When you wish you could just go hang out with people building cars all day… learn so much from these videos
I'm lucky enough to have friends into cars but I'm unlucky enough of being the mechanic and smart friend so if I don't know how to do it I have no one who will look at my shit that has more experience
@@shmithys9222 I really feel that, most of my group of friends drive turbo volvos and I’ve gotten really good at fixing most things, the things I can’t troubleshoot and fix I send down to our local independent Volvo shop.
Bro ive learned alot from RUclips
Same man....learn so much
They all live in Florida.
You’re the bob Ross/mr Rodgers of the car world. I love listening to you talk. Ever been on any podcasts?
On cleetus podcast
He was on one from That Dude in Blue years ago, that's how I found him.
I've just discovered him today & I subscribed 5 minutes into the video. He seems a genuinely nice guy.
@@BobMonkeypimp he literally builds everything himself, and explains it really well, ive been watching him a few years now, i try not to miss a upload
@@BobMonkeypimp hell of a driver too
Brian on Jimmy O's channel is having issues with his ls swap 3 series, I'm sure those guys would appreciate some help from a guy who knows his onions mann 🤙
I just watched that video. Pretty crappy for bhall. I hope they get it figured out and he can enjoy his car.
Yeah that was tough to watch. I wonder if they got a high volume pump instead of high pressure like Taylor just said?
Unfortunate for Bhall. Should've just chucked a turbo on his bmw engine and pushed 15psi imo, cheapest option
I really hope he didnt use a high volume oil pump. Filling the head is the same fault the rb has, could call it a rookie mistake by even JP..
@@Jake_Hamlin that or oil slosh plus I’d imagine they didn’t mag flux the block to check for cracks. That heads cam set up was pushing some serious cylinder pressure for a aluminum block with over 100k miles
Taylor also rod knocked a LS the first time out drifting and it was because he used the stock oil Pan with no baffles so it starved the engine.
It amazes me that 11 minutes ago this video was posted when I’m watching it and there’s already a dislike. People this guy Taylor Ray builds everything himself. How can you dislike it. Seriously. I can’t wait for this build. Love every build been a fan forever
I’m with you, but there is always haters!
At this point I think it's just bots cause why would you have notifications on to dislike it
probably just people messin with him 🤷🏽♂️.
great build tho this dude really gets after it 👍🤙
because of the red valve covers aha
The dislikes are the epa lol. I don't think anyone could actually dislike one of his videos.
19:32 triggered by that mosquito sound
Listening about the high pressure and high volume oil pumps, wondering if Bhall from JimmyO made that mistake.
Yeah I think he might have, but Jimmy knows what he's talking about so maybe not?
Jimmy mentioned something about the oil pump, I don't think they overlooked that in the build.
sucking the pan dry is a myth? i think that only happens with DOD pumps
oil control is key, not sure if Jimmy had a pan baffle
generally doesn't high pressure pumps require larger bearing tollerances? and high volume is preferred due to reducing cavitation at high rpm and better supports oil coolers/turbos
Nah oil pressure has always been an issue with LS engines. Drifting is about the worst environment for them, Taylor has killed several thanks to oiling issues before he went dry sump - which seems to be the only guaranteed way to keep the well oiled at high speed, high revs and sideways.
If you have a high volume it will clear the pan dry if I’m now mistaken right?
I've been mechanicing for most of my life. I don't care what anyone says, you did a magnificent job building this motor. A+++
Loving this build man! That mosquito was freaking me out around the 19:35 mark! Lol!
i was looking for this comment lol
made me shiver lmao
yea me too 😂
@@RJ-oi9fh I thought it was by my head and knocked my headphone out! 😂
Bro, I was wondering if anyone else noticed lol.
Try throwing a Trailblazer SS intake manifold on it, a bit more power, stock-ish, Looks better!!!
They make a girdle that allows you to be able to use 2 bolts on the oil pickup tube. I think ICT makes a billet one
He has one on the miata's engine. Surprised he didn't put it on this one considering it's much higher hp
V8 Single Cab short bed trucks are so much fun!
'
I am willing to bet you will drive it nearly everyday. I've been dailying my rcsb 6.0 80e on 14psi for 6 months now, it just doesn't get old.
Solid overall build, I'm doing close to the same on a current project. A couple of tips for next time or anyone looking to do this as well.
-You should put some type of sealant on the intake rocker bolts. On most ported heads, the bottom of the hole gets exposed to the intake runner and this can cause issues on boosted engines. Under boost it can create a boost leak that looks like excessive blowby, under vacuum it can burn excessive oil.
-Turbo drain-GM already gave you a hole to drain the turbo oil, they just put a level sensor in it. Most will not use the sensor anyways and you can buy an adapter to your choice of drain line.
"Nobody wants low oil pressure"
RIP Brian's E46
Piston right through the oil pan
Fire and Rain is one of my all time favs. I love the Sammy Kershaw version. But James Taylor is good 👍
No better combo than classic rock and cars.
Idk why it is so satisfying about watching someone build motors! I could watch this 4 or 5 times. I've watched enough ls builds I do believe I could build one
You can. Its about easy as it gets when it comes to an 8 cylinder. Hands down best v8 ever produced
"This is the worst part of a cam install..."
Well, I like your technique...
sus :-^
Get some Nitrile gloves! 😂
Great build Taylor 👍
BTW I still have the ‘01 C5 for your FD build 👍
I notice you follow the schrodinger's cam bearing philosophy. If I don't look to close, they aren't bad. Love it!
Idea for the exhaust setup; build a relatively quiet exhaust for daily driving and put an electric cutout for the straight pipe performance and rowdiness!
I plan on building the exact L92 that you have for my 350Z (dry sump included) so you mentioning that you’ll make that list from Texas speed available was amazing news to me! Thank you Taylor!
Loving the content dude. I really love how you explain the upgrades and why you chose that particular part. Keep it up!
1:05 The Cam needs a fun time too
the amount of progression this man has been through since i started watching him is insane, to think he was living multiple roommates in a tiny house with just a tiny garage working on the miata is crazy. now he’s got a huge shop and a nice house it’s crazy to see how much people can grow in under 5 years.
Love the content! I'm begging for a Jibber Jabber shirt in 4x! PLEASE! 6'4" 290lbs needs 4x!
I feel this comment lol. I bought shirts and ended up giving them to the wife lol. Just slightly too small 😂
Ok look it may sound shitty but in the long run loosing weight is the better solution to your problem..
I really appreciate the way you describe what you are doing, and why when you are putting something like this together. So many people just skip over it, and it's the step by step process that gives people the confidence to try it themselves. I can slap a 1,000 hp ls together in a day, but 15 years ago I would have been reading every step in the manual 3 times and second guessing everything until the 3rd oil change. It's always nice to look over someone's shoulder thatsdone it before.
I thought I was going to see a McFarland Edition valley cover
I came to the comment to see if any body was thinking the same thing I was haha 😂
Taylor listening to James Taylor makes me happy
You just preemtively got the oil system ready for twins for when you decide to go really crazy with it.
Looks good bud can't wait to see it running! Great job!
Fun fact the pan will center the front cover on an ls. You put the cover on and you put the pan with the gasket with 4dabs of rtv on the pan where the rear main and the front cover meet the block and you put all the bolts in and tighten them down then you thighten the front cover
Cast manifolds look so dope next to the polished steel!
Thanks for making the list available. I'm curious on the heads, I've also got a LQ4 I'm building Sloppy Style.
Really happy you went with the FSP manifolds, I have one of his import stainless manifolds and its been mint.
He has a great video, I couldn't understand what brand of exhaust manifolds, so thank you for the name.
I can see you're excited. That's awesome dude. You deserve it for taking your time and doing things the right way. Hell yeah brother
Ah man Taylor I am so pumped for you!!! I’m super stoked on this build, this is a very obtainable street rig for us regular guys. Can’t wait to see where you take this truck cuz it’s gonna be bad azz. Thank very much for the content, it’s inspiring!!
At least do a Holley low ram. Gives you the option for the integrated intercooler later on.
Yes just like cleetus McFarlands ruby and they have the intergrated intercooler on ruby
Tick performance
Please do a build video of this with cleetus 👏🏽👏🏽
I'l literally building this exact combo for my '68 coupe. LOVE the content T Ray ! !
The algorithm is working well! Clicked off LT's video as the race finished.
Man I love Taylor and his ability to throw shade educationally. Great video as usual!
Yea he's very educated in this ls mess
Make sure to get all of the content you can out of this build! You’re really haulin ass compared to the Cifero build haha. Great content as always! I love the solo style of these videos, they’re so raw and real. It’s amazing, I’ve been watching for years.
Cool I'm building Lsx Turbo GTO by my self
It amazes me how fast Taylor can finish a build. That’s one reason I absolutely love him, cause he doesn’t keep us waiting for months in end to see a start up!
That James Taylor playing on the engine assembly so it runs smoooooooth.
Sir do you need a wastegate for this build, I know a guy :)
^^^^^that guy has some nice shit for sale
haha shameless self plug!
Haha gotta do it! lol
Black sheep!
That guy should move to Florida. 😊
Taylor the drain really needs to go on the front cover. I just learned the hard way on my Turbo LS Mustang build. It was forcing oil out of the exhaust. I tried using the pan but it was to low.
He put bun high up their, ggz
ICT Billet makes a LS timing chain cover that has turbo oil drain returns on them.
As long as the drain is high up
Putting it in the front will give problems with balance / accessory clearness
@@hypercreationsllc All he has to do is get some 90s fittings and point them downward with timing chain cover which will avoid all pulleys and have no clearance issues. ICT billet wouldn't sell it if it created the issues you are claiming.
@@hypercreationsllc a drain on the oil pan is not high enough i am speaking from experience
Can confirm on the turbo. I have almost the exact same setup and my 7875 spools at like 2500. Shits rowdy
This is easily one of my favorite builds yet already, I just hate I cant binge the build process and have to wait on the next Ep. You, T-ray, are binge-worthy!
It looks gnarly so far man good shit! But seriously is there a way to move that cap from under the turbski?
Never would have thought you to be a James Talyor Fan. Good Music Sense!
I hate the fact that this was uploaded right when I started work and I didn't get time to watch it. I'm here now 😅
looking forward to seeing/hearing this baby run Taylor, watched EVERY video you have ever uploaded and never get tired of them.
Thank you for the entertainment, I can't do much these days so sort of live my life through you and others like you on the tubes :)
TAYLOR ! If those heads are ported thru the rocker arm bump (which is VERY COMMON) YOU NEED TO PUT GREY GM SEALANT IN THE ROCKER STAND HOLES AND ON THE ROCKER BOLTS ! IT WILL LEAK BADLY OTHERWISE!
Look into the intake ports or reach a index finger in there and look/feel for a hole in the wall of the port directly below the rocker boss. Typically there is a bulge that is the 1st thing that is ported away (unnecessary strength).
I dunno on your heads but its likely-please verify.
And Google porting the rocker bump for more info
Yes...even CNC'd heads
@@Forcefed2002 especially CNC heads
I sealed mine both ways.
One way with that grey GM sealant on the threads and another set using Moroso's AB Epoxy. And instead packed it into the port-let cure-then smoothed out to match port wall.
Both worked well
Taylor please help Jimmy he needs your help with Brian's LS e46 drift vehicle 😢
First thing that car needs is a proper exhaust.....it sounds totally weird for a rowdy NA LS engine......Jimmy's Z sounds funny too.....I guess I am not used to them having big mufflers on them like they like to do at the Oakes compound. Plus they would both benefit from power gains with longtubes and free flowing exhaust it would seem
@@Jsmith9619 i think thats the least of their concerns, judging by the other comments it seems that engine isnt healthy, i havent watched Jimmy's video yet.
@@martinbernath Yeah, I hadn't watched the Oakes video yet when I said this....
Now, when they rebuild Brian's engine, they can fix the exhaust issues lol. Need a dry sump it may seem. Or had a rod issue already or issue when putting engine together
@@Jsmith9619 Having a quiet exhaust doesn’t necessarily cost power. They may well have decibel limits at their regular tracks to abide by as well.
@@foamdataservices Restrictive exhaust can and will cost power on a mildly/built LS platform......some engines it doesn't matter much....but if you want the most out of it. They may have a decibel restriction, not sure, never heard it mentioned before on his channel, only that Jimmy usually likes a quieter car if possible. Doesn't have to be super loud to sound good either. Doesn't matter anyway since it's blown now.
god i love this. I'm not a huge fan of v8's but I just like listening to everything. You have a vast amount of knowledge and it's super cool to hear about.
Taylor's making this look way too easy and it's giving me ideas...
dude, where did you get that bung you hammered in, that is an awesome idea
No shit!
The man himself!
YOURE GOING TO BURN THE SEAL
Personally drilling and tapping the pan looks a lot easier and cleaner
Technically can’t be a high pressure pump . Pumps don’t create pressure !
i’ll show you my bung matt
I would love to eventually hire you to build a setup for me sometime!
I'm so excited to see this thang finished!! I've got love for just about any build but I'm a chevy truck guy at heart for sure.
Red and green is a great collab
Isn’t that gear oil just going to drain out of the pump when you flip the engine over? I have heard of packing Vaseline or moly grease in the pump.
No because when you install it upside down it flows back in, it's common practice on ls installations to start the engine upside down first prior to being put inside the motor vehicle.
@@AdmissionGaming 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey Taylor, I noticed the heads are cathedral port. Any reason for going with that over the square port?
The intake that came with the truck has cathedral ports. He mentioned that he wanted to retain the factory throttle body and cruise control setup.
dude the exact right way to build a reliable 1000hp LS in my opinion. I mean some fancy mechanics but nothing overkill/useless, well done!
Once again, FANTASTIC info. High volume oil pumps are a very dangerous thing to mess with if you have a stock block configuration.
should definitely talk to jimmy/Brian about what their LS woes first brian breaks a lifter and now he blew up the whole engine because of low oil pressure
After watching Jimmy Oakes video, its too soon to talk about low oil pressure :(
If the high volume pump was the cause I would be fairly annoyed with JP, although when drifting you should always overfill the oil pan. RB and LS engines fill the head with just revs..
Thats why you put the cam in before the rotating assembly and the crank. You can flip it, and support the cam through each bearing
Dude, go factory drive by wire Throttle body, keep cruise and stuff and get a Holly intake! That's the way to go man!
Love seeing the Pulsar peeking through the door
I love this build. It’s been my dream to build a truck like this because they came factory with the ls platform
I like the random shop noises when the time laps going. Adds a nice touch
I had one of those "oops" moments today. Piping an in bed fuel pump/tank for filling heavy equipment. It all went so much quicker and turned out a lot nicer looking than I thought it possibly could with the limited room I had. Went to put the hose and nozzle on when I reached to get it I noticed the filter head still sitting on the tailgate. Ugh... It's on there, but it ain't so pretty anymore.
Lol sparks and huge feeds on filler rod, I know that was tough! Nice work man, I really enjoy your videos.
Hey man! I did almost the exact same setup following Sloppymechanics build series. I got all of my factory gauges working “piggybacking” the stock ecu. I converted to Silverado electric fans and the stock ecu even runs the fans and AC! Love the terminator with factory gauges! Wish I could have afforded the pro dash though! Sick build!
Love the video Taylor, One thing i will ask. Get a Metal trash can and toss your scrap metal in, it will add up and you can take it to the scrap yard for salvage, and having metal recycled is a good idea, and I am not a save the planet type person but tossing metal in the trash is a lot of wasted resources we can all do our part in keeping the metal industry working.
This is probably one of the first videos I didn’t skip through. Great video! Definitely subscribing
I heated the one on my hemi and its been just fine. Doesn't take much heat to expand enough to slide on.
Just found your page, can't wait to see it finish!!! Love it!!
hylomar has been on the market in the uk for decades it is brilliant stuff and will seal just about surface on an engine so glad to see the yanks using a great british product.
Needs the black valve covers. Awesome progress and quality!
I absolutely love how the sound effects don’t line up with the high speed vids. I mean it. Genius.
Solid explanation my friend. I learned valuable information here today. Thank you.
Thank you Taylor. Enjoying the build.
FSP FTW‼️🏁
Running the same manifold on my truck.
and I am really impressed….
best bang for the buck.
great video!!!
i been watching Taylor for years.
And it seems like the more content he provides, the more i follow him!
keep up the awesome builds
im even looking forward to tearing down the old shop. . lol
keep it up
peace
Eturn
You make it look so easy (minus the rings) and are making me want to throw some new rods and pistons in my V2 V.
haha at 19:30 the mosquito flying from left to right
I love your plan of just building a V1 and see what you do with it.
We the car people tend to go down the rabbit hole too easily
Duramax rad support with factory intercooler looks so clean on turbo silverado
The truck would be a good contender for Rocky Mountain Race Week as built. Everyday driver with a turbski. Nice combo.
It still amazes me how simple yet how much power these motors are capable of. I have a mildly built 6.0 I am putting in my 66 c10 and in the future maybe add the same turbo I would love to make that big power but the thing is gonna get driven everywhere I travel multiple states away going to different shows
You should set up a Ziplock bag full of ice at the end of the crank a few minutes before slipping in the heated balancer, works like a charm.
Hylomar was developed by nasa and Mazda used it for assembling rotaries. We still use it when building rotaries so the seals don’t fall out when we drop in the rotors.
James Taylor ftw fucking love that song... kicks up all the feels about all my friends that have passed....
Great video! I'm getting back into hotrods after about 25years. Wow have things changed! First build is 6.0 LS out of a 05 GTO. Swapping it into a 05 Chevy Colorado ZQ8.
Back and green with a tasteful splash of red is total fire!
super great videos man. you do a great job explaining what you are doing while you work.
Our engine n transmission instructor had us use a deep fryer to heat up anythin n everything that was a press fit. Made assembly go real smooth.
Love these ~half hour build videos, keep it up.
FSP!!!!! Love those guys. They are still doing the cast ones right now but after an injury he's not going to be able to make the other logs. Hope he heals up good and fast.
