    14:52 #33 blocking like that and getting it done because he was a QB in college.

    • @PureMagma
      @PureMagma 9 месяцев назад +2

      "...Trey Lance is not used to it." is a critical point being made right there. The QB with the least confidence gets to stand behind the backup O-line and *#33 is at work* standing out because he's on the job instead of just 'playing a game.'

      And if Lance had come out rocking you would be praising how smart of a decision it was.

    • @TheGeorgeD13
      @TheGeorgeD13 9 месяцев назад +10

      @@ch-yq5yn Absolutely and that's not hypocritical. You don't make that kind of trade unless you think he can start right away. That kind of trade should never be done on a project. Ever. Especially for a team that was contending. You can't afford to waste contending years with those picks on guys that can't contribute right away. If he came out rocking, then it was a great decision. For them to immediately have him sit made it an all-time horrible decision.
      It'd still be a great move if he sat for a year and then they didn't hesitate to put him in as the starter the next year like the Chiefs did with Mahomes. But they didn't do that either. Shannahan was never enthusiastic about him to begin with and reportedly wanted someone else. That's an organizational failure to have a GM and a HC not in sync about a big draft pick, especially what they gave up for that draft pick.

    • @sandau44

      @@TheGeorgeD13 The plan was to sit him for a year and start the next. He was handed the keys in 2022, not only underperformed but got injured in week 2. His backups backup came in and balled out, earning the the job of starting QB. Its unfortunate that the big move ended up being a waste, but there was no time to plug in a young QB and cross fingers in hopes that he improves. I doubt Shanahan and Lynch were looking at someone else, because the only other options were Fields and Jones and we all can guess how that would've turned out.

      The bummer is that Trey still put some really terrible film up there in his first few minutes. I don't think he can afford much more of that. When Trey missed that wide open route (@13:35) the broadcast panned over to Kyle and he was just shaking his head in a sort of livid disbelief. Not a good sign. By the time he led the drive to win the game, he was playing against the Broncos' 3rd string defense. So I don't know if it was enough.

  • @hc1883
    @hc1883 9 месяцев назад +77

    lance first drive - 2/3, 22 yards int
    lance last 3 drives - 10/15, 151 yards, td
    first drive ended with an interception on the screen but the last 3 drives resulted in a field goal, touchdown, field goal scores
    again it was against 3rd stringers for the most part but at least lance is gaining some confidence
    but we're also seeing lance actually continuing to start off slow but playing a lot better as he gets more playing time and into a rhythm on offense ... which was the case in the first preseason game vs las vegas too
    lance first 3 drives: 2/4, 9 yards
    lance last 3 drives: 8/11, 103 yards, td
    which makes sense since he hadn't taken a snap or seen live action in a "real game" since week 2 of the 2022 season when he suffered that ankle injury ... so around 11 months
    i mean if you look at lance's preseason combined stats thru the first two games it's not the doom and gloom many think it is
    22/33, 285 yards, 2 td/1 int, 101.2 QB rating
    jury is still out on lance as a whole but for those who think he's a bust or giving up on him are just in a rush to judge his career when he's barely gotten any consistent playing time on the field thru his first two seasons
    even with that purdy likely will begin the 2023 season as the starting QB for the 49ers but it's way too early to come to a conclusion of lance's career and future until he actually gets playing time ... whether that's with the 49ers or with another NFL team
    as a lance supporter i'm still hoping it's with the 49ers but not sure shanahan is onboard at this point as he's really bought into purdy and has had his eye on darnold since the 2018 NFL draft probably before they traded for jimmy g midway thru 2017 and even liked him darnold enough still to even think about trading for him in early 2021 before they moved up in march to #3 where they ultimately draft lance in april, and then signed him on day 1 in free agency earlier this year

      I'll only add one thing. The stipulation of it being against the 3rd string really should stop. He is throwing to 3rd stringers and having 3rd stringers block for him. They weren't doing him any favors early on so let's not act like he did this with the starters against the 3rd string Broncos.

Not out of hate but out of the fact that Kyle is clearly in win now mode with big contracts coming up he wont be able to give Trey those crucial snaps whereas Sam Darnold and to an extent Brock Purdy are proven to be capable. For the benefit of his development and his career Trey should go somewhere else where they’ll focus on developing his instincts. I kinda understand the free man rushing in when the kinda overloaded a side, that takes a real good experienced cohesive line to be able to slide the protection and notice something like that. He was able to diagnose that the route got jumped and he compensated by flicking the wrist to get the ball further upfield to create a second window and avoid the INT. Based on the single-route we saw earlier, it's clear that they're trying to make the game 1-read for Trey and this shows that he is athletic enough to improvise mid-motion.
