RMB your work and your vision are absolutely fabulous - AS ALWAYS - you & Tobias are an incredible team. It's such a shame that we have to see it in this way, but THANK YOU for sharing it just the same. I understand and have followed this pitiful Alec Peters situation, he has proven what he's about in the past couple years. But surely there has to be some OTHER way to bring your work out in full capacity? Can't you do a fan prod without Axanar? I can't help but think you would be a great writer as well as director, and you have the best looking graphics work from Tobias. I know I'm not the only one willing to put actual money into a project just to get something that's not STD or STP (or anything remotely related to Abrams or Kurtzner, or Goldsman for that matter).

THIS is how modern Trek should look! It should look like it takes place before Kirk. The only thing I would change is the lighting. Its a bit too dark, and still reminds me a little bit of Discovery and Picard. The ships are so dark, you can't even see what they look like. This would be a HUGE improvement from what we're getting. However, I would raise the lighting a little, and add a bit more ambient light to the models. I know you're not going to really have ambient lighting in space, but for dramatic purposes, you want to see the ships well. Look at Wrath of Khan or Undiscovered Country. The ships are more evenly lit, and you can tell who's who, and what's going on. Plus, it would provide continuity to the "look" of the canon universe. Other than the lighting, I think it looks amazing! Now, I wonder how much it cost to do all these effects shots? To me, they're cinema-quality, and I think fans would accept it on the big screen. Would it be possible to make a feature-length Star trek movie for, say $50-60 million? We don't need expensive ILM, if Tobias Richter is capable of this level of work.

  • @sigmacademy
    @sigmacademy 3 года назад

My issues with the starbase design:
    a) the "tanks" below - it offers a very juicy target for any enemy ship to start attacking those things as their initial strike.
    b) how would the shielding and weaponry systems work on the lower part of the starbase - the top part has a totally open fire arcs (with the limitation of not being able to shoot "down", but the bottom part of the station has the long antenna and some tiny rings that not only provides obstacles to any line of sight targeting and firing, but could lead to both losing target lock and/or hitting parts of the station itself.
    c) the placement of magazines - I take it the starbase is equipped with torpedos and phaser banks. It would not be on the outer ring, so I'm going to have assume it is on places like the inner ring, or even the core of the station itself. Which begs the question - where would one locate potentially dangerous sections of the station, where it neither poses any significant risk to any station personnel, and is remote enough so that nobody can gain easy access to it?
    d) Thinking of this design, I'm thinking the spire is perhaps the weakest point - might be part of a functional design, but it allows for easy destruction, as even a glancing hit can still damage it significantly. We know the Klingon weaponry can deal a lot of damage rather quickly on Federation shielding, so building any kind of slender architecture seems like just asking for trouble. The bulk of the station at least has mass and multiple sections like the ring section which can block an incoming torpedo or phaser beam (momentarily).
    e) Would the station itself be equipped with anti-intruder technology? If a fleet were to attack the station, having boarding parties sabotage key components on the station itself help to further destroy the station much quicker and help prevent ship losses stacking up on the Klingon side, not to mention Klingon warriors just beaming in, dropping an explosive charge (or simply beaming them in), can cause more damage and harm parallel to a normal ship-based attack. I'm taking my inspiration from the Voyager episode where they beamed a torpedo onto a Borg vessel, but it would make sense that the warrior culture of Klingons would have specialized tactics for dealing with stationary, high-value, high threat targets like starbases.
05:40. Those starships might be able to use their weapons systems while in those drydock facilities, but could they raise their shields independently within those facilities, or would they be covered by the starbase's shielding, or could they be used as layered defense - using the starbase's shielding as a primary defense, and the starships own shielding as a secondary shielding, with the starships functioning as sort of additional "weapons points", complementing the offensive capability of the starbase? Although, considering those drydocks are pretty much encasing the starships, it kinda offers limited/flimsy cover but also restricts the starships' own point defense capabilities? :/

We are told that intellectual property encourages creativity by ensuring the supposed necessary financial rewards. Star Trek fan fiction provides clear evidence of the falsity of this claim. Star Trek fans working on Axanar, Star Trek Continues, and Star Trek Phase II produced excellent content that was highly creative, beautiful, and faithful to Star Trek cannon; all for the love of Star Trek and without the supposed necessary profit motive. Driven by the profit motive, CBS used its copyrights to shut down this creativity and produce crap. All of this should remind us of another theme of Star Trek-- that a mature, advanced society progresses beyond capitalism.

I know like the XL version of the refit Enterprise there are some inacuraces (just not as bad😅) but once you get one of their xls in your hands man they are nice
My only wish now is that Eaglemoss did an XL of the Andy Probert Enterprise C prototype. There are some serious QC issues on the regular release but dear god I love the design of that ship. The CG redo of the ship for the anual calender is gorgeous. It really does feel like the proper ship to build the gap between the B and D.

I think what’s really sad here is the lack of foresight CBS has with the future of visual entertainment. These types of visual effects are just going to get better and better until the art of creating video entertainment falls into the hands of the audience and the big corporations become obsolete because they couldn’t adapt. You see that pattern exist in almost every industry.
If the major studios are going to survive in the future, they should find a way to embrace this type of creativity. But, no. Let’s just revamp past cancelled shows due to lack of creativity and innovation.

That way the effort doesn’t go wasted and a beautiful space movie gets made, which obviously the jealous incompetent CBS is incapable off.

You say and emphasize "HUGE" and say *3 miles* across?
3 miles in space is tiny, comparatively.
When I think of "Star Base" I envision a repurposed asteroid, or a meaty,
defensible 100 mile wide _BASE_ covered with dishes, turrets, and
launchers for small, "viper-like" defense craft. No spokes, they are easily
cut & the "pod" is lost. I'd think of a Deathstar/Cylon baseship.
At this timeline- you need things to be more "military" (I would, anyway).

@@xheralt Like Disney used to remind JJ "these aren't the lens flares you are looking for." each day on editing. If a major director got behind the project, no disrespect to those involved ready, because they have the actors, the script, the effects but get someone who the studio couldn't say no to involved, to produce it for example and there you go.
Is baffling that a project with this amount of support and work put into it gets stopped by the studio's for what? They will only gain from it so what's the problem.
