OW1 was such a unique experience, you could play one character in OW1 for years and never get bored cause there were so many variables and situations to get into . Even with characters that have a simple kit, it allowed people who didn’t even have an fps background to express their skill in more ways than just raw aiming . OW2 killed this concept in attempt to make the game easy for everyone .

I feel ya on the love and loss of OW1. OW2 felt...off for some reason. It wasn't until recently I put the pieces together. Without that 2nd tank, every roll has to be a "shooter" more. I was a support main and it was nice being able to contribute to the match without having to aim well like you said. You can still get that feeling a little with Mercy in OW2, but everything else feels more FPS driven which I'm terrible at. OW1 was nice because you could still contribute to your team without being a McShooty master.

I relate so strongly to your experience. The exception being that I only started with Overwatch 2.
I genuinely don't know how the developers think that this game is even remotely okay. I have nearly 1,000 hours in Overwatch 2 and a good chunk of that is me just gritting my teeth and hoping that it gets better.
The game I loved died a few seasons into It's lifetime, and even then it is clearly worse than the original. Even I can see that.
Anyways, my life has dramatically improved since I stopped playing. I still think about the game nearly every day, and I'm genuinely sad that I can't play anymore.

The very same homies I played with for 5 years in OW1 quit 1 by 1 in OW2. We still don't even have weapon inspects when they showed it off all the way back in OW2 trailers. They killed the promised PVE which was the biggest selling point for OW2. Then you got thanos walking around as the solo tank snapping his fingers, and the worst part is they either do not die or die instantly, miserable. OW2 is a failure.

I hate OW but my timeline of getting there happened so much faster. I started playing OW2 around April 2023 after Lifeweaver was released. I had always been interested in the game back during its release but I heard how toxic it was and was scared to try but with OW2 being free to play and PVE being in the works I was excited to try.
And then not only did I find out that PVE wasn't happening but Lifeweaver was considered a throw pick for awhile and even today isn't considered that great competitively and people still constantly make videos about how bad he is. He's the hero I joined the game to play because I liked his kit so much. I have hundreds of hours on him, more than any other character and yet just bc of how he's valued and his kit I can't even feel comfortable playing competitive without being told Im throwing.
As such I ended up playing characters I was unfamiliar with in the beginning of my competitive journey and as a result I fell in rank really hard. I slowly climbed back up but I was so discouraged I just gave up comp immediately. What's the point of playing something if I cant even play the characters I like?
I have long since muted all chats aside from group & whispers and I exclusively play QP now. But when a game feels like this what's the point of playing it? I've resolved to play through the Battle Pass on each new season but other than that I don't play. I've gone back to my WoW roots and tbh it's so liberating. Dying in WoW for the first few times actually gave me anxiety and I realized it was bc of OW. Mount farming and daily quests are so much more relaxing lol

And 5v5ers will say that 6v6 wasn't good and all of us have nostalgia and rose tinted glasses for ow1, the problem isn't nostalgia, the problem is the format that forces you to counterswap constantly, as Flats said, team 4 originally mentioned that they wanted to keep the option to main a character (because they knew there were a lot of otp's), then, when they weren't able to maintain that condition, they changed the argument that it was intended for players to switch characters.
Team 4 can't accept their errors, they will do whatever they could to simply not accept that they messed up, an example of this is when they ignored the community asking for 6v6 (subject that luckily seems that they are going to talk about sooner or later).
In conclussion, what made overwatch feel so unique was the strong and weak points of every character that in a symmetric format (6v6) each one could cover the weakness of the other, by removing a tank, now the game forces you to focus the weakness of the remaining one since they buffed them so hard that there's no other option, then with the new format a lot of other issues have occurred also, and the solution for blizz was to buff other roles in an infinite cycle of stubbornness against accepting that they did something wrong in the first place.
New players might like the game at it's current state (since the only thing you need to do is to know each character's counter and the skill level has dropped a lot (bigger hitboxes and hitscans having more angles caused by the missing tank)), but for ow1 veterans the game feels boring.
At this point if there was an option to play 6v6 even with double shields and longer queues, I'd gladly take that 100 times than playing a single match of counterwatch.

      @feenixsarchive  2 месяца назад +2

Remembering Overwatch 1 feels like I’m remembering a close friend that I’ll never see again. I made so many incredible memories and it was genuinely the most fun game I have ever played. Of course, it had a it’s fair share of issues, but the community and fluid nature of the game encouraged teamwork and communication in a way I had never experienced before and have failed to find since. Elements of this still exist in Overwatch 2, but it just feels like a neutered version of the game I fell in love with.
In retrospect, I don’t think the people making decisions about the game really ever understood what made it so great. It really bums me out that the game I fell in love with only exists alongside the memories I made in it - in the past and in my memory.

I understand your perspective and I think it’s a natural response to playing the same game for so long. I haven’t quit the game because I still enjoy learning heroes I haven’t played before but I think one of the big issues that’s really unsolvable about this game is that it’s sweaty no matter what game mode you’re in. Whether you’re playing unranked or competitive it all feels the same and whenever you’re doing something difficult/competitive nearly 100% of the time it’s bound to feel like a chore. The only thing that really fixes it is to (1) stop caring about rank/stats or (2) just take a break from the game or have a backup game that’s relaxing to you

I played overwatch 1 a whole lot, i got more then 1500 hours into Ana in overwatch 1. But when i played the open beta of ow 2, i already missed the second tank and this was before the release of ow 2. Im not a GM ranked player like you are, but my experience as support and specially as Ana, is that people bully you as Ana player in Ow 2. And their is a reason why i love Ana, because when she got released, i was a Mercy Main and i remember joining the map Dorado and Mercy was taken and people truly encouraged me to play Ana, while i had no experience with her at all. Thats when i became an Ana main becaue of the Community this game use to have, but today, it somewhat feels like a toxic wasteland were everyone blames eachother and never truly work together as a team, specially in a rank like gold. People run off more then ever, they dont stay as team let alone play as team and i feel like with ow 2 they truly took down teamplay with it. Because, it feels like people just wanna deal damage and dont really want to play as a team and what i noticed the most, is the fact that its so rare these days to truly have an Equal Match up in Competitive Play. Its mostly stomp or be stomped. Top that off with the fact, that i think 5v5 is the main reason why the game feels unbalanced, its not the Heroes at all. Cause maps are designed with 6v6 in mind and in 5v5, that sure might create more room for dps heroes, but it also creates an unbalanced factor on those maps. Sadly, they currently keep buffing and nerfing heroes and the balance is still no where to be found, mainly due to the fact that 5v5 is whole soul reason why its unbalanced. I think with the Tank Changes they did in Ow 2, would have been Amazing in a 6v6 format, i truly believe in that. Great video and i feel your pain in this one, cause 5v5, took down the soul that Overwatch 1 had with Overwatch 2 🥲

I can really relate to the idea of the characters you play holding you back in certain situations but not wanting to play the stronger characters because you simply don't find them fun.
The way you described it as a drag is exactly how I feel about that dynamic with OW2. A game is meant to be fun and when part of the games premise is pick whoever character you want to play out of this large roster, and then you do that only for the game scenario to basically say "well actually you can't choose that character this match if you want to be able to play the game," it just feels awful.

    • @feenixsarchive
      @feenixsarchive  2 месяца назад +1

Thank you for sharing your thoughts :) The whole thing where you are inclined to play a certain pool of characters in order to be "able to play" and also win (counter swapping for instance) just takes away how vast the hero roster actually is. It definitely feels limiting at points when it feels like there's one "right" character to play in a certain scenario.

I broke my skill plateau within the last year of Overwatch 1. Hit the technical t500 of the time. The entire time, there was nagging voices within the game chat & my mind telling me I didn't deserve it; didn't earn it. I was a Console Player, & I came late to this game, near the 2 2 2 introduction. After i peaked somewhere around 3.8 - 3.9, something just snapped. I didnt care anymore. I reached my peak. Everyone else i played was miles better, or hell, sometimes even cheating.
That's what made me quit. After you hit your peak, what is there for you? I only touch customs now.

    • @vari2d347
      @vari2d347 2 месяца назад +1

Everyone was starting to quit at the time I got my highest peak. I felt as if I accomplished something amazing, but given the circumstances, it felt as though it was unearned. Hearing players like you peak so high so consistently makes me a bit envious. I wish I had the skill & people around me to push me up the ranked ladder.
I think I was here for the grind. Once that was gone, when I knew I'd have to put my life into this grind, I stopped. I realized it wasn't worth the stress.
You hear so much nonsense coming from this game. "This is META!" "cheaters running galore!!" "Buy this skin!!!" ; it's exhausting.
Now that I'm away from the noise, I feel as though I noticed that it's a bit of a universe in itself. Contained madness. Once you're away from it, you'll realize just how futile much of your struggle was.

    • @feenixsarchive
      @feenixsarchive  2 месяца назад +1

Once you start realizing that it's not worth the stress trying to grind higher than your peak, that's definitely where you start becoming more indifferent and stop caring as much. Once the grindset is gone, it's kinda peaceful :)

It definitely beats playing alone but I still feel so unmoved whether we win or lose and I too realized that even my friends couldn't magically fix the game for me. I've experienced this same thing with league of legends and I've just concluded that I must have "fallen out of love" with these games. There's something magical about getting into a game and wanting to learn everything about it but these online multiplayers inevitably change for better or worse. As a Grandmaster Mercy/Moira main who's been that rank since OW season 4, I 100% agree with your opinion about Mercy's appeal. She's such a mechanically stressless, relaxing hero to play, and that's one of the best things about her. Not everyone wants to manage mechanics and game sense like you can with other heroes like Ana. I'm writing this 7 mins into the video, but Overwatch isn't fun anymore due to 5v5. The only reason the game even IS 5v5 was just so they could help market the game as a sequel, which we all know it wasn't. Everything in Overwatch, except for like 6-7? New post OW1 heroes and maps were designed for 6v6.

I never thought about things that way when it came to scoreboard statistics. I originally thought that the reason there was never a scoreboard in Overwatch because Blizzard was being lazy, but you make a great point about how everyone's stats can be viewed at any time. It is cool in the sense that you can see other's statistics in-game, but now that I think about it, it causes a lot of problems too, being able to easily justify blaming others by just reading out their stats that you don't approve, or just comparing them to others, etc. People can say an opinion like that is being "sensitive", but if you think about it, the scoreboard really doesn't add much besides the fact you can see it. People mostly use it to just blame others, or justify toxicity. Another great example is League, the game I moved to. In that game, everyone rushes to the scoreboard stats anytime any statistics. Scoreboard visibility lowkey only incites toxicity and is used to justify toxicity or make us compare ourselves to others. One could make the argument that people could point out teammates' areas of struggle by comparison, but given the gaming community, that'd just start shit most of the time. One could also make the argument that comparing your own stats might help you better improve your gameplay in-game, but eh. Imo, they should revert it to how it was in the first game, or make it possible to disable stats for yourself.

      @feenixsarchive  2 месяца назад

YES another mercy main who gets me 😌 ugh, it sucks the game was never meant for 5v5, but they pushed it out anyways, and it's kinda fallen apart ever since. The statboard is ngl another "tool" to be toxic to your teammates, especially bc of the whole comparison thing that can happen, which you have mentioned. If there was a setting to disable seeing everything about it, I would've absolutely turned it on. Thank you for your thoughts tho ^^

Here's my story: I played TF2 for years, tried everything, learned everything, mained everone, burned out. Thats where I learned I love healing more than anything. I never really liked OW a lot since they clearly copied quite a few things from tf2 but mercy was similar to medic and i was burned out after all so since second half of 2017 when I started I played her 90% of the time and people praised me constantly. I was always a competetive person and watched guides and trained all I could. It gave me huge advantage in tf2 but in OW barely anything because there is too much teamwork required while in tf2 you could win by yourself. I was gold for like the first 2 years. It never helped that the game hides as much info as it can and you never really know whats wrong or what does how much dmg for example so your ego covers all the holes in knowledge. After they nerfed shields I think even back in Ow 1 i became support only player, being a tank meant being a pinata and I didnt like it anymore. Playing dps was never my thing. I got from low plat where I was most of my time in OW 1 to plat 1 when first game ended. I concluded that diamond must be my top rank I could get to. At this point I hated the game for not getting me what I want for years of hard work and all the little bullshit like 50/50 matchmaking, bad teammates, toxic teammates, giving up early for no reason tammates, smurfs, hitboxes of certain heores etc. but I also started to hate mercy and decided I will never again play someone so dependant on the team since you could never count on anyone. I was never a full one trick but when I played supports with aim requirement my hand got so stiff I could barely move my mouse around. In tf2 you could line up your crosshair to the enemy using wasd and thats how I got used to aiming. In OW its almost impossible. So i bounced to heroes not requiring aim like moira. Eventually I got bored and otp brig, she is an amazing hero and she got me to low diamond. Being there required me to give my 100% every game and at this point there was something inside of me preventing me from giving more than 80%. Playing felt like a full time job. Exhausting instead of relaxing. Currently Kiriko is op, sombra one shots you, genji one shots you, winston swoops in for free kill, snipers exist so you have to play peekaboo the whole match, moira kills everyone, enemy team is either too strong or too weak, playing support is no longer fun and feels like survival-horror. I no longer play comp. There is no point. At some point i understood i got into the game to heal and help the team, not to fight for meaningless rank in unfair full of bullshit circus of a game. But I cant quit, I got nothing to fall back to. I healed in Bf4, paladins, tf2, everywhere where there are classes. So i carelessly keep playing OW. Last time I really had fun in this game was in 2018. Nowadays only when I get drunk i enjoy it. Why would I try hard and give it my all as ana for example when the enemy could pick sombra and efortlessly destroy me? Why try when moira just dives in and gets three picks and leaves with no fear? Why think about startegy when rein just mindlessly charges into entire team, gets two kills and just backs out? Why try my hardest fighting for survival while trying to heal when at the end of a match i see that some no skill character like moira or weaver has top heals AND dmg just by existing? These days I play mostly aim based supports because i love healing and I love when things are hard to do well, plus I cant give up, thats in my nature. But this game is a joke. I hate it. I die inside when I launch it. And I dont care anymore. Cant play supports like mercy, weaver, moira or even brig since i get bored with them, everything is no challenge. But when you pick the other ones its like: bro, can I play without being hunted every second I exist?! Sometimes when I know genji is coming i just let him kill me because i am so tired of it. Fortunately it takes only a dash and bullshit right click to the head, milion dmg in a split second. Like I even stand a chance. I win quite often but thats not the point. Its SO FUCKING EXHAUSTING. And there is only one right way to play every hero, to a person like me who likes to get creative and do everything in life my own way that sucks and also maining anyone just means being bored to death. And everything is the same every match. Nothing unique ever takes place. People say the same, games play out the same, people react the same way to everything, every new map is bad. OW is hands down the worst game I ever played. It looks nice and thats the only good thing I could say about it. When I meet a new excited player I think: they have no idea...

12:10 this is so so agreable, i really miss overwatch 1, sure lots of cc, shield etc but there was so many thing to learn, and overwatch was my comfort game and same goes to mercy, her movement overall was so smooth, i wished i had more time and chance to learn it better back then, and big part also the fact that every celebration there is skins you can get for free essentially if you have enough coin, now you have to play, it sucks.
everything pretty locked behind walls, "new game" but they started bringing back cass flashbang and trying to make rein shield more tankier, like you might as well open back overwatch 1, all they do is lie and lie to make you come back. stressing over stats especially with characters like ana and kiriko is so relatable, i was initially gonna reach gold.. was close in overwatch 1 but didnt happen, i dont know im kinda yapping sorry, just feel unnecessary to hype ow2 anymore, with everything they didnt do.. plus in ow1 you can play qp and actually have fun, where if you see now, its just too many sweat, toxicity at its max, you cant even have place to practice hero you want without getting dump with bucket of crap..

I think the best way I can put it is that overwatch 2 just feels directionless and hollow with random change for the sake of change.
Directionless in the sense of pointless character redesigns, time of day changes that ruin art direction, how uncohesive hero select animations seem now, the new ranked system, 5v5 and game direction as a whole.
Hollow in how the monitization changes removed basically all forms of progression, the loss of PVE and any progression of lore, skins for the sake of a battle pass theme instead of things that fit the character.
I know most of these things are "trivial" but the game has slowly ship of Theseus's itself into a compelelty different experience I want no part in. I guess that's what happens when most of the old dev team leaves blizzard.
Comparing it to a similar shooter I love and still do Splatoon and how that series progressed foreward while maintaining the soul of the series makes me sad to see the state of OW.

I absolutely agree with how directionless and pointless ow2 became. Some kit reworks seemed a little like they did it for the sake of "change" rather than what was needed. Progression became bleh, and lots of other things.

As someone who had been playing since ow1 beta it feels like the small nunaces of ow1 are gone. It feels like the solution to everything now is just hard swapping ,especially as someone who used to play alot of tanks. I haven't been able to bring myself to care about the game ever since mauga came out, and they decided to make projectile sizes bigger. Nothing makes me sadder than feeling apathetic towards a game i used to mainline.

you thought you were addicted to Overwatch?? hahaha, just wait until ER clicks for you! now *thats* a game worth playing!!
gotta say tho, i felt that sentiment of yours where you said you lost all passion to play, let alone to improve. the stress of rank, the stats, dealing with toxicity and just general bullshit when life already has enough of that? yeah... it wasn’t fun, wasn’t worth it. it’s hard to find motivation when the game is unfun, unbalanced, counter-dependant, boring and unrewarding. none of my OG friends play anymore, and just the way it plays feels like an uncanny ghost of itself designed to waste my time and money (WHICH IT DID! we all paid for OW1 and they just straight up deleted our game like WTAF???)
…when i realised it would never be the same again, i tried to focus on having fun - until THAT feeling went away aswell, and i just could not find a genuine reason to play it at all after that. none. nothing. that shit is straight up mentally damaging now i swear lol
if you want to find passion for a game again, i promise you Elden Ring and other soulslikes are the experience you’re looking for. they are literal works of art. beautiful craftsmanship, a developer with a passion and an original team with a vision?!? never has a game made me feel like that. i really could go on forever but i shouldnt spoil. you’ll know what i mean when it hits you ;D
anyway, thanks for reading my wall. loved the vid, and i wish you the best post OW-addiction!

I dunno, I just really miss how scrappy old Overwatch was compared to this. Where it felt like you actually entered a back and forth instead of a definite win or loss.
Old Overwatch characters were designed around having a high risk and high reward. Genji, Reaper, Winston, Tracer, you just commit to what you're doing by entering the fray and doing the best you can to sync up what enemies you fight.
But OW2 is catering to this very boring playstyle where characters get a very inordinate amount of leverage for the amount of engagement they need. Widow can one shot you from whole maps away. All ana has to do is sit in her backline and no one can touch her. They get rewarded for minimal interaction.
It's unfun to play WITH too.
Weaver waits around and opens himself up to flank. Ashe will tunnel vision opening themselves up to flank. I just want to engage. And if I decide to play the game, I'm at a net disadvantage cause the enemy has less to target.

I might commit crimes if we go one more season without even CONSIDERING that “certain” changes from OW1 to OW2 were HORRIBLE.
And besides me blatantly referencing 6v6, even UI changes they made were dumb.
Why did they remove level borders? Why did they remove leveling in general? Why did they remove ranks showing? Why did they remove ranks being on the borders? Why did they remove medals? Why did they remove end game cards?
And dear lord, white UIs are disgusting. I will always say that Black UIs>White UIs.
The borders literally look like the Overwatch BETA borders.
They made changes so they can say it’s a new game but people still say it’s the same exact game so why did they even bother? All they did was remove any trace of culture or enrichment that existed in the game.

This isn't the game I felt in love as a teenager back in 2016, it's still a great game itself, but Blizzard has managed it terribly, it might be one of the worst manages games in history. Now, the game is in a better state than a year ago, but that's not saying a lot honestly considering the disaster OW2 was on launch. I still miss OW1, I feel it was a much better game, yes, I'm glad of somethings that OW2 has, like Kiriko, the Sombra and Phara reworks which make me love those characters now these days, but I miss how fun it was to play as a tank having a tank partner to take the lead when you had problems, when 5v5 came in, most of my friends began to leave the game, of course we were not gonna play as much as almost a decade ago, we're all adults now after all, but when 5v5 replaced 6v6 was like the last nail in the coffin, I played tank with a friend back in OW1, right now I'm almost the only one that keeps playing OW, and not as a tank anymore considering how stressful it is to play it now. It's curious to see how the removal of 2 players per match resulted in such a downfall, OW1 had it's problems, yes, but it was still very fun, now it just dosen't feel well anymore even if I still enjoy this game somehow. I still have hopes that the game will improve, apparently devs have finally began to listen to their playerbase, I'm curious to see if they can improve it.
In the end, Overwatch is the perfect example of how to make an exellent game, and how to not handle that game.

I can relate to this video so much. It actually touched my heartstrings, because I like you find it so hard to let go. I've "quit" Overwatch several times through the years even with OW1 but something always brought me back. It's this thought that one day I might feel that excitement like I used to back in 2016 and fomo with the skins. A part of me is still holding out that 6v6 will return and that I'll be happy I invested my time and money if or when Overwatch returns to those glory days. I wanna play Mercy and Kiriko too, but feel like I'm at a disadvantage so often when I meet a Bap, Lucio or Ana. You know the game is in a bad place when you are "forced" to play heroes you don't want/like just to keep up with the rest of the players. As a support main what I always loved was feeling like I could lift my teammates, enable them to pop off. It just feels great when you get that perfect rez or ultimate and turn the tides of the team fight. I've always gravitated towards supports in games, and I think it's for this reason. The fact that you know they really appreciate having you in their team, that you got their back. When they fall, you are there to lift them back up.
Also thank you for the Chrono Cross music

I wish this game could catch a W at some point. I myself am currently somewhat enjoying only one thing about overwatch and that is lucio and his movement. Any time I have to play anything else, it just feels boring and pointless unless I am playing with my friends. The game needs something fresh or rather something we lost (6v6). Your obsession with stats is something I am way too familiar with. I play Destiny 2 where bigger number is everything. I feel like a failure whenever I am not dpsing/healing enough.

i used to play ball soo much in ow1 and literally i played a few games on him at launch as well as his rework patch and i lost all desire to play him. Its so crazy to me where ball was a character i loved playing so much because it felt like you could do anything if you were good enough, i took it really seriously and peaked t500 on console but they completely changed the identity of him. I felt this way with most of the tanks in overwatch 2 where they dont feel like they have individual characters anymore.
Its such a shame because they wrote of 6v6 because they were too prideful to admit they were wrong, overwatch 2 is objectively a failure and the pvp is a glorified shop, they changed a game i loved sososo much and replaced it with this weird corporate simplified look. The pve is a whole thing but i think its such a joke that ow 2 pvp was supposed to release with more than 3 characters but didnt and weve basically been getting backlogged releases up until now
Overwatch 2 released with less features than the first one and adds stuff we already had but done worse (like the level borders being replaced with progression levels)
all the charm and care of the game feels stripped out
I cant say this enough but overwatch one wasnt unfixable they just didnt try, nearing the end of overwatch 1 patches became so infrequent and the balance of the game was left in such a mess and sure 6v6 comes with some issues but i feel that blizzard would of been too ashamed to admit they ran the game into the nowhere because of their horrible working practice, we basically had 2 years of content drought then given a reboxed version which nobody asked for.
Im sorry if all of this is just waffle i could talk for hours over this, i was very passionate over this game as it was the first game i ever really got into and to see the state its now hurts

Oh no don't ever apologize for saying your thoughts on something you're really passionate about (heck look at me ranting for almost 25 minutes about playing ow LMAOOO). I love reading through it all :) Overwatch 2 definitely felt like a version of the game that tried to take a more corporate, "mainstream," approach and twisted itself in a way that completely did not feel like the charm of ow1 at all. The first signs of the game getting stale definitely started around when the drought happened, but I still loved trying to improve and played in that period. I'm at least happy to hear they're trying their best to turn the game back around and introduce the possibility of 6v6 returning, but idk, my hope and passion for the game is just poofed, so I'll definitely have to see how they handle it :)

The thing is, the game becomes where the game controls you instead of you controlling the game. No matter how much we try to help or carry the team, there will always be something that hinders your progress. Due to something like role passives or some other balance changes of certain heroes. It's okay to quit btw. Even though I still play the game for me personally there is no point in taking the game seriously or getting better, considering what they did to the game. Cheers.

Ow1 is very much a nostolgia trip, used to play on xbox, and recognizing names like hxvoc and feenix reminded me of one of my duos who went on a 10 minute rant at like 2 am about hxvoc just because we lost like 4 games in a row to him, and that he was the reason he dropped a rank. i dont get those moments anymore. Not in ow2 atleast... gaming as a culture changed, sometimes for the better but also the personalities of people just isnt the same, i dont get those moments where 6 random people were comming in a game good or bad, its all keyboard warriors nowadays

I started playing OW in late 2016 and all throughout 2017, 2018 and half of 2019 I played it religiously. I was utterly in love with this game and the characters. I mained tracer, widow, zen and dva. I quit in 2019 because I just wasn't allowed to play the game by the devs OR the people I matched with.
I stopped playing tracer (even before dmg stats were visible to everyone LOL) people still cried about me not doing anything for the team even though I was a nightmare for healers in the backline.
I also stopped playing widow because over time the double shield meta became more and more widespread and it got to a point where it seemed like even the most casual team in quickplay full of average joes was playing double shield and for a player like me who spent hundreds of hours practicing my aim, for some casual to just hold right click and immediately make all those hours irrelevant was infuriating. Sure, I could still get some highlights here and there and win a few rounds for my team, but it wasn't nearly as consistent as before at all.
Playing dva I was always the off tank and unless I was eating ults, I was once again told to switch. I'm 100000% sure these were all idiots that were echoing whatever their favorite youtuber or pro player said about dva. I was constantly putting so much pressure as dva and saving my teammates with def matrix but in the end I always felt unappreciated. It's funny that most of my encouragement from the game was actually negative and toxic in nature because it wasn't my teammates who told me I was playing good, it was the enemy team raging and seething over me. When I was doing good, my team almost never acknowledged it and just focused on the one genji that popped off twice during the match, or the pocket heals.
My will to play continued to dwindle over time even though my love for the game was still there. (muting players worked wonders at first for my mental heatlh, but then the man children on my team would start throwing because of it)
Over time me and the friend I used to play with were constantly uttering the words "let's play quickplay to get to play whoever we want" and when I noticed this is when I knew things had been wrong for a long while. Shortly after that, after a couple of "relapses" I quit and started playing monster hunter (which became my new passion) and I suddenly felt alive again. Because of this I knew I was never going back to overwatch.
When OW2 released I decided to give it a try. I thought "hey, maybe I can get to play widow now that there's only 1 tank" but oh man the game felt so off. I stuck with it for a week but I really wasn't enjoying my time with it despite getting to play widow for the first time in years. Since it's release... well... YOU know the rest of the story. Having the game I loved constantly push me away little by little by the devs themselves and the community was sad, and to come back for a week after OW2 only to see it be a shell of it's former self was even more sad. I'll always miss 2016 - 2018 overwatch :(

    • @feenixsarchive
      @feenixsarchive  Месяц назад +1

Ugh I've seen those experiences (from former teammates or my friends) of being told to switch off even though they're leaving an impact on the enemy team and making them upset, but the team just puts the blame on them anyways. It's definitely been tough with the game sucking out people's enjoyment of playing and on top of the toxic community, but taking a step away from it does wonders fs :) I'm glad you found a new passion for monster hunter!

I loved OW1, i really did even during Goats or 2x Shield i didnt care because i could atleast play what i wanted into that
OW2 ruined it, 5v5 ruined it and everything around the game just feels so dull, let me list things that made OW unfun for me
    - Biggest one 5v5, less Teamplay, Tank is miserable, more Counterswaps, more Stomps, 1 Raid Boss tank that cant be 1v1 and just insane Cooldowns
    - Ranked System switched from SR to Divisions, SR is way better imo because you can actually see when you will get the next rank or if youre Top 500 you can see how much SR you need to get there, it was also just mroe fun to see the Number go up everygame
    - Removal of Account Levels / Portraits, OW2 currently gives the players 0 incentive to play besides the BP, but after 80 BP Levels youre done for the Season. OW1 always gave me an incentive regardless of what Season we were in, i could get free Rewards by leveling up or increase my Border Level, and i think OW2 really still misses something like that to keep players grinding
    - The Soundtrack and the HUD are to "generic", OW1s play of the game theme is iconic, the trumpets and the epic feeling hitting was so amazing, OW2s theme isnt bad but its just a bad remix of the Original. Same thing with the HUD, its now so "modern" and has sharp edges which i dont like, or the Killfeed used to be bigger aswell, now its more compact and i sometimes dont even notice it tbh.
    - Events, new OW1 events only really happened in its first year, but those original ones were miles better than a fucking Porsche Collab, Battle of Olympus or the Le SSarafim event. Lucioball, Junkenstein, Uprising, all felt bigger to me, they felt like the whole season revolves around them, they even changed lots of maps to fit the design, but now they just dont do that anymore.
    - They removed our OW1s Ranked Statistics from our profile, this just shows you how little Blizzard cares about the Original Game that actually was good
    - They turned Quick Play into a sweat fest, enforcing penalties for leaving 2 Games, banning people for saying "fuck" or "shit" and just overall removing Social Features like Global Chat or LFG
    - Speaking of Social Features, them removing the End-Game Lobby and the Card Voting System made the game less fun to me, be it the occaisonal trash talk in ranked at the end or just connecting with other players, you cant do this anymore because Blizzard shoves the BP in your face after a game ends
    - Some minor things, the new Ranked Icons look ugly and they dont even display them in your border when playing ranked
I dont know, this was my favourite game from 2016-2022, this was the best Mulitplayer experience i had and they ruined it. But even after saying all that stuff, if they would go back to 6v6 again, nerf Heroes correctly and make it work, i would be all over it again, i would grind like crazy.
So I hope Aaron addresses 6v6 and says they will consider it

I 100000% agree with every point you presented here. Ow2 became counter-watch LOL. Oh the lovely level borders, I'm sad they turned it into "progression" levels (I believe that's what they're called) and it's barely shown to other players unless you look into someone's profile (which 90% are set on private!!!). The HUD looking less "smooth." THE EVENTS UGH they just don't hit the same anymore. I barely played any of the new ones bc they looked boring unlike in ow1. And qp becoming sweaty like comp just 💀 THE END CARDS MY BELOVED. And the missing ranks on your border oml yes.
A lot of things were taken out that made the game special, and they really messed up doing that and playing it off as a "new" game.

its looking good for the community, more and more videos coming out from the casual and pro players on this game and state. and now we are getting Aaron to talk about 6v6 this week I think. I don't know what he is going to say, but as days go by the more people are pushing for a better game.
so many sentiments that are the same, so many facts are said, so many things that were taken away for the sake of "updating". and we have people saying incorrect nonsense about the game is good

@@finalbark462 I just want them to try 6v6 again and actively balance it for like 4 Months, if they dont bring back 2x Shield (which isnt even really possible) people will realize 6v6 is good
Especially as soon as players realize tank is more fun but also more killable, right now Orisa would die after what? 10 Junkrat grenades? In 6v6 she has so much less HP/armor and less dmg reduction, she should die after 5-6
The next dev blog and their stance on 6v6 determines if i will stay or uninstall for good

one day i met this mercy player than said she was top 10 for a couple season because of this guy she met and dated but then he left her for someone else (typical mercy kitten experience :/ ) and she dropped to like diamond or masters (i was boosting an acc when i met her so idr what elo it was). she was telling me how her mental dropped like a rock bc she used to take this game so seriously and equated her real life value to her rank on top of how players just are towards women and mercy players.
im more or less known throughout the cosmos as the most toxic brig player (mostly just bc i wont let people slur me) but that shit had me feeling TERRIBLE for her.
its so sad to hear that youre also a mercy player who has quit overwatch because to me mercy players ARE overwatch. i hope you guys both find a new passion either in or outside of overwatch.

I wish her the best wherever she is!

I can genuinely agree with this honestly.
I am currently in my quitting era and I've been on this game since day 1 of its release and it doesn't feel the same anymore. For me, 5v5 and 6v6, stats or none of the main game stuff mattered.
What really took my toll was the amount of times I had to hear the constant FOMO riding of "This game is back again" and "We're so back" stuff.
We lost PvE (sure. we cant have nice things)
The Patch Notes weren't lining up (Some characters kept getting a weird tun up or toned down when not needed)
Characters needed a constant fix or change in kit to be well suited for the 5v5 (which could have been done whilst the game was in development)
Casual vs Competitive players would never meet eye to eye and it was always such a toxic battlefield that neither can agree on
Its somewhat upsetting when people can't just play to have fun anymore and I feel like this comes in the form of free to play accessibility and the lack of open play between all platforms (switch being a barren wasteland, Xbox actually being somewhat decent to play and Playstation community is toxic as all hell and im from PS). Its amazing that its accessible by default but now EVERYONE just magically gains a "I know everything because I won a single game" just urks me. If I paid some good cash for the game, I wouldn't have to worry about a Reinhardts hammer being $53 CAD. Its FP2 so the additional Microtransactions can happen and its just so rough.
At the end of the day, everyone experience is their own. Mine is slowly diluting to where I am better off playing a different game than Overwatch 2

The game is trash! I NEVER liked ow2. When they first released the closed beta or alpha I played it a few times then immediately stopped and continued to play ow1. Now, I can’t even launch the game without feeling dread about the upcoming bullshit that this game puts me through.
Once I uninstalled my life has honestly improved so much that I’m so mad at myself for not quitting this hot mess two years ago.
