HR Lady, I now see what happened to me.😢
This is a wonderful channel because it really does add a practical voice to everything I WISHED someone would have told me or spoken up on. I walked away from places I really wanted to stay...just to preserve my sanity. And, many times...I wasn't there long enough to collect severance pay. Nonetheless, I recall a time that I was discriminated against by both Black & White.
Same. And recruiters and hiring managers are so judgmental about “job hopping”. Protecting yourself from racist workplace abuse by leaving as soon as you can is “rewarded” by getting your resume tossed for not letting them abuse you for 2+ years.
I held on long enough to be laid off with my full benefits package (severance, vacation payout, etc.). The experience especially with the last group was a nightmare from the beginning. They were openly hostile and I only went to HR to make sure there was a paper trail that I tried to handle things internally. I still have no real idea why I was targeted outside of their making every attempt to take credit for my ideas and work. I also suspected racism as I am mixed and was the only black person on the team. I had to process so much trauma after leaving and still have to play nice on social media and take being laid off properly from my near 20 year career as consolation. By the time the end finally came I was in anguish and white knuckling it to get through each week. Everything you described happened the whole time I worked there (working like a dog and doing work well above my paygrade without the commensurate promotions) but they never say the words that let you know why they're doing what they're doing. It just happens and leaves nothing for you to point to as proof you're being discriminated against.
My manager even came to me saying she has a black friend and listens to black music. The most racist mess I’ve heard come out of someone’s mouth. The part B of those statements irritates my soul because of the high level of insulting my intellect. Again, this is what I’ve witnessed. They are offended and I can’t wait to get the hell out of here. My stomach hurts just thinking about going to work tomorrow. They feel like we should just be glad to be here in this crazy mess. You are giving so many women therapy and knowledge with your videos.
What’s the playbook to having success and longevity? Ignore hostility unless ready to exit? Keep engagement with colleagues to a bare minimum? Don’t respond to company surveys? From what I’ve seen, the ones who get anywhere seem to drink the Kool-aid, are shrewd, and maintain minimum visibility.
You’re absolutely right, but dealing with public employers get be even more horrific and nightmarish due laws, codes and unions(?)-ie School Districts, Federal Employees etc.
Thank you for all the great advice and keeping us informed. My heart goes out to the employees going through these stressful situations on their jobs. God is good. Keep the faith people.
I had a young lady tell our boss she didn’t have to speak to me because I thought I was better than her.😮. It was very toxic. Got him on recording saying he don’t if she do or don’t.
Your videos have been appearing on my RUclips algorithm lately and I love love love the work you do and advocacy. I agree with most of the things you say. However, in my experience, racism is not a disease. What happened is that most black people do the work and learning about race. At some point in our lives, we had to teach ourselves about our racial identity and how to navigate this world. While most white people don't care and do not do the work at all. On the contrary, they are very content and more than happy to maintain a system that oppresses others at the detriment of other races. So, it's more of a choice and not a mental illness.
As a white person, I am ashamed that we have discriminated against people of color. It is my belief that this country was founded on racism, which started with Native Americans. I would very much like to know what I can do to purge this racism from me. I feel like I am a nice person but I understand what you are saying that it is ingrained in us. I was raised by a racist bigot in the 80’s and I’m happy to report that I haven’t spoken to him in almost 20 years. He was a tyrant and traumatized us immensely. I say that to say if anyone wants to have a conversation with me about it and what I can do to support African Americans better. If I have intruded here I deeply apologize. 💜💜💜
You have not intruded, but you also should not be asking us to tell you what to do. Google is free - go do the work to educate yourself and then do the right thing. It is not our job to teach you or tell you what to do. If you want to be anti-racist there are lots of books that you can read that will help you. Good luck and Godspeed.
What do you do when it’s the other race and your own race that is mainly against you because of your work ethic own black peoples setting obstacles for you hmmm
Do you have a phone number that you give out? I'd like to speak with you about how to handle pursuing legal action if you've retired because of discrimination.
I just started listening to you. You are a wealth of info. I retired on disability over 14 years ago. I had a lawyer because I was discriminated against and lied on. He didn't give me an option of sueing My agency. The atty for my agency asked me to sign a form saying that I wouldn't sue, I refused. I'm upset that the atty I had never told me I should sue. I've used up my pension and have to have my doctor sign forms every 3 years.

@@lester2588 I see it as peace either way. If I find a lawyer and get help then sure I'll continue but I'm not trying to stress over it.
If you resigned your job and then ask for compensation, they’re not going to give it to you. That’s not the way you get them to pay.
