Brother ScanNCut Tips & Tricks - Resticking Your Mats

  • In this short tutorial, I show you a couple of tips and tricks for resticking your Brother Scan and Cut mats. First, I show you how I use Two-Way Glue to restick the mats. This is the fastest, cheapest and easiest method of resticking the mats which I use. Then, I show a more time consuming method of covering the mat with tape while you spray it with low tack spray or stencil spray. This method works but it is very messy and time consuming. Then, I show you how I cut apart a Cricut mat and used StickIt to adhere it to my ScanNCut mat. This method works great but it is time consuming and actual makes your mat too sticky at first. Also, Cricut mats may be cheaper than SNC mats but you still don't want to sacrifice one of each if you are still using them.

    Thank you Paper Chef for saving me from constantly having to buy new mats. I finally took your advice and applied Zig Two-way glue to my cleaned mats. The results were absolutely amazing. I have learned so much from your tutorials. Please continue helping us to be better crafters with the our ScanNcut machines.

    It's now April 2023 & I needed to restick my Brother ScanNCut mat, so I wanted to see how YOU would do it. I've ordered the 2-way glue plus I ordered a 2nd mat, so I'll have a backup if next time I need to restick my mat & won't have to wait. Thanks Kimberly, as always, for a great video! I should be getting my SU! order in just a day or 2, and am so excited!! WooHoo!

    I found a work around for the mat when I needed a quick sticky mat. I had some clear, repositionable Con-tact paper. I cut it to within the registration marks, stuck it down and had a new, clean, sticky mat. I have cut with it several times and it works great. When it loses stick, I can peel it off and stick on a new piece. No waiting for glue to dry.

      I love this idea. Thanks for sharing it so that others can give it a try. Last summer, I took a sheet of something similar. I figured it was double-sided so it would work. However, I cut right through it. I had shredded plastic and bumps all over so I gave up on using it.

    Thank you for another brilliant video....I’ve only had mine a couple of months and the mats were so sticky when I got them that the card and paper stuck so bad it had to be scrubbed off in sink with water...nothing else would work..I could hold the mats in the air stuck to my hand....then of course they dried and nothing will stick....I contacted brother who were extra unhelpful to say the least, eventually they told me to restick with pin flair or buy another mat! By this time I’d found you and ordered the glue you recommend...it’s taken weeks to get here from the US but arrived today so I’m glad you’ve just shown me how to put it on. Thanks!!! Thank you so much. I have never understood why people restick Cricut mats when they are so cheap, especially when you buy in bulk. But the SCN DX mats are crazy expensive and I totally get why people find the need to restick them. I don't get why Brother is gouging their customers on necessary supplies. I love the machine for cutting out my stamps, but would be hard pressed to highly recommend it based on the prices of mats and blades.

      @@sandyalexyavor1362 Well, then I CAN help. Here are suggestions. The first thing to do when the mat doesn't load is to check that you have not covered up the registration marks with your paper. Then, make sure there is nothing stuck over the marks like dirt or tape. Still doesn't load, turn the mat around. Still doesn't load, turn off the machine. Still doesn't, clean the scanning plate. I think I need to do a video on that. Just turning off and on the machine usually helps. Oh yes, one more thing. The Cricut cartridges are now registered to each Cricut device. Therefore, for me to take them and move them, it would take more steps than it is worth, not to mention, I have a Cricut (more than one) so I use the best tool for the job. Cricut lets me cut hundreds on mats with one command, all on different layers and therefore different colors of paper. We are not allowed to share Cricut images so it would not be s very ethical lesson if you know what I mean. Personally, I will not go there.

    • @PaperedChef
      @PaperedChef  4 года назад

      Joella, you have to get one kind of mat for your DX and another kind for CM models. They are not interchangeable. You have a DX so there should be just one arrow because it only feeds in one direction. CM mats have two arrows. DX mats have a diamond shaped hole on the bottom and CM mats don't have any holes. Once you established you have the right mat, try sanding the top a little to help get it to grip. You may also want to call Brother Tech Support. I don't think the Cricut "piggyback" mat will work on a DX machine. It seems that making the
    mat thicker would mess up the auto pressure cuts and half cuts. The machine tests the mat thickness at the edge of the mat and then tests the thickness of the material to judge how deep the half should be. It would think the material is thicker by the thickness of the Cricut mat and that would throw off the auto half cut.
