- Hostess Cupcakes were one of those childhood treats that my husband Jeffrey grew up enjoying. I was working on cake recipes when we realized we had recreated the flavors of Hostess Cupcakes, and so this new recipe was born. This could very well be our best dessert recipe so far! It still amazes us after all these years that we can achieve this decadent flavors and textures with whole food plant based ingredients that are gluten-free, refined sugar and oil free, and absolutely delicious.

OMG OMG OMG. Game changer! I made these last night and added the cream and frosting this morning. Healthy breakfast.
It's what I usually serve as overnight oats but now in creamy cake form.
I told my kids to tell everyone at school that their mum gave them cake for breakfast😂.
This is next level whole food goodness.
I will never make cake with wheat flour again. This has better texture. I am making these every day. So easy.
How can something so healthy taste so good. 10/10 taste and 10/10 health rating. Yum Yum Yum.

I made these yesterday and not only are they DELICIOUS but they also gave me sustained energy like you wouldn't believe! I'm 21 weeks pregnant and you should have seen me running around with my toddler, spinning him and tossing him, he had so much fun because I felt so good!

Hi, Line from Norway here. I have baked this many times, and we just love them. The last time i replaced the oatmeal with buckwheatmeal, and the soy milk with coconutmilk. The texture got soo silky and smooth. I recomend to try it :) thank you for so many really good recipes❤️
Since the oatmeal had to be ground, the volume would be less than a measuring of the one cup. Weight should be the same. So my question is did you use a full cup of buckwheat meal or scant cup?
These look so yummy! I have a terrible sweet tooth and since I started your plant-based course a month or so ago, I have found that your dessert recipes have helped to keep me on track with WFPB eating. What is amazing about your recipes is that "Just one" satisfies my craving for chocolate without sparking an addictive response to sugar, so I actually can have just one. So happy I got myself back on track and find my energy is consistent through the day and week. I"m a teacher and for the first time in 25 years, I didn't feel completely wiped out at the end of the school year. I had been really struggling with online (in Ontario, where I live, we were online again from April - end of June). I started your course in May and within a week my energy was so much better. I wasn't exhausted every Friday evening and, as I said, I ended the school year strong! A bonus is that I'm nearly 2 inches down around my waist. So grateful for all you do! Thanks

That's truly the amazing thing about wfpb treats. They satisfy without being a trigger for more. I didn't think (as someone who was a lover of baking) would get over the addiction but I truly love my wfpb life! Congrats and hi from Ottawa. 😀

My daughter made these for me tonight, and they were absolutely delicious, they definitely satisfy a chocolate craving. And One is actually enough, that’s something that I could never say about non whole food cupcakes, one was never enough. But with these one is enough, that’s the power of Whole Foods. The great thing them being whole food plant based is you can have these for breakfast without a sugar crash, as a snack or (since they’re oats, nuts, dates) theyre a reconstructed oatmeal so it’s a meal
Im an Aussie so ive never heard of Hostess cakes or Hostess anything! but im pretty sure that pattern on the top is cursive or running-writing and it spells Eeeee! Maybe cos thats the noise people make when they see these? : )
Because they are so nutrient dense, I'd hope that I would only eat 1, no more than 2! They look DELISH!
I mean.. whole food plant based right? So no matter what your eating healthy 😆 there’s no guilt!

Okay I expected this to be pretty good since I’ve tried a few other recipes of yours, but I figured I’d miss the hostess cakes just a little bit since I haven’t had them in years. Was not expecting it to be this delicious and to prefer this over the actual thing. You are a genius! Thank you for this recipe, I will be making these again when that sweet tooth takes over!
First time baking something. My father sent me this video and it’s 10:15 p.m. and they’re in the oven. Hope they come out ok. I mistakenly got roasted whole cashews instead of raw and didn’t get enough dates. But I had fun licking all the spoons.
I saw this and immediately called over my daughter. She was confused why I’m so exited. I drooled on her… I’m not ashamed

Loved your recipe! Today I used it just to make regular cupcakes with no cream.
I tried to replace 1/3 cup of oats with quinoa cereal and I also added 1 tbsp lemon juice to the liquid ingredients.
The cupcakes came out so fluffy coz baking soda and baking powder react with lemon juice and make bubbles in the batter 😋
How do you get ceral from quinoa ?

I can’t thank you enough for these recipes! I make them. I freeze them and I have something to eat when I need it. I don’t have to eat crappy snacks my hubby eats and won’t give up! And I agree with others: I don’t feel yucky, no crashes

This recipe is fantastic. I’ve made it twice. I use a little less cocoa than the recipe calls for and added about 1tbsp applesauce to the frosting. I also recommend soaking the dates for the chocolate frosting, it makes blending much easier. The filling is delicious.

These look amazing! I have two suggestions: 1- if you put the cupcakes in the fridge in between filling with the cream and topping with chocolate it may make it easier to spread the chocolate without disturbing the cream.
2- this may just be me, but the sound of your metal utensils (whisk, spoon) on that red bowl absolutely set my teeth on edge. Maybe in the future you could use a silicone-coated whisk and a rubber scraper? Thanks for posting this and all your other great recipes!
