@@21initials sometimes its not a choice! HBCUs are to expensive for some of us who dont live in the same state as the college without scholarships of some sort.

@@21initials as well as the fact that some primary education schools don't educate students about HBCU's. When I was getting ready to graduate though I fluctuated between the top 1-5 of the highest GPA's in my graduating class it wasn't shared what was considered the best black colleges or universities we should attend as an option. Though I always wanted to attend Dillard University I never knew it was a HBCU the choices that were pushed was another HBCU I didn't know of was SUNO Southern University of New Orleans or Delgado Community College...I was was also a big fan of UCLA yet I wasn't steered in any of those directions because if I didn't get a scholarship it wouldn't have made a difference. The only academic scholarship I was offered didn't even cover my entire tuition yet it was to a school I had never knew existed Johnson & Wales University which I soon found was one of the top schools for culinary arts and hospitality. I did however missed out on all I wanted my college experience to be...til this day. I was oblivious to everything until I started doing my own research and figuring out for myself what was beyond my neighborhood and the choices they said I had. Now I know and was very upset once I found out all of the HBCUs in Louisiana that could have been within my reach.

I graduated from a specialized High School and earned plenty of AP credits, however when the time came to apply the guidance counselor overlooked any request for information on HBCU opportunities and in fact, told us we were limiting ourselves. Honestly, it's the fox watching the chicken coup.

OMG, I cant wait until next week. My granny (great grandmother, fathers side) survived the July 1917 race riot in East St. Louis. The stories I heard growing up was like the gates of hell were unleashed on East St. Louis for those 3 days. Hundreds of men, women and children murdered in cold blood. I love the conversations here.. I saw both movies about Ms Franklin and I remember Ms Franklin's first name for wanting to portray her it was Halle Berry, what some don't like is the story behind the Queen of Soul, She was very protective of her private life and I understand that but when you decide you'd like a movie about your life to go public unless you're directing and being a part of every decision made your secrets will come out and it doesn't take away from your contribution to the world or your God given gifts. In truth no one can replace The Queen of Soul but both ladies brought something to their movies, I preferred Jennifer over Cynthia but not because Ms Orivo isn't American I just think Respect was more of a movie and the other was a mini series that kinda was all over the place, Ms Franklin's life was MESSY and beautiful and dark and what some people have issue with is the telling of who her Dad was outside of the alter and the many influential gospel artist that participated in the foolery that went on the Saturday before church. You can't gloss over a 12 yr old girl getting pregnant while touring with her preacher father and then again at 14 yrs old you just can't ignore that,
