And if one tenth of that CO2 was instead carbon monoxide we would all be dead within minutes. Even concentrations as low as 0.0001% of CO are fatal if you are exposed for an extended amount of time. Funny how such a small amount of gas can be something to worry about...
But this congressman doesn't even understand the difference between seasons and climate, so I wouldn't expect him to grasp such an unintuitive concept as "trace gasses in the atmosphere can reflect infrared radiation"
Edit to say: Just realized I forgot to move the decimal in my conversion of PPM to %. It's actually 0.01% of atmospheric CO that would be lethal to humans. My point still stands however. Trace amounts of gasses can't be written off as "harmless and irrelevant" simply because of their low percentage.

Senior management at a global level were involved in the discussions, and it was clear that they were very concerned about the implications to the business, due to the high levels of CO2 that our industry produces. The fact that cement is absolutely necessary to build houses etc that will last decades is not taken into account either. Fossil fuels are literally life-saving to an enormous percentage of the population, and were being harvested in a way that resulted in a net-zero carbon contributing footprint under Donald Trump. The use of fossil fuels means less deforestation as people no longer need wood for energy. It means carbon emissions that function as plant-food. It means lower cost for everyone, and there are at least 300 years worth of deposits for the entire world on US soil alone. You don't think in that time a better or more "sustainable" energy production method could be developed?
