    Holy shit. I did not expect this to blow up so much. Thank you guys, from the bottom of my heart. I just want to reiterate that this is just my personal experience and opinion. If you enjoy Overwatch 2, THAT IS COMPLETELY FINE. There will be things that we agree and disagree with but we need to be open to civil discussions and conversations if there's any hope of any of our feedback getting through. If people want this game to be taken seriously, it needs to be treated as such. Also, to be completely fair, there are bad takes from both 5v5 and 6v6 but that doesn't mean that we can't come together and compromise.
    For those of you who are commenting "Just stop playing and move on", sure I could but that's how products go stale and stagnate in quality. Some people are more passionate about things than others and don't want to see a product or experience they once loved to continue declining. It's like watching a close friend make bad decisions. Yes, it would be easy to just write them off as hopeless and move on, but who wouldn't want to see them improve? I challenge anyone with the sentiment of "just move on" to apply that same feeling towards something they are passionate about that they've been invested in for years.
    Once again, for everyone that watched this, whether you agree or not, I hope that it inspires you to be outspoken about your passion. Thank you for sharing your opinions and experiences. Thank you for the crazy support. Thank you so much. We go agane.
    "It is important to draw wisdom from many different places. If you take it from only one place, it becomes rigid and stale." - Uncle Iroh (Avatar: The Last Airbender).

      I just wanna say thank you on a couple points.
      1. You mentioning how there are some players trying to speak for the average player. I specifically remember Freedo himself in the early days of ow2 said things like “rose-tinted glasses” and ever since folks have echoed that from him.
      2. Pointing out that some people wanna take going back to 6v6 is off the table when 5v5 was forced upon us.
      On the surface, to some it would make sense that the devs have invested too much into 5v5 now. Why go back?
      But they forget the devs ALSO invested a lot in 6v6. More years of balance and internal testing pointless due to a format switch.
      If the devs made the format change despite the investment in 6v6 why is it so hard now? Pride?
      6v6 wouldn’t work now obviously with the current balancing.
      But if they did make the change, it would not feel all the much different than how things are now. Unless they made vast changes very quickly and then adjusted over time.
      That doesn’t even scratch the surface because role passives add another layer that ow1 didn’t have…
      I just appreciate someone else with a platform saying similar things that some of us in places like Reddit in the community are saying. Myself included.

I think that compounds on the fact that the balance team has little to no idea what theyre doing and the skill ceiling of the game keeps getting lowered, not to mention that even with all the content that's being added NONE of it really revitalises the game in a meaningful, positive way.

      It feels empty because it is. Without a 2nd tank, 40-60% of the cast lost a majority of their diversity when it comes to their play styles, because of the less available defensive skills on the field.
      Overwatch 2 since it came out has forced 2 possible options. Build a team to separate and annihilate the enemy tank before yours goes down. Or play high DPS and high survivability soloists to overcome neutral easier.

The game started to go down hill when they went to a 2-2-2 format. Yeah you had some messed up games but sometimes youd get the 6 support comp and roll through the other or 5 tanks, 3 DPS 3 tanks etc and win against the 2-2-2 playstyle. It was fun being to play all three groups in a game. Now the 2-2-2 brought in more organized style of play which made it great in itself but the styles were more expressive with open que. This formed GOATS which in turned formed CLOCKWORK, and BALL metas to counter it. You'll never have a meta again where the soldier is the main healer.

    This makes me sad... I got OW1 when it came out, I was so in love with the cinematics and the universe Blizzard was building there. I used to play all day long with friends, having fun with a game that had a lot of variety of playstyles. My aim sucks, but I didn't need it to play Tracer or Zarya and making a play that could turn the game around. I had to smart and have some game awareness. This was fun... Until it wasn't.
    When Brigitte came out the gameplay changed so much. I was never too much of a competitive player, I would play for a bit, get platinum and leave, but soon quickplay was becoming too annoying, having to play "meta" characters on QP was BORING.
    By the time OW2 was announced I had already given up. Scandals, dumb changes and a lot of promisses with no guarantee were enough to keep me away from the game and I'm happy I didn't waste my time. I still miss my time having fun with OW1, but I know that that game is not coming back.

Developer neglect just amplified the issues. When OW2 was announced, at first I was hopeful based on what they initially promised, but when they pulled the stunt of rugpulling us I refused to give OW2 a shot. I knew exactly what they had done: They sold OW1 at a premium price with the promise of "free gameplay updates". OW2 was their way of weaseling out of this promise, restructuring the store and pretending that this was a sequel, while everyone could tell this was a patch for OW1 in disguise. What a shame. I recently discovered a workshop mod called "6v6 adjustments" (as well as a discord server with the same name) and it's astonishing how much more pleasant tank feels to play despite the limited changes they were able to make. 12 random people from a discord server with various ranks and ping, yet I've experienced less steam rolls and it feels like you have way more play/kill potential (especially on tank).
    If a couple of community members can make 6v6 work using only workshop tools blizzard has no excuse to not put it in arcade or as the default game mode.

And then the well matched games still somehow feel like you can’t have any impact.

    And funnily enough, I have to say that I actually would want the end of OW1 back (when it basically didnt even recieve any updates anymore..) since it felt better back then. Back then you could actually express your skill and be proud of yourself rather than being annoyed that your reaction time with your kiri suzu is to slow resulting in a lost fight for you xD

I was optimistic when the sequel was announced because I imagined myself really loving PVE, but of course that’s scrapped in favor of battlepass. The subreddit seems to have fewer quality posts that helped me over the years, and is now primarily new players who are excited about the skins and have no clue how great the game used to be. I still occasionally hop on for a few matches (in quick play because comp is rife with cheaters) and am always reminded that I don’t enjoy the game anymore. It’s not for people like us now. I think what feels off to me is that players aren’t really working together. Sure, a TON of OW1 games lacked team cohesion, but OW2 feels more like five people playing their own game in the same lobby. It’s so hectic and nonstop that I’ll find myself apart from my team constantly without even noticing that we split up.
    And then…the characters. What happened to the substance? Why is the lore nonexistent? The new heroes are fine, but who are they? Why did they join Overwatch?
    And for that matter, what does Overwatch even do? What caused the world to turn their backs on them? The (now standalone) story missions didn’t elaborate on any of it, and it’s been years. No wonder Michael Chu left; Blizzard gave him no room to tell the story! I’ve grown attached to my favorite heroes, but only because I can imagine my own stories for them. We need an actual story that we can sink our teeth into.
    (Also, as far as I’m concerned, the “Bomb Flats” thing isn’t canon. They took the funniest, most chaotic character in the game and gave him the least interesting origin possible.)

    • @KhaiShinryu
      @KhaiShinryu  5 месяцев назад +21

      I think "Main Character Syndrome" has always existed in OW but is much more evident in OW2 since there's more emphasis on the individual to make plays. But just because there's more emphasis on individual play does not mean that it's easier and so when things go wrong, it is much easier to blame everyone else. When you lost a player in OW1, you could still scrap it out and try to flip the fight but when you lose the fight in OW2, unless the enemy team fumbles horrendously on the follow up, that team fight is pretty much over and people start pointing fingers.
      I have said this for a long time but Overwatch lore has gone absolutely nowhere. We have gotten so many cinematics but mostly just boil down to "Overwatch is back." This was the most egregious to me when Sojourn's cinematic came out because we waited so long for a new one just to be told the same thing we already knew years ago. Ramattra was the biggest wasted opportunity for expanding his lore because I find him to be such an interesting character. Illari to me is very boring and bland. I like Venture's personality because they're detached from OW and Talon but that's pretty much it. So yes, I 100% agree with you that the characters lack a lot of depth past their initial "quirkiness."

    • @GrimNobody
      @GrimNobody 4 месяца назад +2

      As someone very well-versed in this game's lore, there is a lot they could do here. I don't remember if the Blackwatch PVE event covered it or not. But the whole plot point of Reaper's war crimes while leading Blackwatch causing the UN to turn their backs on the organization as a whole was a very interesting angle. Adds a lot of depth to Reaper's character, I think, probably thinking he was "getting his hands dirty to keep the rest of the world clean" type of thing. Blackwatch's dirt being revealed forced the UN to create the Petras Act, illegalizing Overwatch activity entirely.
      I would like to see an animated short of Soldier: 76 interrogating Reaper about the war crimes, but that would be a very serious scene about a serious topic. Not the kind of thing wants to make your little kid-friendly Pixar animations about.

    Really well said. I can tell you have hung around the online Overwatch debate sphere. You’ve learned the arguments, and honed them very well with your own experiences.
    Really like the characters I play, Ball, Venture, and Zarya. I’m not bad at the game, I’m usually in mid masters, but the balance has been infuriating. I play Ball, get counterswapped, and their Hog gets free value and one shots by existing. Kiri and Bap live my dives for an eternity since they both have two great defensive cooldowns and mobility with no cooldown.
    It sucks man, my solo killing potential is terrible. These supports do so much healing. How come I don’t get a dps passive? How come supports like them just have to wait 2.5 seconds for a passive heal? I could unironically kill things with ball easier when I played against double shield.
    Ball is also a big loser for counterswapping. I pop off one fight, then they lock sombra cass. Since I have no zarya or Dva to help, I have to play like a huge wuss to just stay alive.
    God I hate these characters that take no excecution, “just sit back and shoot”. Fucking boring. Nerf the supports passive by a few seconds so they can’t use it as a poking tool with little risk, get rid of the other passives, remove Hog, Orisa, Mauga, Widow, Kiri, Bap, Lifeweaver, and Sojourn.

    Overwatch is not a competitive game, its a game with a crippling identity crisis that was shoved into esports before it was ready. The devs never cared to learn the game or let it develop on its own, rather they kept trying to force things in the strangest ways. If there was a problem, they changed the format even if it blatantly contradicted themselves in the past. Hero Stacking, Role Lock, 5v5, the game I bought was one where you were supposed to be flexible across the cast to swap what is needed, the game now is about maining a role.
    Just how many times does Overwatch need to hasitly try to re-invent itself before Blizzard realizes that they themselves were always the problem?

    I've said this on many many OW videos I've taken interest in. When OW first came out, it was magical. A breath of fresh air for many people. The events, characters (even if lack luster) and gameplay were among the best in any game. The cinematics made me cry, the small lore details hyped me up, the events did a good job to get myself and others interested. But once they introduced Brig, things started to become bland, and rather boring. Then from there on only worse, and worse. Now OW is nothing more than any of those F2P games you see on Steam or mobile where there's some good there, but it's overly hungry for money and cares little for how the players feel. It's sad really. I'd give anything to have OW1 back in whatever capacity we had it. I'll take loot boxes back over the BP, I'll take the older versions of heroes. But that'll never happen. The game I fell in love with is gone.

While i was a support player, even though i knew for a fact my role was busted- it felt like once i became interested in playing Tank and DPS more did i realize how it truly felt for those who held these as their main role. Tank feels like a "get beat up simulator" and DPS feels like out of their massive roster only Hitscan heroes are viable. Hanzo, Reaper, Genji, so many fun characters have lost their identities and the fact i heard rumors of Reinhardt being reworked, it feels to me the deconstruction of what i loved about this game will only continue. I walk away from most of my Overwatch games feeling completely indifferent. I'm shocked i smoked so much copium for ten seasons believing it'll improve. I know I'm yapping but fuck, i really really loved this game. Now, i just wanna do anything but play it.

Characters like Ashe and Cass are balanced heroes that deserve to be good picks that reward people for not using cringey abilities in a shooter game

    I genuinely believe that the transition to 5v5 is because the engine can't handle it. Hell, even today in 5v5 the match will crash if there's multiple mauga ults amongst other ults off at the same time. Watching 6v6 pugs/custom games the match will go into slow motion at best and at worst will crash.

    • @KhaiShinryu
      @KhaiShinryu  5 месяцев назад +3

      That definitely makes sense. I've seen the 6v6 PUGS and the slow mode you're talking about, but it's kind of odd. I think the person goes by CactusPuppy and they do a lot with the OW workshop and they recently revealed that OW2 still has 6 spawn points in the spawn rooms for both teams, so the foundation is still there.

      I am thinking the same as well. Or it was just an overall cost saving on the hardware side going 5v5. Now your servers just have to fit 10 players into your lobby instead of 12. This small change prob saved Blizz hundreds of thousands on hardware cost for all we know.

    • @eddybreezy
      @eddybreezy 5 месяцев назад +1

      That's a server/compute issue more than anything else. They are obviously using lower spec'd machines which would not support 6v6 in the same way. Any company would estimate for bare minimum to run the engines for each game with a bit of a buffer. If the game was doing well there'd be better servers prop'd to handle the load.

    Your insight is really helping me discern why I fell out of Overwatch 2. I only started playing a year ago and uninstalled just over 100 hours. I amounted it to just not liking the competitive 5v5 style over more casual multiplayer formats, but that didn't stop me from pouring over 500 hours into Siege just a couple years before? One thing I can say for certain, I definitely didn't prefer the rock-paper-scissors style for playing tank. I generally enjoyed learning the other heroes and didn't mind counter swapping on dps roles, but for tank, I found myself feeling frustrated that the characters I WANTED to play weren't viable as soon as a couple people swapped. Hearing about it, a second tank would certainly be nice to employ a bit more flexibility and maybe alleviate pressure. Your information on what Overwatch 1 was like is really interesting too. I probably would have loved OW and played a lot longer if I had played it back then.

    • @KhaiShinryu
      @KhaiShinryu  5 месяцев назад +1

      OW1 had a lot more ways to show how skilled you were at a hero. There were one-tricks back then just as there are now. Some bad but a lot of the times, those individuals were really good at those heroes, even if they were off-meta. Even if they weren't performing well, your other role partner could help alleviate that pressure and open up other opportunities to find value. If you get a one-trick now, you better hope it's a meta hero or else you're going to have to put in way more effort and lose anyway, or just giving it up entirely and go next.
      I played Siege for a good while also. The difference is that Siege doesn't have definitive roles like OW where you HAVE to tank or heal. There were kits in Siege that leaned more towards those role but for the most part, everyone had the same frag potential. In OW, you make one mistake and the team fight is over. OW doesn't have those clutch moments like you can get in Siege. I've been out of the loop of Siege for a while but for me, there weren't any operators that directly countered another. (I hope that's still the case lol).

    Nice video, I really liked the "asymetrical" part, because it is so true. I used to play Evolve a lot, and one big monter vs a group of hunters was really interesting, but exactly as you said, if one side is weak, it gets buffed but then the other side becomes weak and it starts a spiral. Evolve died, and maybe it's for the best because the issue had no solution bcs of the format of the game. Here we have 1-2-2, where the one tank will never be balanced properly and the only way to balance it is at the cost of other roles. It has been over a year now, we've had all kinds of metas, almost the whole roster was meta at some point in time, we had reworks and different balance changes, yet the game was never as fun as OW1. When are we gonna acknowledge that we do not know the solution to the problem and start doing some drastic testing to fix it. Being completely silent about 6v6 makes it even worse, especially when there is such a big part of community asking for it, or atleast wanting to try it. And I am getting pretty sick of poeple telling the that actually I do have fun and I do enjoy this format more. I DON'T, so please can people stop telling me that I am having more fun now than in ow1? I think I can judge wether I am having fun myself.

    • @KhaiShinryu

    I liked 6v6, especially as an off-tank main, but I don't really care whether they go back or stick with 5v5. I just want tank to feel fun.
    Like you said the main things impacting that are counterswapping and "easy to play tanks". I think if doom/winton countered another tank it wouldn't be so bad since they take skill. But if you're being countered by Mauga/Hog/Orisa, they get immense value at their skill floors by pressing buttons.
    It doesn't help that they've made lots of things easier, like with hog instead of being a glass cannon, he can now vape/hook anytime he wants which reduces counterplay.
    There's so many cool incentives they could have for comp. E.g., every 50 wins, 100, etc you could get comp-exclusive:
    - Death stamps
    - Kill effects
    - Weapon skins
    The content of the game felt ok this season. Venture and Mirrorwatch felt fun, but I'd appreciate some transparency on big-picture things they're working on, like a clans or tournament system. Atm there's nothing to really look forward to.

    As a former console player I am about to hit you with a light bulb moment. Its no secret that OW was designed as a pc game. However, when OW2 went f2p it removed the requirement for console players to have a live monthly sub in order to access multiplayer. Now all console players need is a internet connection. As a console player I am sure you can verify this through your own experience. What does this mean? It means that the bulk of the playerbase now resides on console. I am talking 75% or more. The devs obviously know this and you can see it in the changes to OW2 over the course of 11 seasons. The devs have redesigned OW to make it console friendly. The passives, the increased bullet sizes, more hp. It is a dumbing down of the game in order to compensate for joyustick play and lower framerates on console. Look at the heroes released post Queen and Soj. We don't count them because they were designed by the old devs and had been in works internally for years and years. I am talking about Mauga, Venture, Life Weave, Illari. They are simple designs that get value for free by pressing a button. It is a console design. This a now a console game with a PC port. What I am typing here is 100. I do not have a platform to spread this information but you do.

    You get it, and to tell the truth, I think most people get it but they don't necessarily know how to express it.
    Classic heroes like Rein have those skill-based mind game interactions. While I think there's a lot that could be done to improve his design, there's no shortage of players who comment on how fun he is to play. He's fun to play against, too.
    Here's a hot take, but a correct one. Overwatch should never have had more than a handful of additional heroes added. The reason is that the core hero pool during development was balanced collectively. It's like baking a cake, you need to get all the proportions right. You can add icing on top after it's all done, but the core of it has to be carefully put together. You can't keep just adding more and more after you're done and think you can just "fine-tune it" to make it work.
    Right now it's a conflated mess that only ever results in, at best, empty victories and ego-indulging potgs, or at worst, violent frustration.

If you get a chance you should come on over to The Finals like I did with some friends. It has it's issues, but it's f2p an the developers actually care. @@hazzaellis6739 So I don't mean to make this an effort post, but I have a lil conspiracy theory on why they will never/refuse to bring back 6v6. Hear me out.
      So all of Blizz's games have to go through Netease if they want to be playable in the Chinese market. Few years back they screwed this up an actually LOST WoW china region agreement an it hit Blizz hard. Both in the pocketbook an in reputation. Everyone lost all their characters etc. Blizz has been trying to get that Netease contract again ever since.
      Well, Marvel Rivals is developed by Netease. Blizz an Netease JUST signed a new contract allowing Blizz games again. Bet your ass that contract has a "no competition" clause in it. Marvel Rivals was first announced weeks after the new Netease contract, which was also the same week Flats interviewed the OW Devs an they told him "no 6v6 talk".
      It's my theory that they CAN'T bring back 6v6 or it risks breaking the no competition clause. Which you might say is dumb because they're both hero shooters or w/e, However team comp size is THE huge difference. To further back this idea up, that NDA Rivals streamers had to sign, the one that said "no negative talk" well it also had a very line as well that stated "no comparisons to other hero shooters, their game designs or their characters/abilities"
      So, I dunno man. It just all kinda adds up to me. But don't take my word for it, I encourage you to look into it yourself an come to your own conclusion. But why else chose THIS hill to die on? Shit dont make sense.

      Honestly, could you explain your reasonings, because telling me you’re a tank main since “17” isn’t really an explanation.
      I was a Tank/Support main since “16” and I can tell you 5v5 is obviously not working. One reasoning I believe this is because of balancing, why do you think the devs are struggling so hard to balance the game in its current state, especially with tanks, either being too strong or (currently) too weak.
      Roadhog (was my main), I believe is a great example of what I’m talking about, in original OW he wasn’t perfect but with another tank he was a great flanker who didn’t need the support of his second tank, on the launch of OW2 they had to over tweak his kit and he became way to powerful and way to good at what he did as a flanker, Roadhog was not designed to function as main tank. Currently tanks are incredibly weak due to over balancing to compensate for the two missing players (tanks), and they’re trying to shift this power dynamic to dps as a result of that categories popularity.
      There are many other factors and examples, and I have so many other reasons why OW shouldn’t of switched to 5v5, but my main point being that balancing is in shambles due to the 5v5 model, and simply saying, “I like it because I like it” isn’t really a good reason.

I still have a lot of memories of people having a lot of the same complaints and a lot of talking about balancing during 6v6. It doesn't really matter what it is cause they already fucked up balancing in 6v6, they're messing up balancing in 5v5 and it's not like it's going to be any better if they go back to 6v6. There's no competitive game with perfect balance and people will always complain about something. I think you should just have fun with the game that's there instead of bitching on the internet for 2 years asking the company for something that they have no intention of ever doing.

      @@KhaiShinryu that's because its *is* the same game. they just took a role slot from tank. The pve mode was going to be 5v5 because that's the usual dungeon group size in games (usually 1tank/3dps/1healer) and they most likely didn't want a difference between the "main" game being 6v6 but the pve/story being 5v5 so they made the main 5v5, but did absolutely none of the deep system work needed to make 5v5 work. that's why all the roles are shit to play as. none of them were meant for 5v5, hell, even the new heroes added don't all seem built for 5v5 (Junker queen, Illari, lifeweaver as a few) imo. Junker would be amazing with a 2nd tank to help her, and Lifeweaver was def meant to be the "main healer" sub in so the other support could pick/play someone more offensive and not have to worry about healing as much.
      OW2's "engine work" was literally just the upgrades to the bots in the pve modes they (shouldn't've) charged for and the few event pve modes they've done. *That's* what the upgrades were to Overwatch's engine, nothing to do with the pvp mode or 5v5/6v6. Soft counters still exist but good players could work around them or work with the team to divide the attention, even if you didn't completely synergize. Ball in OW2, if your team isn't snowballing and keeping that momentum, it feels like Ball is doomed to just sit in front of all the damage now as if he is Mauga or Orisa and that just isn't fun.

    I remember getting overwatch for christmas when i was younger, started playing comp in season 9. i remember how much fun it used to be learning new things i could with characters and how to play a tough match-up, but now its just a game of rock, paper, scissors. The fun i used to have just isn't there anymore, and its sad to see.

      They cant, simply because they damn well KNOW that not a SOUL would be willing to touch 5v5 with a thirty foot pole when we’d have the option to play the game the right way, in 6v6

      They would need to balance heros for it. 5v5 tanks in a 6v6 mode would be way too much. 6v6 is definitely the only thing though that saves this game

    I definitely agree with you. I started playing in S2 with OW being my first ever DPS (and 2nd ever overall game!) and I was HOOKED. I vividly recall my friend and I travelling an hour to buy the game, and both playing it on our laptops at barely 20fps. We played day and night and became very, very close friends. I eventually quit in S13 due to the state of the game. I JUST picked the game back up a couple weeks ago to play Kiriko but I'm already fed up with the current state of the game. I miss the old OW. I miss all the memories my friend and I made, and I miss the friends we made in the game. It'll never be the same. RIP OW1.

    I am a main tank enjoyer. I hit top 500 multiple times with D.Va and Reinhardt. Ive peaked as high as Top 30 NA with D.Va. What made me quit the game was one of my best friends from school asking me during a game "George, why are you so negative all the time" and I honestly sat back and thought about it. The role I fell in love with and sank hundreds on hours into was completely changed and different. On top of that, everyone in the game has a greenlight to blame their tanks for a loss. I am not kidding you when I say every other game I was getting flamed by my own teammates because "TANK DIFF LOL" I kept trying to trick myself into enjoying it and thinking I was having fun. I wasnt and when my homie said that, I havent touched the game since. There are too many great games that are peaking right now to settle for OW. Simple as that.

    With Blizzard starting to rethink the move to 5v5 in Overwatch 2, and players still trying to adjust, there are a few things that need to be said:
    5v5 Just Doesn't Work: Switching from 6v6 to 5v5 and making the tank role a solo gig never really made sense. The reasoning better visibility or shorter queue times feels like a weak trade-off. Overwatch was always about teamplay and being competitive. Now, in Overwatch 2, it feels like the whole game depends on what the tank does. As a DPS or healer, you're almost forced to rely too much on the tank.
    The Old Synergy is Gone: In Overwatch 1, combining ultimates to capture a point or push the payload felt incredibly rewarding. Now, it’s more about running and gunning with less strategy involved. It’s just “press W and left-click” without much thought behind it.
    Blaming 6v6 for Meta Issues is Shortsighted: People argue that 6v6 was bad because of the double shield or G.O.A.T. metas, but that’s missing the bigger picture. Those metas came about due to specific hero designs like Brigitte and Baptiste like mentioned in the vid. If Blizzard had balanced the game differently, those metas wouldn’t have been so dominant.
    Losing OG Players wasn't Worth It: If the goal was to reduce queue times and bring in new players, downgrading the game wasn't the way to go. Instead, it's just pushed away a lot of the original Overwatch players who loved the 6v6 format.
    To sum it up, Overwatch 1 in its prime was one of the best tactical FPS games out there. The problem isn’t with 6v6-it's with the decisions Blizzard made along the way. Bringing back 6v6 could help get Overwatch back on track, if not to the top, then at least in the right direction.
    i have been playing ow since beta as well, maining genji, tracer hanzo, but comparing the good old days to now...playing dps, felt like u are really contributing and actually dealing dmg. now dps just feels like throwing cocktail sticks on to tanks

    I quit at the end of season 9. I just wanted my mythic skin and it was a long slog to get it. Now I just keep an eye on how the game is doing, I WANT to come back but it has let me down too many times for me to come back. I 100% agree with all of your points and my advice is do the same thing I did. Blizzard is too stubborn to change the game if it still has a semi-healthy player base.

      I usually don't care for cosmetics but I love the concept of mirrored universes in media so much that I was actually excited and bought the battlepass. I was really hoping that the season would be good too, but I also really struggled to bring myself to finish it.
      I don't think the game will struggle with new player numbers overall because it is free-to-play but it's whether or not the quality of the experience will keep them invested

    The whole part of devs focusing and listening to the competitive side of a game and changing the whole game around it is something a lot of other games can sadly speak to. Casuals and competitive players of any multiplayer game can talk about the same game yet sounds like they're talking about two completely different games, but once a game starts going down the esports route only the comp players will have a real voice and everyone else has to live with the changes to make the comp players happy who arent even a double digit percentages of the player base.

    I started playing overwatch like 4 months after its release, and with each passing day, it becomes more obvious that blizzard doesn't want me as a customer anymore
    I think thats exactly their strategy with ow2, let go of all the players that remember 6v6, non agressive monetization, promises of a story mode, and focus on the new players that came with the f2p, that don't remember any of these things
    For all the time it was alive, ow1 was my go to online game, i used to main tank, that role is absolute ass in ow2. This and other balance issuses that came with 5v5 basically killed the game for me, everytime i force myself to boot up overwatch, i just feel misreable knowing that this game was once so great, and that the product i paid 40$ was brutally ripped away from my hands

    • @KhaiShinryu
      @KhaiShinryu  5 месяцев назад +3

      I also believe that by not acknowledging 6v6 as an option, they hope that people will grow tired of the conversation. Unfortunately, this is kind of where I am at this point but I wanted to use this video as an outlet for others who have similar sentiments but feel like their opinions are being dismissed.
      I was also a tank player for a good chunk of OW1. I loved Reinhardt so much. The dopamine hit when you played well was something no other game gave me. Now, it doesn't matter if I do everything right. One mistake and you get immediately flamed. It's just not fun for me.

    I really agree with what you said about the game becoming too accessible at the cost of the player base by dumming down the game and removing a lot of skill expression.
    A lot of reworks and balance changes are complete misses that don’t fix the problems they’re meant to address. The hog rework neither removed the one-shot everyone was complaining about nor make him playable into matchups like zen or ana, all it did in the grand schemes of it was make it so he can continue healing after being stunned out of it so that you don’t have to be resourceful about using it and making him easier overall. The ball rework is the same, instead of making him somewhat playable into all his cc counters they added a shield sharing mechanic that is counterproductive to his playstyle.
    I'd also like to expand on your point on people padding their egos with huge stats on the score board that makes them think they're doing more than what's actually the case. The direction the balance seems to be going in is where a lot of nuances are being replaced with numbers and that tricks the player base to believe that the scoreboard tells them how well they are playing. The truth is that a lot of stats are “empty” meaning they don’t contribute to victory in any way shape or form. Take a moira throwing a dmg orb into the enemy team before a team fight, or a soldier shooting the unkillable roadhog instead of squishies for an example, what does it do? Nothing but feeding the enemy supports ult, but instances like that are counted to the score board while actual value that takes skill like a lucio speeding in the team or a doomfist contesting a position and pulling enemy resources does not.
    All of this is to point out how the game is becomming more braindead to play the further into ow2 we come.

    • @KhaiShinryu
      @KhaiShinryu  5 месяцев назад +1

      Something I forgot to mention is that since character statlines are so much higher in OW2, you're starting to see averages of 20k damage and healing. Those numbers would have been ridiculous in OW1 but now it's becoming more common. This was an issue in OW1 with the gold medal system as well but for the most part, people understood that getting gold elims with 2 kills isn't really something you should be bragging about. These numbers always lacked context at face value but there should never be a case where you deal 20k damage on average and barely manage to get over 15 kills. I'm just using these numbers as an example but comparatively, you're looking at at least 1k damage per kill. That's insanity.
      I've had games where I go 26 and 0 and it also is just an empty feeling. It's like trying to break down a brick wall with a regular hammer. It will happen eventually but it certainly isn't fun or engaging. That's what the game has become for me.
      Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

    Apathy is the best word to describe how I feel about the game now. I haven't played since it was released on Steam, and I don't plan on wasting my time on it. The story mode was my main draw to OW2, and also the major reason for why I defended the sequel, the cancellation of the only reason for that 2 in the title was the last straw for me.
    I looked past the 5v5, I looked past the predatory shop, I looked past the lacking content, I looked past the missing features, all because of the promise of this brand new mode that would expand on the story. All we got instead was an apology that basically said "We wasted our time on this and now you won't get to see any of it."

    I dropped Overwatch 1 the moment I realised that the devs had no idea how to design their Heroes in a way that would be fun and rewarding. I used to main Genji at launch. Back then he used to have triple jump when interacting with walls and the ability to launch himself super high into the air by doing perfectly timed angled dash jumps on ledges. Both of these things made the Hero extremely fun to play with a high skill ceiling for those who wanted to master him yet wasn't game breaking. What do the devs decide to do? Remove both movement options of course! Then when they finally nerfed his ultimate by 2 seconds I just lost all interest in playing him.
    Then there was the infamous Roadhog hook issue. Over a year it took for them to address it, but it took even more patches to make it not infuriating to play against. It also became a massive issue because Blizzard nerfed some of the best tank options for dealing with the hook, so we had a tank that was fully able to one shot practically all the non-tanks on the roster with a single hook+shotgun combo with one of the easiest to land CCs in the game with an insane range. We had to deal with this for years.
    Not to mention the devs almost never released any balance patches, so things could remain absolutely bonkers broken for months until something more busted came along like a new Hero release. Though, by the time those came out I was already long gone. I tried Overwatch 2 for like two matches when it came out, but I had no plans on staying since I had decided to avoid all of Blizzard's games with the exception for a couple of legacy titles like HotS, StarCraft 1/2, and WarCraft 3 on occasion. OW 2 just felt like basically the same game that made me decide to leave, but a lot less charming than when it launched.
    As far as I'm concerned, Overwatch as a brand is beyond saving, the same with Blizzard as a whole. The Microsoft acquisition hasn't changed anything in this regard and might have arguably made it worse in some places.

    I never did play OW1 as I never gave the game a chance, I started with S1 on OW2 and the moment i really looked at the game I was disappointed at what I had missed out on. Similarly I started with Support and eventually moved to Tank my whole inspiration was watching old and new Zbra clips and I wanted to reach a level on par with him with Doomfist. The game was fun but over the season it just lost it's charm. You dont have to be good, skilled or even have any level of game sense, you just shut off your brain hold W and Mouse1 and then Rage post or in extreme situation rage hack cause blizzard wont do anything.
    the game is a glorified cash grab and my honest to god opinion was making it F2P along with 5v5 were some of the worst decisions blizzard could've ever made

      Yeah as someone who’s played original overwatch. This isn’t true, you can’t win just like that, the game still needs skill and strategy. No offence but I think that’s a bronze take.don’t get me wrong I like 6v6 more but the reasons why it’s better aren’t just “the game doesn’t require skill anymore”. it’s not true. If it were you’d be plat or higher
