Hey Brett! I think the 49ers will probably make an assessment mid season to evaluate: 1) What are our playoff chances looking? 2) How far along ins Trey Lance in terms of learning the offense? If their playoffs hopes are gone, Trey will start from that point forward. Otherwise, I think he sits the whole season except for the last week when they rest the starters. I believe this is probably the best way to handle the situation. Week 1 in Las Vegas. I will not be attending the game because I dont think I can afford it. However, if you decide to meet some of your fans postgame let me know and I will definitely be there man!
Hey Brett, I posted a question on your last Patreon rankings post but didn't get an answer, would be awesome if you help a brother out before his draft hah
As a Houston Texan historian, Kyle Shanahan was the OC for the Texans in 2009, and he managed to turn Matt Schaub into a Pro Bowler 💀. I'm sure Trey Lance is in good hands
As a colts fan, I remember that. He had that nasty connection with Andre Johnson, then he got an upgraded version of that with Matt Ryan and Julio Jones lol but man, when they had Arian foster, they were fun to watch.
Terry Bradshaw rookie season (1970) 83/218 (38.1%), 1410 yards, 6 TDs, 24 INTs, 30.4 rating These are not typos. Even Ryan Leaf had a better rookie season.
@@Terror832 I don't think Terry bradshaws a good qb to bring up yes he won superbowls but his stats are crap and would have been benched now days he finished his career with 212 tds to 210 ints
Don't worry I think Brett is fully aware of what power the curse can do lol. Let's just wait and see but I love Trey working with Kyle Shanahan. He can absolutely maximum his strengths but his weaknesses are plentiful.
@@Eric-jz1cv bro don't remind me man. After seeing that video I thought tevin was going to be awesome this year but alias, the curse is too strong. If Jaycee horn gets taken out I think Brett needs to build a fucking bonker to hide himself. 😂
He will start soon enough-Garappolo will not stay healthy. But while he does, I would be starting him. He has spent years seeing NFL disguised coverages, and Lance still has a lot to learn. Also, if I am Shanahan, my calculus is simple: if JG starts and does well, it is good for the team and good for his trade value; if he starts and does poorly, it can eliminate second guessing on making Lance the Starter. So JG starting is a win-win.
I see what you mean personally i think having Lance out there opens up shanahan’s playbook. lance’s ability to run and his ability to throw down the field will lead to more games won in my opinion. People also act as if jimmy is not super inconsistent and inaccurate. He throws a lot of interceptions and it does not seem like he is getting any better. The defense should win games in both situation
we’ve seem what JG can do in this offense, his value is capped as there is enough film on him, if JG gets benched due to bad play they lose trade value on him, it’s about winning and which qb gives them the best chance of winning, throw lance out there from the start so he gets to warm up with detroit and philly then he’ll be more ready to go against green bay in game 3, lance looks like the type of qb that benefits more than being out there and get the pt then sitting back with the clipboard, maybe the chiefs could’ve won the super bowl a yr earlier if reid started mahommes in his rookie yr over alex smith
@@sammythemortgageguy928 Jimmy gives them the best chance to win. He took them to a Superbowl in his FIRST SEASON AS A STARTER. Is Trey going to do that? Probably not! How many good QB's in the past have had a good defense and running game but couldn't get to the Superbowl cuz when it was time for them to make a play on 3rd down or at the end of the game THEY COULDN'T DO IT? Jimmy has ice in his veins and was the BEST IN THE NFL on 3rd down in 2019. It's called being a WINNER and that's what Jimmy G is! Trey isn't there yet so anyone saying Jimmy shouldn't start just wants to see the 49ers lose imo. The only reason they drafted Lance is because of Jimmys injuries. Jimmy will play well this season, take us far, and get traded for a 1st round pick next off-season and then Lance will take us from there.
Minshew just got moved for a 6th round pick, so it's safe to say Jimmy doesn't have any trade value. I keep hearing about Jimmy's statistical efficiency, but Minshew has been better than Jimmy over his career so far, and he is way cheaper.
@@bouji_ that's a stretch. Jimmy has a way better arm, and Minshew is coming off of a terrible year. Jimmy took them to a super bowl. I think a first rounder is rich for him, but he's definitely worth a 2 or 3
With Jimmy G on the roster, there’s no rush to start Lance. Is Lance more talented? Absolutely. But Jimmy G is way more experienced. Lance has a lot to learn, so why put him in when he’s not ready?
Trial by fire.. People learn better from making mistakes than from imagining them. Best way to learn and adapt is to experience it, thats why he should start as soon as possible, and no one can tell me that Mahomes would not have been good to go year one, no one goes from raw-cannot-start to 50TD MVP by sitting behind Alex Smith for 16 games. Mahomes would have been good year one, no doubt about it.
@@paulc7400 Peyton Manning played his first year and was terrible yet he tyrned out alright as well. The decision isnt the same for all players its a decision the coach has to make for each player
I honestly thing that all the rookie QBs went to the right place. Lance in particular went to a great situation. It’s just a question about how the QBs are developed by the organizations that drafted them. We shall see
@@BanterMan101 he’s only taken one bad hit that was mostly his own fault. Once he gets to play with the starters and gets the ball out quicker, he will be fine
I’d vote for splitting the difference. With a roster that intends to win now and a locker room which supports Jimmy….If Trey comes out and inevitably makes his mistakes the team is going to get frustrated that they may be losing a super bowl season to a rookies growing pains. If you start Jimmy and he plays great then awesome. If he falters or gets hurt then at least the team can point to Trey as someone who can potentially save that season.
This is why keeping Jimmy around has been a mistake so far, at least imo. He took all of the first team reps over training camp, so they have to start him now.
@@bouji_ after essentially losing 2 of the last 3 seasons due to injuries the risk of wasting a super bowl roster on a rookies growing pains was too great. At the end of the day the goal is winning games, not just the development on 1 player. If the Niners were to Jags or Jets and you have no super bowl chance then sure. Start the rookie. It is just a rare situation where a super bowl caliber roster is drafting a QB in the top 3
@@pmizz7959 If the 49ers truly believed they could win the Super Bowl this year, then moving a huge portion of their chips into the center of the table for a QB was a mistake. What happens if they do win the Super Bowl with Jimmy? They have to keep him around at that point, do they not? I suppose that's a dumb question because it isn't happening.
@@bouji_ I guess I disagree with your pretense. If they win a super bowl then nothing was a mistake. They won the super bowl. If they won the last one then people still would have said that the team won that Super Bowl and it wasn’t because of Jimmy. And Jimmy is a flawed QB but one you can win with when healthy. He just hasn’t been healthy. The 49ers lost 2 seasons to his injuries so putting chips in to ensure you have a viable healthy QB going forward doesn’t seem all that crazy to me.
@@pmizz7959 Sure, it makes perfect sense if they drafted a new starting QB. Trading that much for a back up is bad process. Of course, tbf, I don't think the 49ers actually planned on having Jimmy for this long. The problem is that the cap took a hit this year, and Jimmy's contract is still in asset in case someone gets desperate.
49ers have a brutal slate of schedule ending early November, against 5 playoff teams from last year and Cards on the road. Jimmy G will start the year, with Lance coming in on certain packages but my guess is Lance will become the full time starter sometime during or after that 6-game stretch.
@@o.t.t5172 because Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, and Aaron Rodgers are all incredible and all of them rode the bench for at least a year before playing. Plus many quarterbacks who are thrust into the game immediately end up getting hurt or just suck because they’re not ready yet, Joe Burrow is the most recent example of getting injured
Theres also examples like peyton manning who got thrown into the fure had a terrible year and improves drastically afterwards. I dont think this is a decision you make based off of what other situations were like. I think its a decision each coach has tk make for each player
@@cows543 counterpoint: Aikman, Manning, Watson, Baker, Herbert There's no doubt Mahomes would've been awesome as a rookie, only know-nothings assume sitting made him better. Rodgers sat multiple seasons, yet still played like a rookie his first season. There's no correlation between sitting and success, people just cherry pick.
@@cows543 so you are saying that Mahomes would not have been as good a QB if they started him most of his rookie season? Interesting. And Rodgers and Brady had star QBs ahead of them.
I think that we follow what Shanahan hinted at from the beginning. Jimmy starts. Jimmy stays the starter unless/until he screws up a lot or gets hurt. Then Trey starts. Evaluation is week by week after that and situational.
If his issue is just being able to establish confidence, start him right now. Kittle, Aiyuk, and Deebo are amazing players for a young QB to lean on and make plays for him at first while he's still learning to play in the NFL
@@thedarkknight9153 Deebo is without a doubt the best YAC player the past 2 years, his efficiency as well as yards created is absolutely insane and no one is even close to him. He's injury prone af but if anything Deebo is kind of underrated, he's a decent route runner and catcher but pair that with his elite YAC and he'd be great if he were healthy consistently. Regardless, he's a great 2nd/3rd option to have for a young QB. Btw I'm not a Niners fan, I'm low on Lance relative to most people but he should be fine to start over Jimmy.
I agree but I wouldn't full on start him right away, I'll give him time in games from week one and see what happens. Putting all the weight on his shoulders from the get go may be too much for him, but you need him ready though because Garappolo is going to break sooner or later sadly.
From what this video shows, he has not adjusted his eyes to NFL defenses yet. So maybe start him after Jimmy Garappolo is injured again might be the best choice.
I love Lance, and was calling for the 49ers to take him as soon as they traded the farm for the number 3 over all pick. Explosive wild card with the greatest young coach in football? Sign me up. But, I do think he could benefit for sitting behind Jimmy for this year, and really learn and adapt to the speed of the nfl, and that’s everything from game speed, to pre-snap, to inside the huddle, to the work load and speed of film study and new game plans week to week. He hasn’t had to be in a full season in 2 years, and especially in the nfl, regular season speed and offseason (including preseason) speed are so far apart it feels like a different game entirely. Let him grow, study, and build chemistry with his team for a year, and then let him lose on a world who at that point would only have 3 preseason games on him over the past 3 years. If San Francisco plays their cards right, they might just have a royal flush on their hands.
This video was uploaded when I was asleep, as I expect from a Kollmann bomb. I always chuckle when I used to hear about this draft analyst wizard named Brett Kollmann from football channels and website articles. Every video confirms my belief that Brett is the best player analyst the NFL has ever seen!
I just turn on, let the video run for like 4 secs, paused, let all the impressions sink in for a few moments and thought: "God damn, I love you Brett." The ambience, the drinks, the topics, your presentation. Thanks, Brett and warm regards from the arising Football-Nation of Germany!
i love that you went into this discussion for your video, and honestly actually totally agree with you, i'm on the side of theres no need to rush this, but theres no denying this team is currently built to basically raise a young QB. they have the defense (they need to get healthy) They have the running game (Trey will make that better) and they have a top 10 offensive line in the nfl. (at the very least a top 5 offensive tackle blocking for him.) on the other hand i think its just better if he flat out conquers jimmy, like he not only is simply more talented than him, but when he just starts out skilling him, and for that to happen he needs more work on his motion and his release, and it wouldn't hurt taking a year to clean that up necessarily if thats what it takes, and it only takes about a year to fix that one aspect. the wait is worth it with this talent.
Can't believe you JUST got an editor, you are gonna blow up this season dude, grind hard. Let the editor handle all that so you can just focus on watching tape and writing. I need to see NFL players react to your video's on them, seeing Lance watch this would be amazing.
I was pretty mad with how often Spagnuolo was dialing up blitzes against Trey in his first game. On top of that, the niners had no starting O-line and the Chiefs had Jones and others in - probably the niners fault in this instance. But I think it was great thing for Trey to see all of those exotic blitzes before the regular season and it will only help prepare him for the long-run.
To me, it seems pretty clear that if the 49ers want to win more games this year, they stick with Jimmy. If they don't care about winning this year then it's fine to start Lance. I feel like if you're paying Jimmy all this money, you might as well use him when he's your best option.
Facts but I feel like they’re gonna do what the dolphins did & put Lance in towards the 2nd half of the season just to see if he’s worth the investment, finally cut jimmy and move on with the newly versatile offense
Multiple decade Niner fan here. I think Trey should probably sit for just a couple games, get over the clutching, the mistakes all that. We have a pretty easy schedule so letting Jimmy Coast for a bit is fine
I like Lance... as a Bills fan... I see alot of Josh & Mahomes in this kid. Just give it time... he has a smart coach & good OC. The Lance pick was a hand pick by Kyle Shanahan himself...he's never had his own QB to work with... it was always a QB that was handed to him that he had to work with. Smart OC's with high talented athletes = success. Gone are the old school coaches like Rex Ryan...that don't know what to do with athletic talent QB's.
Fully understand being torn. i think i flip flopped my choice 3 times just starting this post. I think the best way to delve into it is perspective based. However (despite my waffling) both perspectives landed in the same direction. 1. What's best for the Niners? Given that this is a team built to win right now. i'd say that slowly integrating Trey into the offense (semi similar Lamar his rookie season) & then "IF" there is full confidence that Trey has ironed out some of the confidence issues highlighted w/in this video, they can pull the trigger on giving Trey the reigns late season. This way if Jimmy G is playing well, The organization should accumulate wins, & it drives up his trade value. While at the same time showing Trey they have confidence he can be "THE GUY" for a winning team. This gives the team optionality to feel Trey's progress out as time goes on w/o compromising their win now mentality. 2. What's best for Trey? As a very physically talented QB, with limited starting experience against substantially lesser competition. I do think that developmentally, taking away the pressure to produce right away would serve Trey better than throwing him into the fire & allowing him to play through his mistakes. While learning a job by doing it, usually is the best way to get good faster. it can also cause more harm than good (i'd point to a QB the Niners cut recently as a solid example.... Josh Rosen.) Josh was tossed out there on a team w/ a sucky OL, w/ minimal / no Coaching stability & it wrecked his confidence. While the niners are a more stable franchise than the Cardinals were at that time. we've already seen some examples where mistakes caused a drastic shift in how Trey approached playing the game. These are tendencies that can be driven out of him as time goes on. So while i think that Trey will be a good QB. & it's counter to today's NFL to hang tight on a QB prospect for long (b/c of the Age old adage of "Capitalize when you have a cost effective option at QB" still exists. i do feel that for Treys development. Giving him time to learn, process, & grow before getting meaningful game action is the best approach.
It all comes down to how well Jimmy's playing and how fast Trey's developing if Jimmy has us winning like he did 2019 and rolling to the playoffs you let the rookie sit and gets reps late in games and when games are in the bag could play him in certain situations to utilize his skillset and strengths like near the redzone to confuse the defense like the Saints did but not all the time like we seen in the preseason. If Jimmy's struggling then he may get a shot midway threw the season but the goal with this squad should be to win and start the qb that gives you best chance.
Jimmy G gives the 49ers the best chance at a Super Bowl. Jimmy G can perform well and the Giants, Eagles, Washington, and Texans may want to trade for him. The 49ers are a true Super Bowl contender. No rookie has ever reached a Super Bowl and Lance is not better than the ones that came close
Mezcal fan here. Gotta try the "Ilegal." However, wondering why mix the Tequila and Mezcal when they have different characters/flavors etc. Seems what each would bring to the cocktail would get lost. Well, I've got to give it a try anyway. Great video. Give me hope for Lance. He needs to develop his "off-speed pitches" and touch, although that sideline pass to Surfield was terrific.
The answer is sit him. He needs time to learn to be a pro and Jimmy G is a great person to sit behind and do that. He still has stuff to work on, so let him work while keeping him safe from injury; Once you make the switch you can't go back, You can always make the switch later on
@@HH-le1vi Well, yeah. Most of his development for this season should have already been happening over the past month before the season actually started; nevertheless, Jimmy took all of the first team reps, so Trey is behind.
I wish these comments could break through to Niners fans, the majority of the faithful want Lance to start immediately because of media propaganda. It’s crazy. You could ruin the kid by throwing him out there right away. And it’s true The Chiefs weren’t vanilla AT ALL on defense. And the entire fan base snapped on our young OLine and in turn blamed Kyle for trying to sabotage Trey. It’s unreal how gullible and sensationalized we are as fans. I’m glad someone with an actual command of scheme and recognition can explain what’s going on through chalk talk.
I'm in the sit Trey Lance camp. If you wanted him to get pt, I would have him study a specific part of the playbook ( like just the 2 min drill or just play action plays or shotgun) and just play in those situations. Like what the saints did with Taysom while they had drew healthy... Taysom would only come in for particular looks.
I think the most realistic option is with him in gradually with some Trey specific packages and when Kyle sees he’s ready, he’ll be in after the bye some time.
I personally am a big fan of letting rookie QBs learn for one season to get used to the speed. This reduces the public pressure to perform but gives the opportunity to learn and improve.
I don't know that I can say "he's ready" but even if he is ready I can absolutely say he should not start now...ideally in a perfect world he can sit on the bench and learn from Jimmy G. and to learn more about NFL defenses for a year before he's thrown out there. The big questions are whether Jimmy G can both stay healthy and play well enough to not force Shanahan's hand to start Lance.
If the 49ers intend to play him this season, let him come in midway only if they need a spark on offense. Otherwise, let him sit the year. My take away from the video and what little I've seen of him is he struggles with how quick defense shift and it causes him to either lose sight of defenders or doubt his reads and causes him to be off target. Putting him in too early could really shake his confidence moving forward as it seems to compound over time. Give him some time to learn from Jimmy G and Shanahan and lets see where it goes.
Given that Shanahan has confirmed to the media that Trey will play this year a plan that seems logical to me is that Lance will have specific small packages tailored for him in the first couple of weeks, and dependent on how he handles those reps Shanahan will know if he's ready to become the full-time starter (in essence it seems like the Garoppolo-Lance QB competition will remain competitive well past next week when the rosters are "official", and Jimmy is on a TIGHT leash).
I only see Trey Lance seeing the field more often than not in RedZone packages. How you gonna start a 21 year old in the NFL who hadnt played in 2 years facing NFL defenses. Playing QB is single hardest position in all of sports.
I would like to see Trey Lance study film and learn from Jimmy G this year. He has the arm talent, the explosiveness and the swagger Kyle was looking for. They just have to make him more comfortable reading defenses and being prepared for fast, sneaky defensive calls. Nothing shakes a rookies confidence more than starting and feeling like they are not ready. I think Lance should be put in the same situation Mahomes was. Spectate a year, learn, understand what Shanahan is looking for and wants then come out.
Once you start Lance it’s hard to go back so I’d keep jimmy until the niners are sure Lance is ready and has adjusted to the weekly preparation routine
Man it’s crazy to be in college being a top player in a low division just another college player that watched your videos now i’m getting them made on me
As a big Zach Wilson fan it always bugged me that level of competition was CONSTANTLY brought up for Zach and yet I feel like I didn't hear it all that much for Lance. Even with Zach playing a G5 schedule in his junior year that G5 schedule is still a much higher level of competition than Lance ever had playing in a lower division. People also acted like Zach only had one season of playing time, which is legitimately what Lance had in college, Zach played for much of his freshman year after he stole the starting job from an experienced senior, and his sophomore year other than missing some games for injury.
@@thebeasters yep. Whether or not he will be consistent enough to be effective is way too much of an unknown. I would hate for him to be thrown out there and get demoralized. Some guys don't recover from that.
All of the quarterbacks in this draft look really good so far. I think Trevor might have the worst career just because the Jaguars are such an incompetent team.
And now you understand just how much your location and coaching staff is important to the success of your team, and why i still believe Deshaun wouldve done better in KC than Mahomes (Probably wouldve won B2B championships)
@@LH-wd7mc Mahomes wouldve been murdered in Houston, probably wouldnt have even won a single game with that crappy Texans team last season. Watson was literally the Passing yards leader for the league, AND was almost the Rushing Yards leader for the entire team too.
Starting Lance right now will give him the confidence and experience he needs, sooner rather than later because nothing is better than some hands on learning, especially since he hasn’t played any meaningful snaps in almost a 2 year period. With that being said the 9ers will be 2 years removed from the ‘the young’ Super Bowl team, and with window closing down I’m sure most of the player on there want to win now with Jimmy G at the helm. I’m just glad I don’t have to make that decision.
My reservations about Lance was 318 throws to his name and not having played recently and I think the preseason games highlighted both of those. Passes are coming out wobbly or too strong or a combination of the two. A few were behind guys. People are mentioning the drops by receivers but most of those were precisely because they weren't great throws. Jimmy meanwhile has looked fairly comfortable. There is no universe where Lance should get the start week 1 but I wouldn't mind throwing him in for some specific packages like that fake handoff where he ran for a TD in the red zone. Those plays are going to be hard as hell to defend so I say make it a regular part of the offense. That way Lance still gets some experience.
I like the mid-year switch idea. Let him get NFL speed reps in practice for 2-3 months, and a handful with real game pressure. Ultimately, it will have to be played by ear cuz if JG is ballin and 9ers are rollin, then let the young man ride the wave and learn how to win as a pro. My money is on PSJ getting hurt mid way and there won't be any choice.
I completely trust Shanahan and his system. If lance needs half a season or more to feel comfortable that's fine as long as he starts at some point. And that probably wont take too long
yeah for Trey its just a matter of how many games until he sees his start for 2021. Last year the only rookie QB who had a stranglehold at their spot was Burrow. Herbert managed to get his spot after Tyrod Taylor's sticky medical situation. Tua got his after Fitz went 3-3 and the Fins were in a good spot in their division. I think Shannahan will find a way to maneuver the schedule and put Trey in a situation with his boosted confidence.
I watched every single snap that Lance took in the preseason. He's still got a lot fo work to do, but he is without a doubt the most talented qb prospect the 49ers have had in a while. There is no need to rush him in because they have Jimmy G, so I think if he does play at all in 2021, it will only be for 8 games max, unless Jimmy get injured again. 2021 is going to be a very interesting year for SF
I would start him. There’s a long list of HOF QB’s that had an up and down rookie season. Except, no…for 1 reason. The division he plays in, has 3 teams with really really good defenses, and top shelf QB’s. If he didn’t have to face Arizona’s D & Kyler Murray, Seattle’s much improved D & Russell Wilson and that Rams D (he’ll certainly get acquainted with Mr. Donald) & the gun slinger that is Matthew Stafford, I’d say starting him would be the move. Literally any other division. Just not the NFC West.
I think you let Jimmy G start this year. It's a playoff caliber team and he's good enough that you can afford to let Trey sit for a while. If Jimmy G is successful, it also increases the chances you can trade him this offseason and get some assets.

Trey seems to be one of the more perceptive and quick-learning as well as hard-working QB's in the NFL, so he should be able to pick up the game relatively quickly. However, he has only played in one game all last year and has a lot to learn. I believe Jimmy G and his continuity gives them the best chance to win week 1 but I would not be surprised if somewhere in weeks 4-8 Trey takes over and never looks back

Yourself 🤨
He may be ready only the coach knows his understanding of the offense
@@joshuacrockett4172 Patrick Mahomes sat for a little while behind Smith and he turned out alright. So did Rodgers behind Farve.
I honestly thing that all the rookie QBs went to the right place. Lance in particular went to a great situation. It’s just a question about how the QBs are developed by the organizations that drafted them. We shall see
Trevor didn’t go to the right place. Man oh man Urban is horrible.
Fields didn’t either, it may be a great scheme, but he’s getting lit up by the line.
@@BanterMan101 he’s just adjusting to the speed of the game once he starts getting the ball out quicker it won’t be a problem
@@BanterMan101 he’s only taken one bad hit that was mostly his own fault. Once he gets to play with the starters and gets the ball out quicker, he will be fine
Everyone but Trevor will be fine. You could argue that the Jags trade down a few picks and keep Minshew and draft Sewell.
lotta QB talent in this draft class. excited to see who will end up the best
Mac 👀
Fields
Joe
Fields
I think Wilson will be most talented, Fields will do best and Lawrence will be great but struggle with the Bengals
I’m always a fan of teams having their rookie quarterbacks sit the whole season or at least most of it
Why 💀
@@o.t.t5172 because Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, and Aaron Rodgers are all incredible and all of them rode the bench for at least a year before playing. Plus many quarterbacks who are thrust into the game immediately end up getting hurt or just suck because they’re not ready yet, Joe Burrow is the most recent example of getting injured
Theres also examples like peyton manning who got thrown into the fure had a terrible year and improves drastically afterwards. I dont think this is a decision you make based off of what other situations were like. I think its a decision each coach has tk make for each player
@@cows543 counterpoint: Aikman, Manning, Watson, Baker, Herbert
There's no doubt Mahomes would've been awesome as a rookie, only know-nothings assume sitting made him better.

“Welcome to the NFL rook” was the play
I think that we follow what Shanahan hinted at from the beginning. Jimmy starts. Jimmy stays the starter unless/until he screws up a lot or gets hurt. Then Trey starts. Evaluation is week by week after that and situational.
Peyton Manning said spirals are overrated, I’ll take Manning’s word over Simms
If his issue is just being able to establish confidence, start him right now. Kittle, Aiyuk, and Deebo are amazing players for a young QB to lean on and make plays for him at first while he's still learning to play in the NFL
Kittle = elite
Aiyuk = quite good
Deebo = injury prone and not that great anyway
He's way too raw to start right now. I'd strongly prefer to have him split reps with the 1st team than just throw him to the wolves.
Damn it brett its 1 am you just had to keep me up love australia time zones
I was pretty mad with how often Spagnuolo was dialing up blitzes against Trey in his first game. On top of that, the niners had no starting O-line and the Chiefs had Jones and others in - probably the niners fault in this instance. But I think it was great thing for Trey to see all of those exotic blitzes before the regular season and it will only help prepare him for the long-run.
YESSSIIIRRR. Haven’t even watched the vid yet but I love your content 💪🏽
Well... I already drafted trey lance in a dynasty superflex so.... I'm in it
To me, it seems pretty clear that if the 49ers want to win more games this year, they stick with Jimmy.
Your voice has that festive quality about it... you go bro! 🥰

The answer is sit him. He needs time to learn to be a pro and Jimmy G is a great person to sit behind and do that. He still has stuff to work on, so let him work while keeping him safe from injury; Once you make the switch you can't go back, You can always make the switch later on
There is no more time for development once the season starts unless it's on the playing field though.
@@bouji_ development happens in the film room and practice field before its used in game. You can still develop him without playing him.

Is anyone else asking how this guy is getting All 22 angle film when Gamepass supposedly has it removed right now?
He needs to seat the year out period. We DO NOT want to stunt his growth. Let him learn organically
I don't know about a year, but certainly probably not till the bye week.
He's still way shaky and we have a Super bowl caliber roster
FINALLY A TREY LANCE VIDEO LFG
Don’t know which is better, I’d say halfway through the year seems like a good middle ground
I'll stick with an Old Fashio/Bourbon n or a Sazerac/Rye
If the 49ers intend to play him this season, let him come in midway only if they need a spark on offense. Otherwise, let him sit the year. My take away from the video and what little I've seen of him is he struggles with how quick defense shift and it causes him to either lose sight of defenders or doubt his reads and causes him to be off target. Putting him in too early could really shake his confidence moving forward as it seems to compound over time. Give him some time to learn from Jimmy G and Shanahan and lets see where it goes.
Thought the trade was a bad move. Lance reminds me too much of Kaepernick. Strengths and weaknesses.
Kaep w/less college experience then Trubisky, and that experience was from 1yr prior to the draft.
Trey gonna be a baller
I'm always finished your vid for the beautiful cocktail recipes
I would like to see Trey Lance study film and learn from Jimmy G this year. He has the arm talent, the explosiveness and the swagger Kyle was looking for. They just have to make him more comfortable reading defenses and being prepared for fast, sneaky defensive calls. Nothing shakes a rookies confidence more than starting and feeling like they are not ready. I think Lance should be put in the same situation Mahomes was. Spectate a year, learn, understand what Shanahan is looking for and wants then come out.
Once you start Lance it’s hard to go back so I’d keep jimmy until the niners are sure Lance is ready and has adjusted to the weekly preparation routine
jimmy might want to leave if he realizes that the starting job is not his anymore.

Every game Lance sits and manages calls for JG he gets to see legitimate defensive schemes and see the game at full speed.
I'm of the opinion that a rookie QB should rarely start, no matter how promising.

AYE! Seahawks fan here in Seattle, would be so sick to meet you man!
9 drops total. 1 of them I can credit was on lance. The rest were blatantly on the receiver.
Awesome vid Brett and I love the bootleg football podcast too bro
Thank you! I'm glad you like it!
I’ll be in Seattle week 2! (Titans fan) hope I can see you there
I've always been of the belief that FCS-->NFL is way more daunting than FBS-->NFL mentally. That's gotta be a wild transition.

Hey man, please don’t stop sharing your opinions. Some of your best work in my opinion comes from your heated passion on the subject. You are incredibly knowledgeable and just because you get overhyped from time to time shouldn’t discourage you from putting out your honest opinions. You don’t have some large corporation breathing down your neck so try not to put too much pressure on yourself.

Dude your breakdowns are elite
Hey Brett I was wondering if there was a Mac Jones video in the future and who should be the pats starter week 1, love your videos!
Put em out there!
Brett could we get an episode on Patrick graham's giants defense and how he managed to scheme so much pressure with literally no edge rush last year
THIS
This aged so terribly
A lot of his 2021 takes aged horribly

Trey seems to be one of the more perceptive and quick-learning as well as hard-working QB's in the NFL, so he should be able to pick up the game relatively quickly. However, he has only played in one game all last year and has a lot to learn. I believe Jimmy G and his continuity gives them the best chance to win week 1 but I would not be surprised if somewhere in weeks 4-8 Trey takes over and never looks back
