This was a great video. My son & I followed your steps and we found some plastic pieces inside the track. Once we removed the pieces the sunroof worked. Thank you.
That was exactly what was wrong with mine. Both sides had broken peices, and seal was all dryed out. Not sure how much you saved me but i owe you at least one cold one!!!
Another great video, Tony! We have a 2014 MKX with the same style panoramic roof. It has worked great but if it ever stops, and I feel brave enough, I'll rewatch this detailed video and attack the problem.
Dude. ... dude. Seriously, this did the trick. I'm looking at a stupid piece of plastic that the dealer said would cost upwards of $3k for a new sunroof after saying the track was bent and that's why it wouldnt open. For just a little bit of my time, my 2017 Platinum sunroof is rolling free for the first time in 3 years! I cant thank you enough for this video. But has anyone found out what this plastic came from?
Thank you! It is definitely starting to come apart and will need to be replaced eventually, but it can be serviced from the top, so don't pay the dealer that big money!
wow.. dude i have been going crazy with my sunroof because when i try to open it, it actually gets stuck on closing until i basically hit it a few times while trying to close it. I guess I will try and open it up like you did when the weather gets a little better. Thank you!
Thanks! Yeah the sun roof can be a pain when it's not working. But if you're a cigar enthusiast like I am it's pretty awesome! Mines doing the same thing. The other night it wouldn't close. Now it won't open and it's catching in the drivers corner like this one was.
I have this same problem with my 2017 F250. The sunroof started leaking water so I tried to open it- and it is stuck! Now that I’ve seen your video I’m going to take the glass out and see if I have those broken pieces in there.
You do if the cables aren't even. I actually rebuilt one of these last week. I'll do a video next time. It's really not that bad. Don't take the motor bolts all the way out. Only loosen them enough to drop the motor down enough to clear the cables. Then you can move each one by hand to get them back in time with each other. Then, just tighten the motor bolts. You don't have to find the bolt holes. The headliner is stuck up with magnets, and it's the motor on the driver side. The other motor is for the shade.
just boight my 2016 platinum with 50k miles. sun roof worked first two weeks then started to sound horrible but still worked. sounded like plastic to me. and now its stuck just like this one was. the driver side doesnt want to budge. how hard is it to line the glass back up if i do this myself
@@tonyscarcare5657 thank you for this! my truck is dang near mint condition but the sudden failure with the sun roof has me upset. since i havnt had it even a month, i wonder if the dealership will fix it?
They won't. You're welcome, though. I told them last June at Ford Motor Company world headquarters that they need to do something about those junk roofs.
Hey Tony, Hopiing you get this message. I am trying to fix my sunroof. Took the glass off and found plastic pieces, but It did not work. saw the comments and figured out I needed to drop the motor. I can not figure out how to drop the motor. I can access it, but don't see the bolts you mention. Its driving me crazy Please help if you are able.
Your window isnt completely closed so the motor on the shade think it is and just stops. Try Opening and closing your window a few times it worked on my 2018
Tony, did the broken plastic pieces from each side match? If they came from the window mechanism I’m surprised it still seems to work flawlessly. Strange indeed.
They did not match. They are definitely from the track assembly, and I've actually seen several sunroofs continue to work with missing pieces. It is strange.
I have a 2017 Lincoln Mkc and mines is doing the same thing so I guess I have to lube the rubber around the sunroof I hope this work cause sometimes I have to play with it to open all the way, it will tilt
Also you can get a certain lube kit from ford parts department, under a TSB for the sun roof, it a little expensive, but maybe silicon grease would be the ticket..
I found two pieces on the same site, plus I brought a little down the window because if they are flat, it can cause the same problem as well and won't open right.
Very good video I m appreciated. I have 2018 f150 lariat 3.5 v6 sport 4x4 crew cab.my truck also same problem.after I pick the plastic pieces few months worked good.now completely stopeds.whats wrong I dont know.Still I searching a good expert for fix my sunroof properly.if you can any gentleman please contact and help me.I ll pay kindly.❤
2016 150 crew...as i was trying to reset and the shade got stuc shut with the sunroof open a little, about a half inch. Now it wont respond at all. Anyone have this issue? I guess I'll try disconnecting the battery next
Years ago, an inventor attached cameras on the outside of a car's door and transmitted the image to the inside of the car's door (which was a screen), so when the driver looked at the passenger door it appeared see through. No door or window handle, just a screen showing what you would see as if the door wasn't there. That was a very disturbing scene. Rolls-Royce offers a ceiling with shooting stars or the sun rising and setting, all done with electronic imagery. I remember my family owning a Buick Roadmaster in the mid 50s and my Dad complaining about the power windows always needing to be adjusted to work properly. It seems the United States loves to take something simple and complicate it. One of these days our ice boxes will have monitors in the doors so we can talk to Grandma on the internet. Oh, wait a minute, that was last year's new idea. 😬 😁 😏
They are buying them from a company that builds crap. They need to have a serious talk with that company. I told them last June at Ford Motor Company World Headquarters that something needed to be done about these things.

You're welcome, and thank you! It will have to have some pieces replaced eventually.
Amazing. That was so weird. You are the type of guy who doesn't give up till the job is done.
Thank you very much! I was wanting to quit on it, but I'm glad I took the glass out.
That was exactly what was wrong with mine. Both sides had broken peices, and seal was all dryed out. Not sure how much you saved me but i owe you at least one cold one!!!
They will all have to be repaired eventually.

Thank you very much! Don't use it if it's below 60 degrees or above 80 degrees. And only open and close it when the vehicle is sitting still!

Dealerships are the worst. That overcharge deserves a review on the dealership website!

Call the Ford dealer and file a complaint. If they get enough they will make it a recall. It cost $3500 to have it repaired.
$3500? Really
Thanks! Yeah the sun roof can be a pain when it's not working. But if you're a cigar enthusiast like I am it's pretty awesome!
Mines doing the same thing. The other night it wouldn't close. Now it won't open and it's catching in the drivers corner like this one was.
I finally rebuilt one of these. I will do a video next time.

I'm sure you'll find some. Good luck.
Great job.Persistance pays off
Thank you very much! That one was annoying me for sure.
Extra parts, I guess. lol. Great work. What did you end up using to get the grease out of the headliner?
Thank you! It actually wiped right off. It wasn't really grease. It was dirt and Vaseline. It barely touched it, so luckily, it was easy.
Do you have to drop the motor to remove the sunroof?

It's not bad if you unbolt the motor. Each side will slide individually.

You have to feel for them. They are a torx screw. I don't remember what size.
Thank you! The cover/blind on ours doesn't close all the way too.
You're welcome! These things are causing so much trouble already.

Do u know if there i s a way to manually move it forward my tracks are all the way back and i can t get them to move forward
You will have to remove the motor to do that. Then, yes, it should move manually.

Why did you “drop the motor” and what does that entail? I have this problem with my 2017 F150.
You have to drop the motor to get the cables lined back up.

I have the same problem in my 2017 , I'll let you know what the problem is. Thank you for the video.
You're welcome. Thank you!

Im a Ford tech at my local dealership & Im having the same issue on a 2017 F150 I just bought. Plan on doing this exact same thing lol.
I'd say you may as well get ready because they're gonna be breaking, and there's a ton of them out there.
Same
Mine is doing the same but will not tilt?
I'm sure there's broken plastic laying down in there.
After these last two videos I think you need an extra hand😂 . Great informative video and persistence 😊
Thank you! I really should have gotten out my tripod for when I was removing and installing the glass.
Great info!
Thank you very much!

I know. I don't understand what was wrong with the original ASC sunroofs. All this automatic stuff is not necessary.
Mines doing the exact same thing
They are all gonna have to be rebuilt eventually.
Ford needs to stop making sunroofs on ALL vehicles. They do not know how to engineer them!!
They are buying them from a company that builds crap. They need to have a serious talk with that company. I told them last June at Ford Motor Company World Headquarters that something needed to be done about these things.
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks again, buddy!
God bless Heinz Prechter.
Yes! They never should have stopped using ASC!
Shoulda used bacon grease
