People 200 years from now will be listening to, and analyzing this man's catalog. How neat to have lived at the time he was creating these masterpieces.

Solo horn is Jay Wadenpfuhl. Probably one of John Williams' most difficult horn solos to play under pressure. Jay's performance is nothing less than stellar! RIP Jay.

The layering of the brass parts in this piece always blows me away. The solos by the trumpet and french horn convey the elements of mourning, majesty and malevolence. A breathlessly beautiful piece of music. Williams is a master at his craft.

I get chills when I listen to John Williams’ masterpieces. Having sat next to Tim and near Jay, I can tell you their artistry matches that of the Maestro. I will miss Jay. He was such a beautiful soul and a magnificent French hornist. The Boston Pops is part of my past, but will be a part of me wherever I go. Tim, who no longer is performing and lives in Pasadena, is still a friend and we get together every now and then. This music is simply beyond sublime!

@ 8:39 When John Williams just looks up at Wadenpuhl and just gives the OK to do his thing is actually epic in it's own right. When you have EVERY confidence in your musicians. And Jay played absolutely PHENOMENAL here!!!!

  • @ComposerConductor

The score is an incredible gift for us composers learning the stirring, sweeping, hymnal scoring with strong melodic theming, something that is disturbingly getting lost in today's films, more and more. The suite is 46 pages, and worth every penny.

As an ex pro, I can tell you this horn solo is quite difficult, especially with all the loud playing ahead of it. You can let the assistant play a bunch of the loud stuff, but still..it’s definitely scary to know it’s all you by yourself..there’s no where to hide!

This soundtrack is one of Williams best..the somber tones of the trumpet dissolving into the whimsical flute/clarinet section.
Then straight to the underworld with discord only to periodically come out into a triumphant leitmotif..great.

Tim Morrison is a god on trumpet to me. He just milks everything and has plenty of power when he wants it. Of all Williams movie scores this one means the most to me as I was 13 when JFK was assassinated. John Williams isn't just a great composer, listen to his scores. This one if perfect for the character of JFK, now "With Malice Towards None" from Lincoln is just as appropriate for all time.

It is the way he goes for it and hangs on to the note at the end. It is a fantastic, bravura, dangerous live performance of the highest standard and you can see how much he has put into it with the sigh he makes he takes it away from his mouth at the end. I have not heard him before but this is special playing.

Song is both beautiful & haunting. It’s giving me the feeling of what could of been if it weren’t for tragedy… who really knows for sure perhaps if Kennedy was able to finish his presidency Vietnam could have escalated even more & could have led to WW3 sooner like Stephen King writes about in his book. Doubt it but who knows…

He probably had this thing memorized. The trumpet can be your best friend or your worst enemy. For a split second there, the physics of the instrument worked against him. It's called being human. Trust me, he knows how it goes.
