      Oh my goodness I venture to say that MILLIONS of us do not know that there were 18 other black people on the team with Jesse Owens and two of them are women? Jackie Robinson had an elite athlete as a brother Mack? I feel so ignorant. Ugh ashamed to only know most of my history from movies.😟

    Side note : we can never under-estimate the amount Nazi Germany studied the Jim Crow South for formulating their world view.

    “A violence of forgetting” =violence of elimination. That’s why critical race theory is relevant. Why we must document our story.

    • @chrishale5213
      @chrishale5213 3 года назад +5

      And it goes beyond "Critical Race Theory" which is simply a school of understanding. Black History, black anthropology, sociology. All of these things are touch points of emphasis. Republicans have labelled Critical race theory the catch all for all our history. We must insist all of our history be taught to our children.

    Prof Hunter, I've just ordered my copy of Deborah Riley Draper's book Olympic Pride, American Prejudice and I already have my copy of the book Dr Carr showed later on in the lecture, Haiti Fights back.
    I got that book because the author Yveline Alexis was recommended to me by her sister in Clubhouse in a Haitian room the day after President Jovenel Moise was assassinated. We were in that room for hours speaking on the topic and trying to get more knowledge and I shared with the room the lecture you had with Dr Carr on Haiti.
    Every time I go in there I'm spreading the lectures to ALL the Black people in the diaspora, Nigerians, Black Americans and more. I'm telling them about Knarrative and it's pinned on my Clubhouse profile for everyone to see.
    Anyway, this lecture today was dope because I'm going to school the people in my workplace who don't know the history of prejudice against African people in the Olympics.
    Thank you.
    Peace out from London, and see you on Twitter.

    Karen and Greg thoroughly enjoyed today's lesson. Especially enjoyed Deborah Riley Draper section about the Olympics. Greg, I'm old enough to remember the Carlos and Smith display of Black pride and solidarity as it happened in 1968. I remember the fear I felt for their safety. I remember how the Detroit papers and sports writers destroyed them in print and vowed to make them pay for what they did. One of my favorite photos of all time is the photo of Carlos and Smith with raised fists.

      I had such be pride in those men. It is a moment that I value like when Mandela was finally freed from prison. Good afternoon Classmates and Professors. I had difficulty finding us today - but got in without missing too much(I hate it when the app updates itself and rearranges my stuff.)

    55:49... I have to cut this off. Tears are falling. This place has directly and indirectly traumatized me and others more than any collective can ever reason with. I can't even hear her answer.
    Thank you. ❤
    I trust my soul.
