    Absolutely spot on fast tempi. Luscious sound from dedicated players. One or two slips in intonation from the brass, but, hey, so what. This is live art! The subject is in part the rugged power of the wide open plains. Nothing dainty there! Thank you from all my heart, Andrea

      This is one of my favorite film scores. I noticed the little mistakes of the brass too, just little. I can always hear the original from the film in my head. I also noticed in the first part the tempo was a little too fast.

      Köszönöm a hozzászólásokat, nagyon sokszor, sok feldolgozásban hallgattam már ezt a zenét. Azt hittem, csak én hallom a hibákat. Ez valóban élő, koncert zene, nem stúdióban készült. Minden apró hibával együtt szerintem is csodálatos! ❤

    Too me, there are few things in the music world more inspiring than watching a full symphony orchestra working together with utmost precision to create magnificent sound. This music is from my favorite Western, "The Big County." It's equal to anything by John Williams, and make no mistake, I love his film scores. He's a bona fide genius.
    This score was written by Jerome Moross for the 1958 film.

    Without a doubt this is one of the all time greatest scores. My kids have always humored me as I describe what’s happening in the film as the music continues. I’m saddened that Mr Moross didn’t write more music. I believe he has one classical piece. The Big Country in my opinion is iconic and just fun. Though a serious film for the most part. The cast is stellar and who doesn’t love Gregory Peck? There are too many illustrious performances to mention. Sorry for gushing but I think the film and score are just that good. Thank you so much for posting this fabulous performance with the film ad background. Marvelous. PS😊

      I completely believe the same. I think it's one of the best Western compositions. Burl ives won an Academy award. If you didnt know, about 3 or 4 months ago a remastered blu-ray came out and it's awesome they fixed the color in scenes like peck and Heston's fight at night.

    • @gregfieg482
      @gregfieg482 Год назад

      Yes, brilliant is not enough to describe it. I remember reading that when he was hired to write the score he drove by automobile to Los Angeles, coming west down the huge hill into Albuquerque, then a sleepy little desert town of 35,000. Having traced that path, I feel I can hear the cadence and breadth of those environs, which helped set the scene and tone for the music. He wrote other scores later, but never achieved this again, nor anywhere close to it.

    A great music score like this seems to bring the musicians a bit closer to the instruments as you can tell they really are enthusiastic about this suite. I see people from all over. What is wrong with us? Look how music brings us together, and art does that, too. We need less politicians, and more music and love.

      The East Indian scriptures, from centuries before Christianity relate the insatiable nature of the mind to think and think endlessly. Mind or manas, is man's essential nature, however it's incessant chatter looks to find solace in devotion, where it finally takes refuge. The present age with all the unnecessary over-thinking, concerns about ego, power and social-standing, have manifested into an abundance of political nonsense to the wise. And that's what we see. As music is quintessential for calming the mind and reuniting it with devotion, it's not at all surprising the power inherit in it and what could reasonably quell the modern-day, endless drive towards insanity. Having said that, Jerome Moross created a marvelous musical score, which really captures the essence of America's ventures out West, into the wild and untamed, unknown! It really allows one to imagine and feel it's intensity!

    The Big Country Has Been my favorite since I saw it at the Theater in 1958, in Texas.
    'I never get tired of it because of the sound track one of the best Charlton Heston, Gregory Peck, Jean Simmons, Burl Ives, Chuck Connors.
    This Video left out the stagecoach road ride arriving at the little town of Abilene, TX and the showing the horsesat full speed zooming in on their legs with the main theme intro and the Henessy's "Big Country Welcome to the Dude with Fantastic Trick Riding and Harassment on the "Big Country Welcome" follow up
    Still great music sounded like Jerome Moross version in 1958

      Not exactly. In his early years, he played different types. "The Riflemen" locked him into "nice guy" roles. In later years, he got back into playing interesting, unsavory characters.
      When asked why he was "suddenly" playing creeps, he replied that playing brutal jerks had been his bread and butter before he became Lucas McCain.
