So basically Purdy was playing like this in college and everyone just looked past it.
ISU is a lower tier school even if it’s in a P5 conference. If he had gone to Alabama, Oklahoma, Oregon, etc., he’d have been hailed as the next Manziel/Mayfield.
He also didn’t show the arm wizardry that people like Mahomes, Allen, or hell even Zach Wilson showed in their college days that led them to being first rounders

@@stephenshuka2360 Brock did insane heavy lifting for Iowa State but his style of play never required him to heave 60 yard bombs at least once a game is what I mean.

Watching this video in January 2023 is a reminder of why I subscribe to this channel. Here we have a former NFL QB-not a random dude who never made it past high school JV (like me, lol)-doing a thoughtful deep dive into Iowa State’s QB TWO YEARS before he was picked last in the NFL draft.
Agreed, and this is why other than David Lombardi who brings FACTUAL DATA, I don't listen to the morons who never played NFL football! Kurt Warner, Troy Aikman, Tony Romo, Joe Montana, Steve Young, and several former coaches have all said that Brock Purdy is going to be great!
@@brettwheeler7753 to be fair, lots of former players hated Brock. Plenty of people who played the game have very low football IQs. I promise you, if young Sheldon watched football for a week, he’d probably be smarter than most people who played the game.
JT is awesome at what he does, but Just because someone didn’t put on cleats doesn’t mean they don’t have a high football IQ. Vince Lombardi only played a couple years of semi-pro football before he became a high school coach.

Have watched hours of you breaking down Brock over the years. The good and the bad. And the thing you have been most impressed by since College is his anticipation and accuracy.
Purdy is a talented and smart guy. Sooner than later Mr Irrelevant becomes Mr Relevant. After his rookie year on practice squad he'll compete for back up and who knows what will come in future...

Seeing the anticipation and the right guard being beat… this is why he looks so comfortable now with a subpar line. He’s just used to it.

That's cuz I'm pretty sure he was an actual quarterback in the NFL? I'm not positive on this but I remember him even playing for the 49ers briefly. I could be wrong on that however so don't quote me on that.

watching this immediately after his nfl debut yesterday. Love the comment at 13min about his anticipation. You saw it on display yesterday w the throw to kittle and then cmc in the endzone
Saw him live in Houston (preseason). Totally outplayed all the other QBs with nothing but the scrap team around him.
In both that game and this past game against the dolphins, his poise in the pocket and confidence are amazing to me. He doesn’t look fazed by anything. He has this “I’ve got this” feel to him.
He has four crazy weapons around him that know they have to step up. He just has to get the ball in their hands.
I’m optimistic. Could be watching something special.

This has stood the test of time rather well !!!
This player was not on my radar at all before this video and now I have to say I'll be excited to see how he develops and whether he becomes a top prospect. He doesn't have a lot of physical traits that wow you and maybe that's why he hasn't generated a lot of buzz. Some of those anticipation throws are crazy good though. Great analysis. This is stuff you just don't find anywhere else.
He’s gonna be an NFL starter in 2022, I think he could be Bakers replacement, once they want that upgrade to take their team to the next level

Anticipation throwing is what separates great QBs from average ones. Throwing it where they’re about to be instead of just when they’re open. Takes trust and balls.

This was gold and extremely insightful. ISU fans have been critical of their OC and has now been let go. I for one was critical of Brock at times and this help me see things that I was not experienced enough to recognize. Would love to see a similar analysis of a game with Brock’s replacement Hunter Decker who appeared to have more physical skills but yet not as much success.

As a Niners fan, Purdy looked AMAZING in the preseason this year. Accurate, calm and collective in the pocket, good reads, some mistakes here and there but nothing out of the ordinary for a rookie, solid at 2 minute drills. Really hope the Niners keep him, would love to see what he does with our starters 💪🏻

I’m so intrigued by this dudes journey and am really rooting for him to be a success. I think his intellect gives him confidence to throw with anticipation. He was throwing into relatively small windows a few times in this game and I can see how that translates a bit. Still it was a huge risk drafting him. He may not have the ceiling of others but his floor is high. Great kid and I’m seriously rooting for him.
Excellent! Purdy was my 2nd favorite QB in this class (after Lawrence) before this video but haven't seen anyone else besides me willing to put him above Lance and Fields. I was wondering if I was just way off base. Not assuming you're also putting him up that high, but your praise helps validate my evaluation somewhat. Especially, after there was a report that came out recently that NFL teams aren't viewing him as a first rounder.
I think purdy will go in the second round to the browns. They need someone who can throw the ball more than thirty times a game, including under pressure, and on the move, without turning the ball over, aka Baker Mayfield.

The 2 pt conversion shows the importance of pass rush. He had a man in face before he could make the right read. Props to the coach for going for it too. Knowing the strength of team was the offense. Bet the OU coach tipped his hat watching the film of that game.

Anyone here wonder how this kid was missed by all 32 teams multiple times!? I think had he played for an SEC team, he'd have gotten more recognition. Either way, he's playing amazing football and you can see that even in these few years, he learned from his mistakes and just keeps getting better
