  • "Save me, Joe Louis...save me, Joe Louis...save me, Joe Louis!"
Today is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s actual birthday. Dr. Greg Carr takes us through the words of King and what he thought about the country, this world and African people. Also, there is a tie-in to Patrice Lumumba and what is happening in Barbados with Mia Motley. "The Women of the Movement" on ABC is also discussed. #WomenoftheMovement #EmmettTill #MLK

I'm a Knarrative/Knubia member. I missed the live lecture but realize why our own community need to process & connect is crucial. Because, baybee!!! "Save me, Joe Louis", has wrecked me. I've paused to cry this out; I'm writing here for my sanity & to share with other family who are learning/witnessing. 1:06:04-1:07:17 is utterly heartbreaking.

Dr. Caar, so true in your remarks regarding B’dos PM Mia Amor Mottley and her calling of the swift election -which comes up on Wednesday Jan 19th,, Of course she’ll emerge as winner. Her vision is global and her vision includes greater connection with Africa and its diasporan families. So far she has broadened alliance with Kenya and Ghana and continues to reach out across the continent. I’m sure the leaders of the so-called international community doesn’t take too kindly to such overtures. Regardless, her presence on the global stage has given the global south a voice long overdue, and sadly lacking -especially since the passing of Caribbean leaders of the independence era of the 1960s and early 1970s.

Thanks be to TMH God for you Prof. Hunter and Dr. Carr for having this conversation!!👏🏾👏🏾
Today we celebrate our ancestor, Dr. Martin Luther King for his brilliance and foresight!
This brother saw the injustices his people faced then, as stated in his "Give Us The Ballot" speech!
That speech speaks today as it did all those years ago!!
It's like his wisdom comes across the miles to hit us smack dead in the face and here we're again, sadly!!
May this ancestor Rest Easy in Eternal Peace!
It's like I hear him saying, "we shall overcome". Yet, the question remains when? And, are we to wait for them to tell us when?
I'm as mad as a dog about all the uncertainity/insanity we're faced with as a people waiting on this 'structure' to right their wrongs!!
Thank you, Prof. Hunter (tall glass of clean water) for the wisdom you bring ... "we'll step to the side and strategize and come together, country to country and create the world we want to live in"!! Well said, sis!!👏🏾👏🏾
That right there is our hope and best recourse since we know that being the patriarchal power that it is/has been, the 'structure' that is America'll NEVER put a female on the front of ANY of its coins!
    Stay blessed, y'all!!💯

So I'm just getting to this episode and I experienced Dr. Carr's lament the ancestors know what they're doing. The weekend of this episode I was visiting an older cousin of mine who attended Tuskegee in the 60's and we were having a conversation about MLK. I mentioned that I was re-reading The Mis-Education of the Negro. He showed me a picture of him and some of his classmates that met the marchers as they crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge. He talked about meeting Daniel "Chappie" James Jr. while he was at Tuskegee and then he talked about his classmate Wendell Paris who was a member TIAI and SNCC, he then became the driving force in the Federation of Southern Cooperatives in Mississippi an organization that fought for the rights for black farmers, filing lawsuits, engaging in the fight on the frontline. It truly was a refreshing experience. I say all that to say this(In my Dr. Carr voice) Learning our history from the elders who lived it just hit different. Thank you Dr. Carr and Professor Hunter for all the educational energy y'all put out there it has truly changed how I look at and experience life's interactions,I no longer have conversations I have oral study sessions.

As Africans we must honour two of our great leaders and that’s Baba Martin Luther King and Baba Patrice Lumumba.
Both of them put their lives on the line for fighting for our freedom justice and equality against injustice and inequality.
Baba Martin Luther King one thing I oppose of him he was getting our people to turn the other cheek. Not Baba Patrice Lumumba he never encouraged us to do that.
