Great Job Professor Hunter& Dr. Carr . I will always cherish having the opportunity meeting Mrs. Hamer as a college student. There are some individuals who leave an indelible mark on society, Mrs. Hamer was that person. Great class and discussion as always Dr. Carr and Prof. Hunter. When the name of Sheriff Cecil Price was mentioned, I recalled an ESPN 30 for 30 that I recently rewatched: "The Best That Never Was". It's a documentary on Marcus Dupree who was arguably the greatest high school football prospect in the country during the early 1980's. He was out of Philadelphia, Mississippi and was very good friends and teammates with Cecil Price Jr. Marcus Dupree talked about how he was accepted by the Price family. As a matter of fact Cecil Price Sr. helped Dupree obtain a CDL to establish his trucking career after football. Here is the part that really shouted out to me SOCIAL STRUCTURE ; there was a feeling that Marcus' football exploits in Philadelphia, Mississippi brought the races together. Black and white sitting in the crowd together cheering on their beloved Philadelphia Tornadoes. "Who are Africans to other people".
My grandfather was a native of Barbados and I know he would’ve been elated to know they are getting their independence. He came to the US in the early 1900s from Barbados only to experience Jim Crow.
