I’ve also witnessed some very comprehensible questions that were not actually answered - the respondent answered a different question than the one asked. Both sides of a conversation can break down. Then, on the other hand, some witnesses - such as Kerry - plan ahead to obfuscate any fact-finding by throwing around a lot of irrelevant issues.

Generally a person does not get elected to the Senate unless they are fairly intelligent. Not always, but most of the time. You can't say the same about the House, it has always been that way. I listened to him for 15 seconds, watched Kerry's eyes roll thinking "man we have some intellectually challenged members in this chamber". But with Republicans, well a lot of them, that is their culture now, a contempt for scholarly analysis if anything, their minds seem to be pretty much shaped by cable news, like most of the rest of the public.

I think your expectations are reasonable. But there have always been questionable people in all walks of life. Politics, military, police, doctors and nurses are all places where you find people that exploit their positions. Hell, even some friends will steal from you if they have the opportunity and dont think they will get caught.
In this case that prompted your post, I'd say the media is doing its job (by just showing you, and not spinning it). You got informed by getting the raw information (rather than some reporter misrepresenting it). If you get to vote for (or against) this guy, then he gets to pay the price for pi$$ing you off this way.
My point was just that there are always people this poor at what they do, and the media's role is to call them out on it.
And they generally dont, so it gets worse. Media needs to be more honest and call out the bad politicians so you get to vote them into the unemployment line.

Tell me about it 3 words into the response and he interrupts like douche....I know a bit about Kerry and nothing about perry but I know that those manners are learned at a very small age and it's sad to witness it on a representative our democracy.
Each congressperson only has a set amount of time for each witness(es) at the table, ~5 minutes. This time limit includes the time it takes for the witness(es) to respond to any questions directed at him. If the congressman is lucky, he MAY (eventually) get another round to deal with the witness(es), but usually not.
Given the circumstances, 5 minutes is not very much time at all. Particularly when you're dealing with uncooperative witnesses who are intent on wasting time with bombastic answers to questions (as Loretta Lynch has proven to be good at).
I'm not saying you don't have a point. I get frustrated with congressmen not letting witnesses answer questions myself. But understand that it's not as simple as giving someone as much time as they need to answer. Each congressperson is on a time limit, and unhelpful answers only aggravate an already less-than-ideal situation.

As always, there were many factors. The incumbent always has an advantage, for instance. Another is that the news media has been giving lopsided coverage in favor of Republicans since at least Reagan. But one thing that is considered a big factor in his particular case was that the Bush team turned one of his biggest perceived advantages (his military service) into a liability by lying about it. Scott Perry makes me embarrassed to be from his district. Incoherent questioning, talking over the respondent, grandstanding. He fell for the oldest trick in the book - you never question the integrity of a veteran in politics. Kerry gives him the comeuppance he deserves.
In a second, one nuclear weapon would kill a thousand times more than all the incidents representative Perry mentioned put together. He is dealing on one level while nuclear weapons are on an entirely different level.
Kerry needs lessons in: honesty, candor, citizenship, patriotism, commitment to public service, maybe more on honesty again....it'll need reinforcement.

J.K at some exact point in this conversation sounds almost exactly as that of a tv voice from the past on what was a Murder Mystery show about real crime cases. It is interesting how two people can sound similar in their voices. Unrelated in some sense but something noticed. The tie in, is that people are murdered, people die, in all kinds of ways, the world has had, has evil, evil individuals, evil actions in it, some individuals who give themselves over to evil. That shouldn't provoke tensions, prompt tensions and at the same point it definitely should. The political arena has for a long time, been a tough industry, seem J.Kerry has built up himself firm enough not to tolerate an experience of disrespectful exchanges but at the same point that be said, the younger buck might be presented it as information, history of facts for open discussion and an exchange of ideas.
