A Beginners Guide: iCUE Version 4 Lighting Tutorial (2021)

- Every few years Corsair makes a major update to their Corsair Utility Engine software (aka iCUE) and in the first quarter of 2021 they released the latest version, iCUE 4. As far as I can tell all the functionality available in iCUE 3 is still here but the user interface has completely changed but if you're watching this video you probably don't care about that do you? You recently purchased a Corsair keyboard, mouse or other peripheral and are looking for some help learning how to use iCUE to customize the lighting on your peripherals. In this video I walk you through making custom lighting effects on an Asus Motherboard, a Corsair Nightsword RGB gaming mouse and a Corsair Strafe RGB keyboard explaining the different effects I use and show you what the end result looks like. Just so there's no confusion; this video is not intended to be an encyclopedia explaining every single option in iCUE. This guide is intended to help those that are new to iCUE learn how to navigate iCUE and then take that basic knowledge and use it to explore the software and figure out on their own how to create the custom lighting effects they want on their Corsair peripherals. Hey, so i was wondering how you got the custom lighting effects. I use the k55 RGB and for some reason in custom i only have static color. Any fix or?
@@NhoJ392 the K55 is one of Corsair's less expensive keyboards and it does not have the full per key back lighting and all the same effects as their more expensive keyboards.

Finally!!! I have had my Corsair keyboard and mouse for several months and had found the iCUE software way too complicated. Your tutorial is perfect, Ive learned enough to jump in and start creating my own profiles, assignments etc..

Thanks man! I have been wondering for a while if I would like razer synapse or icue better, but with this tutorial, it's clear that icue does everything synapse does, but with more pc components that are compatible making icue the better choice for me.
Thanks for video. Just made Christmas profile very happy with results. Never had rgb builds in the past but my newest pc is all rgb in 011D XL so its as much a display case. Wish I had made a profile for Halloween.
My Icue says the lighting is controlled by scenes, and that lighting effects tabs is disabled. The lighting effects only work when icue is diabled and im confused..
I sucessfully installed iCue on Windows 7 SP1, and when I launch the iCue application, it barfs an error dialog "The procedure entry point UnregisterSuspendResuemNotification could not be located int eh dynamic link library USER32.dll." When I click the OK button, the dialog button goes away and nothing happens. Is something suppose to happen?
How do you keep the settings and pics to remain on my H100i led screen? Whenever I close the software, I lose all these changes.
I'm having trouble getting type lighting to work - when I add a gradient layer, it doesn't give me the "Start: on key pressed" option, it just doesn't appear there. Any clue how I can get this working?
I have a pair of virtuoso xt’s and I can’t seem to get them to connect to the icue app. I have the st100 headset stand and connected that with no problem. Any advice would be helpful, thank you
Dude I have the same AIO and RAM as your build! And a ton of Corsair gear. Was really cool watching your tutorial. I love iCue and still after all this time in v3 and v4 I learned some new things I'm excited to try out. Cheers!

Is there a way to completely turn the lights off? I used to be able to on a later version of icue but i cant figure out how to do it now on this version. Thank you
Is there any way to make the rgb lighting effects stay on your keyboard and also not have icue running at all? I first plugged my keyboard in and it lit up, and I made the mistake of downloading the software, now anytime I shut the software down it turns off the lights, I’m not a fan of the high ram usage I get
im watching this now but there is something i dont understand and its that i have an corsair k65 rgb mini keyboard but it doesnt show up in icue what should i do?
Does it save when i X out the window and leave the icue in the background it leaves how you make it stay on all the time

Odd... the icue i donwloaded few moments ago, does not have the scene feature at all. I can't costumize the lights of my new corsair keyboard at all. I don't know what to do. I'm currently redownloading it in case it was a corrupt file involved or something...

How do you add more devices to the list? I have an RGB keyboard that doesn't show up, also have an MSI mb with full RGB that doesn't show up either?
When I had first downloaded this like a couple months ago it worked fine now for some reason I wont allow me to change any lightings in my PC and doesn't give me an option to add lighting or change it all that's there are my sensors and that's it.
My issue lately after updating to 4.0 is when my keyboard goes to sleep it either doesnt light back up (turn on) or just displays red light, even after trying to reload the profiles it gets stuck on that color. It only resolves after killing the processes and or restarting my system. I already tried re-downloading it obviously and re-saving my profiles, nothing works it seems.
Idk why but my iCUE fans in my computer randomly goes to solid purple color when i originally had it set as rainbow. And ive tried to force update and it goes back to rainbow, but goes back to solid purple again after maybe 10min. But if i turn my computer off and on again it goes to rainbow again and 10min again and its purple...
This is great stuff! I have one issue left to resolve and I need your help plz. I have the keyboard, mouse, liquid cooler, memory, lighting strips, 10 fans. I want to run visor mode, but I want it to start with keyboard, then on to mouse, then to strips in case, then bottom row of fans, to the front fans, to top fans, to cooler, and then memory, in that kind of order. How do I set the order of which light hits first to last?
If i close icue completly my ram and mouse rgb doestn save the colors i choose and go back standard colors u know why?
many issues Im having here. First I thought upgrading to icue4 My RTX3070ti would populate... it didnt, but it shows the fan speeds and temp of the card.. how to get the RGB of the card in...Also I thought it would show My Gskill Ram RGB, nope... But from your tutoriul, I have the same issue where my K70 has the 3 memory profiles in there, but nothing transfered... Do I have to delet thoes old profiles and make new ones?
I read in some page they said that Slipstream wireless have the 0,5ms respone. However, It just appear when I connect both the USB and receiver. So is this an error or that is a feature?

How to get rid of it and get back the factory default settings? I want my Corsair Vengeance ram the way it used to be by default before installing iCue. I deleted and uninstalled iCue but those light effects are saved and they wont go away.
Thats a cool video. I just bought k70 pro keyboard but the F keys just stuck as media keys. F1 for example opens up the browser on help page and stuff. Other F keys doing different function.. Can someone help me to stop that and just have their normal function back to normal. Its really bad when I play a game and accidently press an F key

Is it possible to add two functions to one button? For example on "Button D"
On click perform "Ctrl+D"
When press and hold perform "Ctrl+Shift+D".
i'm so confused, i've downloaded ICUE4 and when I start it up, nothing like yours happens. Its a blank user interface besides some system information (i.e. temperature, battery, and load) I only want to change the color of my built in keyboard
i cant access my commander pro. how can i access them?
My apologies if you explained this and I missed it but I have a dark core rgb wireless mouse and I can't get the effects to stay once I disconnect the mouse from the USB. It just reverts to the factory default which is a bit to bright and rapidly changing for my taste. Any one have any advice

When i hold control to try and pick a specific key, it doesn’t let me do it. Instead the entire Zone just highlights. Please help
I just want to be able to use the default FN+ keys while having ICUE running. Having to go to the app everytime I want to change an effect instead of having it saved to an FN key seems counterintuitive. Does anyone know how to do this? Apparently I have to shut down ICUE as the FN keys changing lighting are only an option in hardware mode. Having ICUE running allows me to use custom assignments for the control wheel and G keys though,so I'd rather have both, and just use the FN keys and maybe have the option to customize the lighting effects that the FN + keys change. Is this an option?
New computer from Origin with ICUE. I downloaded several Scenes. HOW do I activate them in ICUE? I followed the tutorial, but it doesn't work when selected.
I know I'm a little late to the party, but I could really use some help! I'm trying to figure out how to set my keyboard to turn off after a certain period of idle time and I can't seem to find that answer anywhere. If you have any advice I'd really appreciate it!
How do you write a Profile to the keyboard so that is in effect even on a computer without iCue?

I need some help with my Asus motherboard,I put a Admin password from Bios but everytime I restart my pc to get into bios the password pops up and I cant get to bios,I even type in the password but when it says to press/spam f2 it still doesn't work,any suggestions?

I have a problem with is saving my profiles and getting them to work properly upon start up. also I have weird shit happen like when i press my mouse sensitivity 1 button my keyboard lights shut off... like wtf
It is as unintuitive as they could have made it. All they needed to do was have simple user step by step choices and a save button. But no that would be too easy. A few lighting effects shouldn't need a degree in computer science to set up.
And to be an even bigger pain in the ass the manufacturers all have their own annoying software.
Corsair fans are not for normies tho. Nobody is installing these on their dell optiplex 7010. QLs and LLs are that high end bizness. Don’t buy the plane if ya to lazy to learn how to fly it. FYI I don’t think your lazy, look where ya left this comment😉 and you clearly have good taste in fans my friend 😋

mine changes the second I click away from the software. How do I select a static profile? Nobody knows.
I've had soooo many issue's with getting my RAM to stay the color I want it to be. I go to static color, choose blue.. it turns to blue... As soon as I even minimize my screen, close it out, or go back to "home", it changes back to Red..... Noooo idea how to do this or what I'm doing. PLZ HELP :( thank you

Anyone else have an issue with iCUE just not detecting a Corsair keyboard? I have Corsair RAM and a Corsair keyboard. Both originally detected in the software and I'd even edited the lighting a little bit on the keyboard. But when I booted up today I noticed just my RAM was in iCUE, no keyboard...

pity i couldnt have advised you before hand - buy the asus keyboard instead - their flag ship wipes the floor with the K95 / K100 - i own the k95 and regret it purely because of the software .....

how do i import a custom profile on icue 4?
Make a profile, click the "..." (to the right of the profile name, left of the SD card icon thing) and click import profile.
Guys please help. I have Sony XM3 wireless headphones with V moda microphone cord. At the computer end of the cord there is one pin. Also i have a splitter from one pin to two pins. I used to use two pins before my son pulled the cord and i think damaged the audio input in my laptop. Now on my setup i also have Acer Predator connected to my laptop. So i decided to take out the splitter and use one hole on my monitor. So basically instead of using double hole on my laptop body i want to use single audio/mic on my monitor and continue enjoying gaming. But when i plug in single pin in my monitor the mic is working from closed lid of my laptop not from vmoda mic. so this is the issue. I am thinking of buying USB to audio/mic converter.
What does this have to do with the video?

I apologize if I missed this in your vid. I installed this software earlier today and everything was successful, but I noticed immediately that the software took control of the keyboard, not allowing me to use any of the existing preset functions. I figured then, I would have to begin creating the customizations on the keyboard in order to use them (have control again). I never proceeded with this, and uninstalled instead. Is this normal upon installation of the software? I'm using a K55 model Corsair, and I was able to view it as the device recognized, but the loss of control of the keyboard made me uninstall. Did this happen to your devices preset functions when you installed the software, if so, how did you regain normal control of the existing functions? Thanks! =).
I have a K70 and what you describe seems to apply to me as well. It's all very confusing. All of a sudden the presets on the physical keyboard doesn't work.

I can't believe how not user friendly this is. Building my entire gaming PC was easier to do than to figure out how to import a profile.

As long as you have fans that support that functionality then yes you can do that. I don't know about any of Corsair's other RGB fans but I know their LL and QL fans support that.

4 of my fans will not go White, they are a dull yellow. So frustrating.
The latest version of iCue does not have Lighting Effects in the keyboard section. States to use Scenes. Update your video to show how you did the keyboard lighting to the new version of iCue?
Is there a way to make certain keys have an effect only when clicking a different button?
For example let's say I want to click R to make the surrounding buttons (E, 3, 4, 5, G, etc) do some sort of effect, however I only want that effect to happen when I click R and not any of the other selected buttons.
First 15 seconds and i completly agree. Like NZXT is so easy to use. But yeah than there is still complicated icue af.
I dont see the toggle switch for play on pressed key. I am running 4.33.138.
Figured it out. You cant have Lighting Effects saved to Hardware.

What keyboard and setup is that for your keys specifically, I want that keyboard!!
The keyboard I'm using in this video is an older model of the Corsair Strafe RGB. As far as I know you can't buy keycaps that look like those however. They do sell pudding keycaps that are similar but I modded the keys that came on the keyboard myself to look like that. Thank you I had a lot of trouble with my keyboard because I didn't know that my wallpaper engine software hijacked it and put it's own lighting on it and put the brightness all the way down. I thought I had broken it, but you showed me in the settings that you just disable those programs so you can add your own. Thank you
How do you select a specific key on the keyboard? I am not able to select a specific key because It only will allow me to select a whole sector of keys.
Not all Corsair keyboards have per key backlighting like the keyboard I'm using in this video. If you have the a keyboard like the K55 it has zoned backlighting and not per key backlighting.
@@Maraksot78 that is the model I have and will upgrade when I get the money to do so.
I have a K55 rbg wireless keyboard and I could only select whole sector of keys as well I thought it wasn't supported until I read the back of the box and it states "dynamic per key lighting" after some troubleshooting I fixed this by uninstalling iCue 4, cleaning the registry with CCleaner and reinstalling iCUE4 after that I was able to set each key to it's own color.
Again this is the wireless version of the K55 it maybe different on the older wired version.
I swear I have had all the corsair gear for a while and I am always struggling with the damn colors. Like why do I need PHD to set my damn RGB? Seriously. Why?
