- By no means is this a super, in depth tutorial. This is simply me sharing my very first harness rework, and a few little tips I figured out along the way. Just trying to show my fellow novices that it's not as scary as you think, and is totally doable! After all, if you never leave your comfort zone, you're not learning enough!

"I live in a constant state of unfinished projects" .... That spoke to me. I felt that in my soul.
Same way brother
Going on 3 years 😅
im not the only one then lol.....
This hit home...
This me 100%
Hey me too I live in a state of unfinished projects. I even take on others peoples too!
Lol I do the same thing too
Hello. Do you know what headers will work for 1973 Buick century? LS swap
Same here. Unfinished projects while taking on more all the time... and helping friends and neighbors too. 😉
I think it's life though.
You're in my prayers
Great example of taking your time and using your head. Thanks for posting the video very encouraging for the rest of us
"..I live in a constant state of unfinished projects. " .. you and all of us brother.
There are people out there that will never accomplish anything because they assume they will fail. Get out there and do it and you'll be cruising.
And 96.5% of the time, you will fail. But hey you will learn what not to do lol
Even Thomas Edison has had many failures, but he had never given up. We all should learn a thing or two from his endeavors.
been wanting to do a LS swap but the electrical has always scared me. Just got my 5.3 yesterday, there’s no going back now!
Thank you for taking the time for us 🙏
You had a great idea to label everything before disconnecting things.
I fell in love after the first 3:44 seconds. Zip ties is genius💪🏿
for never doing this before you have great foresight in how pcm clips remove . ???truly amazing
Am I the only one gritting my teeth when you’re fighting the grey cap on the blue CPU plug? LOL
Good job, your videos always help out with my built, im installing an ls1 4L60 on my 00 xtreme but i have one question about the standalone... ¿How did you install the new relays and fuses ?
Good tip on writing red and blue. I was actually thing on marking them with a red marker, and a blue marker.
Yes, great video. Very clear explanation and logical. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Tip, push wire through, snip the metal end off, pull back through, remove from loom...
Don't take this as an insult but you look a lot like my favorite "Stooge" Jerome Lester Horwitz, known professionally as Curly Howard. Thumbs up for that alone! 👍
Nice Job. I just did my first one about 4 day's ago. It is very easy.
Can i ask doing a harness for an electronic trans..would you leave all trans pins in the connectors?
@@JohnDoe-fz9ck Yes I would do it that way. With mine I'm doing a 5.3 and 4l60E into a 1984 Regal.
Great job
This part was a cake walk, the challenge for me is figuring out how to get the engine in the car. Nothing around here but dirt and mud. engine hoist dont roll well on dirt or in mud. having a concrete slab installed isnt an option either. Tried to use friends garages and stuff but you know how that goes so here I sit, with a 5.3 ready to go into an s10 with no way to actually get it in there.
Dirt driveway myself ! Get some heavy plywood and put some sheet metal on it so the cherry picker doesn't crack through . It rolls pretty good .
Use a tree with some ratchet straps
@@swaggass20 how is he gonna lower a engine SAFELY into a truck with ratchet straps ? That is not sound advice !
use a tree and a comealong and a chain
We used 3 tree's chained up and a come along to do these jobs. thick 4x8 Plywood on the ground where the hydraulic jack holds the tranny. But that's life in the Woods. But Good luck 😁
Every square body owner lives in a constant state of unfinished projects.
I got a 98 GMC Sierra I plan on having it awhile. It’s older yes but if I can over come my fear the dreaded wiring harness a 6.0/4l80e would be my first major upgrade to modernization. Thank you for the video sir it was very helpful
I will install ur sheet rock for $50
Nice job. 👽
Thanks for the video.
Well explained thank you for sharing
I like the shop floor chum 🤘
Did you ever finish the "stand alone harness" ? To be a stand alone harness it needs a fuse box and some relays hooked up... Its a nice start .
Great job with this video
"just label it" as I'm sitting here, everything unlabeled, loom peeled back, wires tangled, on fire.
Stupid question , how do you hook it up to the test of the vehical
Looking to do a stand alone for a 4.3 vortec going in a Luv where to find a print out of what wires I can get ride of that I don’t need. Thanks Troy
if you havnt found your answer yet just use a v8 pinout only difference is number of injectors or painless sells a stand alone harness at least i know they did
Great Video !!
when you said the most intimidating thing about the process isai thaths what i loking for Tanks you now i knowit
#diablocustomschoker✌️
So, I understand that this harness mod makes it possible for the LS engine to be dropped into, say, a bare-bones 1949 Studebaker truck which has been converted to 12V Negative ground? Help me out here!
What state are you in? I’m in SC and just purchased a 96 s10 2.2/5spd for my son and I to tinker with. I have a complete drivetrain/harness/computer from a 96 full-size (5.7/4l60e) but I’d rather have manual trans in the s10. I have no problem with the mechanical side but the electrical blows my mind.
Great video. Excellent information. If I'm using a 2004 harness but putting drive by cable throttle body on, how should I do the pinout? I would assume I would strip the harness as if it is the 99- 02. Thanks!
Did you ever get your answer? I'm doin the same thing
Also, do we need a dbc pcm?
i would have used heat shrink tubing to hold the pin down so you don have to cut it
Good job
What do you mean by a stand a line harness and with the wires you terminated from the fur box, what do you do with them? And after doing this process do you just plug the pins in to the ecu and clip on all the parts to the engine and trans?
Standalone harness means you can run the motor on a stand, or anywhere outside of a vehicle. Thats the best way to describe it lol
@@flatnastyproductions5810 what a good explanation. i will never forget it. thanks for sharing your skills. cheers
How can I contact u im in tx I hve a 5.3 going on a 71 c10
Part of tx?
I like that U can do it Attitude💪💪💪💪💪💪🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟👍👍
Whats the purpose of de-pinning the harness. Why cant you leave the wires in? I really dont know, not being smart
On my KA swap that I did, I left the harness with everything on it and just wired/hooked up what I needed. It was my first swap so I didn't want to screw anything up by removing something I shouldn't...I ran it like that for 2 years, with plugs not plugging into anything, etc...I recently pulled the harness out and removed every wire/plug I wasn't using: It cleaned up the engine bay nicely! So you can leave them in, however, it just looks so much better without any extraneous wires or plugs.
nice job
im not clear on what we are doing here. a donor engine with its factory harness and you are repining it to plug into an aftermarket control ECM or?
We're are all the cut wires going to
What do you do with the wires that were left with tape at the end? I got lost. Lol
I agree. The video was very nice and helpful but I was confused at the end on what your going to do with all the wires you cut out and taped up. Any info would be appreciated
The cut ends are deleted or integrated in the cars dash harness for low oil light, cel, etc
Will the same procedure work on a gen 4 harness with e38 computer
If I may ask, when you rewrapped the harness, what tape did you use? I don't want to use electrical tape, but the OEM stuff. Do you know what that stuff is? Thanks. Great job by the way
Gaffers tape
The ones out of the block at the end of the video
a diy fuse/relay block thats alot smaller and looks cleaner
I might be treating this like a redit page but honestly what did he do here? He referenced the web page that told him to remove these wires but I dont get why. I incorrectly thought he was going to create a NEW wiring harness with new (non brittle) wire. Its obvious that if he was putting it in a same vehicle hed need the same wires so I assume its other than that. How would this website know he didnt need these wires?
Have you done anything to retain the "Flex fuel" system? (white 56 PCM wire) ?
how much for a custom one
Are you keeping the fuse box
has everyone ever told you that you sound like bryan off of family guy
I clicked on this video because my last name is cheek and everyone calls me cheeky😂

Brother any info on a 5.3 wiring hardness runing with a th350 or th400
Want nice clean set or how much to make me one and ship to CA
Going on s10 or 94 f150 either lol
Hello! Did you earn some info? Im thinking in do a 5.3 with th400 tho
Say Iam swapping a f body or whatever and I have a lq4 and want to do manual swap . Can I use a t-56 trans and use a T-56 harness from a ls1 f body along with the front end accessories?
Yes. you can use a t56. you can get a t56 harness or if you have the auto harness just use it. You can tuck away or remove the wires for the auto trans. Harness is the same, just a few more wires and plugs to run auto. Ecm does not know the difference. Depending on year of ecm you may want to have some CEC removed on ecm if you go stick on auto ecm but engine will run fine either way.
@@fuzzymoto896 ohh no shii dam thanks for the info man much appreciated
I need a how to for the genV L83 swap
Why not just buy a new one. They are not expensive. And reliability is key
Pretty informative video... could have given the same info in less than half the time if ya wanted too... but hey it’s whatever. Thanks.
Let’s see a nnbs v6 to v8 swap harness, then I’ll be impressed..
i actually just swapped a 5.3 into a 02 sierra 1500 the v8 wiring was plug and play with the trucks fuse box
I just threw mine out. I’m old school and prefer a carburetor
To hard I’m out

Get to the point don't try an explain every single little small detail, some of the stuff you explain was good but if anyone watching this don't know to take loom off or to use zip ties they are not going too be doing this anyway.
To each their own bud, I’m pretty sure he’s tryna cover everything to make it almost idiot proof
The towering whip wessely crawl because market causally moan round a utopian postbox. grotesque, insidious tenor
Was your harness that clean when you pulled it off or did you wash it? If you did what did you wash it with? My truck harness is full of grease, oil and a ton of dirt. Not to mention the wires feel as if they are stuck together lol. Great video, I really appreciate it!
I would like to know the same thing.
I don't wanna sound like a dikk, but is this the same as you can buy on ebay for $90? I am new at this.
Thanks for making this video. The wiring is the biggest thing keeping me from pulling the trigger on a swap for my 1970 C20. Your video makes me think that I can do this.
Hey man you can run the stock harness. On those trucks just power the fuse block with the grey connecter A9 run that to your factory 70 truck ignition wire(distributor power wire) and then70s starter wire to LS, fuel pump comes out of that as well, run your lines with pump in tanks or inline pump out of tank. Done!
@@scottlavoie2363 I would imagine it would be nearly as easy on an 80 mustang? I'm debating buying an eBay hundred-dollar stand-alone harness. I don't really have the time to fiddle with the ls 6 harness I have now
Fine job on the video and explanation without too much fluff. Thank you for taking the time to do this, much appreciated. Be well sir.
Thank you 1 million you have gave me more confidence to proceed on my LS swap and do it myself.
And as soon as you label them, BEFORE you unplug them-take a cell phone photo!
State of unfinished projects. That is meee!!
I got a 4.3 , the harness and pcm came with the motor and was cut in pieces , i rewired it with wire I bought off ebay . After a couple or months the motor wouldn`t start , i had been using the wire on other projects ,they were failing too . The cheap ebay wire the copper conductor turned to green dust not just the connections ,but the entire length of the wire .
Great video and content. I might have simply taped the connectors and would remove and save for a later ( to be unfinished LOL) project. Most of the GM style weather-tight connectors use those and the factory (prolly in Mexico) did a better job of making those than I might
Thanks for doing the video's. Very helpful.
I feel like it would be simpler and safer to go to the plug that’s labeled ie smog clip it and run back and depin
thanks for sharing some of your experience
Hi iam i this project..can help with a few wires?
What do you do with the aqua blue wires that you cut and labeled
this guy sounds like dave ramsey
Psi conversion..or bp automotive.
Great job you master I was do this on one connector it was to much money I was decide to rebuild by my self it was an hit
Got a question on this harness
Thanks 😀
I'm installing a 5.3 into a 99 but I cant figure out how I am going to make it work. I cant find a cheap LS1 harness from a trans am or camaro so I might have to improvise with the stock 5.3 harness. But shit on the 5.3 harness is not in the same location. I'm using the stock truck injectors and fuel rails. I just dont know how I can make a stand alone work from a 5.3 truck harness. If I was to find a 5.7 harness everything should plug and play accept the truck fuel injectors. Those will have to be spliced to the ls1 harness. It's a headache
You can get jumper for injector harness to go from one to the other without having to splice and easier, just cost. As for location of items, most things for a stock 5.3 a close and just require a little lengthening or fore thought to change their location from. One brach harness to the one closer to its position for your application... unless I'm not understanding your issue
the truck harness is even easier and with a 99 you can easily intigrate it into your trucks harness for your obd2 port and gauges
Already got it covered. Ended up using a harness for the F-body. Got all LS1 fbody accessories. Everything's swapped over. The build is 98% done. Just hooking up hoses and lines. Little stuff then put the exhaust on. It a wasn't cheap build that's for sure lol
Looks Good!
This is a good video. We are swapping a 68 with a LS1. We may take this route and give this a shot. Wish us luck... Not alot of electrical wiring experience. Thanks for the Vid!!!
Painless wires labels every line so you know exactly where goes to
For over $600, you should expect labels
