Nearly 72 percent of all job gains since 2021 were simply jobs that were being recovered from the pandemic, not new job creation. In fact, when looking at today’s economy compared to pre-pandemic levels, employment is up only by 3.7 million, not 13 million. On the other hand, in his first 2.5 years, job creation under President Trump was 5 million-1.3 million more jobs than the current President in the same time frame after factoring in the recovery from pandemic.

I live in upstate NY and I've had an EV for 5 years... range loss is less than 20%, even down to 0 F. Range, even in winter, just isn't an issue. @@charliepastrami2813 Two of the three EV's that my family drives were bought without subsidies. That's because I did the math and they're less expensive to own and operate than any comparable ICE car. Granted, I'm comparing them to fairly expensive ICE cars like Toyota Camrys and Honda Accords. So the subsidies are lowering the costs of an EV to the point that a really nice EV is comparable to lower end ICE car. But there are two things happening that will make EV's even more affordable. First, EV manufacturers started with high-end vehicles and are now moving down-market. Second, is what's called Wright's law. It says that the more things a company makes, the lower the cost to make them. Tesla, for example, has grown by more than 50% per year for over a decade, and their costs are coming down with that growth. Add that to a mass-market vehicle coming soon, and you have EV's that are affordable for nearly everyone.

I would never have bought an electric vehicle either if my brother had him convince me that I was three times more likely to be seriously injured in my Toyota Highlander, then in a Tesla. Long-term the tester will save me money in fuel and maintenance. Short term they’re much more fun to drive. They are more relaxing on the long highway drive because of lack of noise and vibration. Range anxiety is never an issue because the vehicle tells you exactly where to go and for how long in order to get to your destination. I watch my fathers drive and get worse as he aged and would’ve done well to have the accident avoidance system that Tesla has, if not go to full distance to full self driving, which would’ve Made it safer for him and other drivers on the road.. You cannot say at this point that you would never drive an EV because you’ve not received a fair evaluation. I’ve convinced 23 of my friends are by Tesla over the last five years and everyone of them is grateful I did so. Not one person backed out and everyone of them continues to drive Tesla. It’s also the car with the greatest American content.
We have an EV, and I wouldn't buy another one. Can't use it to visit family in a neighboring state, as there's nowhere to charge between here and there, and charging takes too long, anyway, which would turn a 3-hour trip into a 5-hour trip one way. My husband bought it because it was a novelty, but he complains about plugging it in and blowing circuit breakers if we try to use a vacuum cleaner that's on the same circuit when the car is plugged in. Sorry, but they're not ready for prime-time.
There are some valid arguments to be be made but this isn’t one of them. Where in the country do you live that you can’t get to an EV charger and what horrible ranged EV did you buy? (doubt that you bought one). No way does a 3hr trip turn into a 5hr trip. I’ve driven 14hrs in the winter and at 80mph and only spent 2.5hrs charging total. And IF your circuit breaker is tripping because of the EV car and a vacuum then you got a bad electrician or you did it yourself and you had no idea what you were doing.

(See TRUE COST of ELECTRIC VEHICLES) Electric cars cost $330 per year less in maintenance, according to AAA, or $3300 less over ten years. The average owner can save up to $6000 over an EV's lifespan, according to Consumer Reports. That's in addition to up to $7500 in tax credits for buying one. Yes, EVs in the U.S. cost more upfront but they save consumers money in the long run. In China, where the industry has already scaled up, EVs are CHEAPER than gasoline cars. Price parity in the U.S. should be reached in the next three years, according to Car and Driver magazine. According to Autoinsurance EZ, using figures from the National Transportation Safety Board, EVs are 10 times LESS LIKELY to experience a fire than a gasoline car. EVs' rollover rate is significantly lower than gasoline cars, due to the heavy battery's low center of gravity. It's part of the reason EVs have a 40% LESS death and injury rate than equivalent gasoline cars. EVs front end crash test results place them with the very safest luxury gasoline cars. EVs have instant torque, allowing you to get onto the highway far quicker than an equivalent gas car. Last but not least, emissions from EVs (from their manufacture and from their energy sources) are significantly less than that of gasoline cars, even in states that produce most of their power from coal, according to a two year study by the Union of Concerned Scientists.
Politicians who vote on bills should have to 100% follow that bill themselves. They frequently make sure those laws do not apply to them. How the heck is that acceptable? Those are not only factored into this push but a primary focus. 'They" don't want you to own an EV, the grid can't support it & the limited range falls in the middle of 15 minute cities & the gov't need to limit your travel. No private EV means to rent a public share EV with a gov't app that you need premission to use & answer the questions of where your going, with who, for how long etc. The purpose of these EV's is to stifle our freedoms not 'save the planet". Look at the mining needs for the batteries & their life expectancies / disposal costs, suddenly it makes more sense what they're pushing
1) Semi true but that implies all luxury cars above 40k are expensive and it doesn’t stop people from buying them 2) The GRID is outdated and needs to be fixed (which they are working on) 3) EVs nowadays get about 300miles of range. 99.9% of the time, people use far less than this with the occasional trip further. These are terrible talking points Regarding subsidies, the oil and gas industry is also subsidized. But we won’t talk about that. Is the nation ready for 100% EVs in the next 10 yrs? no way. But the turnover of cars is such that 100% adoption is a good 30-40yrs away - most of the gomers will be dead by then.
@@EternalTL2k3 Do you believe a grid will ever be built which can supply EV charging, all the household energy needs (including A/C's) transportation needs beyond EV's & industries? One which doesn't go on revolving power outages? A sustainable energy grid without any fossel fuels?

That's because I did the math and they're less expensive to own and operate than any comparable ICE car. Granted, I'm comparing them to fairly expensive ICE cars like Toyota Camrys and Honda Accords. So the subsidies are lowering the costs of an EV to the point that a really nice EV is comparable to lower end ICE car. But there are two things happening that will make EV's even more affordable. First, EV manufacturers started with high-end vehicles and are now moving down-market. Second, is what's called Wright's law. It says that the more things a company makes, the lower the cost to make them. At 77 y/o I believe I can say with little doubt that I’ll ever buy an EV. My 10 year old Toyota will keep rolling for another 100K miles.
Don't you know were are saving the planet by using the Ev's ? While we are destroying the environment in the process of making these "green" vehicles
Electric cars cost $330 per year less in maintenance, according to AAA, or $3300 less over ten years.

This pretty much explains why we can't go all EV right now:
1) EVs are expensive.
2) The gris is not sufficient.
3) EV batteries have limited range.
1) Semi true but that implies all luxury cars above 40k are expensive and it doesn’t stop people from buying them
2) The GRID is outdated and needs to be fixed (which they are working on)
3) EVs nowadays get about 300miles of range. 99.9% of the time, people use far less than this with the occasional trip further. These are terrible talking points
Regarding subsidies, the oil and gas industry is also subsidized. But we won’t talk about that.

Cell phones, cars, and computers started the exact same way. They were expensive at first, then as the technology advances, everyone has one. It always starts this way. When we adapted cars, people who maintained horses lost their jobs too. But we kept going for a better future, and it works every time. Conservatives always spread fear around change. Don't fall for it.
Little Pete can really hit those high notes WOW
Watching this conversation was like an intelligent adult, the Congressman, trying to get an honest answer from a child who just got caught stealing money out of their fathers wallet. He cannot get out of trouble, but trying to convince them there was a reason for doing it.
whomever wrote "screaming" match has NEVER seen/heard/been involved in one.
Why can't they just put both EVs and ICE on the lots and let the consumers decide what they want to drive
Because consumers might make the "wrong" choice and choose the car that the government doesn't want them to choose; we certainly can't have THAT. . .
I agree and without any financial incentives for buying an EV. It would also help to bring the price of gas to what it was in 2019 to really see how the EV's do not sell as much.
Never think a guy who thinks it's a good idea to take it up the tailpipe by another man is sane. He can never tell me or adviser me of a damn thing.
Here's some shit Pete knows that you apparently don't:
The electricity required to drive 15,000 miles per year in a compact electric vehicle costs an average of $546, while the amount of gas required to drive the same distance costs $1,255 (or 130%) more in an equivalent size gas car, according to AAA. (See TRUE COST of ELECTRIC VEHICLES)
Electric cars cost $330 per year less in maintenance, according to AAA, or $3300 less over ten years.
The average owner can save up to $6000 over an EV's lifespan, according to Consumer Reports.
Tax credits up to $7500.
EVs have instant torque, allowing you to get onto the highway far quicker than an equivalent gas car.
EVs cost more upfront but save money in the long run. However, EVs should reach price parity with gas cars as the industry continues to scale up. In China, EVs are already cheaper than gasoline cars.
Pete taking it up the ass is completely irrelevant. The question you should be asking is, does he know his shit? The answer is, clearly, yes.

I'm guessing that when Pete showed up to this hearing, he was dropped off at the curb by a big black gasoline powered Suburban or Tahoe. Just a guess.

Thank you Scott Perry!! BUTTIGIEG NEEDS TO GET SCHOOLED ON HOW REALITY WORKS!!
I wish they would of asked the secretary how is the average American making 15.00 to 20.00 an hr going to afford a EV at the cost of 60,000. Dollars each and that the low end of ev's. I would like to hear that answer.
@@nancyhewitt858
Why are you thinking of the "today" only? EV gets cheaper and cheaper and eventually it will be cheaper to buy and own an equivalent EV than a vehicle which relies on hydrocarbons. Also the cheapest EV costs 27,5k at the moment. At least in the USA. In other countries it's cheaper. I could buy an EV in Germany for 15,5k€, which is ~16,4k USD. And of course then there's also the used marked. The cheapest used EVs are around 4k€ (~4200 USD).

These elites are so arrogant and smug!
Yes, and they are so deluded that they think they control us and are our bosses.
You are investing our money into things we don’t want … such a powerful line.
Um, lots of us want EVs. I get really tired of people like Perry assuming that we're all a bunch of backward bozos who don't want to move forward into a future that gives us a chance to avoid the worst effects of global warming.
And there is no reason why auto manufacturers should be fighting this transition because it absolutely is the case that either we build these cars, or we get left behind when China builds them. And then they will indeed lose all of these manufacturing jobs - to China.
@@hoosiermama8738 the only place EVs work on wide scale is fantasy land
If the American consumer can't afford to buy new cars, maybe the big Three manufacturers should make their cars more efficiently and pay their chief executives less money.
What a wonderful idea!!!
That's why I drive a Toyota. It's got well over 200,000 miles and purrs like a kitten. Toyota is NOT going E.V. as their main product. They don't need to. Their cars are exceptionally engineered.
@@timwhite5647 Mr. Toyoda, not a linguini-spined executive, has stated that his company will build vehuicles suited for the needs and demands of buyers in ALL markets. Said another way, the African who totes jerrycans of water down a dirt track will continue to be able to buy a small gas-powered car. The American woman with a postgrad degree from an expensive university will be able to buy her luxury EV. And the rest of us will have a range of ICE and hybrid cars and trucks from which to choose. Back before Tenwatt Buttgiggles and his kind took over "central planning", Mr. Toyoda's approach was called good strategic, market-driven thinking.
