    Back when Kelron Racing Enterprises built my blown v-drive flat bottom BBC drag boat and motor they had Bill Jenkins the cam designer and grinder at Moon Equipment in Santa Fe Springs ground my cam perfectly. Made it so the cam came on a bit slow out of the hole so the boat was able to set nice and smooth without over powering it and being so uncontrollable. That sucker came on so nice and smooth you didn’t realize how quick and fast it was because it was so smooth.

    I went with a BTR stage 1 cam on the '04 C5 Corvette I drive daily. Based on opinions on various car forums most people recommended their cams. Specs: 223/230 .613"/.605" LSA of 115+2. Factory cam specs for the 2004 C5 are 207/196 .479"/.467" LSA of 116.
    The car is an auto trans. so it works fine with the stock torque converter. Dual valve springs, titanium retainers, push rods, upgraded trunion GM rocker arms. Kooks 1 7/8" headers, catted X pipe and mid pipe all cerakoted along with some other stuff like cheap eBay cold air intake and cheap eBay cat back exhaust. HP Tuners tune for engine and auto trans. No dyno numbers yet.
    Kills so far include: Highway pulls on: Nismo 370z, older turbo BMW, 4th Gen. Mustang Cobra (either earlier 320hp or later 390 hp supercharged), Charger Scat Pack. From a stop light: Subaru STi.
    I'm sure I'll loose soon but so far I've been winning to cars just "rolling up" on me while cruising around, not official "meet ups" or anything.
    The BTR stage 1 cam made a noticeable difference in performance. Nice lope at idle and good drivability with the automatic transmission.
    If it matters, I get 18 mpg city, 27 mpg highway cruising around.
    Edit: I forgot to add that the shop that did the cam and header install went with "Johnson slow leak down" lifters. They're worth it because I believe that I am getting the most lift and duration from the BTR stage 1 cam. The engine sounds like a loping sewing machine now.

    DI making more power makes sense. Fuel that is port-injected into the airflow, which is at atmospheric pressure, would displace some of the air trying to get into the chamber, plus create turbulence in the flow. Fuel injected into the chamber, after all the air has entered, adds pressure to the chamber which contains the maximum amount of atmospheric air you can jam in. Volumetric efficiency would be higher because you're adding high pressure fuel to maximum air quantity, later in the cycle.
    Could be wrong-as often happens-but I guess that's the mechanism by which power goes up.

    I like BTR and Brian Tooley has done well with his business. Alot of people have turned to his products because others have had success using his parts. The man is very skilled in what he does. However calling BTR the camshaft king is a bit of a stretch. The real kings of performance aftermarket camshafts are those men who first began re-grinding camshafts before there was a performance aftermarket. Im talking Ed Winfield, Ed Iskenderian, Harvey Crane and others. I would even put Joe Lunati in that group. Brian is among these guys but not the king.
    Not trying to throw shade just makin' a point.

    Is there a better cam design for a Ford 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel? The Stage 1 Cam has 186 IN, 195 EX, .430” IN Lift, .433 EX Lift, 107 LSA. With a 444 CI foundation with Forced Induction, I feel that 107 LSA is a bit Wide and the Endurance can be reduced to help maintain a decent Idle without sacrificing any HP or Ft LBS of TQ

      @@chippyjohn1, you can't get the valve open as quickly without a rocker arm and with lower valve speed you have lower torque. I don't know of any other good reasons for ford to spend the R&D to go back and develop a truck engine from a clean sheet of paper. I'm not going down the road of technology because the improvements speak for themselves.

    • @chippyjohn1
      @chippyjohn1 3 месяца назад

      @joshfraley9451 Once again, a rocker has nothing to do with torque, and multi valve engines have variable valve timing, which is far superior. The conversation about US pushrod engines making better torque is only because they struggle to rev, making low end torque look impressive. However, it is far from impressive by modern standards. The average US pushrod engine is only about 80-85% VE while modern engines have been in the 95-105% for decades now.

      That's a little hyperbolic. You can dislike BTR, but to say they've never set records or won drag championships/races is horseshit. A simple Google search shows it's horseshit. Other cam and head manufacturers speak highly of Brian Tooley Racing.

    • @garlandjones7709
      @garlandjones7709 3 месяца назад +4

      I don't consider him the camshaft king, but damn, what a stupid post. You way wanna do some NMRA research for the last 30 years and see how many guys ran TEA heads, or how many TEA head and cammed cars dominated in the early LS years before aftermarket heads came along. There was only one company running similar numbers to his head and cam setups and they were using 12-14 more degrees intake duration with shit low end and driveability in comparison. Took almost another 10 years for a company to do what he was doing with OEM heads and similar cams.
      You should look into his personal C5 engine he did for his daily driver years back if you want to make a Vizard comparison as I've never seen anything from David comparable.
      I'm not discounting Vizard either, but you just knocked someone way off a pedestal you shouldn't have and put another one higher than he needs to be.
