Thank you so much for this recipe. I especially appreciate that you are oil-free. So many plant-based recipes still use a lot of oil and we are trying to avoid that for heart health. Thank you! 💕
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL! Made these for brunch yesterday and they were a BIG HIT!!! To make them extra special, I also made Jill's white frosting (Vegan Hostess Cupcakes) and added maple extract to stream over the buns! YUM! My 90 yr-old mom (who eats the worst SAD you can image) could not stop talking about these buns!! She kept commenting on the texture!! Thank you, Jill!!! Another WIN!!!!❤
Another way to cut the rolls is to use unwaxed, unflavored dental floss. Take a long-ish piece and wrap it under the log, then cross the two ends over top to cut through. Another great recipe I can't wait to try!🙂
That's the way I do it, LaLayla99. Cutting them with a knife always smashes them somewhat (in my experience, anyway). I keep unwaxed, unflavored dental floss in my kitchen for things like this.
I have missed having cinnamon rolls! Now I can have some and they will be healthy. My son may like these for the pecans. He isn't plant based, but he likes to try some of my food. If he likes it, I need to hide enough of it so that I can still have some.Thank you for sharing this recipe! :)
I'll be making these for New Year's Day brunch!!! Can't wait to try them! Comfort food from years ago! Glad to be able to eat something similar again! I'm sure they will be delicious! Praise to our kitchen magician, Jill!❤
I roll cinnamon dough out on parchment that I tape to the counter. Much easier to roll and I use the paper to help roll. I lift as I go. I also roll the long way not short.
I did this recipe a few times already and it's INSANELY GOOD!!! Thank you so much! Also replacing some (or all) raisins with dried plums works great. Jill, you're cooking genius 🙂👍🙏
My mouth is watering!!! My mother-in-law was famous for her amazing cinnamon rolls. I have missed them! Cannot WAIT to try these delicious-looking healthier rolls! Thanks so much for all you do to help us get and stay healthier, Jill and Jeffery!!!!
And cinnamon is supposed to help regulate one's blood sugar too. Dont' know if it truly has that much effect, but that's what I've read. Great looking recipe! Looks like you put a lot of experimentation into it.👍
OMG Jill ! This is fabulous ! But I have a few questions: - Could we put a little bit of apples in the buns ? - Could we use cashews instead of peanut butter ? - Could we use date paste instead of syrup ? Homemade ? - Could we use any fruits in the buns ? Thanks a bunch !
Some small apple chunks might be nice. You can use cashew butter instead of peanut butter. I have tried using date paste but I didn’t really like the result.
Oh wow, what a cool recipe :D I have never thought of making cinnamon rolls upside down :) not that we really top them in Sweden so maybe not as much a surprise, haha, but still, it's a really cool idea :) thank you so much for sharing
This is the first non-gluten free recipe I was sad to not have an alternative. I appreciate you do have gluten free recipes. It is SO hard to find all three gluten free, SOS free, and vegan! 😂
If you ever expand to selling your foods online, I hope you include this one! Very interesting process too. Do you make your own date paste and date syrup? Are there different ingredients or just different textures? Thanks for all you share.
I don’t make my own of either. Date paste is merely dates blended with a bit of water. Date syrup is made in a similar way but the pulp is filtered out and then cooked down until thick.
Changes: Convection oven. All purpose flour. Almond butter. I used 2.5 cups all purpose flour, scaled down the water to 210 g, and almond butter instead of peanut butter. And only half the nuts. The topping turned out incredibly watery - I see now that it's because my brand of almond butter is much more liquidy than her peanut butter. It’s still good, but I will seek to fix this. I have a convection oven and did 325 for 25 min, covering with foil with 8 min left. The middle one was underdone right in the very center. 5 more minutes probably would have fixed it, but I don’t know how the rest of it would handle it (probably well). Everything else was cooked perfectly. They’re a little sour. Granted I haven’t tried them cool yet, and that could change things! My partner and I agreed that a citrus flavor would go well with it, and they liked my idea of an orange-date frosting. Tho I might prefer to go with orange zest in the topping, perhaps. That said, I’m the wfpb eater and I liked them as is, and will absolutely make them again. My partner, on the other hand, wanted to add sugar to offset the sour. (Update, when cool, I feel like it lost most of the sourness.) I was a little skeptical as I was making them. This is the first time I’ve tried date syrup and it didn’t taste quite like I expected. But they hit the spot so well in the end!!

Hi Jill! You popped up on my screen. I have not seen you for so long.
Cinnamon Rolls sound awesome.
Thanks 👍😘
You are a genius baker!!!!
My sister makes sticky buns with the same upsidedown concept. These look delicious!
I have been waiting sooooo long for a whole Food cinna roll recipe. I know yours is delicious!
That looks so good! I think I’ll try rolling it out on parchment paper.

The Ceylon cinnamon is preferable.
Wow. Amazing

Look into Einkorn flour. It’s said people sensitive to gluten can usually eat it.
Jill, you could also put some of your famous frosting on them too (or as an alternative to the nut topping).
Absolutely 👍
Maybe I can make my own version of this lol I will post a video later in may

Hi Jill 💖🙏🏻
I have a saying in my house, "Raisins are NEVER optional!"
If you roll out the dough on parchment paper, it will release and the parchment paper can help to roll up the log tighter. Old pastry trick.
Jill you should make cookie Dough
I understand that WHOLE dates may have a low Glycemic Index (GI), but is there any proof that PROCESSED dates like this syrup also have a low GI? Thx.
Is it possible to use date paste instead of date syrup ?
Yummy yummy yummy ! Does it work with Kamout, spelt or Farro flour?
I'd like to know that too. 😊
She at the beginning, said it doesn’t work right with non-gluten flours
@@cuppatea4466 these flours are wheat and with gluten
I only use spelt flour and it always work when I use it in place of regular flour
Can I use oat flour to make this or self raising flour gluten free
Oat flour doesn’t work but the self rising flour might but I’m not completely sure
@@wholefoodplantbasedcookingshow I will let you know when May comes around
Can we use raw honey or maple syrup instead of date paste? Trying to use what is on hand. Thanks
👍
For gluten free, what about a gluten free flour and using xanthum gum, baking soda and vinegar?
Can I put chocolate chips instead of raisins?
Is there any reason for not using coconut oil in the recipe?
She does not use oil, salt or sugar in her recipes.
@@irisrivas-nieves9511 any reason for avoiding oil? Some good oils are healthy

Do you think you could use chopped dates instead of raisins???
Yes
350 degrees for 25 minutes
Tahini instead of peanut butter?
Yes why not is also creamy and has fat
Or how about cashew butter? I like peanut butter but I don't think I'd like my cinnamon rolls to taste like it.
Yes
Yes
Could I use molasses instead of the date syrup?
I use dental floss to cut the rolls.
Me thinking this was gf :(
I will use a dollop of your cashew frosting on it, Jill.
