You offer these as a balanced kit. A friend bought the stroker LS kit and had to pay a fair amount to get Mallory added to the crank. Which isn’t cheap. I was going to get the same kit but I’m on the fence now. People would gladly pay a few hundred bucks to have it come balanced.
I'm looking forward to seeing part 2. I have 2 6.0 ls's in my garage on engine stands I'm rebuilding, one needing a new crank so I have been thinking about the Pro LS rotating assembly kit for a while now. In my 6.0 turbo'd caprice ppv I'm running your Pro LS turbo stage 2 cam.
Great video. Will give novice builders the confidence. An LS is as easy as a 2 stroke. But y'all really need to comment on the important things like proper balancing, cam degreeing, having a block properly machined such as align honing, etc. So many critical things for an engine to last past break-in.
Not always the case especially on an LS Ive been making 1050whp+ on a gen3 5.3 with gen 4 rods for 3 years now going into 4th season .. 160+ passes since keeping track and thousands of street miles is one drag week and 1 rocky mountain raceweek.. no balancing , no bearings no extra bullshit you don't need... Rings were pregapped for boost after 180k lol .. there are budget builds and their are by the book builds.. my expensive by the book build is in a bunch of smaller pieces and all the machine work and brand new parts didn't matter my throat together build has lasted two more years already on all stock type parts except for valve train ..
very true for some engines, but ill have to disagree with the LS. Its design was good enough to not need every little thing perfect and still be very reliable. there are plenty of stories of backyard builds making 800+ hp and running a long time.
My daily is a 2017 Silverado 5.3L 4x4. Eventually I would like to get into the internals and replace the cam and lifters which have been known to fail with something a bit spicier. But for now intake, exhaust, and some dress up parts will have to do.
I looked up the forged internals on summit racing if i was to get this particular set with everything does it come balanced or u have to pay extra to get the whole rotaring assembly with other parts balanced?
What a great video guys, even being a full time tech I still loved it. Good stuff. Good products. I love summit. I just bought a creeper and stool from you. They are sweet!
Awesome episode. Great assembly of the motor. Can wait to see how yours goes. I’m in Australia 🇦🇺 and recently bought cam 8706 for my LS. So looking forward to getting it together, boosted and running sweet.
Would be nice if these parts would be in stock , tryed buying h beam rods a few months ago had to go else where , I do like the pistons, hopefully there in stock when I order for my new engine
1,000 HP from an LS with Summit Racing parts only?? Lmao , dude that's like shooting fish in a barrel. Easy peazy. You guys have pretty much everything you need , I'd be salivating just looking for parts in the warehouse.
You don't need a more how to video on how to make a 1000 horsepower withan LS we've been beaten on a 4.8 leader that had a 180000 miles on it for over 2 years and made over a 1000 horsepower and didn't touch a thing except adding a Turbo and intake and a Turbo Cam and push rod And by the way it's in a drag car so it gets beat on Weekly
I was wondering where to order my new lm7 engine from Fraser engines or your store Summit racing. I'm thinking you guys are more of a trusted brand. And you seem to know a lot and frankly I would just trust your engines more.
Awesome video. I wish there was a little more detail on the process. With a proper how-to video, similar to this, I would have the confidence to order the parts I've been wanting and give it a go myself.
Personally, I'd rather see an LS N/A build that puts out 550-600 rwhp. I'm not a big fan of blowers for the street. Too much power for the tires to handle, eat too much GAS. Plus, it would cost LESS to build.
The only difference for a n/a build would be camshaft and piston compression choice. The actual assembly procedure is the same for natural aspirated or turbo short block build.
If it's too much power for the street, perhaps it's time to dig into chassis setup. Turbos are much better on the street than a blower. If you stay out of boost, you can literally get the same MPG as a N/A car. I know several guys 1000rwhp, and still see 18-22mpg.
@@carver32ac My take on this is, anything over 600 hp is way too much for a street driven hot rod. I mean, how often do you "max out" such a car? Is this a "daily driver", or only something that you want to SHOW OFF every couple of months??
Yes Adam our Pro LS line of parts is for LS applications If you have any questions about the Summit Racing Pro LS line contact the Summit Racing tech line ! Thanks for watching !
Or alternatively you can pick up a $500 5.3 from the junkyard, widen a little bit your heads, put an SS intake, 2 turbo and make 1500hp on stock everything. It's been done and it works
2004 iron block lq4 stock pistons, stock ring gap, cam vs 76mm, cam, stock bread box intake, stock truck manifolds flipped c16 about 20lbs of boost 1000hp for the last 4 years, got the motor for 500$🤣🤣
Absolutely 💯. I was going through my own figures and this is a high dollar 💵 engine. Wish I had a newer summit catalog. Either way I 💯 could get a 1000 plus ➕ horsepower for a third of the price.
cam heads pistons to get you to like 450 500 and then a turbo at 14 point something boost and it's 1k horsepower. i get bored of LS shit, but if that is all that people buy then what can you do...
Because for what you spend building a medium Ford or Dodge you could build a monster LS. For a lot of people economics come into play and the LS is the best bang for the buck.
@@SummitRacing I would be interested in seeing some transmission ideas since as we've seen the engine is not the weak link. Well unless you butt the rings together and break a piston. It seems downstream driveline would be the weakest link.

How does the Caprice run? I am potentially getting an 88 Caprice 4 door that I want to LS swap for some power and do drag and drives!

This is a great series. I can not wait for part(2).
good info so many need to see thanks summit for putting this out there
That Mike guy explains everything very well he would be a great instructor
I would literally do ANYTHING to get a old used engine for my Dad’s old truck
Got a question do you have to balance the rotating assembly or is it balanced already When is your next video coming out part 2

There's a parts shortage everywhere, just need to be patient.
Summit has been the very best parts supplier for many, many years, and still are, but unfortunately the pandemic really messed up the supply chain.

@summitracing will this work for a 6.2 ?
Could have just asked for a video of my truck. Already made around 1200 wheel with this same rotating assembly.
Parts list is there. Is there a price? Total. US/CAN? Prices
I got a 6.0 Escalade 05 it turns on , chugs , tick , and then shuts off if idling for more then a couple minutes , what can it be ?
.024 & .026 ring gap isnt enough if you putting a Turbo on it at those gap your running close to break a piston zone
Do you guys do your own machine work, grind the cams make the pistons machine the rods I guess do you have a full machine shop
Shouldn't you have put some lubricant down before installing the bearings for the crankshaft?
Did you balance the rotating assembly first?
id say yea. they be stupid to not
Thank you for your knowledge and video's USA 🇺🇸 USA 🇺🇸 Parts Only
What crank bearings should be used?
Does that block already come machined? Do the rotating assemblies come balanced?
What are y’all putting on the bolts
What is the part number for the timing chain?
Which Camshaft did u use?
We used our Summit Pro LS Turbo camshaft, part number SUM-8716R1
Can you please do a series on the l86 6.2

Do it n/a and I'll be impressed

How about you do it?
Always an NA Guy saying do it NA
How about 500hp per Liter ;-).

I like the 540ci BBC myself. You get way more "idle respect" around town than you do in a turbo 6.0....💯

no one said there would be a turbo at the start of coarse there is easy power
1000 hp will most likely have a turbocharger or supercharger.

So this why the rotating assemblies take 2 months to ship
